If you love Cathy's fashion (oo oo my hand's up! :)), you are in for a treat! We have a boatload of it to review for you, so buckle up, Lovelies!
We kick it off with this easy breezy texturally-contrasting combo that pairs a knit (and ever so slightly cropped) top with a leather mini. It's a classic Cathy match-up that would have been TV-appropriate with strappy ankle booties or pointy heels. Instead, though, Cathy chose to play up the sporty side of the look and finish it with sneakers. I love this take on the athleisure trend - it's polished without being fussy. We don't get to see her shoe choice for this LBD (little blue dress), but there's a lot to love all the same! The firlty pleats, the adorable and trendy off-shoulder silhouette and especially the COLOR! An intense electric blue like this always catches my attention. Not only is it a mesmerizing color, but it's one that looks wonderful with nearly every skin tone, including on Cathy's! We've seen her use sneakers to dress down a look, but they would be a smidgeon too informal with this dress. I'd love to see hr give a pair of flats a try though! Also on the list of colors I adore is this snappy coral shade Cathy uses in her next outfit. She pairs it with staple black (note: I love it paired with beige, also), but she keeps the look fresh by choosing shorts with fabulous lace detailing - so pretty! It brings out the femininity of the coral and makes this pairing much more interesting! Cathy keeps the rest of look chill with simple, straight hair and a coordinating lip shade. I'm loving this graphic tee and leather A-line skirt match-up too! Can Cathy do no wrong? :) The zipper accents on the skirt enhance the urban-hipster vibe of her tee. She dresses up the look nicely with pointy pumps. I could also see strappy ankle booties here. The only aspect of this styling I'm kind of meh about is her hair - this particular version of the pieced-hair-as-a-headband look just isn't as flattering on her as some other styles of seen. Oh well. I'll live :) It's hard to beat a lace dress for gorgeousness and this one is a classic, stunning rendition. A piece like this will be in style literally until the end of time. I'm a huge fan of the way the hem follows the pattern of the ace instead of being cut straight - it's so delicate and beautiful! Cathy wears the bright scarlet shade with confidence - I'm pretty sure there isn't a s single color I've seen her be unable to pull off. It's the classic standby black pointy pump for the finish.

More catch-ups, more stellar Brandi style, babes!
We're starting with two looks I totally adore! The first one I can 100% see myself wearing to work. Brandi throws a twist into the classic black and white pairing by going with steel gray pants. These look to be a textured fabric, like a corduroy, but it would work just as well with gray denim, or gray ponte. Brandi layers a black turtleneck on top and then tops it with a boxy ivory blazer, which she leaves open for an easy, unstudied vibe. The strong blazer nods at the 80's-tinged suiting trend, while the laidback polish of the combo feels very 'right now'. Tall black boots complete this casually fabulous ensemble. From grayscale to full color: Brandi's next look is a head-to-toe ice pink ensemble that gives me modern-day Audrey feels. She buttons up a pink cardi over her pencil skirt and then adds massive textural contrast with a faux fur jacket tossed over her shoulders. She adds additional texture and grounds the sweetness with soft tan suede ankle boots. I love the choice of a boot here, as it tempers the girly vibe. A coordinating classic tote rounds the look off. I love everything about this. And PS for those of you who absolutely refuse to do pink under any circumstances: any pastel can swapped in here: sky blue, mint, lilac, butter yellow. No matching fur jacket? Go with a soft neutral: ivory, beige, khaki, nude, soft tan. The next snap is from a photoshoot on which Brandi comments that she's had a concept for an editorial snap like this for a long while. It's a super-fun one, too! (And it makes me wonder: what if Impact gave Brandi the visual image/art direction position that Christy Hemme used to have? Hmmm :)) She ties a white blouse over high-waisted nude/blush shorts. Of course, you know my favorite part of this snap: those aaaaaaaaahmazing yellow pointy pumps! :) The kitchen-y background with it's dusty colors and curlers in her hair give this something of a modern-housewife vibe, which is quirky and cool. I mean, who wouldn't love finding Brandi in their kitchen?! Minus the curlers, this look makes a great casually refined summer look, with the pointy pumps elevating the laidback clothing. Brandi