When is the next James Bond movie being filmed? In this black jumpsuit from Australian brand Nookie, Barbie is a Bond-girl-in-the-making! The slim, bodycon silhouette gives it plenty of sass, while the square neckline is sexy, but more importantly, super unique! The hardware accents on the straps and high neck give it just the right shot of attitude. Barbie completed the look up upping the sensuality factor with black strappy sandals. I’m also drooling over her blonde hair cascading down her shoulders in gorgeous waves! This 70’s-inspired styling looks incredible on her! Next up, she gives us a pair of sporty looks, which continue her love affair with black. One pairs a crop top with killer leggings that feature torn patches filled with fishnet fabric. Ogh…so hot I can’t even! Her high half-pony gives a bouncy, 80’s positivity to the look that I just love – it makes an effervescent counterpoint to the seriousness and focus of the black set. Black sneakers complete the monochrome look. She then adds white to the equation in this set from Missy Empire which pair a cropped tank with high-waisted leggings. The set gets a dose of streamlined sportiness from bold white striping on both pieces. I especially love the central positioning of the leg stripes and the way they flow into an additional horizontal stripe that highlights the hips. It creates a fun and versatile alternate waist visually and gives a sexy twist to this clean, straightforward set. Barbie rounded out the look with a cute black ski cap and white sneakers. Her next look heads into sweeter territory as she uses a satin floral robe as a topper for a white knit piece. The angle of the snap unfortunately makes it difficult to identify whether it is a pencil skirt (my first guess) or shorts. I love the idea of a robe over a skirt – it’s such a pretty and softly sexy alternative to a top! I could see it paired with an A-line midi skirt or denim as well. The one thing that niggles at me here is that the knit looks to be quite lightweight and possibly see-through. I hope that’s just an illusion created by the lighting because the appearance of poor quality material can drag a look down. From the sensuality and beauty of this look, Barbie moves to a highly experimental combination that collects a lace bustier bodysuit, cut-off denim shorts, a hooded robe and clear plastic OTK boots. The boots are the standout piece in this eclectic look and they’re so wrong they just might be right – they immediately make me think of the clear pieces shown at Chanel for this spring. With such a high-drama choice, my instinct would be to tone down the rest of the look, but Barbie goes full out and, even as much as there is going on here, it comes very near to rocking the heck out of my world. One small swap to a plainer bodysuit and I’m thinking I’d be here for it. And I’m in shock that I’m saying that about plastic! :) Props to Barbie – there are very few ladies who could make me a believer on that!

Mid-February found Nikki in this stunning Ronnie Kobo dress, which is perfectly simple, except for its daring cutout back! I love the way the drama of this piece is concentrated around that single detail! Nikki enhanced the effect by wearing a station pendant necklace set to the back; it’s an incredible and perfect choice that looks fabulous and works flawlessly. It also reminds me of the way Coco Chanel wore her pearls dripping down her back in one of her most famous portraits, which does nothing to dissuade me from adoring Nikki’s styling. She added red statement earrings that bring out the colors in the necklace, as well as a black Louis Vuitton bag. We don’t get to see her shoes, but I’m guessing pointy pumps in black or red :). She’s repping Birdiebee in her next look, with the most vintage of snaps. Posed in front of a red theater curtain, she wears a white brassiere and high-waisted brief from the line, topped with a two-tone faux fur jacket. I love the backstage-chanteuse connotation and nostalgic vibe of this shot – it’s gorgeous!
If that snap from Nikki isn’t enough glamour to slay your life, how about this one from Noelle? She’s enjoying a slice of pizza while looking thoroughly fabulous in a ballgown featuring an embellished bustier-type top and a black-and-white striped skirt. She’s topped the look with a cropped faux fur jacket in black and added a statement bracelet to complete the ensemble. Her messy bun is straight up gorge – she needs to wear her hair like this more often! I’m also totally here for her dark cranberry lip, which adds a very modern moodiness to this chic ensemble. I love this shot and I will be adding “eat pizza in a ballgown” to my Must Do In This Lifetime list because of it :). Laurel and McKenzie were looking casually chic as they hung out together earlier this winter. Both ladies sported graphic tees (shoutout to McKenzie for her good taste in selecting the AC/DC! :)), paired with blue distressed denim. This pairing is one I always enjoy, especially when those punk leanings are spiked with glamour – in this case via faux fur coats! I’m equally wild over Laurel’s short jacket and McKenzie’s car coat and the way they inject fabulosity into this attitude-heavy look. The one piece of these ensembles I can’t get behind is the fur slides. Fur on shoes = yes, slides = yes, together = no. They look like furry slippers – which is probably the point :). I completely understand how awesomely comfortable they must be but still a no over here. Slippers and slipper-approximations are not for strolling the streets in. Ankle booties would have been my go-to. That said, from the ankles up, I adore both these looks!
