I'm not sure who turned off the color for January, but the lady Superstars were wearing a LOT of black. I think we could have officially called it the Color Of The Month! Fortunately, they gave a ton of great variations and unique personal style with it as well, which made it certain that black wasn't in the least boring!
Alicia Fox kicked off the black trend and I'm pretty sure that her sense of style doesn't even know what the word "boring" means..or that it even exists, actually. This look is totally AMAZING. It's a clasic Foxy funky, trendy, fierce cataclysm that pairs a v-neck top with leather shorts, which is simple enough. But she takes it to a whole new level with this high-low tuxedo jacket! The piece picks up on the flowy-topper trend and I loooove the way she pairs the long coat over a shorter underlayer. She gives it casual panache sheepskin-lined mid-calf flat boots, left open with the tongue rolled down in front. The styling is super hot and utterly fierce all at once. Foxy's style = #Goals. Maryse did her part in the blackout via the Tatiana dress ( by House of CB London, sadly sold out) LBD which got a fab twist from the studs at the shoulders and short sleeves. This is classic style, done in a classically Maryse-way: simple LBD, spiced up with tough, glittering studs for a rock-queen vibe. She keeps the look more polished than edgy by finishing it with her current favorite crossed ankle-strap pumps. I enjoy seeing her play up the sleeker side of the studwork. Charlotte is no stranger to black and this look found her exploring the color at its most minimal: black top, black leggings, black suede OTKs. It could all be a yawn, but it isn't - because she topped it all with an of-the-moment capelet that added just enough panache to give this look distinction. Sometimes, one choice is so incredibly significant! :) I also love the way she left her blonde hair long and loose, but with body - so soft and pretty! Stephanie gave this high-stance blazer another turn and this time, she really cranked the sizzle by pairing it with a sheer-inset top with a super-deep scoopneck. Wowza! You probably couldn't get away with this at your run-of-the-mill office, so we're fortunate that this is WWE and risky is encouraged! After that jaw-dropping moment, she takes things back to refinement by adding wide-leg pants and simple black sandals. She accessorized with crystal statement earring that I'm 100% on board for - even with the daring statement of her top, one little extra detail is perfect - it hits just the right note with its tough of shine. This was apparently as great month for hair, as well as for black - I'm loving Steph's polished ponytail! It's youthful, but confident and shows off those earrings swimmingly!

WWE really outdid itself for Valentine's Day this year! They went in a wonderful direction last year with their hazy, romantic Love Dreams 'shoot, but for 2017, they took that whole idea even further. The set was a magnificent old mansion - The Annesdale in Memphis - an 1850 Italianate-style building with a spiral staircase, gilded mirrors and antique furniture. It had a vintage, vaguely Gatsby-esque feel, with a tiny hint of Wonderland thrown in. The set was literally AMAZING and, as you might expect, it brought forth some fantastic work from the Divas who participated!
Nikki's lace-embellished charmeuse gown had a distinctly lingerie-esque feel to it, a variation on the slip-dress trend which fit the vibe of this 'shoot flawlessly. The piece is sultry, but its incidental to the beauty and artistry - which I like! While I'd want a coat (at least! ;)) over it for real-world usage, in a photoshoot,it conveys Old World romance, with a dash of modern coquettishness. She added hints of her trademark red with a delicate choker and fur-topped red strappy sandals. The mauve-blush-taupe shades of her make-up add a lovely, dreamy softness to the look. And then, there are her poses :). A 'shoot like this is just tailor-made for Nikki and she worked every ounce of it! From creating sensual angles in the mirror to draping herself across the staircase, she smashed Every. Single. Pose, melding opulence and seduction in a stunningly beautiful way. Without a doubt, though, the one that took my heart was of her doing up the buckles of her stilettos. That was EVERYthing...more than everything! It's beyond words. Alexa ditches her ponytails and leather jackets for a gorgeous lace top and ballerina-like blush tulle skirt. I'm totally down for the switch up: Blissy rocks this style just as well as her more trademark looks. The