Cathy kicked off August with a fun pairing that’s deceptively complicated. It’s a stripe-on-stripe combo, created via the wide panel-like sections of denim that form her skirt. Melding different types of stripes in a single look can be tricky, but the difference in widths is unified by the shared vertical direction, making this ensemble very successful. I love how it invites you to think about it in a more in-depth way! I also love the trendy nod of the double-buckle she added. The defined waist and additional flash add just right amount of silhouette and spark. We don’t get to see her shoes, but black ankle booties would be my pick. Next up is a romper that, naturally, I love :). The color alone is pretty much all I need to see, but the lace details make this piece extra special. I’d lean toward nude ankle strap sandals as a finish to dress it up or white sneakers for a more relaxed styling. I’m also going wild over the fact that Cathy styled her hair in a half up-do! Woohoo! :). She’s a huge fan of the simple center part, but I love seeing something different now and again and this looks completely stunning on her! She gives us an Americana vibe with her next look, a red and white striped coord set that she completed with simple white sneakers. The whole outfit is simple, laidback and super cute! She was still all about the stripes at SummerSlam-time, sporting this knit dress with an interesting knot-front detail. Cathy kept the styling thoroughly minimal: no statement earrings, not even a tiny pendant. The entire statement comes from the dress, creating an edited, carefree vibe that’s perfect for summer. As with her previous cood set, this outfit is made to be completed with white sneakers, just like the one sin her next outfit, a floral-printed romper. We often see Cathy in bright, intense colors; they tend to work flawlessly for her and this piece is no exception. She kept her center part, but styled her hair in a low pony, which fits the laidback, sneaker-finished styling nicely. That being said, with all the sneakers we’ve seen from her, I wouldn’t have minded seeing her go with a pair of pointed black flats here, just to switch things up a little.

The ladies of WWE showed their love for Kane this Halloween, via a photoshoot tribute that was rife with interesting fashion. Instead of trying to copy Kane’s look precisely, these snaps are more of “Variations On A Theme By Kane”; the ladies interpret the concept of The Undertaker’s evil brother through their own vision and style. I like the idea – it makes for a much more engaging ‘shoot than a more direct interpretation, as each Superstar is freer to be creative and personalize the snaps. The success of this ‘shoot is fueled from the get-go by the inferno-filled backdrop. At times embellished with industrial furniture, at times with barbed wire-vined walls, it looks totally fab and hellacious without being distracting.
Natalya kicks off the set in a black bodysuit topped with an open-weave metallic tunic sweater. She added a host of accessories: a super-cute cat-ear headband, hoop earrings, a wide gold choker, a black leather waist belt and lacy garter straps. All those subtexts add a complexity to the fashion statement we don’t often see from Nattie and I applaud her risk-taking here and her willingness to experiment. I do think the look might have been stronger with an item or two less; the choker in particular, I think, could be jettisoned without regret. I’m not exactly sure if I love the look of the unhooked garter straps, but I do love the subtle sultriness they bring to the look. The waist belt I naturally adore and she wins Fierce points for that trendy and fab choice! She completed the look with satin OTK boots – so sexy and chic at the same time! Seriously, Kane – even with all his pyrotechnics – was never this hot! Smoky eyes and a soft pink lip accented this outfit in just the right way – smoldering, but not brazen. And Nattie worked the poses in her ever on-point, confident way, creating a slow, steady burn throughout her snaps. The ladies of WWE gave us a huuuuge range of fashion as they attended ComicCon this summer. Noelle kept things simple and straightforward by pairing a deep blush cropped halter top with a black pencil skirt. It’s nicely polished and put together for this kind of event and consequently gets a thumbs up from me. We don’t get to see her shoes, but blush sandals would seem to be the most intuitive choice. I can also see adding a touch of hardware with a chain-handled bag for a little extra va-voom. Renee styled leather overalls in a unique way, leaving one side un-buckled for a drapey, casual twist on the standard approach. She layered a bright graphic tee below. Since her styling made her overalls more casual, I think I would have preferred the contrast of a fancier top – a bright silk button-down, multi-color striped tee or band-collared blouse -, but this shade of intense aqua looks marvelous on Renee. I also give her massive props for the creative silhouette. She completed the look with peep-toe ankle boots for just the right dose of fierce. I was shocked to see Becky choose such a formal piece as this metallic jumpsuit; it’s a far cry from the casual attire she often reaches for. It’s not inappropriate, however, and I’m really excited to see her in something so daring. The one-shoulder detail gives it a nice touch of uniqueness and the space-age vibe is quite intriguing. The only thing on my wishlist is that she had finished the look with the grounded fierceness of black: an ankle strap pump, pointy ankle boots, strappy sandals. Charlotte was gorgeous in this cobalt blue mini dress with its fluttery front. I love how perfect this piece is for her body shape; she’s really solidified her game on that front over the last year or so. This type of dress, with its boxier silhouette, really looks best when it’s quite short. The piece accomplishes that while concurrently maintining its professionalism via the high-low hem. Charlotte’s Maddye boots ( x Steve Madden) complete this look in soft, summery style.
