Aaaaaand, iiiiiiit’s tiiiiiiiiime! We are about to unveil the photoshoots that won our stylish hearts this year. And YOU get to award the one best ‘shoot the honor of the Silver Snap. Are you ready?
First, a few quid pro quo: this year was especially difficult as it suffered from a dearth of photoshoots from both promotions. Also, both companies leaned toward gallery-type snaps where a number of ladies got individual sets all at once. Consequently, I decided to count each lady’s set as an individual ‘shoot. From there, I whittled down and split hairs and compared and contrasted and evaluated and… you get the picture. In the interests of full disclosure, since diva-fierce is a fashion site and we are all about the fashion, there is a slight bias around these parts towards fashion-type ‘shoots, so I tended to weight those a little higher than less style-inclined snaps. Ok…the lawyers can go off retainer now. Let’s get to the good stuff…

The Inspiration Boards have become one of the most popular features here on diva-fierce.com – which thrills me because I love creating them! As the year winds down, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the looks that all of you loved best this year, as determined by the number of views. What was capturing your oh so fashionable gaze in 2017?
1. Maryse – Lacy Layers …ok, technically, this post is from 2016. I was still developing the concept then and didn’t do a year-end Top list, but I wanted to recognize it here, as it was one of the most viewed posts for mooooonths after it went up and gets a significant number of hits even now, over a year later. 2. Barbie – Candy & Flowers…I loved the sweet colors and unexpected pop of florals in this accessible and chic look from Barbie. So did you :) It was the runaway favorite of the year, getting nearly double the number of views of any other look. 3.Mckenzie – Denim 70’s…The 70’s has been a massive influence on fashion over the past few years and this re-imagining of Mckenzie’s Americana look embraced it wholeheartedly, with earthy colors, midi lengths and an off-the-shoulder silhouette. It got plenty of love from you, earning the next most popular spot. 4. Becky – Metal & Lace-kicker…nipping at the heels of the Denim 70’s look was one from a very different genre: a play on Becky’s femme-meets-tough-chick ring gear that melded lace pieces with hardware accents. It seems the Fiercenti who frequent diva-fierce love a whole range of styles! And that is so awesome because…me too! 5. We had three looks in nearly a dead heat for the fifth spot: Natalya - a la Natalya, a glamour-tinged riff on Nattie’s incredible gear, Naomi – When Tulle Met Stripes, a translation of Nay-nay’s Valentine’s Day ‘shoot look that paired chic tulle with the breezy Parisian vibe of stripes and Lana – Gypsy Rocker, a casual luxe look that chanelled a bit of Stevie Nicks by way of Lana’s Instagram snap Your fashion sense rocked in 2017, Fiercenti! Here’s to an equally stylish 2018 :) Head over stilettos for Carmella's faux fur Teddy coat? We've flipped right along with you and started some research with an eye to buying 'cuz this is the coat of the season! They've been selling out everywhere so we had to do a bit of fancy stepping to find some that are still in stock. Fortunately, we're pretty good at fancy steps so..mischief managed :). Check these out and treat yourself...or add a little something to your gift list - for others and you! :
1. Shaggy Faux Fur Jacket by Trouve at Nordstrom 2. Textured Lapel Jacket at Zara 3. Reversible Contrasting Coat at Zara *I LOVE that this piece is reversible - wear now on the textured side. Wear later, when the fur trend has cooled, on the smooth side #WinWin 4. Chevron Hooded Faux Fur Coat from Gallery at Lord & Taylor 5. Textured Faux Fur Coat at Express 6.Kristie Coat by Jakke @ Urban Oufitters * note this piece is dark, teal blue, not black. Fabulous, isn't it? :) 7. Shawl Collar Faux Fur Coat by Gianni Bini at Dillards 8. Gray Faux Fur Hooded Jacket at Missguided 9. Oversized-Lapel Faux Fur Coat by Isaac Mizrahi at Lord & Taylor (a piece in neutral black - so hard to find rn! And a great oversized silhouette, too :) ) 10. Rita Fur Coat at Free People The (faux ;)) fur coat (or it’s fuzzy variant, the Teddy coat) has always had a place in fall/winter fashion and this year, the look has taken on new importance as a way to convey laidback luxe. We’ve seen everything from classic neutrals to crazy