Maria’s inner beast? Oh that creature’s a sexy thang for sure! And what mythological beats was sexier than the sultry, come-hither sirens who lounged on sharp rocks at beach-side and lured sailors into wreckage with their songs? I’m sure many a man (and likely a number of women ;)) have been lured into dangerous territory by Maria. If you inner beast shares that talent for temptation, dress her up for Halloween in a ruffled skirt (or use a dark neutral skirt or pair of pants and add a sparkling net hip shawl), paired with a glittering top. Try a sequin bikini, bra top or cami, or go for something with feathers (the sirens of legend were part bird). You could also bring the winged concept in with a feathered headband or earrings. Alternatively, try a seashell crown and/or pendant. Stay with cool shades: blue-greens, blues and purples, accented with touches of sandy beige or taupe. Finish the look with (what else?) flip flops :)

We're taking a quick break today from envisioning the Halloween costumes that could be inspired by letting our inner fierce beasts loose. Part 3 will be posted on Wed. For now, we're getting our daily dose of inspiration from Eva Marie...and it has everything to do with plaid! My usual go-to styling for plaid is to pop it under a jacket, but sometimes it's fun to let the fabric take center stage. In that case, adding an interesting detail or texture underneath helps elevate the look from "weekend chilling" to something with more honed style chops. Pick your favorite plaid of the moment to start. Then, choose your underlayer. Skip the easy-but-expected thermal. Yeah, yeah we know how laidback you can be; let your inner fashionista have a moment. Do it Eva Marie's way and go with a lace-up detailed bodysuit below for a sexy spin on plaid. Pair it with leggings or skinny jeans and coordinating OTK boots - black with cool colors, warm brown or of-the-moment burgundy with classic autumnal shades. Tie the plaid shirt at your waist, leave it flowing open for casual cool or let it slide off of one shoulder for a flirty take on the look. If lace-up isn't your style, how about just lace? I love pairing fabrics in ultra-disparate genres, like grungy, work-hard/play-hard plaid with delicate, frilly lace. The intricate pattern softens the plaid and gives it a quirky, boho vibe, especially when paired with blue denim (distressing totally allowed!) and finished with a suede belt and caramel ankle booties. Ivory, beige and vanilla tones brighten darker plaids, like navy and pine shades, beautifully. Since both of these are casual looks, ditch the baubles..and the bobby pins - let your hair blow free. Or, elevate the whole shebang a bit more and go with a fancy up-do. I hope this inspires you to have some fun with plaid sometime soon - 'tis the season, after all ;) Happy fashioning!
The end of September found the ladies of wrestling and beyond wearing a number of gorgeous dresses, with a few casual looks thrown in for good measure. In the former category is this wrap slip dress of Barbie's. The wrap style - made famous in the 70's by Diane von Furstenberg - highlights all her curves, an effect which is enhanced by the charmeuse fabric. Barbie added a metallic glimmer to the eggshell shade of the dress with her Rockstud sandals and a bold gold choker. If you asked me to split hairs, I think I might say I'd have preferred a slimmer style with a subtler profile, which would have kept the look a bit more cohesive.
Brie gave us her take on the dark-florals trend as she attended the Emmy in this beautifully patterned piece. In addition to the beautiful print, the dress boasts a stunning high-low hemline, which looks graceful and feminine. Brie paired it with ivory sandals, a color and silhouette which added lightness to the darkly romantic piece. I'm also loving the soft curls in her shorter hair - they make this style look so gorgeous on her! Cathy commented lightheartedly about wearing white in this picture, suggesting that it was allowd after Labor Day since the dress has long sleeves. I'm not sure that quite qualifies as justification for obeying the old guideline, which may have originated for practicality purposes, or as a distinction between vacation seasons and the rest of the year. It is noteworthy that the prohibition applied solely to pure white, like Cathy's dress. It did not include ivory and vanilla shades; hence the rise of the term "winter white". Also, the classic white shirt has been a year-round fashion staple for decades, so you have plenty of options for skirting the whole issue and still following the etiquette, if you so choose. Or do it Cathy's way and say "to heck with tradition" ;). Whew. Having gotten all that out of the way, I love this dress! The mix of lace and sheer is lovely - a modern twist on a vintage vibe. She keeps the whole look light by pairing it with nude sandals, but you could just as easily finish it with black pumps for a stronger -and equally chic! - contrast. That would probably be the route I would choose, especially for this time of year, as the black and white is four-season classic and feels more sophisticated than summery. The again, I would probably try this dress in ivory instead of white (in case you're sitting there pondering "but what would Brie do?" ;) Doing a complete 180 from Cathy's ladylike look, we find this black monochrome outfit from Becky. It's premise is simple: peplum top, leggings, flat knee boots, but it comes together solidly. It's stylish and looks fantastic on her. Score one for Becky and laidback-cool! September saw a whole range of great fashion looks sail across our consciousness - everything from fancy sequins to chill fringe.