only thing I'm not 100% on is her wide waist belt. Usually, I love them, but there's been a recent trend toward including pieces which have what amounts to statement details and they can sometimes give an awkward vibe to a look. In this case, I think the belt could have been jettisoned and the top blousonned and it would have worked as well or better. She finishes things off with a touch of sparkle via strappy platform sandals. She echoes that glitter with subtly frosted make-up in barely-there shades and the effect is magnificent. As tough and athletic as she is, there is a delicacy to her features which lends them to these shades and finishes and makes the look magical! She also doesn't push for vixen-like poses, but intelligently, goes for more playful girl-next-door looks, which suit her perfectly. In this setting, with the ethereal light and elegant furniture, she gives the impression of a sprite-goddess come down to earth to tease the mortals for awhile. Lovely work! Style with a classic bent always makes my fashion heart beat wildly, so it should be no surprise that this look from Alicia caught my attention! She paired a v-neck sleeveless top with a pencil skirt in an earthily opulent mahogany shade and spiked the whole look with a silk oblong scarf in a trendy dark floral print. It's a fabulous pairing that makes the most of textural contrasts and color harmonies. The first step to stealing..er...borrowing : ...this look is to swap the sleeveless top for a cool-weather-appropriate sweater. Stay with a v or scoopneck - that will be important later for highlighting the scarf. (If you need add'l warmth, consider a wool topcoat, blazer or refined bomber jacket). Next, pick your pencil skirt. You're looking for a fabric that's a bit tougher or more solid than diaphanous silk, so go with leather, like Foxy, or suede. Other equally workable alternatives include denim or classic wool (choose a coarser version, rather than a piece with a super-fine weave). Avoid fabrics like tulle and chiffon, which will tend to mute the scarf's floaty, delicate quality because of their similarity to it. Neutral or classic shades like black, burgundy, blush or navy make coordinating come easy. (PS Feel free to try this look with wide-leg pants if pencil skirts aren't on your agenda atm). Next on the agenda is the keystone: your silk scarf. Lean toward a print over a solid for visual interest. Do it Foxy's way with dark florals (or bright florals :)), or go with a modern, graphic print. Alternatively, give something whimsical like an animal print (I'm thinking actual cats, more than leopard - but the leopard will totally work if that's your jazz :)), or a sketch. The 70's vibe in this outfit comes from the scarf's positioning: Foxy used a side knot, which gives the scarf a similar look to a choker, but with a bit more presence. The classic positioning is to have one end drape in front of your body and one end in back, although if you use a very long oblong scarf, you could set the knot to the back of your neck and let both ends float down your back for an extremely chic look. Lastly: choose the shoes! Get fierce with pointy-toe ankle booties, enhance the 70's vibe with a chunky-heeled boot or keep it classic with a loafer or lace-up flat. I hope this inspires you to excavate a silk scarf from the depths of your dresser soon :)Happy (silky) styling!
In early January, WWE held its annual press conference to announce the location of the next Wrestlemania and it turns out that the 34th edition of the Granddaddy Of Them All will be in New Orleans! Laissez le bon temps rouler, lovelies :) It was good times as far as fashion at the conference, for sure! (And it was an especially good time por moi as the Undertakermade an appearance *marks out madly* ahem. Sorry. *smoothes hair and attempts to act like an adult again while continuing to do an inner happy dance* Did I mention I love the Taker? He's actually the guy who made me a wrestling fan, but that's a tale for another day). To fashion! Alicia Fox was devastatingly 70's-chic with her leather midi pencil skirt in a wonderful mahogany shade. She paired it with a lovely, drape-y ivory blouse and solidified the fabulousness of the outfit by knotting an oblong dark floral silk scarf at her neck. I'm head-over-heels for the simple sophistication of this look - Foxy just smashes it! On the make-up front, I can often find the dark lip trend harsh, but here, the choice carries the rich color upwards and ties this whole sterling outfit together. This is another amazing combination from Foxy Fierce!
