We're kicking off the 2016 FashionHaps with what feels like a throwback...#TBW? Lol...
First up...WOWZA...how about this look from Stephanie McMahon? After regaling us with suits most of the year, she pulled out all the stops for the new year, with this stunning feather-embellished sweater dress by Michael Kors (shown here, but sadly unavailable). The texture in this piece is fantasmic; it takes the classic LBD to new heights! The dress just FEELS like a party, with all that flowy movement and tiny hints of sparkle. She brings the fierce, as well, by finishing it off with suede OTK's. This is the way to say "Welcome, 2016!". Next..OMG I am SO incredibly excited because....I now get to cover Maria Kanellis-Bennett's fashion again!...omg ..omg ... can't even...*faints*. Maria and her husband, Mike Bennett, have recently signed with Impact Wrestling and that means... a LOT of Maria's fashion woot woot! It should be quite the ride and I can't wait! Her style has always been dramatic and glamorous, and she gives us a taste of it here, with her New Year's-celebration-ready fringed sequin sheath. It's like wearing a disco ball...a bit 70's glam, a bit Art Deco, a lot magnificent. I am loving 2016 already :) Welcome back, Maria! The throwback continues with this chic New Year's look from Barbie Blank. Often, cutouts can get overdone, until there's hardly any dress left, but these are subtle and add a lovely modern twist to and otherwise quite classic gown. What really makes this look pop, though, are her sophisticated black+gold ankle strap sandals. The shape is elegant and feminine and really elevates her gown. That super-pretty high bun doesn't hurt either ;). We rarely saw updo's from Barbie during her time with WWE, but it's such a great look for her! Lastly, a true throwback shot: this ivory set from Barbie's bridal shower back in Nov. I couldn't resist blathering about the gorgeous floaty layers of the skirt. The strong satin border grounds the transcendence just enough and helps tie the piece to the cropped, sequin top. This set really has everything: sparkle, grace, sheer, skin. It defines "modern princess".

Something about the Boss's set just feels a bit off to me and I've been working to try to define it. It may be a color thing - the magenta shade of her tank is a somewhat awkward mix with the rusts and log-cabin-y reds and her pretty coral+barn red floral hat. It could be a pattern thing; with her leopard skirt and flowered hat. It's definitely not a pose thing, as Sasha hits a bunch of cute ones that make it feel exactly like the camera just happened to catch her lounging about. It's also definitely not a sweater thing - I love her cozy marled grey knit piece! And how I wish we'd gotten to see her worth that fab fur-trimmed gray jacket. That piece? That's the Style Boss we know and love! Ditto those awesome western-tinged buckled booties! Yum! I'm all sniffles and mascara tears because there were certainly amazeball possibilities here! What we got is cute and a little crazy. And sometimes, a little crazy kills it. Just not this time. C'est la vie.
When we conceived of this type of shoot, Brie's was the first name that jumped to mind to be in it, so I was super excited to see how she styled it. Plaid was practically a given and she didn't disappoint with this fiery red lumberjack plaid, tied high and looking oh-so-cozy. She paired that with a denim skirt and lovely merlot knee socks. Her gray jodhpur boots are completely fab! My only quibble is that I'd prefer them in solid black for this look. I give Brie serious props for bringing in the third shade of red in her braided headband. The deep crimson ties the look together by blending the other two red hues. It's a very sophisticated use of color and it rocks! Lastly, Brie's poses are simple and appealing, making her set an enjoyable one. Summer paired a standout chunky mock-neck sweater with super-adorable navy gingham shorts. There's just something about wooly ivory knits in winter that I find entrancing and this sweater caught my eye immediately! This is also an interesting combination on the fashion front, as mock and turtlenecks are one of fashion's great loves at the moment, with their aura of the 70's, and gingham made a big splash on the runways last year. She finishes the look with gray socks and no shoes, which is quite cabin-appropriate. Her girl-next-door-at-home poses work really well in this environment. She doesn't try too hard and I love that! This is just the kind of shoot that requires that kind of laid-back approach and it's a blast to see her modifying her expressions and stances to fit the feel of the set. *pauses for 'our-girl's-all-growed-up' moment* *dabs eyes*. The Divas were celebrating their holidays in a cozy, rural establishment, by the looks of this shoot. One of the things that immediately made me smile when I saw this is that it bears a striking similarity to a shoot idea we had proposed last fall on Diva-Fierce.com (see below). Cool, huh? I love it when our ideas get utilized...even if it's only by happenstance :)
Renee's look is one of my favorites. Her textured, cropped sweater is so cute and feminine, and I love the combination of pink with gray. Her striped leggings keep things super-cozy, while she adds more warmth and texture with that completely awesome, furry scarf. I'm also a fan of her fun and functional shearling-lined ankle boots! I might have been tempted to go with black instead of camel, but the earth-tone works well. Her poses are all playful and relaxed, and the whole shoot gels beautifully! Let's kick off 2016 with some fashion inspiration! I always feel a certain letdown at this time of year: the parties are done, the holidays are behind us, resolutions have been made. Now it's about all the hard work of keeping them and getting through the gray months into spring. Having fun with fashion can really help out here. One of my "perks" is using bright color during the next eight weeks; it's such a great pick-me-up!
I've already raved about how much I love this look from Brie. It's a great holiday look, but it's also cozy and bright, making it a perfect winter style! I did two different iterations because, while Brie has done this as a semi-dressy style, it also lends itself to a more casual interpretation. There are plenty of nappy, heathered and otherwise textured see-through sweaters and tees available today and you can definitely do this look with one of them, for authentic Brie-styling. An alternative to that would be to use a crochet or open-weave sweater, which we've also been seeing tons of on the runways and beyond. The crochet has a definite boho-leaning, while the open-weave look is a bit sportier. The important thing here is the color: you want something eye-catching and vibrant, like this bright apple shade. Me being me, I might do this with sunshine yellow instead, but cobalt or Kelly green would be just as uplifting. Next item: your under-layer of choice. A crop top or bandeau is an option, as is a lace bralette or a cropped bustier. Choose a contrasting neutral to get that coquettish see-through effect. Brie paired hers with a white pencil skirt and an adorable fuzzy gray scarf. I've gone with a cabled gray scarf, as almost any strong texture will work here. You could dress this up easily by finishing it with white or silver pointy-toe pumps, but gray suede booties keep things more casual. For an even more casual vibe, switch up the skirt for slim gray denim (black could work too!) and black ankle boots with a chunky heel. Since the overall vibe of this version is already laid-back, there's less need to bring that out via the scarf, so you can have a bit more fun and go with a pretty plaid or smooth knit. Happy styling! Don't be in the doldrums...start out 2016 merry and bright :) Thank you to everyone who has visited, read, tweeted and been inspired by this blog. It has been a journey...all the way from a wild idea four years ago to a flourishing website today. Earlier this year, I considered paring it down and moving it, but found I preferred this blog-style format and ended up leaving it like this, with a facelift :). Starting a new year is always an exciting thing with a blog. Just as with life itself, you know there are areas you want to metamorphosize and new directions you want to head in, or at least prepare yourself for, while staying true to your heart. The heart of diva-fierce has always been wrestling fashion and we won't stray from that. I also hope to foray a bit farther into fashion, with more Inspiration Board posts and a few other fun things, as well as FashionHaps and Photoshoot Reviews. I'm excited for the possibilities this year has to offer and make just one wish for all of us: that we find the doors we need on the path to doing whatever both makes us happiest and makes the world better. And that we get it all done stylishly ;) ...ok, maybe that's two wishes.
Happy 2016, Everyone! XOs -Brie |
