Here we have another one of those 'shoots that I walk the love-don't love line on. The fashion is either already seen or barely able to be seen. Either way, it pretty much precludes a review of it. On the happier side, the theme of this set is even more up my alley than the superheroes one. The Big Dub had a field day with Photoshop to show off the "spirit animal"..in some cases, spirit material :) of several of the divas. The choices were on point and executed quote well. Money was an obvious pairing with Sasha Banks and she definitely rocks the Lady Warbucks feel. The crazy colors of this gear works perfectly to add color to this snap..although thematically, I might have preferred her bedazzled trench coat. The spinning gears represent Becky's magic-infused steampunk persona. Her expression in this snap is top notch and the angle is gorgeous! I hope she keeps that on file for shoots that are to come in future. Quite possibly my favorite piece of the three are the soaring ravens exploding from Paige's rebel heart. Although she may draw the line at feeding on death as they do, they're dark spirit and deep connection to rebirth parallels her never-say-die attitude. The artistic execution of this snap is especially compelling. The choice of her jumping pose harmonizes beautifully with the birds' flight.
Just recently, I read a quote over at one of my favorite blogs, TaySwiftStyle.com - Questions section, which captured one of my beliefs about photoshoots for the divas..uh..cough...superstars. Apols, ladies ;). Sarah was discussing Glee when she said "I'm a strong believer that a show's fashion can speak volumes and can create storyline through its subjects just as much as dialogue or even music". But I think her words apply to 'shoots as well. We see the ladies on tv, we get o know they're wrestling personas. To really flesh out their characters, however, and to really bring depth to the action, the avenue of the photoshoot is unsurpassed. How many divas teased and developed a heel turn via a sudden switch in the their fashion? We've seen WWE recently veer away from fashion-style shoots and it's a nice change...but I wouldn't want them to become a lost art, either. They offer too much potential to be relegated to some attic of forgotten media. In fact, if anything, I think the Powers That WWE have possibly even been guilty of under-utilizing the potential of 'shoots to add dimension to what we know of the ladies. We've seen flashes of it in the past: AJ"s fashion always firmly reflected her nerdy-geek leanings, spiced with 90's grunge. We saw hints of the business woman and the just-married dreamer, but primarily, her fashion conveyed her particular, specific character. While AJ stayed true to one persona throughout her career, Michelle McCool metamorphosized from wallflower personal trainer, to bright-eyed All-American girl, to crazy chick to glamourous Mean Girl. Her fashion reflected this, shifting from workout gear, to classic sexy pieces, to black monochrome ensembles to sequined tanks and OTK boots. There was a direct connection between the changes we saw on tv and the fashion we saw in her 'shoots that emphasized and reinforced the changes, and created a connection with character during non-tv time. It was a subtle, but meaningful gesture that brought added impact to each variation Michelle made. Lana is one of the current divas who made use of 'shoots in a similar way, shifting from Ice Queen to rock n'roll girl as her on-screen relationship with Rusev cycled. It was - as it always is - mad fun to watch the shift in each era through the lens of her style. Just as fashion is the art we use in daily life to describe ourselves to the world, so too it is the vehicle through which the superstars convey who they are to us throught their careers. And the photoshoot is the delivery module :). So, all you wrestling promotions: keep 'em comin'!

Renee wants YOU....to be stylish this Memorial Day :) ...Well, actually I have no idea what Renee wants this Memorial Day, but if you do happen to be extra stylish on account of channeling her stellar fashion sense, I at least don't think she'd object :). With picnics abounding at the beginning of the summer holiday season, I've pulled a bunch of inspiring ideas from the Divas for how to look amazeballs at your next meal-in-the-great-outdoors outing :)
I used to live on the edge of my seat waiting for new Michelle 'shoots to come out. Literally. I still have the blisters on my...nevermind. TMI? Probs. I found pretty much every thing she did firing up my creativity for new looks. So my love for basically every shoot she ever did is strong. Aaaaannd narrowing down her top five shoots was a serious challenge ;). Fun, but oh so tough. However, I persevered (see where stick-to-it-iveness will get ya?) and I can present to you now: Michelle McCool's Top 5 Photoshoots!
