Question of the moment: can Brie review three months of fashion before the end of the year? Welp…I have zero clues. But I’m gonna try :).
Barbie’s late September gem of a look is a New Year’s outfit waiting to happen. I was wild over this the instant I saw it: denim button down, sequin pencil skirt – what’s not to love? Barbie completed the look with leg-lengthening nude pumps and kept her make-up soft as well, letting the shine from her skirt be the main focus. I love how this outfit is both relaxed and party-worthy at the same time! PS I would also happily do this look with a flannel buttondown ;) Brandi showed off this snap on her Instagram, which seems to be from a photoshoot with Cody and herself. That dress tho! Lace, appliqué, sheer – it’s a total confection of gorgeousness wrapped up in an LBD. Brandi tones it down by keeping her hair long and loose and accenting it simply, with nude pumps, making the overall ensemble come off incredibly chic. I love this girl’s style! Have I mentioned that? (Only perpetually, yes?). Lana updated her previous tv look (this vest+pencil skirt combo which reminded me of her early Ravishing Russian style) with red lapels. She echoed the shade in her lips and lovely ankle strap heels. I love her in red – it’s a stunning color for her, so I like this iteration very much. I do hope she’s going to do more than change lapel colors for this era, though, ‘cuz that could get old in a hurry. Lana has a wonderful sense of style, so I’m placing my bets on seeing her change up a bit more soon. Charlotte often reaches for black monochrome looks for her tv appearances, and she does it again here, pairing a black cropped top with leather leggings and suede knee boots. The silhouette created by this pairing is a little challenging for her body type, which is quite straight. While the leggings help to define her waist, the top kind of cancels that out and makes her look more blocky. A looser and/or blousonne-style top would work better for these super-skinny bottoms. Alternatively, shortening the height of the crop just slightly, so it hit at the narrowest part of her body could work too. We saw Alexa go for a similar look, using nearly all black, with leather leggings on the bottom. Blissy paired them with a simple, longer-length tank and topped the ensemble with a printed, gray hooded vest. I love the look of the shorter vest layered over the longer tank, as well as the sporty vibe it brings to the look. I’m super glad she added the hardware-embellished ankle booties! They add that totally needed dose of jazz to the look.

The Inspiration Boards have become one of the most popular features here on diva-fierce.com – which thrills me because I love creating them! As the year winds down, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the looks that all of you loved best this year, as determined by the number of views. What was capturing your oh so fashionable gaze in 2017?
1. Maryse – Lacy Layers …ok, technically, this post is from 2016. I was still developing the concept then and didn’t do a year-end Top list, but I wanted to recognize it here, as it was one of the most viewed posts for mooooonths after it went up and gets a significant number of hits even now, over a year later. 2. Barbie – Candy & Flowers…I loved the sweet colors and unexpected pop of florals in this accessible and chic look from Barbie. So did you :) It was the runaway favorite of the year, getting nearly double the number of views of any other look. 3.Mckenzie – Denim 70’s…The 70’s has been a massive influence on fashion over the past few years and this re-imagining of Mckenzie’s Americana look embraced it wholeheartedly, with earthy colors, midi lengths and an off-the-shoulder silhouette. It got plenty of love from you, earning the next most popular spot. 4. Becky – Metal & Lace-kicker…nipping at the heels of the Denim 70’s look was one from a very different genre: a play on Becky’s femme-meets-tough-chick ring gear that melded lace pieces with hardware accents. It seems the Fiercenti who frequent diva-fierce love a whole range of styles! And that is so awesome because…me too! 5. We had three looks in nearly a dead heat for the fifth spot: Natalya - a la Natalya, a glamour-tinged riff on Nattie’s incredible gear, Naomi – When Tulle Met Stripes, a translation of Nay-nay’s Valentine’s Day ‘shoot look that paired chic tulle with the breezy Parisian vibe of stripes and Lana – Gypsy Rocker, a casual luxe look that chanelled a bit of Stevie Nicks by way of Lana’s Instagram snap Your fashion sense rocked in 2017, Fiercenti! Here’s to an equally stylish 2018 :) Get ready, loves! It’s that time of year again: Silver Snap time! Every year, it is our tradition at Diva-Fierce to collaborate with all of you to choose the ONE very best photoshoot of the year from the Divas and the Knockouts and award them our Silver Snaps. This year’s polls will be up a little later this week. In the meantime, enjoy an hors d’oeurve: our Honorable Mentions for 2017, both from the Divas’ (ok, ok, Superstars…but they’re still DIVAS to us!) offerings.