colors, all topping the most chill of looks. Carmella gave the trend a try in two different ways. First up was a black monochrome look which used her knee-length coat over a simple black tee and velvet leggings. I love the play on texture here, but I’m finding the all-black a little monotonous, so I imagined jazzing it up a smidge by using an olive turtleneck instead of the tee. (Burgundy, scarlet, beige and gray would all work as well). The slim fit is key – you’re looking for a contrasting silhouette to the boxy, oversized coat. To re-create the textural contrast, add velvet leggings like ‘Mella, or reach for leather (she’d totally approve). If you’re not feeling (or possessed of) either of those, distressed skinny denim will work too ;). Add OTK boots and swap Carmella’s skull cap for an on-trend newsboy hat…or skip the hat altogether and just go for a sleek low pony. If you’re craving a sporty variation on this look, do tapered sweats on the bottom and black sneakers. Tie the formality of the coat into the look by adding a few delicate touches of gold jewelry: a bar necklace, a selection of band rings, slim hoop earrings. No Teddy coat? No problem – top either look with a chunky, long cardigan instead.
Get ready, loves! It’s that time of year again: Silver Snap time! Every year, it is our tradition at Diva-Fierce to collaborate with all of you to choose the ONE very best photoshoot of the year from the Divas and the Knockouts and award them our Silver Snaps. This year’s polls will be up a little later this week. In the meantime, enjoy an hors d’oeurve: our Honorable Mentions for 2017, both from the Divas’ (ok, ok, Superstars…but they’re still DIVAS to us!) offerings.
Nikki sent our raves and craves into overdrive and had us re-writing our 2018 #SquadGoals with her rendition of this photo gallery of New York city night life in the Chinatown Squad photoshoot. This set is everything a fashion ‘shoot should be: jaw-dropping outfit, killer poses, fabulous background. The dark, glamorous energy of New York sets the perfect stage for Nikki’s subtly sparkling blush bodysuit and curve-kissing pencil skirt. Her embellished waist belt stole my heart, while silver accessories in the form of a ruffled clutch and ankle-cuff sandals completed the look with just the right amount of shine. I was (still am!) wild over how Nikki incorporated so many trends (blush, metallics, ankle straps, bodysuits, waist belts), while still creating a classic and sophisticated look. The styling felt both luxurious and a bit dangerous, contrasting with the downtown vibe of the backdrop, even as the color palette harmonized perfectly. Nikki slayed pose after poised, self-assured pose, giving the impression that the big, tough city is just her plaything. The images in this incredible ‘shoot are the kind that haunt our dreams …inspiration boards! Also earning a shoutout is Becky’s impressive work in the High Oct(K)ane gallery, where her chosen outfit combined the high drama we’d expect from an editorial ‘shoot with the accessibility we’d see from a streetwear set. In echoing Kane’s nightmarish stylings via spike bracelets and a chain belt, she touched on the incoming punk trend, which worked brilliantly, feeling both appropriate and relevant. She also nailed her poses, including the historically challenging squat, cementing her place on this year’s list of top photoshoots. Kudos, Becks – we’re lovin’ it over here! You can also check out the previous nominees and winners here and most recent nominees and winners here. WWE has recently had two new heel squads debut…and the two crews have some interesting similarities. They are each comprised of a perky blonde and two brunettes. They are each led by a punky chick with an attitude. They each go around decimating whatever face happens to be in their way at the moment. Only one recently received their own photoshoot, however. Of, course, that doesn’t matter because we’re going to break down the looks of both teams anyway :). You’re likely to be most familiar with two thirds of the squad manhandling superstar divas on Raw, Absolution: the recently returned Paige and the Golden Goddess, Mandy Rose. The other brunette in the trio is former MMA artist Sonya Deville. I’m excited to see her translate her martial arts skills to the ring. I’m also excited to see her change up her gear. The red marble print I can handle; I even like it’s smooth, hard connotation. The silver edging is livable, as