I can’t believe 2017 is almost over! But, here we are and it’s time to reminisce and re-savor (prob not a word, but whatevs) the best, coolest, most fabulous looks that represented the major directions fashion took this year. Get comfy, style lovers! :)
This tv look from Alicia was one of the first to wow us this year. Her use of the duster coat was wonderfully prescient, as the styling blew up as a trend throughout the year. She gave the piece a sexy twist by layering it over a bodysuit and shorts. One of my favorite parts of the look was the cool, careless vibe she created by leaving her boots half-open and tying the laces at low-ankle height. Like her use of the duster, it became a significant style for the year. Foxy’s blend of ease, sensuality and fierceness made this look totally rock my universe at first sight and I’m loving it just as much right now. There’s a reason we call her Foxy Fierce around here!
2017 could definitely earn the title of the Year Of The Track Pant! The style broke out of obscurity with the rise of the athleisure trend, getting paired with everything from sweatshirts and bomber jackets to bodysuits. My favorite iteration among the Divas was this creative juxtaposition from Maria, which elevated the casual track pant via a pairing with a boxy lace tee. It’s a gorgeous blend of beauty and athleticism, casual and fierce at the same time. I can’t help but adore looks that create interesting contrasts and this one does that flawlessly, while making the sporty bottoms appropriate for events well beyond the gym. It highlighted the incoming boxy silhouette trend as well.
Florals have been having a major fashion moment over the past few seasons, showing up in everything from embroidery to prints to appliqué. The industry was strongly leaning toward darker versions of the classic adornment, with deep neutral or jewel tone backdrops. Maryse rocked the genre this spring with this black sheath, featuring burgundy, beige and powder blue florals. After adding a shot of touch attitude through one of my favorite methods – a classic leather jacket – she lightened the look by completing it with beige ankle booties in the trending ankle-bootie silhouette. The whole ensemble represents everything I love about Maryse’s style: on trend, dynamic, stunning and chic.
From florals in prints to florals in 3d appliqué: Brie’s gorgeous, garden-y dress from Self Portrait, a brand that has been having a tremendous run of late, represents a summery variation on the trend. Done in still-strong blush and ivory, with hints of black, it showcases the multi-dimensional qualities fashion has been enamored of lately and which have made the top of my crave-worthy list. This piece is joyous, artistically stunning and sensual in a subtle, modern way. Brie completed it with an of-the-moment ankle strap sandal in coordinating pale pink. The whole look is perfectly balance: feminine but not frilly, delicate but grounded, making it a standout of the year.
Jumpsuits have been a force in fashion throughout the past year and no one slayed one better than Mckenzie did this fall. This all-black piece touched on the bare-shoulders trend, while showcasing a sophisticated, flowing silhouette that was both wedding-appropriate and eye-catching. She accented it with luxurious metallic gold accessories, via her on-trend wide waist belt and heeled sandals, creating a dramatic but not overbearing statement. With her beautiful semi-formal half up-do, this look was classically polished in the most au courant way. Translation: fabulous from top to bottom.
And there you have the looks that showcased the best style of 2017! Where will fashion take us in 2018? Will maximalism continue its ascent? Will florals still be everywhere? Will the 70’s stay in our hearts or will the 80’s eclipse them? Will pink still be everyone’s color darling or will a new shade grab the spotlight? And how will all the answers shape our style choices? I have no clue (Santa never delivered my crystal ball…bummer ;))…but we’ll be here to cover it all!
So party away the end of this year, loves and then get set for more style amazingness straight ahead :)
