When I saw this insanely fun sunflower-printed top of Maria's, I couldn't resist the chance to do a look utilizing in my favorite shade: yellow! Because I adore the color, I went for full-on, straight-up yellow, but doing a print -as Maria has- is a great option if you want the bright, sunny effect, without any worry about pulling off the color. Just make sure the background shade is one you're happy in. The slight gathering at the sleeves of Maria's top, along with the flared silhouette of her pants is what gives me that 70's vibe. (And I want to state, for the record, that I LOVE that she did a fab, causal look that is free of leggings! I love them, but they are literally ubiquitous rn. Fashion can get too laidback for it's own good and I'm sky-high when someone resurrects casual style done with more tailored pieces). So, step one: select your pants - try a linen blend for a bit of texture, or finely-woven wool or silk blend for more drape. Polyester will give you a similar look to silk at a better price point, although silk is preferable. Flared denim or chinos will work, but the fabric will be a touch stiffer. Allay that by pairing it with a tucked-in drapey shirt: again, silk is your friend, but woven linen or broken-in cotton will do nicely. Alternatively, go for a solidly 70's-feeling crochet, embroidered or lace piece in a slightly cropped silhouette. Your top is less about whether it's a tee or a button-down and more about the color/print, shape and detailing. Pin-tucks or gathering details at the sleeves will enhance the soft, feminine shape and slightly vintage vibe. Play that up with earth-tone sandals, or go for a pop of color with bright butter flats. I love the addition of a wide-brimmed floppy hat and/or a mix of slim bracelets in various materials: metal, leather, cloth...and a charm or eight :). So, don't worry, #BeHappy...and bright...and stylish! ;)

The ladies of Total Divas had fun earlier this month enjoying the ocean in some fab new bikinis (and monokinis ;), courtesy of Susan Holmes McKagan. If you're a Guns N' Roses fan, that last name may ring a bell. Yep, she's Duff's wife ;)...and a designer of super cool bikinis!
Brie donned a truly fabulous two-piece with a bold, woven detail. A hint of metallic brought an extra dash of visual interest to this amazing piece. A string bottom completed the set. Brie styled it with intricate chandelier earrings and a gorgeous, rounded golden statement ring (ogh, loooooove that! #WantOne). She chose earthy-pinks for her make-up palette, complementing the dark neutral shade of her bikini in a subtle, but flawless way. Nikki's pure white set got a madly cool update from the multi-wrap strings, featured at both the hips and waist. The white bikini is a classic, but the twisted, lace-up detail ramps the sexiness up considerably! That naturally makes it a perfect choice for Nikki's style. Silver statement earrings finish off her look. You can't be anything but smoking hot when you have a chili pepper dangling from your bikini! This cherry red number comes with a chili charm that suits Renee's funky, playful style sensibilities. This vibrant, iconic shade of red looks incredible on her...especially when accented with a scarlet lip! I'm not sure what kind of coercion was required to sneak the Ravishing Russian into an American flag monokini, but whatever it took, it was worth it! With her side French-braided blonde hair and this Land-Of-The-Free spirited bikini, Lana looks like a super-hot girl-next-door...or a present-day Farah Fawcett ;) If only she'd given us a sitting pose! (Next time? ;)) She completed the look with a cord lariat which not only coordinates perfectly, but enhances the Americana theme. It's fortunate that she's doing this in the USA instead of the Motherland; Russian winters would definitely not survive this look ;) Renee's and Lana's are both available for purchase on susanholmes.net, so if you're in love with one of those, head on over. Also head on over to check out the other amazeballs swimwear available from the brand. There are some standard string bikinis in perfect summer colors and also some really unique pieces with crochet or charms. For anyone wondering where th I have been, weebly decided not let me edit posts for the last 2 days, so I've been stuck here, staring at fashion and unable to yabber about it. OMG, I thought torture was illegal? Ooook, so atm I can edit...therefore: let us fashion!
