In early January, WWE held its annual press conference to announce the location of the next Wrestlemania and it turns out that the 34th edition of the Granddaddy Of Them All will be in New Orleans! Laissez le bon temps rouler, lovelies :) It was good times as far as fashion at the conference, for sure! (And it was an especially good time por moi as the Undertakermade an appearance *marks out madly* ahem. Sorry. *smoothes hair and attempts to act like an adult again while continuing to do an inner happy dance* Did I mention I love the Taker? He's actually the guy who made me a wrestling fan, but that's a tale for another day). To fashion! Alicia Fox was devastatingly 70's-chic with her leather midi pencil skirt in a wonderful mahogany shade. She paired it with a lovely, drape-y ivory blouse and solidified the fabulousness of the outfit by knotting an oblong dark floral silk scarf at her neck. I'm head-over-heels for the simple sophistication of this look - Foxy just smashes it! On the make-up front, I can often find the dark lip trend harsh, but here, the choice carries the rich color upwards and ties this whole sterling outfit together. This is another amazing combination from Foxy Fierce!
Alexa Bliss's little black dress sports dotted-tulle embellishments that give a sweet-vintage vibe to the piece. It's a fitting choice for the girly-tough style sensibilities we've seen so far from Blissy. Although I might have reached for something more professional than playful, Alexa carries this well - she has an adorable vivacity to her that makes this look work. She finished it with simple black pumps and a dose of her trademark sparkle via a crystal statement necklace. She also wins Fierce points for her sweet and pretty pinned half up-do. Maryse reprised the La Perla suit we raved over previously. Unlike that occasion, though, she chose soft blush shades for her make-up palette this time around and I love the effect! It's soft and has a natural-but-better glow that's completely stunning on her! Charlotte's choice was a sheer-inset LBD that added a subtle dose of sexy to a classic dress. Char's instincts for these type of events are generally spot on and such is the case here. My only caveat with this dress is that the fit seems just a touch off. Fortunately, however, its not particularly distracting from this classy-meets-flirty look. Charlotte adds in a fun twist by completing the styling with glittered pointy toe pumps in a surprising and welcome addition of glamour. Like Maryse, Stephanie re-uses a sheath for us: this beautiful robins-egg blue dress first caught our attention during Wrestlemania week this year and again during SummerSlam, when she dressed it down with a blazer. She's done the same here, adding a touch of cool-weather polish. Suede peeptoe booties finish off the look and I like the additional texture, as well as the way the black grounds the light, bright blue.

Oh my holy goalness Maryse! The serial slayage continues. If that phraseology seemed equivocal to you, let me spell it out: I LOVE this look. I could totally wear this. Turtleneck sweater, pencil skirt, cropped statement jacket. BOOM. Chic. Gorgeous. Maryse can pull off the most daring, glamorous, dramatic styles, but seeing her cross over to her sophisticated side definitely set my lil' heart a flutter in a special way. Happy Valentines Day, right? :) The elegant buttons and gathered shoulders on her military-inspired jacket give it panache and modernity, with timeless appeal. That is how you do a statement jacket, lovelies! And Maryse finishes the look with a stunning exclamation point: her crimson velvet OTKs. We can just take a moment here and soak up the flawlessness.
And the flawlessness does not stop with Maryse! I've been loving this latest era in Natalya's gear so much! It's just amazing. She blends leather and latex and sheer insets and crystal patterns in such incredible and beautiful ways! My favorites are unquestionably the black and crystal ones: the simple color scheme creates a ton of impact and glamour! In this particular variation, I'm drawn to the delicacy of the crystal placement. Placed at the edges of the silver sequin piping like this, it creates the lovely, feminine effect of a picot ribbon - just way sparklier ;)...and I love me some sparkle! With the clean geometric shapes of the leather panels, this gear has a modern, architectural feel, so the dainty texture makes a fabulous contrast, creating a harmony of strength and intricacy, toughness and glamour that's just divine. Ogh, so fab! Well this sure was a departure for Michelle! She’s never been one to do a whole lot of print, but she went hard for it here. The pic doesn’t let us see if this stylized floral pattern is set on a top or a dress, but either way, it’s a surprise! The colors in this piece caught me off-guard as well: mustard, rich olive – these are not shades we usually see Michi gravitate toward. But they work really well with her skin tone and I’m always on board for when the ladies try new things, so I’m in for this look! – especially because a) this halter silhouette is amazeballs on her and b) she “took” my advice ;) and swapped her braids for this chic bun. A pair of her trademark bangles adds a hint of flash.