Alexa Bliss's little black dress sports dotted-tulle embellishments that give a sweet-vintage vibe to the piece. It's a fitting choice for the girly-tough style sensibilities we've seen so far from Blissy. Although I might have reached for something more professional than playful, Alexa carries this well - she has an adorable vivacity to her that makes this look work. She finished it with simple black pumps and a dose of her trademark sparkle via a crystal statement necklace. She also wins Fierce points for her sweet and pretty pinned half up-do. Maryse reprised the La Perla suit we raved over previously. Unlike that occasion, though, she chose soft blush shades for her make-up palette this time around and I love the effect! It's soft and has a natural-but-better glow that's completely stunning on her! Charlotte's choice was a sheer-inset LBD that added a subtle dose of sexy to a classic dress. Char's instincts for these type of events are generally spot on and such is the case here. My only caveat with this dress is that the fit seems just a touch off. Fortunately, however, its not particularly distracting from this classy-meets-flirty look. Charlotte adds in a fun twist by completing the styling with glittered pointy toe pumps in a surprising and welcome addition of glamour. Like Maryse, Stephanie re-uses a sheath for us: this beautiful robins-egg blue dress first caught our attention during Wrestlemania week this year and again during SummerSlam, when she dressed it down with a blazer. She's done the same here, adding a touch of cool-weather polish. Suede peeptoe booties finish off the look and I like the additional texture, as well as the way the black grounds the light, bright blue. Oh my holy goalness Maryse! The serial slayage continues. If that phraseology seemed equivocal to you, let me spell it out: I LOVE this look. I could totally wear this. Turtleneck sweater, pencil skirt, cropped statement jacket. BOOM. Chic. Gorgeous. Maryse can pull off the most daring, glamorous, dramatic styles, but seeing her cross over to her sophisticated side definitely set my lil' heart a flutter in a special way. Happy Valentines Day, right? :) The elegant buttons and gathered shoulders on her military-inspired jacket give it panache and modernity, with timeless appeal. That is how you do a statement jacket, lovelies! And Maryse finishes the look with a stunning exclamation point: her crimson velvet OTKs. We can just take a moment here and soak up the flawlessness.
And the flawlessness does not stop with Maryse! I've been loving this latest era in Natalya's gear so much! It's just amazing. She blends leather and latex and sheer insets and crystal patterns in such incredible and beautiful ways! My favorites are unquestionably the black and crystal ones: the simple color scheme creates a ton of impact and glamour! In this particular variation, I'm drawn to the delicacy of the crystal placement. Placed at the edges of the silver sequin piping like this, it creates the lovely, feminine effect of a picot ribbon - just way sparklier ;)...and I love me some sparkle! With the clean geometric shapes of the leather panels, this gear has a modern, architectural feel, so the dainty texture makes a fabulous contrast, creating a harmony of strength and intricacy, toughness and glamour that's just divine. Ogh, so fab! Impact has been a good bit off the radar over the last year in terms of photoshoots. It's a shame after the great run they had under Christy Hemme's direction and the launch of the website completely dedicated to the KO's that really gave them a chance to break free and stretch their wings. While we wait for the company regroup and (hopefully! ..as in preeettttty pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaase!) get back to giving us photos again, we can thank our Kim's trip through her archives for giving us this little trip down memory lane - n AMAZING gear from Gail Kim at the time of one of her many KO's title wins. Gail began to do some really unique and special things with her gear during her second WWE run and she continued that fantabulousness, albeit with a much darker vision, when she returned to Impact. She nailed the sweet spot between trendy and tough, with a dash of romantic thrown in to spice things up. Lace and leather became trademark fabrics for her. We watched her evolution through various shades of lace with top+shorts combos and then, one day, she decided to knock us all out of our seats and on to our keisters when she debuted her one-piece variation, which evolved into various combinations of cutouts and sheers, accented with lace and leather. Oh, and finished with lace-up OTK boots. This set showcased exactly that kind of killer pairing: a deep-v front bodysuit (shove over Ariana - Gail done it first!) done with black lace set over a stunning shade of bright turquoise. The effect was mesmerizing, beautiful, bold and sexy as all Hel..sinki :). Floral lace shorts reprised the black lace-over-turquoise shading that dropped jaws everywhere, while a patent belt at Gail's waist brought even more attitude to an already scalding silhouette. After all that, those incroyable OTK boots were just icing on our fashion cake! But Gail didn't stop with her gear - she slayed a sitting pose or two as well, just to remind us that our undying devotion wasn't in the least misplaced. Bon temps, bon temps!