Fringe was the main attraction in this outfit of Noelle's an it completely rocks! Imagine all the movement it creates at this super-long length! Way fun, right? I'm not generally a fan of tie-dye, but the bold, straightforward striped pattern of this piece is really eye-catching and pretty, especially in this combination of cobalt and white. Cut-off denim shorts provided the bottom half of her cool-as-a-cucumber look, while black retro sneakers finished it off. Even though the pairing is quite basic, her stand-out top give this look serious punch and it looks fab! Noelle channels Charlotte in her next outfit, a mockneck crop top paired with a pencil skirt and topped with a biker jacket. It's a simple and trendy match-up that works just as well for her as it does for the Raw champ. Char would finish this with pumps or sandals, but I'm betting Noelle put her own spin on the footwear...sneakers, perhaps? ;) Michelle's daughter decided to play fashion photographer and the blonde beauty complied, striking a pose for us all to admire. This look definitely showcases Michelle's pre -or -post-Laycool style: the All-American girl showed her love for camo, but the glamorous Michi McFlawless? Not so much. Michelle shorted the midi-lengthe piece DIY-style via a knot at the hemline and ramped up the military style with lace-up boots. A knotted white sweatshirt at her waist gave the look a grunge twist, while a long gold pendant provided the only hint of shine. She also played with a concept that becoming a major thing lately: elevating this causal dress with her hairstyle, an intricate braid. She's been favoring this kind of style lately and it works wonderfully with this look. Eva worked the same idea with this look, but paired her self-wrapped top knot with a distressed denim instead of a dress. The fancier hair works just as well with pants! I love her decision to do this slinky bodysuit in olive - the color looks amazing on her! And her choker - in addition to being bang on-trend - works symbiotically with her hair style to make this look come off more polished than your standard slim-top-and-skinny-jeans pairing. Her high top sneaker finish things off with a casual vibe. Barbie gave us another sterling example of her flair for laidback fierceness as she paired this high-necked sleeveless halter top with gray denim shorts. The coup de grace of this ensemble, though, is her OTK boots. They really put the exclamation point on the combo. She adds an extra shot of attitude with her chain-handled bag. From fierceness, we head straight into boho: Renee paired this Free People dress with OTK boots, showing why the super-high style has become as fashionista-staple: they literally go with EVERYTHING. And they swing from genre to genre without missing a bit. I love the edge they add to this delicate dress. I also love Renee's addition of a pork-pie hat; it gives a playful twist to the look that reinforces the free-spirited vibe. So, you've gotten in the autumn mood. You're ready for pumpkin spice and salted caramel, sweaters, scarves and tall boots. There's only one little problem: you may be feeling like fall, but the weather is feeling like summer. How is a stylish chick supposed to get her autumn on when the temps are sky high and there's not even a hint of cool in the air? Well, for starters, she can take a tip from Nikki. Go with cool, comfortable pieces, but do them in fall-leaning colors. Play with orange, mustard, red, chocolate, dusty pink and olive green. This palette can help you feel like it's fall, even while you use pieces that keep you comfortable in summer temps: free-flowing skirts, casual tees. Use a lace-up version or a deep-v silhouette for a hint of sexy a la Nikki. Don't fear going sleeveless either; that's a perfect reason to top your look with an open-weave or crochet sweater that brings in that autumn vibe you're more than ready for. Go with breezy boho prints that cross seasonal boundaries, or dark florals that are spot on-trend and have a more somber feel than lighthearted brights. Avoid summer staples like linen, gingham, eyelet or gauzy/crinkle fabrics (but pleats are definitely do-able!). Multi-season materials like silk and cotton (choose heavier iterations such as twill or denim, all-season jersey) will cross weather boundaries. Lace is a gorgeous all-year-round option as well. Finish the look off with something suede. An autumn-only material for years, it's come into all-year use so recently that it still carries that fall connotation. Its sumptuous texture enhances that idea. Nikki would doubtless go with a fashion-forward shoe, such as a pee-toe bootie, so lean in that direction if you're channeling Bella 1.0. If you're more of a Bella 2.0 boho girl, closed-toe ankle booties would work perfectly with an informal skirt. If your bottom layer is a bit fancier, pair it with a chic pump.
