Inspiration Board: Nikki+Maria - Green Days

I love all kinds of colors, and certain ones catch my eye at certain times. In the last few weeks, both Nikki and Maria have worn an utterly stunning shade of emerald - the kind of bright, intense green that is now coming back to fashion's forefront, after a number of years away. This is a classic shade which I tend to associate with the 80's. Since that decade is making waves again, this shade looks fresh, especially when paired - as both these ladies have - with warm neutrals! Tan, beige, camel or copper each bring an earthy glow to the cool vibrancy of this jewel tone. Nikki's look showcases one of my favorite things - making a rain day (or farm visit) more fun by wearing an elegant, dressy piece, in her case this gorgeous corset. Think of something silk, ruffled or embellished - more feminine and formal than you might immediately reach for. Pair it with laidback black leggings and rainboots. Nikki's have caramel within the plaid accent, but boots that are entirely caramel (or any pale to medium brown shade) will create the same effect. Top it off with a warm cardigan (if the temp requires) and a classic trench. Feel free to pop the whole ensemble with a bright umbrella :). Maria's look has the same casual/formal interplay, but instead of a dressy top and functional shoes, she's done a casual tee paired with heels in a fun metallic copper tone. To get this look, grab your favorite green top -anything from a tee to a tunic to a button-down. Match it with slim jeans in a medium or light wash (distressed is fine). Add a half-tuck like Maria, or a belt to a longer piece (go ahead and pull extra fabric above the belt to create a blouson look, if that floats your ducks :)). Finish with heels in any warm neutral. Spice up the styling by adding a touch of leopard print: a hat, a scarf, a bag or even a wide cuff. If you've gone with the belt option, that's a great place to let your wild (animal) side shine ;).