PS lots more posts coming this week, loves! I've got FashionHaps up the yin-yang and more all prepped and ready to be written up for your enjoyment, so stick close :) So..um...yes...it is totally ridic to be reviewing a holiday 'shoot in February and I have nothing to plead for myself but lack of time and rather challenging collages. I'm trying to make this seem appropriate to post by doing so on a day when it is snowing around me, but that probably isn't going to help my cause in the sunny elsewheres. Sorries? *apologetic hopeful smile (while making self appear small and ingratiating)*
First, a note on the background: the painted scene was simple, but well done and really worked well! I love the effect of that, especially with the glitter faux snow some of the divas were tossing about. I could have done without the cotton batting-type snow on the artificial pines though. That looked awkward and not especially artistic or tasteful, which is a shame because there are so many amazing options for creating a snowy effect these days, including artificial pine that is already snow-covered. Or spray snow and spray glitter. Or frosted pine cones and branches. (I worked in flower shop during college, so I got to play with all that stuff :)) So here's the take-home, Big Dub: do it right, or do without. Either is good, but the half-cheeked thing...meh. Moving on from there, let's talk about Alexa! Her white mock-neck bodycon dress gets spiced up with insets in two fabrics: sheer and lace. The effect is gorgeous: the clean, strong panelled silhouette is interspersed with touches of gauzy and frilly textures that soften and uplift it. Alexa accented it with a pile of slim silver bangles, which enhance the snowy, festive effect. Her poses are mainly standards, well-executed, but a few - like this one where she steps into the shower of "snow" are not only unusual, but so beautiful as well! They are a joy to view and make me so excited about the possibilities for her future 'shoots! Carmella's choice was a white strapless dress that jumped on that particular aspect of the side cutout trend that bares a lot of skin at the hip. The trend is a risky one in that it can go from just enough to way too much very easily. Carmella's piece gets closer to the "too much" line than I generally prefer, which is unfortunate because the classic strapless silhouette suits her. She also shows a real flair for accessorizing, going with a standout crystal statement necklace that I adore and magnificent jeweled strappy heels, which I definitely want to see again! (Maybe in my closet ;)). She does a nice job with her poses, playing with her hair and rocking some fun angles. She seems to be smiling in nearly every shot, which gets predictable, even if accidental. Possibly because of that, one of my favorite snaps in her set is the one showing her open-mouthed expression of innocent joy - it comes off as authentic and endearing and its novelty is just one more reason to love it. Despite a few uneven moments, Carmella's snaps show great promise because of slayed shots like this one! Becky is one of the few ladies to ditch the dress - I applaud her choice of a sequined romper. Its unique and fits her offbeat style...and happens to be spot on trend at the same time ;). The piece's center clasp lets the center slit create a dash of flirty-ness without revealing way too much and the sequin stripes bring a wonderful modern flash to the look. Like Alexa, Becky's accessory of choice was a stack of bangles ranging in tone from sterling to hematite. They coordinate precisely with her outfit, which could be boring in a simpler piece, but works flawlessly with this bold one! She finishes the outfit the same way she started: with a twist - green wedge sneakers instead of the expected heels. Not everyone could pull this off, but Becky makes it work with her sporty confidence. I'm also in heaven with her facials and poses - she's worked on her glare and nails it - no deadpan expression here! It's all confidence and subtle strong energy that doesn't have to be in-your-face. Glorious! Equally perfect is her over-the-shoulder laugh as she pulls the sleigh full of packages - she captures the effervescent magic and an elfin quality in the snap and it's superb! Brava! Maryse's set is just what you would expect from her -stellar in every way! Her mesh-embellished lace dress perfectly matches the snowy vibe of the 'shoot, while the scalloped edge adds a lovely touch of femininity. Unlike the other ladies, she went with gold accessories and they add an appealing hint of warmth to the 'shoot. But the real fire in the snaps comes from Maryse's sure hand with poses and facials: the soft smile, the smirk (in combination with her trademark hand gesture), the sideways glance - she moves from strength to strength. Her hair and make-up are stunning. The whole set bespeaks a thoroughly competent diva rocking the heck out of a simple 'shoot and taking it to a new level with her poise and beauty. Reason #158435168 why I adore Maryse! |