Summer may be officially over, but the Divas and Knockouts sure aren’t letting us forget about it! I guess they want to hang on to the warm days as much as I do. Since Mother Nature seems to be on board atm, now seems as good a time as any to check out all the bikini pics that ladies have been sending our way. And they have found some stunners indeed!
Maryse rocked this FIERCE black offering from Beach Bunny swimwear at the end of September. A black bikini is always chic and classic. But this? This is not your basic black bikini! It’s accented with chain details in glorious gold – slim ones on the straps of the top and ropes of them at the hips. Can you say “luxury”? Actually, with swimwear like this, you don’t need to say much of anything; the piece does all the talking! If color is more you’re thing, you can probably get behind this fantastic star-printed set from Brandi. The blue and red color combo gives it a vintage vibe – with a hint of Americana – but the star print oh so right now. Black may be the classic but it’s hard to go wrong with bright colors for swimwear. They’re like gym pieces – they’re meant to be fun! The multi-string style is super hot and Brandi’s killer body makes this bikini look absolutely flawless. While Maryse’s bikini was all about dat embellishment, Mandy’s choice jettisoned all additives…including straps. She paired bandeau-style push-up with simple-as-it-gets bottoms: no ties, no cutouts, no patterns. Just hotness. Sometimes the only accessories you need are great aviator shades and a set of killer abs. Are you planning your crunches yet? ;) White with gold has always been one of my favorite combinations; the warm metallic and cool white contrast each other perfectly. That perfection goes to new heights when the combo is done in a woven-crochet design, as Summer’s bikini is! I love how pretty and feminine this set is – that can be a tough look to find in swimwear. The metallic gives it a touch of luxury too. This set it totally gorge!..As is the misty pastel background of this pic; nature is so amazing! Fall always lends itself to (faux) fur. The look is luxurious...and warm! Depending on the style, pieces can bring a super chic feel, a rock n' roll attitude or a bohemian twist into an ensemble. Rock n' roll attitude with a whole lot of fierce is the closest description for the way Michelle did fur. She used the fabric in several 'shoots throughout her WWE career, all of them memorable! This version, from the days of her initial heel turn, paired a vest with leather leggings and studded almost-OTK boots. While the Flawless One added a sleeveless leather crop top beneath her fur, the current weather conditions and public exposure laws suggest a slight metamorphosis is in order if we're going to steal Michelle's style. I love the idea of burgundy with all this black, but Michi studiously avoided it (if I recall correctly, she said she felt like an apple in red :)), but I can totally imagine her reaching for this blue curve-hugging sweater to pop underneath. If you own a deep emerald slim sweater, definitely consider that too. Alternatively, navy would be a chic option. Add slim or skinny black jeans on the bottom (or leather leggings or tuxedo-stripe ponte pants) and then top the whole thing with your favorite faux fur vest. "But, Brie...I don't have a faux fur vest! Or any fur vest actually..." Don't panic! You can get a similar look by loosely wrapping a scarf around your neck. The scarf gives you some heat-control options as well...cotton or silk will be cooler, cashmere or wool will almost rival the fur. Finish the look with leather boots: Michelle wouldn't be caught dead without her heels (unless she's working out ;)), but flat OTKs up the comfort factor and add a nice casual vibe to the styling. Naturally, you'll need to finish this ensemble flawlessly: with a bold cuff, Michelle favorite choice in accessories. If you have something with studs or crystals, don't shy away from a touch of glam; the LayCool ladies would approve! Alternatively, layer a few narrower bangles to achieve the idea of a bold piece. Happy styling!
