During the other many WM events Gail ran into Barbie and Alicia as well. I reviewed Barbie's look previously here. Seeing this bag though, I will add that I wish she had chosen a more interesting piece, something with color or a cleaner, edgier style instead of this bulky, tufted affair. Foxy indulged her 70's casual-glam side with this (sadly sold out) Colorblock Plisse Maxi dress from BCBG Max Azria. Her chestnut suede bag adds to the earthy-luxe vibe perfectly, while her bold gold lariat necklace brought in her usual touch of off-beat uniqueness. I'm imagining a pair of coordinating chunky-heeled wedges to finish :). Christy was in attendance as well, wearing punk-tinged faded-gray skinny denim, topped with a mod-meets-vintage dotted sheer-yoked black shirt. She completed the look with sporty black high-top sneakers and added a hint of flash with her silver necklace. The simple color palette helped to harmonize a look that spanned a number of genres. Gail's ensemble started with a micro-crystal embellished asymmetrical halter top. She balanced its wide, swingy shape with slim, black shorts and strappy lace-up sandals.
If you ever told me I was going to be loving a look with fringe and suspenders, I would have suggested you start looking for your lost mind. But here I am, loving it. And it's all due to Foxy Fierce. I can't imagine anyone else pulling off this daring look that indeed combines suspender pants with a leather vest and black suede fringed OTKs. It sounds like it can't possibly work, like it ought to be a complete hot mess. But it doesn't. And I LOVE it. It's creative, and daring. It's risk-taking that Foxy pulls off like a boss! The monochrome palette works to tie everything together and the disparate textures brings visual interest over and above the instant impact of the envelope-pushing suspender styling. This is brilliant and fierce. Reason #1846845262 why I fangirl over Foxy.

Gail got to meet up with a number of her friends this spring and there was some serious fashion involved! Before we get to that, though, Eva was doing some fun fashion things, as well.
First, she's keeping her own NEM line trend-heavy with this pretty striped choker top. It melds both on-point stripes and the smoking hot, not-going-anywhere off-shoulder silhouette. I love the fresh, summery feel of the piece, which Eva enhanced by pairing it with beige denim. That color story always makes me think of sun-soaked beach promenades! In a related NEM note, the company has recently introduced active-wear! Primarily in black and white with futuristic sheer and satin-y contrasting panels, it has the same modern, confident vibe as the rest of the NEM line. So, def be sure you check that out :) Next, she received the opportunity to walk the runway for made-in-the-USA evening-wear brand Stello. The company launched its Sir Stello menswear line this spring and Eva modelled this black suit on the catwalk. Overall I really enjoy the way this piece was styled, with the wide leather corset belt (although I could have done without the dangling suspender straps) and the pants tucked in to Eva's lace-up booties. Even thought the clothes are masculine, the way they are accessorized and used highlights the feminine form and fluidity. The contrast feels surprising, without being tacky or aiming for shock value and I could 100% see this styling being used like off-runway. Gail met up with Christy and Brooke around Wrestlemania and the ladies three were looking fine! I need to just take a moment and rave over what an amazing job Brooke has done - her post-baby body is unbelievable! And this pretty ivory dress highlights every curve! I love her bold eyes and soft rose lip shade. And I reeeaaally wish I had gotten to see her shoes. Actually, that's true for all three ladies. Work on that for next time for me, huh, Lovelies? ;) j/k. I'm thrilled we got to see some fashion, any fashion, from them all actually. Christy paired a feminine and on-trend blush choker-cutout blouse with her usual dose of rocker edge via a metallic gold pencil skirt. I love how she always injects something unexpected and which feels very much "her" into a look! Gail looked classy and chic in a blakc satin dress with a gorgeous strapless silhouette and sweetheart neckline. A gold statement collar necklace ramped up her look. Is this #GirlSquadGoals or what? This look from Brandi is a flawless example of tempering the sweetness of a look without making it dark. The warm, light neutral counteracts the sugary vibe of the pastel pink flawlessly.( As an aside, you could use a light gray here to do something similar, with a slightly cooler color story. To recreate the look, start with your favorite cardi. Brandi used a round/jewel neck, which has a very polished, classic feel, but a v-neck will work nicely as well. Any sweet hue will work: sky blue, mint, pale banana, lilac - so pick your passion! If you wouldn't be caught anywhere, any time, for any reason in pastels, consider doing this outfit with ivory. The second element is a coordinating skirt. Matchy-matchy is 100% allowed here (really :)), but you can use a solid, similar hue (slightly lighter/slightly darker) of the same shade, a soft print or a simple pattern (polka dots, stripes) as well. Since Brandi wore this look in early spring, she topped it with a textured faux fur jacket, which looks amazing..but might be a tad toasty for 90 degree days. To make it warm-weather friendly, consider a trench coat, laidback blazer (think collarless or band collared silhouettes), or a twill jacket. Don't fear pieces with statement details like asymmetrical panels, ruffles or hardware details that add interest and drama . Alternatively, a classic suiting blazer in a slightly cropped length will give a chic, schoolgirl vibe to the styling. While Brandi went with a colored topper, a neutral shade is practical, accessible and conveys the theme equally well. I love the femme-tough vibe of Brandi's boots, but this styling also lends itself to culminations involving pointy pumps and flats.