Right after the killer fashion of WrestleMania, the Bellas & Co. segued straight into another serious fashion event - the Alice and Olivia fashion show. And oh my, what a treat we're in for :). Renee's look for the night was all about white, as she paired a plunge-neck crop top with a side-slit maxi skirt. The look was minimalist, but trendy, especially accented with a long, slim pendant necklace for a touch of Alice & Olivia's boho vibe. She finished it with an oval statement ring and black lace-up stilettos for added punctuation. I also am completely in love with her make-up here; this look is an A+ for Renee. The pinky-tan shades are warm and glowing and she looks AMAZING. Paige had a very 70's vibe going with this halter crop top and wide-leg pants in a classic black-and-white combo. I love seeing her step outside of grunge-mode and this style is very current, while still looking at home on Paige. It has a sultriness and maturity fishnets and denim lack and makes a fabulous style change-up. Nikki and Lana both wore this rather amazing beaded jumpsuit. It's a really fun piece that blends a hint of sexy (via the spaghetti straps and v-neckline) with a super-hot silhouette. All the beading is a fantastic way bring some very modern shine to the 70's-darling pantsuit. Nikki styled it with a high bun, smoky eyes and nude lips for a mod, fierce look, while Lana left her flowing and accented it with rose lips for a sweeter, more laidback glam. Nikki's hi-low ruffled dress is yet another winner. First, that gorgeous cobalt blue is a serious eye-catcher! Next, the ruffles and sheer skirt bring massive femininity to this piece, along with a lot of beautiful rippling and fluttering. The low scoop neck creates the va-va-voom that is a trademark of Nikki's style. Long, loose hair, flipped to one side gives this whole look a sense of gracefulness and movement that's very alluring. Brie's look combined the idea of a modern coord set with Old Hollywood glamour, as her floral printed crop top combined with a sheer, floral tulle maxi with a thigh-high slit. The play on right-now vs old-school works really well, making this set unique and interesting, as well as artistically pleasing. The lighting makes Brie's shoes a bit tricky to ID, but I'd bet they're a variant of the Dina heel. As you may have guessed, the preponderance of the pieces above are from Alice and Olivia, a brand the Bellas have been steadfast fans of for several years. The pieces tend to have a modern-femme feel, with a lot of beauty, a bit of risk and hints of glamour and boho...so you can see why the Bellas love them ;) Getting to see all the ladies embrace the show and the fashion was crazy fun and I hope they get to more of this! Maryse has been slaying fashion life since she stepped back on to the big screen. Her first offering paired chevron-waist (love that look!) leggings with lace-up OTK's and one heck of a statement jacket! The cropped, all-over metallic lace piece is a serious jaw-dropper. It's beautiful, feminine, an artistic achievement and HOT. While Maryse layered it over a brassiere, I can completely see this piece working layered over a bandeau, a form-fitting tank or a classic LBD. It's the very definition of a statement piece! The same can be said for her tie-front car coat. Done in a steely taupe opaque fabric, it's accented with plastic-esque stripes for a fierce, mod look. She finished the look in the same way as her previous outfit: with leggings and OTKs. It's a super cool, entertainer's twist on a classic fashion blogger look...and I adore it! Maryse added a can't-miss-it statement necklace for an additional dash of glam. Ogh, she's so fab!
I also love Charlotte's look from Raw in April where she paired this lace top with black denim. The underlayer of her top allows the gorgeous detail of the lace pattern to show through in a really beautiful way and I love the textural contrast of the delicate lace and the tough, woven denim. Her hairstyle is one of my fav looks for her too - she wrapped tendrils around her head and pinned them to create a self-headband effect, which is lovely! Nikki brought us a complex, but fun look which melded a cropped lace tee with a printed flared skirt. Up to there. it's cute and sophisticated, but she brings some punk-ish fierceness in with her strappy platform booties. A high bun completes the look. She styled it for a wine festival and it comes off very hip and interesting, i.e. perfect for that kind of event ;) With the weekend coming up, I thought it was time to explore a super cute, seriously casual style ;). With casual outfits, it's really important to get the right mix of elements - literally make or break! Do it right and you exude casual cool. Do it wrong and you end up with "meh" or even "bleh". Yikes. So, let's take a cue from Brie on how to do it right. She starts with a classic white tee. It's hard to find one these days that's not see-through (pet peeve of mine! I know a plethora of celebs do the sheer thing, but in "real life", it's just not classy, unless it's done in a very specific way), but girlfriend above proves it's possible ;). (Aside: a nude bra that's similar to your skin tone will hide more effectively than most other colors. A pale, heathered fabric is next best). As I am (as previously mentioned) a stain magnet, I might go for a more forgiving soft gray. I love Brie's