One perk of Velvet having a bit more free time is that she is able to give us a veritable flood of new pics, available at her RatedV.net site. If you remember me mentioning Vel in her Calvins, here's the snap. For real, shove over Kate Moss, right? Can you not see that shot on an NYC billboard? Although, putting V on a billboard would probably be dangerous ..cause too many traffic accidents from distracted driving. Like insurance rates need to be any higher. So, maybe just go buy the pic at RatedV. Think of it as helping to keep the planet safe ;). While you're there, you can also check out this punk-rocker girl shot, which includes a classic denim vest topping a killer studded bra. That piece is so crazy cool I can't even! Vel pairs that same skirt with her referee top for a fighting shot, which she totally nails, facial expression and all! I love the extra pop of color form her hair and her deep blush lipshade. Lastly,s he does a bit of modernist-sexy, pairing a lace-up, azalea-toned-lace-embellished onesie with matching thigh-highs. Strappy satin peeptoes complete this look, as Vel shoes off her amazing legs while working a chair prop. So, def make sure y'all check all those out :)

The photoshoot drought is still on at Impact it seems, but tiny drop by tiny drop a few pics are starting to leak out. The company seems to be back to it's old fondness for releasing just one snap at a time, which is a bit of a bummer when one is trying to do a photoSHOOT review (note: shoot..we on the same page now, Impact?), but still, it's better than nothing :) #SilverLining.
Hot on the heels of her title shoot, we get a quick snippet from Jade, wearing a gear ensemble with a very unique color combo: daisy yellow and rich plum. Yellow is such a rare color in wrestling gear that I'm always thrilled to see one of the ladies take it on. It also looks like Jade is continuing with the pared-down patterning of her title shoot gear, which is very exciting! With fun, surprising colors set in straightforward, bold pattern her gear could have a ton of..well, ...impact :) (pun intended :D). I'm not exactly sure what the printed square scarf is intended to convey, but it adds an interesting dimension. It will take seeing how utilizes it to tell whether it rocks or less than rocks :). We also get a peek at a new ring outfit from Rebel, who has pulled out some very military style. I always love a woman who can wear a hat well, so that's a point in her favor. This jacket is also a really cool piece, with it's authentic shoulder detailing. She plays the commanding tone of those two pieces against very feminine shorts, crowned by a pink bow. She's resurrected the finger to teeth pose, an old sexy standard. This is quite a solid shot, with the style interplay between authority and sweetness being particularly interesting. Rebel's fashion sense is excellent; I wish Impact would let her turn it loose a bit more! If she were allowed to explore some of these themes less superficially and with a stronger fashion influence, I firmly believe she could create some stellar 'shoots. Maria also gets a mini shoot. Hers gets up close and personal with the gear in which she won the recent ladder match that earned her the title of KO's Commissioner. The idea of the entire KOs division in the hands of Maria definitely thrills me! And now, can we take a moment and talk about those shorts? Holy holy. That silhouette is cheeky indeed! Maria emblazoned it with stars, a fitting tribute to her First Ladyship, as it was obvi she was one pretty much from day one. I LOVE that she chose orange as her opening color: it's fiery and intense! Few divas dare to embrace sucha color, but Maria looks fantasmic in it! She adds touches of black via her crystal-speckled belt and fishnet stockings, which is just enough to ground that scalding hot main color. Ok, so maybe it's a little more like ..warm...off the press than hot since E! announced it a bit ago..BUT...if you haven't heard :): there will be a spin-off of Total Divas starting on E! in the fall. It will be called Total Bellas and will follow the day-to-days of Nikki and Brie, as well as Daniel Bryan and John Cena...and their attendant four-leggeds. Since the Twins rocked their time on Total Divas, I can't help but think this show will be equally amazeballs. And naturally, anything that provides more fashion - esp Bellas fashion ;)- for me to savor and discuss is a good good thing in my world! So, bring on the (Total) Bellas!
Edit: The series will premiere on Oct 5! Mon night is one of fashion's big events: The Met Gala! It's held in conjunction with the Met Costume Institute's Fashion exhibit and is always a place and time where new directions for fashion begin. Each year has a theme and attendees are encouraged to dress in accordance with it. Past themes have included "Punk", the work of Elsa Schiaparelli (the contemporary and rival of Coco Chanel), and "American Woman". Watching the red carpet is a great way to get an insight on fashion's mood and where it's going to turn it's head next! This year's theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion In The Age Of Technology. That kind of title makes me think of very industrial, space-age kind of pieces - a bit grunge, a hint of goth, and lots of dark, rich colors, but especially fabrics with shine, or holographic textures. I can also picture a nod to the futuristic 80's, with strong shoulder silhouettes and defined waists. Metal and hardware are part of my vision as well: chains, studs, buckles...all three :) The Divas and KOs have had a number of moments that incorporate these themes. Most recent was Lana's fabulous trench from WrestleMania, but there's also Michelle's infamous trash bag dress and Lita's chain mail bikini. Velvet's leather, buckle-embellished corset feels right, as does Maria's super-studded strappy top (a favorite among many Divas several years ago) and studded belt and Kelly's lame' maillot. What do you think...will "Fashion In The Age Of Technology" mean industrial-inspired fashion? Or will it be about complexity, utilizing sophisticated stitching and piecing techniques and intricate prints and patterns that can only be created via technological advances? Or will it be about fashion's role in this technological age -one where style is about the antidote to all the electronica that surrounds us, and shifts into a more restful, grounding, bohemian basics era? Speak out in the comments! :)