Nikki sent our raves and craves into overdrive and had us re-writing our 2018 #SquadGoals with her rendition of this photo gallery of New York city night life in the Chinatown Squad photoshoot. This set is everything a fashion ‘shoot should be: jaw-dropping outfit, killer poses, fabulous background. The dark, glamorous energy of New York sets the perfect stage for Nikki’s subtly sparkling blush bodysuit and curve-kissing pencil skirt. Her embellished waist belt stole my heart, while silver accessories in the form of a ruffled clutch and ankle-cuff sandals completed the look with just the right amount of shine. I was (still am!) wild over how Nikki incorporated so many trends (blush, metallics, ankle straps, bodysuits, waist belts), while still creating a classic and sophisticated look. The styling felt both luxurious and a bit dangerous, contrasting with the downtown vibe of the backdrop, even as the color palette harmonized perfectly. Nikki slayed pose after poised, self-assured pose, giving the impression that the big, tough city is just her plaything. The images in this incredible ‘shoot are the kind that haunt our dreams …inspiration boards! Also earning a shoutout is Becky’s impressive work in the High Oct(K)ane gallery, where her chosen outfit combined the high drama we’d expect from an editorial ‘shoot with the accessibility we’d see from a streetwear set. In echoing Kane’s nightmarish stylings via spike bracelets and a chain belt, she touched on the incoming punk trend, which worked brilliantly, feeling both appropriate and relevant. She also nailed her poses, including the historically challenging squat, cementing her place on this year’s list of top photoshoots. Kudos, Becks – we’re lovin’ it over here! You can also check out the previous nominees and winners here and most recent nominees and winners here. Becky kicked off August with this super-chill look, which topped a simple tee and jeans with a floral bomber jacket. I’m so in love with her choice to go with a floral piece here! Not only is it spot on trend, but it elevates the look to something more interesting than a more laidback, classic, monotone bomber would have. The pretty, dynamic print adds vibrancy to the style statement. As described in the Inspiration Board with this look, a pair of black booties is all that’s needed to complete this outfit. Becks was equally casual and cool in her look for visiting the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, where she paired a lace-bodice tee with sporty detailing and flared blue denim. The tee is a fab choice – a unique, statement piece that still laidback. The spot on-trend flared jeans pick up the blue piping in her top, pulling the look together. This outfit is made to finished with sneakers: red, white, bright blue or a metallic.
So, the Big Dub is at it again. Their annual release of truly hideous Christmas sweaters has been foisted upon the world yet another year. These may be fun. They may be humorous. They may be appallingly ridiculous. They may be many great and good things. But they are not fashion. All apologies, but…no. So, every year, I break out my Positivity Detector and search for a silver lining among the horror. This year, we get …snowballs. It’s not much, but, hey..it’s something :). They assist the Lady Superstars in the best part of this ‘shoot: the poses! The gals really surpassed themselves this year in that department. Sasha gave us wonderful playfulness, Renee gave us some thoroughly Austin-esque attitude, Alexa all but challenged us to a virtual snowball fight. Natalya also wins huuge props from me for her gorgeous hair and make-up. I love that she put so much sophistication into her look. It’s so chic that it very nearly redeems that green sweater, especially the way that she’s layered it over a classic LBD and rounded off the ensemble with leather boots. If you *must* put one of these things on your person, this is the way to go. It shows you do actually have style; you just also don’t take yourself too seriously. Mickie and Becky also do an excellent job of making these sweaters something you can show your face to the world in. Both of their interpretations are more chill than Natties. Mickie adds distressed leggings in a funky plum tie-dye pattern. The choker necklace helps. Completing the look with heeled combat or hiking boots would strike just the right note – relaxed, but with clear attention to the style statement. Becky’s light gray moto leggings add a nice color counterpoint, as well as sleekness and attitude, which she reiterates with OTK boots – I love that she chose such fierce footwear, as well as pants with presence. Basic leggings these are not and that’s a good thing. As with Nattie’s look, showcasing her style chops with the rest of look elevates it and makes the sweater quirky commentary, rather than goofy. Brava, ladies: I can handle that kind of translation without twitching (much) :).