also resolved the mystery of the snake on her gears and, as it's something that's been on my need-to-know list, I'm sharing! The snake was a Garden-of-Eden/temptation reference to her WWE ring name, Eden. Once she explains it, it seems so simple right? Brandi has gone on the make the snake her own - as she says "improved [the gear] over time". I admit, I had trouble, at first, connecting Brandi to the image of the snake, but the tempting aspect definitely fits. When I researched the symbolism, though, I found the Chinese interpretations and it all came together. The Chinese zodiac views the snake personality as intelligent, fond of the finer things, savvy, confident, hard-working and possessing an intense heart under a collected exterior. Yep, that sounds a lot like the Brandi we love :) I love me some color as much as anybody, but certain days simply require chic, iconic black. If you're feeling Dark Mode coming on, look no further than Michelle for a bit of inspiration. This recent look is about as lightless as it gets: a black monochrome pairing of a cropped top, distressed denim and OTKs with a bomber on top. Black makes life easy and this look is mad simple to re-create. The one important rule with a monochrome outfit is to include some textural variation(s) to enhance the visual interest. If you're using a satin bomber (or any fabric with a sheen), do things Michelle's way and go for a knit top. Swap her OTKs for fierce ankle or mid-calf boots (hardware encouraged) to make the styling a little lighter for summer. If your bomber is a knit or similar matte finish, opt for an alternative texture underneath, like a 90's-tinged silk cami that plays on the lingerie-for-day trend. It has the added benefit of more coverage than the crop top if you're in an environment where ab-displays are frowned upon or your abs are feeling shy ;). The luxurious sheen of silk offers a tantalizing contrast to a soft knit, smooth twill, or fuzzy wool. Go with straight or skinny denim on the bottom, distressing optional. Contrast the femme cami and play up the bomber's sporty vibe by finishing the look with sneakers. Alternatively, take this combo in a more polished direction with a drapey button-down blouse. Any variant of silk will do: crepe de chine, charmeuse, georgette, or any fabric with a similar look. Go with high-waisted denim and blouson it or leave it un-tucked and flowing (bonus: the rise on your denim matters not). Pointy pumps enhance the easy sophistication, while the on-trend bomber creates an off-duty model vibe. Enhance that with a sleek-but-simple pony. And if you suddenly feel the need for a chain-handled cross-body or a quilted tote, I'm with your feels. Happy styling!
Soooo, since I was kind of so-so about this particular application of velvet for warm weather, I guess it begs the question: how would you do it, Brie? Well, for starters, I'd happily borrow Barbie's sugary combo of pale pink (or at least golden nude ;)) and light wash denim! Lately, fashion has been appropriating traditionally winter fabrics, material by material, and reinterpreting them for the warmer months. It started a couple years back with leather, then suede and, as of this year, velvet. Most winter fabrics are weighty types, intended to provide warmth. The newer iterations generally have less heft and more drape, but they still carry a presence that can be challenging for high temps and sultry days. The trick is not to go overboard with them. To that end, do your velvet in shots, not kegs: a velvet tee or cami tops denim nicely. I've re-envisioned Barbie's pairing with slightly darker denim for a slightly more tart composition and added a grounding neutral. Bone peep-toe booties fill this role with the cami, black pointy-toe flats with the tee. I also love the idea of a black cross-body bag to reiterate the splash of black in a carefree (and practical! :) ) way. If a top is still too much velvet for your taste, consider the femme drama of velvet sandals! Because the hint of color is subtler here than when it's a larger piece of your look, super-pale denim is totally acceptable. Go for an on-trend crisp white shirt above. I love the coquettishness of a seen-everywhere off-the-shoulder blouse (ruffles, eyelet, lace and other ladylike embellishments = totally acceptable, even encouraged :)). If you haven't embraced said trend yet (or never will :)), try an iconic button-down in oxford or broadcloth. It will give you a crisper, more pointed vibe than the blouse. Since velvet, with its luxurious feel and sheen-y finish, is still a formal fabric, keep the baubletry to a minimum for this casual styling - a slim lariat or narrow choker is the most you need.