Mandy did this wide-leg look back in late winter, so I've metamorphosized it for warmer weather - who need s a fur vest at 90 degrees, right? Although, maybe in an air conditioned office...:). Anyway, let's pretend the AC hasn't been cranked up to sub-zero Refrigerate-The-Humans temps and you want to dress in one or two layers instead of seventeen. The wide-leg trend is staying strong in fashion and it's definitely worth trying - also waaay more comfortable than skinny jeans :). The flowy wide-leg is a dramatic silhouette that can be either balanced, or accentuated, depending on your preference. Look for a pair that's tailored, with a higher or tapered-in waist (even if you're going to cover it). The right design assists the way this piece works and a cut that goes straight up from the hip can have a tendency to come off blocky. For a crisp polished interpretation, top this statement pant with a minimalist button-down blouse. Tuck it in and play up the waist with a black leather belt and pointy pumps. The look plays off the iconic color scheme and understated sophistication of the elements. For a chic, artsy vibe, skip the whole waist-focus and top the pants with an un-tucked cami. Almost any style that's not exceptionally casual will work (avoid un-embellished knits and form-fitting pieces). A simple silk variation, a floral print, a solid metallic, a ruffled/embroidered/crochet or lace-detailed piece. This whole outfit is about fluidity and movement, so you'll need to ground it a bit via your shoes. Reach for a structured chunky-heeled sandal with a 70's vibe or an of-the-moment pointy flat. For non-professional events, you can stop right there, but for offices and other less-casual environments, add a topper. Go haute couture with a sleeveless trench, modern boho with a linen duster, or quirky with a free-spirited kimono. Or, you can play up the waist with a look that's picking up steam as we speak: the wide belt/corset waist. This super-easy variation turns on your chosen belt, so play around with backdrops that accentuate it: dark neutrals for a bright or pale color, light ones for black or dark brown. Grab your favorite un-embellished, refined tee (no baseball tees, or ribbed-collar types; you're looking for something more finished). Tuck it out over your wide-leg pants. Add belt of choice. Finish with coordinating shoes - a colored on-trend mule/slide, a classy pointy pump, a structured neutral sandal. And boom! Done. (PS You can 100% add the belt over a peplum top). Oooooooor :), you can push the envelope a bit more and wear an actual corset or bustier over your top instead of a belt. How amazing is that look?! Happy styling, Fancies!
Charlotte went through a run of all-black outfits in March. Her first has a great vibe, including enough trend to be mod, enough classic to be chic. She paired a slightly cropped cutout-choker style top with leggings and topped it all with a classic biker jacket. I love how she went for knee-high leather boots here. They're less fierce than OTK's, but more classic. Because they're flats, the to-the-knee style feels like something less styled and more practical, which actually gives the look tougher, more streetwise vibe than the OTKs would, which I find kind of cool. One of the tremendous attributes of classic styles is that they can shift between looks and genres with ease, which is what keeps them chic for decades and makes them good investments.
She uses the boots again for her next look, this time matched with black denim and an interesting black top with a sheer shoulder detail. Ordinarily, I'm a huge fan of cap sleeves, even a micro-mini version, like these. One reason for that is that they accentuate the shoulders, which is fab when you're creating a visual hourglass. There's a caveat, though: if you have a broad-shouldered body type (by which I don't mean having large shoulders, but having shoulders which tend to be naturally wider than your hips), you want to avoid accentuating them still more, without balancing the ratio at your hip in some way. A peplum would achieve that balance, as would an A-line skirt, side ties on a bikini (if you have this body type and fall in love with a halter bikini top, keep this in mind :)). A high-waisted wide-leg pant could also do the trick if the cut was right. Or, you could use an oversize sweater that takes the whole hip-shoulder relationship right out of the equation by playing on proportion differently, as Char has with her last black look of this set. For this interview with the NY Daily News, she chose an off-the-shoulder sweater - another style which accentuates the shoulders - but done in a drape-y, boyfriend-esque silhouette, instead of a bodycon shape. With this kind of proportion on top, skinny jeans are the perfect accompaniment, creating a casually fierce vibe that's enhanced by suede OTK boots. This is how it's done, babes! Charlotte then does an about-face from all the black and gives is this sweet, spring-y floral maxi dress, with a flowy shape that has the effect of an A-line. While this piece could easily be dressed up with colored heels, I love how she keeps it a bit more relaxed with rose-gold thing sandals. As with many of her looks, a statement watch is the only jewellry and its boldness provides a nice counterpoint to the delicacy of her dress. You can see the makings of her glorious Wrestlemania gear in this ice-blue cape from Fastlane. Charlotte's color choices for her gear have been stellar and this one keeps the trend going. It's pristine and cool, with a hint of magic about it that's grounded by the black feather and clasp details. I'm so awed by her ability to reconcile all these dramatic, glamorous elements (sequins, crystals, feathers) into something that comes off intricate and beautiful, rather than gaudy! Props to her and Terry Andersen! I said there'd more Cathy, soooo: more Cathy!