sleeveless, short-V-neck style, but a cap sleeved or scoopnecked piece will work too. A curve-kissing full-length tee will be the most versatile, but you can tie it to shorten it to a cropped length, like Brie's. Pair it with distressed skinny denim for a city-girl vibe. Cropped is good, rolled will do ;). You want it at a height that shows a flash of ankle. Top the look with a wardrobe-staple denim jacket. Finish with pristine white sneakers. (Or, do a bright color instead for a fun, bold pop.)The whole look is a combo of non-flashy pieces, but the right cuts and silhouettes make it look like something you put together with stylish intent, as opposed to just grabbing whatever was on your floor. Not that I have ever done that. Ever. Nope. And that's all I'm saying *winning smile*. Simplicity also gets a little nudge in fashionable directions from accessories. Brie used a long chain and a pair of turquoise statement rings to give an organic flair to her look, in keeping with her boho spirit. Few stones convey the earth goddess feel as well as turquoise! But if blue isn't your thing, consider red jasper or a similar non-sparkly stone. Alternatively, layer a number of thin band rings on various fingers, knot a bandana at your wrist or add a statement belt with studs, a stamped/etched pattern or an interesting weave. Little details bring character to your look and let you slay with (apparently ;)) careless ease. Hope this inspires your style this weekend or sometime soon! XO
The month of April was a 101 course in some major trends currently slamming the fashion world. First up is the camo jacket. Recently spotted on Maryse and Lana (I'm counting days 'til we see Paige embrace this look too ;)), as well as Ariana Grande and Cara Delevigne, the look is an outgrowth both of the military trend that's been surfacing lately, as well as the reinvigoration of grunge. Anorak-style jackets are hot hot hot, but other silhouttes, including bombers are out and about as well. Camo makes a great pairing with other neutrals, creating an effortless tough-girl vibe.
Edit: check out Express and Urban Outfitters for several affordable options :) Another item that's having a you-NEED-this moment is the choker necklace. A 90's staple, this look has recently been sported by both Renee and Brie Bella, along with Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Chokers lend themselves flawlessly to the low necklines of summer, whether v or rounded. They are available in a wide variety of genres, including sophisticated crystal pieces, grunge-leaning leather and braided cloth bohemian styles. I've never been a massive fan of camo, so that's a trend I'll likely be skipping. The choker, however, I can totally get behind! It's a look I completely LOVE! Hint: if you don't yet own a choker, you can create the appearance of one by looping a long chain through itself and wearing it like a lariat, but backwards. Alternatively, try a narrow scarf looped closely around your neck. Add a pin at the center for a bit of metallic or jeweled shine. If this fabulous suit of Renee's has been in your dreams since WrestleMania (#NotProjectingOrAnything), there are definitely ways to re-create this look for less grand occasions. I'm completely in love with this chic ivory shade...but I'm also a giant, hyper-functional stain magnet, so I chose to re-style this in darker neutrals. The navy version is the most casual, using wide-leg denim pants and a navy linen blazer. It finishes with navy pointy-toe pumps for some extra polish. The black version has a bit more edge to it. It pairs suiting pants in finely-woven wool or cotton with a black blazer. The material here is matte, which walks a great line between office and semi-formal night event. However, you could significantly elevate this look by choosing a crepe or sateen material which has a sheen to it. To keep walking that mid-formal line, I've finished this with brogues, but sneakers would dress it down much further. For a dressier look, go with metallic sandals. While Renee appeared to go undergarment-free (and possibly had the suit closure sewn up slightly to maintain modesty), I would recommend a camisole underneath. Go with a silk piece or something with lace or crochet accents for a feminine touch against the strong statement of the suit, or a slouchy tee for casual cool. A bandeau would be a fun option for date night. I've saved the most critical aspect of this look for last. Ready? Suit jackets turn on subtle details - pockets, shoulder shape, tailoring. One of the most crucial ones is the stance of the jacket, i.e. where the closure is set. A high closure, set just beneath the bust, will act like an empire waist (see rightmost blazer), while a low stance will cause the jacket to be straighter, but also draw the eye downwards, elongating the frame. A mid-stance will be something like a princess seam, tending to create a waistline at the height it's set at. Renee's jacket has a low-mid stance, which gives it that long, slim, refined feel. To re-create this look, pick a jacket with a similar stance. Renee completed her styling with a delicate lariat necklace, a look I love! A short pendant necklace with a thin shape would work the same way. You could also add a little extra texture (or color ;)) by knotting a long, non-bulky rectangle scarf at your neck. Tuck the ends in, or let them flow :) Happy styling!