While the whole world has been obsessing over burgundy suede OTKs, Lana did her own trendsetting thing and went for navy suede ones. They have all the unexpectedness and luxurious feel of the burgundy, but with a cooler vibe, which works wonderfully with her denim topper. I love the interplay of casual denim with this sleek ivory bodycon, although I would be happier with a different silhouette. A cropped jacket would have a similar feel to this oversized, distressed coat, while being a touch more harmonious. Then again, it wouldn’t have the same quirk factor, so there is that to be considered ;). Her next offering –a similar twist on laidback luxury- works even better. Her pairing of cutoff denim shorts with a tank that announces that she is “Fierce”, caramel OTKs and an absolutely fabulous ivory faux fur coat benefits from a carelessly-filthy-rich rocker vibe (rocker anything is a growing trend for 2017). I can see a modern-day urban Stevie Nicks slaying a look like this. And I’m pretty sure Lana could sell out stadiums just as easily ;). Speaking of that whole burgundy OTK happening, Mandy has been one of WWE’s foremost proponents of said boots. We’ve seen her do them with jeans quite often, but here, she pairs them with a denim pencil skirt and reinforces the color with a gorgeous plaid button-down. I love the shades and texture in this outfit and would recreate it in a heartbeat, with one caveat: Mandy often chooses to push the sexy side of her looks to the edge. That works fantastically for WWE, but in the everyday world, it comes off closer to the trashtastic line than I would generally recommend. To make this look more user-friendly, stay with a just-above-the-knee pencil skirt; as long as you have two inches of skin between the top of your boot and the bottom of your skirt, the proportion will work. Alternatively, you could opt for knee-length denim, perhaps with a classy-height side slit to show off those glorious OTK’s a bit more ;). We haven’t had many looks from Natalya pop up on fashion radar lately, so this stunner is a welcome addition! It’s exactly what I’d expect from Natalya: current, classy and incredibly chic! Her sheer-inset midi sheath dress (by Elizabeth and James) has the effect of modernist art, with her curves as the canvas. She topped the dress with a ruffled biker jacket from Alexander McQueen, a magnificent piece that’s a crave-worthy combination of frills and attitude. Its complex aesthetic works brilliantly over the clean-lined minimalism of the dress. She finished the look with simple black leather Stuart Weitzman boots. A black monochrome palette united the ensemble, while Nattie injected a playful, vivacious vibe with her half up-do and candy pink lips. As promised, a closer look at Steph's outfit is at the far right. This pic really shows off how well it's put together!
I'm completely loving this outfit from Mandy as well! She pairs a white cropped turtleneck with blue jeans, gives it a touch of flash with her Hermes belt and then makes it totally winter appropriate with her faux fur vest. The lightness of this still-wintry color palette, as well as the casual glamour of the styling makes it an instant hit with me! Her make-up is soft and natural and creates a girl-next-door vibe and her high ponytail is super-cute! That's one of my favorite placements for a pony - it's polished, fun and sp pretty! Michelle may not be wrestling any more, but she's clearly kept abreast of fashion trends in a way that would be totally LayCool-approved! She pairs black leggings, which were a fave of hers throughout that era with a slouchy olive sweater, draped off of one shoulder for a sexy vibe. She added an of-the-moment choker to keep the look trendy and finished it with her Louis Vuitton Seduction boots that took the Divas' Fashion Universe by storm back in 2010 when she debuted them. They're proof now that a classic never goes out of style and the zippered details (which allow the boots to switch betwen ankle, knee and OTK height) add a distinctive edgy fierceness to this casually trendy look. The only thing on my wish list is that Michelle ease up on the braids a tad; they're pretty, but in this case look the tiniest bit harsh ..and she's been doing variations of them almost nonstop since April. Maria was also feeling the casual feels in this October snap, where she paired a simple black tee with gray distressed denim. I'm a fan of the unique color choice of her jeans; it makes a fun change-up! She layered a multi-striped shirt over tee for warmth and an unusual way to play with both color and proportion (love that!) and then topped the look with a black leather biker jacket. Finally, she added a big pop of color with red ankle boots! The whole theory of this outfit completely works for me. In practice, I might have leaned toward a solid red, red stripe or red plaid shirt to infuse the color throughout the outfit. But the basic principles work perfectly. (And PS, you could mellow out the drama a touch by going with black boots, if you wanted to create the look without the boldness of red footwear.) OK, so I have so many FashionHaps flying around in my life right now that things are getting a bit dicey in terms of what pics go where, so bear with me on this - I do have a better snap of Stephanie's outfit here and it will be forthcoming in the vey next post. Promise! In the meantime, suffice to say that it's a bell-sleeved top paired with a flared skirt with a side slit. We haven't sen styling like this much from Steph and I completely adore EVERYthing about this pairing. The bell sleeves are beautiful, on-trend and give a goddess-like vibe to this look, while the flared mini skirt bring elements of both power and femininity. I love the way the flared shape balances out the boxy top, defining her waist and creating a wonderful visual shape - just flawless! The only thing that puts a little hiccough in my thrillage is her choice of tan suede boots. They're a bit jarring, especially when I know she has a perfect pair of pointy-toed leather ones in black that she could have employed instead ;).