A lil' bit of fierce and FFLLLLLLAWLeeeeeeeeeesss style inspiration today: we're getting our ideas from Michelle McCool's WrestleMania week look. Michelle slayed in an apple red halter top with flared jeans and a fierce pair of red sandals. Her trademark bold bracelet adds some extra punch to the look, along with a touch of flash at her neckline. If you're heading out to a concert, girl's night or a meet-n-greet for your fans (boyfriend? (boyfriendS?) ;) and want go full on LayCool, grab yourself a red cropped top. Match it up with flared jeans in a medium-light wash (go with bootcut if you don't have flares yet ;) and PS white denim will work just as well). Finish things off with a crazy HAWT pair of red heels: strappy, fringe-y, studded...you get the idea. A bold gold cuff (or a stack of slimmer pieces) brings the shine. Add a lariat or a LayCool-approved pair of statement earrings. If you want to tone this down a smidge for non-paparazzi company, try a tunic instead of a crop top. Roll long sleeves to show off your statement armwear. Jeans and jewelry: same as above. For a laidback feel, leave the tunic long and loose. Alternatively, add a bit more attitude by belting the waist: try fierce wide leather, skinny and studded. Finish with lace-up or pointy-toe flats. Then again, you could tuck the top in and go with a rhinestone-embellished piece instead - LayCool always did love them some glam! Coordinating neutral booties -perhaps with a Western vibe- provide the balance for the look if your go this route, along with leather+crystal baubletry. So, break out the red, dish out some real talk, remember to check your look in your mirror every few seconds so nothing falls out of place and #StayFlawless :)
Mon night is one of fashion's big events: The Met Gala! It's held in conjunction with the Met Costume Institute's Fashion exhibit and is always a place and time where new directions for fashion begin. Each year has a theme and attendees are encouraged to dress in accordance with it. Past themes have included "Punk", the work of Elsa Schiaparelli (the contemporary and rival of Coco Chanel), and "American Woman". Watching the red carpet is a great way to get an insight on fashion's mood and where it's going to turn it's head next! This year's theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion In The Age Of Technology. That kind of title makes me think of very industrial, space-age kind of pieces - a bit grunge, a hint of goth, and lots of dark, rich colors, but especially fabrics with shine, or holographic textures. I can also picture a nod to the futuristic 80's, with strong shoulder silhouettes and defined waists. Metal and hardware are part of my vision as well: chains, studs, buckles...all three :) The Divas and KOs have had a number of moments that incorporate these themes. Most recent was Lana's fabulous trench from WrestleMania, but there's also Michelle's infamous trash bag dress and Lita's chain mail bikini. Velvet's leather, buckle-embellished corset feels right, as does Maria's super-studded strappy top (a favorite among many Divas several years ago) and studded belt and Kelly's lame' maillot. What do you think...will "Fashion In The Age Of Technology" mean industrial-inspired fashion? Or will it be about complexity, utilizing sophisticated stitching and piecing techniques and intricate prints and patterns that can only be created via technological advances? Or will it be about fashion's role in this technological age -one where style is about the antidote to all the electronica that surrounds us, and shifts into a more restful, grounding, bohemian basics era? Speak out in the comments! :)
If you, like me, count yourself among those souls who deeply miss the WWE fashion of Michelle McCool, prepare to spend a few moments in heaven! We're devoting an entire post to the stle of the blonde beauty, replete with her WrestleMania fashion and a check-in on her current endeavors. It will probably culminate in our fervent (on bended knee...tears not optional) plea for her to return to WWE (in any capacity) which she will dismiss - should she deign to see it - with flawless iciness and a Regina-George-worthy put-down...which we will savor as if it was effusive praise ("She insulted me!...It was aaaaawesome!")
We start off on a slightly off-key moments from WM week. Michelle chose this extreme cutout mini dress with patterned sequin embellishments for the Hall Of Fame. Black is a definite departure for her in terms of her red carpet fashion game (which I always felt wasn't necessarily where her style shone). I like that she chose something unexpected, however, and also that even though it was black, it was far from a standard LBD. Ultimately, there's just a little too much going on here to make me really love this look. I DO love her high bun, though! This sleek, polished hairstyle is one Michelle always rocks and it's simplicity was an intelligent choice to pair with this dress. If workout looks are your jazz, you should be as wild over this look as I am - a mesh halter bralette? Take me to the gym, Master! I love the raw, fierce power of this piece. Pair it with simple black shorts and that's all you need to slay...everything! If everything isn't enough for you, try doing this dimensional braid a la Michelle. It's killer gorgeous - both with athletic gear and with more formal styles, like this metallic shift and statement collar ensemble. Tiny diamond studs bring a hint of shine and attitude in both cases. Of course, you rock diamond studs at the gym ...because...flawless! :) If you've been thinking about your upcoming Prom lately and need something to get your creative juice flowing, stick around! We've spent the last two weeks prom shopping and the fruits of our labor are yours for the snacking on...stylish comestibles, indeed ;) Before we get into the girl talk, here's an fyi: if you fall in love with any dress shown here, the links to all of them are available on our polyvore page under "Likes" (make sure you scroll down. When you get to the green Lands' End sweater, you've hit the end of the prom stuff lol), along with gobs of pretty shoes under $100. A huge percentage of my picks came from Nordstrom, which is a great place to start, since they also carry shoes and jewels...it's one-and-done shopping :)
Party Glam: One of the most fun things about a formal dance like the Prom is that you get to glam things up, if you choose to. You can think of it as your own personal red carpet :). On the flip side it's still a party..so you can rock a party look, spiced with glam. It's the kind of thing Barbie or Michelle would do! Barbie's gorgeous satin dress look is one of my all-time favs from her...it's so flirty and femme! Her high pony just makes it flawless! You can hardly get more classic for the Prom than a pink dress. Balancing that sweetness with black shoes is a tried and true combination. I always love throwing a spin into style, so I would think about matching it with navy or deep purple. Mixed-stone earrings or layered bracelets in blues, purples and magentas would complete the jewel-tones aesthetic. A crop-top and maxi skirt in silk or satin would also be a ttly Barbie choice. This white and azalea set can be kept fresh by going with white sandals. The silver detail adds a touch of icy glam. Chilled-steel glamour is also very much a Michelle kind of styling. A black dress with a touch of ruffle and a crystal belt would be just her thing! I love the simple sparkle of this one. While Michelle would probably up the dazzle factor with crystal shoes, I would lean toward the unexpected magic of a bright pop of color from something like these bright amethyst lace-up sandals. Like Barbie, Michelle would also try the two-piece look. Blue was always one of her trademark colors and it's obvi why: it's hard to go wrong in! This one has crystal accents at the collar and waist for chic, Old Hollywood-esque glitter. Simple silver pumps would finish this off without competing with that glorious set. |
