Brie and Nikki attended the Teen Choice Awards in mid-August sporting similar, but not the same, maxi slip dresses. I always love when they do this kind of look that coordinates, but also lets each of them reveal their individuality. Nikki’s nude dress is from Alice and Olivia. She added a wide dark choker and completed the look with pale nude heels. Despite the leg-lengthening effect of the nude, I think I might have preferred black strappy heels here to tie in with her necklace. Brie’s dress and black platform ankle strap heels are from Planet Blue. I love the steel gray shade of this piece! It has the sophistication of black without being black and it feels more unique. I also love the way she combined a black choker with a gold pendant for a layered jewelry look. It adds interest to the minimalist dress and a welcome hint of shine. The twins’ next event was at the Curve Expo, promoting BirdeeBee. Nikki paired a black tee with white split-leg pants. This is the 100% right away to do the split leg! By stopping at mid-calf, the split is intriguing without being ridiculous and it’s appropriate for a promotional event such as this. She finished the look with the Planet Blue sandals worn by Brie to the Kids’ Choice Awards. I often find the center-parted hairstyle harsh, but I really love the way it looks here on Nikki – sleek and fierce! Brie chose a black, wide-leg jumpsuit for the event. It’s not ground-breaking, but it is polished and professional. She wisely added a dose of drama with her studded sandals and the whole look is quietly chic. I don’t usually go wild over sunglasses, but these metallic-tipped cat-eye shades from Fendi that Nikki is wearing are just too cool not to call out! Add a red lip, red nails and red wine…what else does a fashionable girl need? :) Summer was channeling her inner Carmella in this Insta-snap with buddy Stella Kae. She paired a leopard print dress from Show Me Your Mumu with black combat boots. This whole look has an untamed, derriere-kicking attitude to it which is super fun! I’m a huge fan of her leather newsboy cap as well – it just ladles on extra attitude! She’s also selling me on that lip purse – something I would never dream of actually owning , but I love the kick of red it adds to this look. So, when are these two ladies starting a fashion blog? It was almost impossible to get a good full pic of this outfit Nikki wore while repping BirdieBee in early August, so I tried to cobble a couple together because the look is really fun! She paired an ivory high-low top with lace detailing that give it the look of lingerie with slim black pants. It’s a play on the boudoir-wear as day-wear trend that’s tailored enough to work. Nikki finished the look with black heels and carried a Louis Vuitton backpack, which is the only aspect of the look I am a bit “meh” about – a simple black bag would have been subtler and let the interesting clothing pairing have center stage. Later in the month, she was all in red while visiting the NY Fire Dept during SummerSlam week. The square-neck red jumpsuit featured ultra-wide flared legs with a slight high-low effect. Nikki accented this totally-70’s piece with platform studded heels. While big platforms have come to feel a bit over-blown to me, I like her use of them here – the massive flares on this jumpsuit balance the weight of the shoe design nicely. She added whimsical Americana vibes with her baseball cap and “fanny pack”-style bag – a silhouette I usually loathe for fashion situations (as opposed to practical ones). However, like her shoe choice, the piece works here, adding jaunty, functional light-heartedness to a statement outfit. The same whimsicality made an appearance in her next look, as well. Her blush off-the-shoulder Nicholas dress and Jimmy Choo heels are fancy and feminine – and the latter vibe is accentuated by her floral headpiece. But Nikki throws a curveball in with her bright yellow Taxi Clutch from Kate Spade. I wouldn’t immediately think to pair this jovial bag with such a formal dress, but I appreciate the fearless, daring fashion-spirit that prompted the combination! 2017 will probably go down as the year the sheer dress trend fully jumped the rails, with few celebs being able to resist the urge to try it. Nikki got in on the action with this Self-Portrait maxi which, outside of the visible brassiere (I won’t have my usual meltdown over it – you know my feelings by now ;)), I love. It’s delicate and beautiful, and the frothy lace is given gravity by being done in black. Nikki added an agreeable surprise to the bottom, completing the look with her bright yellow Aquazurra Gigi sandals. I love how they bring a big pop to the black! Black, sheer lace was a favorite of hers this summer – she paired a bodysuit in the fabric with gray wide-leg sweatpants for a meet-and-greet during SummerSlam. Although she elevated the look by completing it with silver pumps, there’s a vast difference in formality levels between these two pieces, especially with the lingerie-esque styling of the bodysuit, that makes the outfit feel somewhat disjointed. A wide-leg pant –even a knit- done without the tie-waist and sweatpant-style waistband – would have been a few degrees closer in formality and worked wonderfully. Nikki’s next look also involved sheer fabric, this time a ruffle-embellished top from Faith Connexion which she paired with light-wash Frame denim and Stuart Weitzman suede OTK boots. I love how the ruffle obscures her brassiere to a degree, softening the audacious vibe of that styling. This combination of frilly tops with workmanlike denim is one of my current obsessions, as is the combination of blue denim with black everything else, so this look is a smash hit in my book! I also love the injection of attitude from the chain-detail bag. Her next outfit explores the same color combination from a different perspective: this time her black top is a minimalist halter-neck plunge-front piece, while the blue denim is done as a distressed mini skirt. Tan combat boots (x Chloe) complete the look, while a scarlet lip adds a pop of color. The two looks have a totally different effect, despite the similar palette: one expresses Nikki’s chic and trendy side, the other all about being fierce and sexy. And both are totally true to Nikki – I love that! Next up is an ensemble she wore while visiting the St. Regis in NY which hearkens back to the feel of the Faith Connexion/Frame look, albeit with more drama. Her confection of a blouse is from Zimmerman, a brand which excels at this type of piece. She paired it with a leather mini skirt and the same Weitzman OTK’s. Leather and lace is a classic pairing that always carries a punch due to the textural contrast and this is a flawless execution of the concept! Nikki’s Louis Vuitton bag is an example of the brand’s subtler side and a perfect, minimalist choice to accent this look. I love how the blush tone echoes her blouse. Sasha attended the WWE 2K17 kick-off party in this black bandage dress with slash detailing at the neckline. I love how the cutout pattern gives this dress an edgy quality. It’s another of those pieces that feels like a perfect fit with Sasha’s personality and it sets off her magenta hair flawlessly! I love that she added her “Legit” and “Boss” rings for a bit more flash an attitude. I am guessing she finished the look with black pumps, but sandal booties could work here as well. She also rang the bell at the NY Stock Exchange during SummerSlam week. For that event, she chose an ivory cape dress layered over a black bodysuit. This piece is an excellent choice as well – I love that she chose a more professional, but still solidly fashion-forward ensemble for this event. It sets off her hair just as well, but comes off more classy than edgy. I enjoy seeing her explore different vibes that still harmonize with her personal sense of fashion. Her trademark rings are again in evidence – it’s so cool how she can convey her character with just two pieces of jewelry! Black pumps echo the bodysuit and round out the ensemble.
Believe it or not (I hardly do!), this is the last August post! Onward to fall next!