Maryse has begin to switch her look up from the bodysuit and OTKs which is awesome. There's no reason to get bored with fashion by doing too much of a good thing ;). This foray into different territory involved a red elbow-sleeved dress with a wonderful ballet neckline and a fun interplay of panelling in leather and knit. The tension between those two textures brings an attractive twist to this simple sheath. One caveat: I note that the leather seems to be challenging to design in and wants to pucker a bit, which would make me think that if you're buying a dress like and don't have Maryse's flawless figure, you'll want to be very careful about fit. Maryse finished the look with gooooooorgeous crossed-ankle-strap back leather pumps from Louboutin. Classic black pumps with a bit of a twist are always a welcome addition..to outfits, to closets, to gift boxes.. :) Red also looked right to Renee, as we saw her wear it twice in October. The first outfit paired a trapeze-style halter in a bohemian paisley print with black denim and so-hot-right-now burgundy OTKs. The burgundy top with the matching boots is a dynamite combo and I love the halter styling! It's super important with a flowy top like this to have skinny pants on the bottom, as Renee did, to create definition, so be aware of that when styling looks that include the trapeze silhouette. I'm an even bigger fan of her second look, a fabulous mix of casual and luxe which combines a red silk shirt with a leather moto jacket and black denim. Her leather choker gives this a nice au courant vibe. I'm envisioning this outfit being finished with flat leather ankle booties (or pointy toe pumps for a slightly more elevated look). This jumpsuit is one of my favorite recent looks from Sasha, as it starts to carry her Boss persona into her fashion, blending edginess with cool glam. The single-piece style is sleek and the stud accents give it that bit of attitude I've been hoping for from her. Her pointy black leather pumps finish the look with fierce chic. Her studded sunnies add just the right extra dose of over-the-top drama. Also, in my fashion travels, I've come across a few interesting whatsits I wanted to share:
1. (#1 & #3) For anyone still seeking Maryse-esque Rockstud-alikes at I-didn't-have-to-sell-my-firstborn prices: Ocie by Sam Edelman and Olyivatoo by J. Renee 2. (#4) Because killer crystal pumps are touch to find: the Chiave by Aldo..an approximate sim to the studded Louboutins worn by Natalya, Alicia and Dana at various times..oh, and Blake Lively. :) 3. (#2) For anyone still desperately seeking Stephanie's MK Berkely t-straps, there is a decent selection here. XOs! It seems to me that, if you have a love of fashion, you have a beast inside - a kind of style spirit animal (or animals) whose aura you tap into when you go to your fierce place. So what if, instead of using that spirit as inspiration, you let it out to play? What if you actually became the beast? This Halloween, we're going to explore exactly that through the Divas and KO's and the animal instincts they conjure up for us. We're going to seek the fierce in it's raw form - complete with fur and claws and blazing eyes! - and let it run wild for a night, with us inside instead of the other way around. The true uncharted territory, the real safari, the forest where these creatures roam is a place we can all travel to - if we dare! Come with us and seek the beast within!