Michelle posted this #tbt shot on her Instagram and the feels ran rampant for me. This photoshoot was the last fashion ‘shoot she ever did and the only one I got to review in real time rather than as a throwback. I remember calling it “Haute et Basse (High & Low) and raving over the new ground Michelle broke in some of her poses – her off-camera pensive stare is an unforgettable gem and this stance was another of my faves. Equally memorable was the horrid photo quality of the original release, for which I doubt any Michelle fans have ever forgiven the Big Dub, although I believe HQ versions of some of the snaps did eventually make their way into the cloud. The body-con dress and OTKs was a combo we saw a lot from Michelle; it was one of her signature LayCool looks, usually punctuated by crave-worthy statement jewels. It’s fun to come back to it now…and it still looks flawless :). If you’re going to do out-of-this-world-glittery boots, this is a fantastic way to style them! Naomi let her sparkling footwear have center stage as she set them against a simple black backdrop of a cami and leggings, topped with a black blazer. I love the unique tie-front detail on this piece, as well as the fact that she chose something of this level of formality (note the satin lapels) as a topper. It elevates the look significantly and bridges the gap between the high impact of her boots and the low-key vibe of her under-layers in just the right way. Stellar styling! I was immediately attracted to the gorgeous melon shade of Nikki’s dress in this snap from Total Divas! It’s warm, radiant, a complete jaw-dropper. The rest of the dress is simple, and that’s perfect: the color is all you need to make this piece stand out. Nikki added a massive statement necklace in a gold tone that echoes the sunlit quality of the dress, giving the look the sophisticated touch that pulls it together. She completed the outfit with nude heels, which work beautifully. (Gold metallic would be a second fab option). Natalya’s look is much more laidback, but equally solid: she paired a lace-up bodysuit with blue denim and topped it with a minimalist leather jacket. I love how clean and cool this ensemble is! Her shoe choice would tell all about this look: sneakers would give it an on-trend athleisure vibe, ankle booties would take into off-duty rocker territory, classic pointy pumps would elevate it to casual chic. Nikki attended a December event for Birdiebee charity partner Dress For Success (an organization that provides workplace attire and tools to help women present themselves in a professional way for job interviews, as well as programs to teach women about personal finance, so they can successfully manage the money they earn). She chose her trademark red and black color story, pairing a classic body-kissing v-neck midi sheath with a black peplum jacket. The dramatic longer length of the jacket brings extra panache and uniqueness to the simplicity of the dress. Nikki completed the look with black chunky-heeled mary-janes with a rounded toe – an unexpected vintage element from this generally quite modern lady! Bright red lips carried the color and provided just the right finishing touch. By matching her dress shade, Nikki kept the color story very simple, which gave it tremendous impact. A deeper red or a nude shade would have softened the look significantly. I love how Nikki smartly switches her style up to be appropriate for the event she’s attending. She doesn’t wear date night or athleisure looks to this type of function, she keeps her look professional, which is exactly the right thing to do. I applaud!
She was looking amazing again - though in a much more glamorous way! - on New Year’s Eve as she celebrated with sister Brie. Nikki chose a sexy nude-blush cami, paired with gorgeous matching flared pants with a glorious sheen. I love the way the luxe fabric of her pants lends formality to the laidback camisole, as does the wide, coordinating sash at her waist. She gives the look a fabulous touch of spice by completing it with floral ankle booties, which bring a delightful dose of color and pattern to the otherwise monochrome outfit. A slim gold choker and statement earrings add a nice touch of shine, further serving to elevate the look, while her dark burgundy lips add modern, moody drama and her polished low pony brings sexy sophistication. This is such a fabulous look from Nikki! (And PS – if you’re considering re-creating it, it’s worth nothing that it’s so well-chosen that it will have just as much impact with a less daring cami ;)) Brie’s outfit was simpler in concept, but equal in drama, as she donned a glittering maxi dress from Parker NYC. The long sleeves give the piece a trendy 70’s vibe, which is accentuated by its easy glamour. Brie echoed that with her long, loose hairstyle and looks absolutely stunning! Nikki’s flair for drama was on full display in her next ensemble! I’m wild over her magnificent lace blouse with its layered-ruffle sleeves – it’s so feminine and beautiful! We need to talk about the styling though. I understand the trendiness of having only a bra underneath and Nikki has the body to rock this look into oblivion, but I can’t generally recommend it for the non-paparazzi’d of us. I do appreciate the way it shows off the beauty of the lace… but a nude cami would give essentially the same effect with a more sophisticated vibe. I’m back in for her choice to toughen it up by adding leather pants and OTK boots - it keeps the lace from feeling too sweet. Despite my not being totally here for the styling, I can’t help but admit that this looks incredible on her! Maryse gave us her best interpretation of a harajuku girl during her visit to Tokyo on Total Divas. Although I can’t imagine actually wearing it, I find the harajuku styling visually interesting – it’s so colorful and complicated that you really have to stop and analyze each aspect of it. It’s a credit to Maryse that she gives us a creditable take on the look, despite it clearly not being anything like her personal style. You have to have a real appreciation of and talent for fashion to change gears so dramatically and not have it look like a hot mess! And Marsye looks like fun personified :). He next outfit is right back in her wheelhouse with a sensual bustier and pants set. While the color matches flawlessly, the look gets a nice visual lift from the difference in texture – the smooth sheen of her pants contrasts nicely with the velvet bustier. Her high pony and key neckline combine to show off her neckline, while her neon pink nails gives the look and 80’s-referencing pop. From there, she moves on to a floral dress with a mockneck and cap sleeves combining to create a strong, visual triangle at the top. The pairing of the two elements creates the impression of a cheongsam. I love how we are seeing Maryse’s take on traditional Asian style, filtered through her own fashion sensibilities, as well as the way she shifts her look to reference her location. Ag with her previous look, her bright nails bring a joy-inducing shot of extra color.