Halloween is fast approaching so it’s definitely time to start putting together costumes and ideas! This year, I was inspired by Lana’s Dark Carnival look from last year. It got me wondering how many other photoshoots might be perfect points of departure for that special costume. I did some time-travelling and it turns out there are a fair few that got my creative juices simmering.
Kim: At Hell In A Cell, we saw "The Queen of Black Harts" Natalya defend her Championship against the "Genetically Superior" Charlotte Flair. Nattie came out to the ring confident, and ready to dominate. I love how her gear is never boring. Some might hear leather black bodysuit and go... "Well, that's bland". Oh, oh no. Not when you add cut outs, sheer fabric, and embellishments for days. My favourite aspect of this gear is the halter neckline, and all of the orange and silver crystals. This is such a refreshing change for Nattie, who usually sticks with her more recognizable shade of pink.
Brie caught our attention with this look which encapsulates her trademark boho flair. It pairs an antique rose peplum blouse with flowing sleeves and blue denim. I love Brie's coordinating mauve and periwinkle-gray make-up palette. ANd, of course, who can resist her pucker face? :) A white bead necklace and a gold pendant add polish to this vintage-casual look. She kept that vibe coming with her next outfit, a lovely ivory lace off-the-shoulder dress (the Marissa from Adelyn Rae) with black trim and a black bow at the bodice. I'm especially a fan of the ruffled-and-trimmed hem; there's something so sweetly throwback about that styling! Her low pony kept the look polished, but not overly formal. I would lay good money she completed this look with either black or ivory sandals :).
Brooke was also continuing in bohemian mode, pairing a navy tank with cut-off denim shorts. The highlight for me is the way she updated the look by topping it with a woven ivory fringe vest - it gives the outfit a trendy nod and upgrades the visual interest dramatically. I confess that I could live without the addition of the headband, but I love the laidback earthiness of her caramel sandals! Naturally, I can't do anything but rave over Cathy's outfit here: it has yellow! And what an amazing piece of yellow it is :) This spot on-trend one-shoulder ruffle top is from J. Crew (and is still available (and on sale!) here). She puts into a classic pairing with blue denim. With a statement that vibrant, you don't need much else to complete a look. Cathy adds a rose lip shade and ta-da: done and stylish. That's waaaay too easy, right? Finish with neutral (or yellow! :) I just had to get that in) heels or flats. We got a glimpse of Emma at the Mae Young Classic in a sheer-and-pieced crop top set above a black brassiere and mulberry pants. I'm not generally a fan of bra-baring styles, but I like the way it works here. The look comes off youthful and modern and it works on Emma. She also gets props for her choice of pants. The unusual and beautiful color makes this ensemble much more interesting. It helps her OTK boots to really stand out as well. This is a great look from Emma - it has a fierce, cool-girl vibe without feeling either too fussy or too nonchalant. Barbie went all out with the urban facet of her fashion sense in this look. She layered a sheer bodysuit under blue denim shorts (from One Teaspoon) and accessorized it with a black Hermés belt and black suede OTK boots. While I think Barbie pulls this off quite nicely, I’m generally not a fan of the visible brassiere look; it rocks in vids and editorials, but it’s a challenge to keep classy irl. Beyond that caveat, though, I love the punchy combo of light denim blue and black. The contrast heightens the power of the black pieces and the look comes off cool and fierce. She quickly returned to summer color with this gorgeously-hued tie-dyed bikini. The strappy bottoms are about as daring as it gets and def make this suit a jaw-dropper. However, it’s the intense shading of the pattern that really sells me on it – that rich magenta, contrasted with icy mint and spiced with hints of daffodil and paprika is so beautiful and just right for baking under a glowing sun. You may remember Barbie previously wearing this Gooseberry Intimates bodysuit in black. Then, she dressed it up by wearing pointy heels with it and black jeans. Here, she kept things more casual by pairing the white piece with blue denim and furry slippers that are totally Rihanna – literally, as well as figuratively, since they are from the Fenty x Puma line. A topknot and hoop earrings complete this off-duty starlet look.
Brandi was busy working the high-low look with this knotted top, which she paired with gray distressed denim and studded gladiator sandals. I love the way this casual ensemble still keeps its edge, thanks to the studs, distressing and, most importantly, the unique and au courant silhouette. This is classic Brandi in that it still retains the undercurrent of polished confidence, even as it explores a much more modern vibe. She created a much sexier aura with her next look, a strapless playsuit done in striped of varying width. They add wonderful visual interest to this piece, although the highlight has to be that plunging sweetheart neckline! Also noteworthy is Brandi’s choice of necklace: a bold gold pendant that’s just the right length to accentuate said neckline and the sultriness of this piece! She gets props for not going with a (at this point over-done) choker; the pendant is different and consequently stands out. She goes more formal yet for her next outfit, which is fine by me because it’s a genre Brandi excels at. She ramps up the fiery statement of this coral side-lace-up bodycon dress by adding a few shots of glam: studded heels, a glittering gold clutch and a statement earring(s?). With black sandal booties, and plainer accessories, this would be a standard date night look, but the formal accessories take it to a new level. |