If you are head-over-chunky-heels for Barbie's peep-toe OTK booties, you are in luck bigly. They are the Galle boot by Guess. They are done in both the black (as modeled by Barbie) and a lighter (i.e. perfect for summer) gray. Add a massive dose of fierce luxe to knit dresses, cotton a-line pieces, mini skirts and shorts all through summer and then keep on with denim or leggings right into the autumn :) The Galle can be had here at 6pm.com...and they won't even hurt your piggy bank too much - bonus! :)
OMG...I'm freaking! All the fierce feels, Fancies! ALL THEM! Remember the fantastic, talented, magnificent, totally fierce Kim? Well, she is BACK, babes! Guest posting for you...and for me in my time of catch-up :). Welcome back, Kim McFabulous, with much love! - Brie
Kim: With Extreme Rules taking place TONIGHT, we've been treated to a little themed photoshoot from a few of the Raw ladies. I know they say to keep the best for last, but I can't help it... I need to talk about Alexa Bliss first! In my eyes, she's the shining star of this shoot. Her outfit is without a doubt my favorite. I love how her sheer skull tights actually peak above her leather shorts and monokini-like bodysuit. Speaking of the bodysuit, that buckle detailing has me wow'd! Her accessories are minimal, but when you add the chain belt, black bracelets, and brass knuckles, you really don't need much else to complete such a bad ass look. But just for fun, let's throw in some props like a ladder, and a barbed-wire baseball bat! Alexa is the queen of facial expressions and we see that every week on Raw. Honestly, the shot of her with the bat over her shoulder and walking towards the camera is complete with the absolutely perfect resting #BlissFace. 5 Feet of Fury and oh so fierce! Emma also has a killer set of snaps, executing some top notch poses on a staircase and coming out of a chained up storage room. Emma's outfit consists of tons of different fabrics and textures. We've got mesh, metallic, leather... It seems like a lot but it works so well. I love the pop of red in her top, it's a brighter shade but it goes stunningly with her darker red lip. Now, normally I feel like less is more, and would have picked the chunky necklace or the big hoop earrings, but for this look I'm giving it the green look - Go big or go home, baby! If you're pretty sure you've seen this dress before, I don't blame you. There has been so much use of the sheer-meets-something effect by stars in recent years, it's easy to get blasé about the look. The lighting makes this piece from Barbie (for the Star Magazine red carpet) appear to be sequined, but it's actually laced used in a similar way to sequin-covering-sheer dresses that were ubiquitous from 2012-2014. As a fan of freshness, I applaud the update of the lace and, while I'm a little over the sheer trend as done this way, this whole look is flawlessly put-together. The nude sandals, the polished-but-not-exceptionally-fancy low bun: it's all seamlessly stellar. She went with white again for her Easter style and I love everything about this dress...until we get to the loose, crinkled mock-neck. Like, what the? If only the dress had stopped 3 inches lower! Her high bun would have been dangerously refined, but workable with a different neckline. With this one, well, I'll give it a pass because the neckline really can't be redeemed, at least from what I can see at this angle. As with her previous dress, I'm on board for the nude sandal pairing - it's a lovely look. It's safe, but safe is what you want to be for a traditional holiday like Easter. That being said, I could have totally gotten behind spiking this look with bright heels - lemon, aqua, or even a subtler statement like blush or metallic gold.
Next, we get a bevy of looks from Brandi, including dipping all the way back into February for this metallic printed dress from Blackcake Clothing. She grounded this piece nicely with black pointy-toe pumps - the right choice for late winter. Chunky-heeled sandals would do nicely for summer. A wide bracelet added a solid gleam, but Brandi really gave the look some flash with her super-fun bag: a tasseled, lightning-bolt-accented piece. I love the quirky impulse behind this choice! Next up is a foray into jewel tones with an amethyst sheath dress. Instead of the expected black, she pairs it with taupe pieces - suede OTKs and a moto jacket. The softer neutral brightens this deep hue nicely and gives it a more feminine vibe then a fierce black combo. From there, she gives us a jaw-dropper: what looks to be a sneak peek at a photoshoot (oh, I hope so!). She pairs a black mockneck bodysuit with gorgeous burgundy velvet OTKs (ssly, is it possible to get a phrase that sounds more luxurious than "burgundy velvet"?). The look gets a twist that reminds me of something Maryse would do - feminine and sexy floral lace stockings. I love the way the textures of the delicate lace and plush velvet play off the smooth knit of her bodysuit. And leaning-back pose is killer! Her fun side is again in evidence with this sunshine-y orange romper. I love love love bright colors for warm weather, so I'm thrilled by this choice :). Brandi keeps the bright vibe going by finishing the look with black booties featuring an on-trend sprinkling of stars. As with her lightning-bolt purse, I love the playful vibe of this styling! |