well, But the styling of her skirt – as appropriately warrior-like as it is – unfortunately brings to mind a loin cloth. And I’m not saying one couldn’t make a loin cloth look totally modern and fierce, but this iteration is not there quite yet. Skirt-type gear is always challenging and it takes a really well-conceived and special design to work. A few ladies have sold me on it – Alicia Fox comes to mind – but my suggestion here would be to re-vamp this look with shorts or pants, either of which I think could work really well. Paige’s look is classic Paige – plenty of leather, plenty of studs, fishnets, and a little camo thrown in for good measure. She’s fully embracing her reputation with this persona and her gear, as we know it, fits right in. I like that her comeback looks have been so familiar. It’s a great way to bring us back to who she is. It feels comfortable, like welcoming an old friend. Paige’s challenge is going to be to keep things interesting as the character and storyline evolve. Leather and studs have always been her trademark. Previously, she branched out with over-sized snake prints and deep colors. She’ll need to have a new twist to showcase fairly soon to prevent ennui from setting in. Interestingly, fashion has embraced punk and grunge during her time away, making her look feel more on trend, but less fresh and somewhat exotic. Hopefully, she’s got some ideas up her sleeve that will continue to set her apart. We’re equally familiar with Mandy’s well-received golden metallic gears. We’ve also seen her explore lace-embellishments and Celtic-knot-like designs. I was blown away with her lingerie-like metallic and lace outfit. And I like this version, with the black piping and crystal accents. I’m 100% on board for her addition of the choker, as well. On the other hand, all gold all the time is going to get old in a hurry, even with variations in silhouette, unless she’s super creative about how she handles her look. I’ll be interested to see what directions Mandy goes in, especially since she’s already proven herself to be a superstar who is aware of fashion and has an interest in it.
Brie and Nikki attended the Teen Choice Awards in mid-August sporting similar, but not the same, maxi slip dresses. I always love when they do this kind of look that coordinates, but also lets each of them reveal their individuality. Nikki’s nude dress is from Alice and Olivia. She added a wide dark choker and completed the look with pale nude heels. Despite the leg-lengthening effect of the nude, I think I might have preferred black strappy heels here to tie in with her necklace. Brie’s dress and black platform ankle strap heels are from Planet Blue. I love the steel gray shade of this piece! It has the sophistication of black without being black and it feels more unique. I also love the way she combined a black choker with a gold pendant for a layered jewelry look. It adds interest to the minimalist dress and a welcome hint of shine. The twins’ next event was at the Curve Expo, promoting BirdeeBee. Nikki paired a black tee with white split-leg pants. This is the 100% right away to do the split leg! By stopping at mid-calf, the split is intriguing without being ridiculous and it’s appropriate for a promotional event such as this. She finished the look with the Planet Blue sandals worn by Brie to the Kids’ Choice Awards. I often find the center-parted hairstyle harsh, but I really love the way it looks here on Nikki – sleek and fierce! Brie chose a black, wide-leg jumpsuit for the event. It’s not ground-breaking, but it is polished and professional. She wisely added a dose of drama with her studded sandals and the whole look is quietly chic.
I don’t usually go wild over sunglasses, but these metallic-tipped cat-eye shades from Fendi that Nikki is wearing are just too cool not to call out! Add a red lip, red nails and red wine…what else does a fashionable girl need? :) Summer was channeling her inner Carmella in this Insta-snap with buddy Stella Kae. She paired a leopard print dress from Show Me Your Mumu with black combat boots. This whole look has an untamed, derriere-kicking attitude to it which is super fun! I’m a huge fan of her leather newsboy cap as well – it just ladles on extra attitude! She’s also selling me on that lip purse – something I would never dream of actually owning , but I love the kick of red it adds to this look. So, when are these two ladies starting a fashion blog? |