First up is a styling that inevitably makes the fashionista in my brain jump up and down and clap: femme-meets-rocker. Cathy tops a gorgeous bodycon lace mini dress, done in black, with a leather moto jacket. I always ALWYS love the punch that this kind of genre contrast creates. The tough gets a dose of beauty and the femme gets a shot of edge. It's just yummy! Also fun is the way Cathy brings in a touch of beige via her bag. The black and beige pairing is an iconic color combo and with beige/nude/blush tones being the literally rage that they are right now, this was a fab way and time to do this pairing. She goes trendily chic with her look, choosing a navy dress in the scalding hot off-shoulder style. This is a minimalist version of the silhouette that foregoes any embellishment. Cathy finishes is it with black pointy pumps, a classy but unexciting choice that requires all the drama of this dress's neckline to keep the look from nudging into bland territory. I'd have loved to see her add one more special detail - fancy hair, a bright lip, statement earrings. One more in the dress pantheon: this lovely ivory mini that makes wonderful use of chiffon and lace. As per her usual, Cathy has kept the styling quite minimal here, but you could have a lot of fun with a piece like this, dressing it down with a biker jacket (as she did above), giving it a hint of bohemericana with a denim topper, or going 90's grunge-girl with black sneakers. We got a look at some of Cathy's more casual style in this shot from her visit to the Alamo. She noted on Instagram how hard she worked to get her shoes into this snap and I'm so glad she did! The bold embellishments on this Western-style ankle boots add just right touch of panache to her black monochrome combo. Of note: she re-uses the moto jacket from Look #1 in a much more laidback rendition, demonstrating how versatile a classic piece always is. Any time I get a chance to involve yellow in anything, I'm probably going to do so :). Therefore, it's no surprise that Emma's printed dress had me salivating over recreating some variations of it. It's my fashion philosophy that yellow goes with anything and everything, but if you're a bit more leery of the color (heeeyy..it's ok...you can come out of the farthest-possible-place-from-the-yellowness-in-the-closet now), blue is a great complementary shade to begin with for mixing. There's a subliminal sun-and-sky comfort level with the pairing that just makes it accessible and easy to play with. One option for doing this is the throw-and-go way by donning a printed dress a la Emma that contains said color combo. You don't have to do the yellow shoes (but you totally can if you want to :)). Go for full-on summer brightness by finishing the look with cobalt heels, or go with a bright bag instead. For neutrals on your feet, consider trendy white, classic navy (pulls out the blue in the print in subtler way) or the ubiquitous but still scalding hot nude tones. Similar principles apply if you're working with a skirt. Don't forget about yellow stripes or dots - breaking up the hue with this kind of print is a nice way to break into using the shade. Hint: if yellow on top feels like too much, go with blue or a classic neutral from within the print and add a yellow belt or wide bangle. You still get the sunshine-y effect of the color, but it's subtler. You don't need a ton of yellow to spark a look - a little goes a long way :). You can achieve something similar by doing yellow on the bottom via a skirt or colored denim...or wide-leg pants. That gives you aaaaaaalllll the attention-getting brilliancy without any worries about it clashing with your coloring. Along those lines, I will note that I find clean yellows (i.e., those created through being mixed with white, ivory or orange) are much easier and more forgiving to wear than the generally more common dusty/vintage-looking shades with brown or green as an undertone. (Olive-y yellows I find to be especially troublesome). Tip: the "clean" shades are usually brights, but can include pastels , for example, the color of butter. One last combo I'm a huge fan of is yellow with blue denim of any variation. It feels like a neutral so it can simplify pairings and styling choices, but still has that bedrock blue-yellow synergy. I hope this inspires you to try mixing blue and yellow sometime soon :) Happy styling!