Becky’s look from the recent Kane tribute photoshoot is pretty street-worthy in and of itself…if you happen to have a red-accented black jumpsuit hanging around in your closet. If you don’t…well, I’m sorry , you’ll have to go naked today. Just kidding! Please don’t do that – fashion is waaay too much fun to leave home without it :). It is a bit trickier, though, to translate this look, with its sleek, engineering-esque punk aesthetic over to more common pieces. It becomes about the idea of the look, rather than an exact match. To begin, I envisioned simplifying the main look to all black, which opens up a lot more options. Next, I worked with this concept as a two-piece outfit instead of a jumpsuit. The crux of the styling is to get an aerodynamic, streamlined vibe. You can do that with almost any curve-hugging black top you have: a zippered blazer, a leather moto jacket, even an elevated sweatshirt (hoodies ttly allowed!) with a few structured details, like zippered pockets or varsity stripes, will work. I’ve envisioned this item zipped up, acting as a top, rather than an open upper layer, so wear whatever makes you comfortable below. Bonus points if it’s red ;). A similar theory applies on the bottom: choose anything with a form-fitting, taut or tough vibe – consider slim track pants, skinny jeans, moto pants or similarly hardware-heavy options, pieces with leather accents or side-stripes in a contrasting color or material. Also think about using any pair you own that has red stripes, red lining, etc. My first instinct was to reach for a straight silhouette, which you can totally do. To be authentic to Becky’s look, though, actually requires a slight flare, so don’t forget about your bootcut and softly widening-legged pieces! To bring in the Kane-esque punk-from-hell vibe, you’ll need jewels with a ‘tude: think spikes, studs, chains, grommets. Whatever you own in that vein, drag it out. Since it’s the main communicator of the theme, don’t be afraid to layer it up: earrings, a stack of bracelets, or one on each wrist, a selection of rings, all of the above. Complete the look with a shot of red: ankle booties (with flared pants outside the bootie a la Becky, or slim pants inside the bootie, unless they’re cropped), or red pointy pumps. Consider red sneakers as an option as well. If you are the proud non-owner of any red footwear of any kind, go with hardware-accented ankle boots, OTKs or black pointy pumps (bonus points for studded pairs). I hope this inspires you to get your Kane (x Becky) on! Happy styling :)
The ladies of WWE showed their love for Kane this Halloween, via a photoshoot tribute that was rife with interesting fashion. Instead of trying to copy Kane’s look precisely, these snaps are more of “Variations On A Theme By Kane”; the ladies interpret the concept of The Undertaker’s evil brother through their own vision and style. I like the idea – it makes for a much more engaging ‘shoot than a more direct interpretation, as each Superstar is freer to be creative and personalize the snaps. The success of this ‘shoot is fueled from the get-go by the inferno-filled backdrop. At times embellished with industrial furniture, at times with barbed wire-vined walls, it looks totally fab and hellacious without being distracting.
Natalya kicks off the set in a black bodysuit topped with an open-weave metallic tunic sweater. She added a host of accessories: a super-cute cat-ear headband, hoop earrings, a wide gold choker, a black leather waist belt and lacy garter straps. All those subtexts add a complexity to the fashion statement we don’t often see from Nattie and I applaud her risk-taking here and her willingness to experiment. I do think the look might have been stronger with an item or two less; the choker in particular, I think, could be jettisoned without regret. I’m not exactly sure if I love the look of the unhooked garter straps, but I do love the subtle sultriness they bring to the look. The waist belt I naturally adore and she wins Fierce points for that trendy and fab choice! She completed the look with satin OTK boots – so sexy and chic at the same time! Seriously, Kane – even with all his pyrotechnics – was never this hot! Smoky eyes and a soft pink lip accented this outfit in just the right way – smoldering, but not brazen. And Nattie worked the poses in her ever on-point, confident way, creating a slow, steady burn throughout her snaps. |