Natalya looked amazingly chic as she participated in King 5 News’ New Day Northwest Hot Topics show. She paired a stunning LBD with leather OTK boots for a simple, but impactful ensemble. It’s the detaisl that give this look presence: the notch collar, the cap sleeves, the lace edging – these all combine to make this classic LBD interesting and unique. I love her choice to go with the textural contrast of leather for her boots instead of the more expected suede. The smooth leather plays beautifully against the knit fabric of the dress. The whole look is trademark Natalya and I adore it! She noted on her Instagram that she got to meet shoe designer Steve Madden that same day. How awesome is that? I hope she got a sneak peak at his new spring offerings! :) Next, she paired the Delaina top from Alice and Oivia (which we previously saw Maryse wear) with a black maxi skirt. Although it’s a more expected look, I’m enjoying the subtlety of Natalya’s pairing; it lets the beautiful floral print have the bulk of the attention. Her leather OTKs again completed the look.
I can’t resist reviewing a couple of Nikki’s promo looks for her DWTS appearance. I mean, it’s not every day we get to look at a Gothic Romance style gown from a fashion perspective! It would take a very fancy occasion or a who-cares-its-awesome-I’m-wearing-it attitude to do a piece like this for real life, but just look at it! The crystal-emblazoned bodice, the glamorously gathered and ruched skirt, the rich cabernet color – this is one gorgeous piece of fashion! Who could resist the opportunity to feel like the heroine of a vintage novel, should the opportunity arise –even if it’s just for day? Hmm….Halloween, anyone? ;) Nikki naturally brought the full quotient of glamour to it by adding matching satin gloves and a statement crystal choker. My only wish is that she had gone with a more formal hairstyle – perhaps a messy up-do – to suit the fancy vibes of the fashion. Also, I need to point out the coolness of the sword as an accessory. How often to consider whether your weaponry matches your outfit? So much glam, so much opulence, so much fun! In a very different, but equally enjoyable genre is her Parisian look, a teaser for the Argentine Tango. I’m in heaven with the classic vibes of this look. The red and navy combo is an unbeatably chic pairing, especially with the hallmark French vibe of her striped top. Nikki played up the Parisian feel by knotting her red silk scarf at her neck and adding a beret. Red ankle strap flats (omg! Nikki in flats?! Has gravity stopped working?) complete the look. Despite being a promo concept, this outfit would translate easily and wonderfully to a street look. I love a lot about this look from Mickie! I love that it feels like her, channeling her glam side. I love that it reminds me of something LayCool would wear. I love the irony of Mickie rocking a LayCool look – she’s a long way from Piggy James, babes! The crystal belt gives this ensemble the Western vibe we often see Mickie dabble in, but the pinstriped vest throws in a slightly masculine and very polished curveball that give the pairing a kind of throwback cool. Her pin-straight hair was a perfect choice, bringing sleekness and modernity to the look. She completed it with OTKs in suede – hard to go wrong with that extra shot of fierce!
I’m also digging this look from Natalya. It’s the kind of classicism we’d expect from her in terms of this gorgeous LBD, but that sweetheart neckline? Bring me a fan -that’s hot! Her beauty look is perfection as well. Her shimmery eyes and mauve lip feel uncontrived and look stunning! Nattie’s big glam tv looks are amazing, but I also enjoy seeing her do softer stylings, like this one that seem like something she would wear when she’s not working, just being her gorgeous self. LBD’s were having a moment for her, as she wore another in a midi length during her tour of China. The minimalist aesthetic rules, as she accents it with black pointy pumps, a Louis Vuitton bag, oversize sunnies and nothing else. It’s edited, subtle and oh so chic! Although, I almost missed it because I was totally focusing on what has to e the cutest dragon I have ever seen. That yellow fuzzball is totes adorable and I want one! Yes, I realize it’s someone in a costume. I’m not interested in the someone, but the costume? I want to stick that in a corner of my room and hug it for about a hundred years. |
