So, yep, I was right - another round of catch-ups is totally required rn. Therefore: coming up...
Barbie delved into her casual side during a March visit to Nascar, pairing this dusty olive jumpsuit by Bebe with light beige Nike sneakers. This is a perfect example of dressing appropriately for the occasion - it's chill, trendy and sporty, but also comfortable and easy to walk in. Her side part and smooth locks give this look a bit of a 90's vibe and a nice touch of sleekness that balances the informality of the style nicely. She was back in heels for her next outift - a strappy LBD from Missguided that touches on the lingerie-as-daywear trend. She gave it a casually sultry vibe by letting an oversize jean jacket dangle off of one shoulder. I love the way the very laidback jacket makes dress more informal - imagine the piece jacket-less and finished with pointy pumps or ankle strap sandals. Instead, Barbie keeps things breezy and fierce with luxe suede peeptoe OTKs by Guess. Multiple layers of slim gold chains add a touch of quiet flash at her neck. This reminds me of a Guess ad campaign look. Oooo - can I nominate Barbie as the next Guess girl? :) Next up is a simple combo of a long-sleeved white tee and cutoff denim shorts in palest blue. So far, so basic. But she ramps up the volume dramatically with her shoes: the Schutz Karlyanna, a caged over-the-knee sandals that sports some serious attitude. One pair of fierce pink sunnies and boom! Girlfriend is good to go! This is a sterling reminder that the plainest of pairings can get a big shot of drama from seriously killer shoes. Reason #18765493 to have a couple of crave-worthy pairs in your closet (as if you needed another reason :)). She also treated us to a look at her cover for Next Big Thing magazine. One of my favorite aspects of mag 'shoots is that they let the ladies try out fashion avenues we wouldn't otherwise get to see them venture down. Can you imagine Barbie in a snake-print wrap dress under any other circumstances? It's def not her usual vibe, but Barbie has the body to rock high fashion (if you're reading in a wish there that she would do it more,...ummm yaaaaaaaas!). Even though I'm not a massive fan of snake print, this one is subtle and complex enough to be more artsy than snake-y, so I'm 100% on board with it. My favorite part is the satin detail at the cuffs and waistband. I love everything about this look: the floaty georgette fabric, the classic color scheme, the daring print, the dash of red at her lips, the high fashion feel. Slay my stylish heart, Queen Barbie! (Also: more please? :))

This recent look of Barbie's is daring as it stands, but is easily re-imagined in a more demure way that still maintains the fashion-foward vibe. It's the addition of a nude cami below that makes all the difference (you can play down the peekaboo aspect by layering white, gray, ivory or black below). Then, you can have at you with any manner of lace that floats your soap - a tank, a peplum top, a blouse. Especially that whole blouse thing! There are SO many gorgeous blouses out right now - absolute confections of pieces that a get a modern update and informal twist when paired with skinny jeans. Don't just stop at lace pieces either; consider eyelet, crochet or broderie anglaise, ruffled or embroidered/embellished pieces and combinations of the above. Finish the look with ankle strap sandals, as Barbie has (feel free to cuff or roll full-length denim to a shorter length to show off the shoe more) for a flirty vibe or add some extra edge with fierce pointy-toe pumps. The coup de grace of the look is the pop of color from a bright bag. Get your Nikki vibe on by choosing and iconic red, go Barbie with neon rose or be daringly summertime-ready with bright turquoise, lime or lavender (or yellow, of course :)). I you don't happen to have a bright bag atm, no prob - add your brights via your shoes, or jewels: statement earrings, a bold bracelet (or pile of them), a go-big-or-go-home ring. If you're tucking your blouse in, a bright belt will work as well. For chilly nights, toss a trench coat, or blazer over blouses. A long cardi dangling off one shoulder makes a sexy alternative topper for cami's and tanks and similar shoulder-baring styles. I hope this inspires you to give a femme-meets-bright look a try sometime soon. Happy styling loves!
Divas and former divas were pulling out all the stops for WrestleMania Day. Not only did we see some great gear, we saw some great looks from participants and lookers-on alike as they arrived for the big day.
Barbie slayed a coord set comprised of a bandeau top and high-waisted pencil skirt. Snaps (which appear to be functional as well as decorative) on the latter allow the wearer to control the height of the side slit - which is a fabulous design idea. Barbie left hers high enough for drama, but without getting into questionable territory, which I approve of highly :). She finished the look with simple yet sexy black ankle strap sandals. I love the way these work here - there's some space between the hem of her skirt and the top of the ankle strap that keeps the proportion of the look just right, which is an important consideration for wearing strappy heels with midi hemlines. Her smooth, straight hair looks polished and refined. I'm a little less enthralled with her next piece, an ivory mini dress from Windsor Store. The super-high side slit takes a bit too much risk for my liking, even with the lace-up details. Her pairing of light neutrals, though, via her nude sandals, is a solid combination. Lana's glittering, poof-shouldered a-line mini is by Sherri Hill and Lana clearly had fun twirling about in it! The strong-shoulder is spot on-trend and, along with the multi-patterned sequins, makes this one BOLD dress - not that that's surprising from Lana. I like her choice to offset the formality with boots...just maybe not glistening silver boots :). It seems like an over-the-top choice that puts this look into space alien territory for me. I'd have grounded it more with black boots, or gray suede as a second choice, and a simpler bag as well. That being said, this is Lana and she loves to be brave with her fashion, which sometimes means we get results like this. If I had to choose, I'd rather her take risks that ocassionally don't pan out than be staid...so, carry on Lana Queen! Mandy surprised me by really dressing up for Wrestlemania Day. I'm not sure whether she had an additional event to attend, just felt like being fancy or felt that Wrestlemania was worthy of this level of formality..or all three. Either, I don't care - my surprise is a pleasant one. I love the minimalism and soft drape of this black gown. The cutouts and unusual neckline create an appealing geometry on her body, highlighting her curves without looking overblown. I would have preferred a sandal or lace-up bootie to these round toe pumps for a little extra va-voom, but I love her choice of a massive watch as her main accessory - it adds a contrasting dose of informality to her dress. Her long and loose hair is the perfect accompaniment. I can't help but love Alexa's sheer-striped dress (from Aqua x Bloomingdales. ID by fashionofthedivas.tumblr.com). It's a perfect blend of cute and couture that completely suits her. She has an incredible knack for choosing clothes that really fit and express her personality! She sparkles it up (of course!) with a pretty crystal statement necklace that adds just the right dose of shine to the texture of her dress. There was a ton of great fashion at Wrestlemania Axxess - three days worth!
Maryse kicks things off with a classy, neutral look, pairing a sleeveless mock-neck shell with a khaki mini pencil skirt. I love the cute tie-waist detail of her skirt that highlights her waist! She completed the look with her Valentino wedge sandals. The styling feels light, bright and fresh. Naomi went very casual for this event, going with a denim-on-denim combination of a classic jacket an cut-off shorts. She spiked the look with a bright lime tee emblazoned with her "Feel The Glow" logo. The laidback feel of this outfit is appealing and works well on Naomi, although I would have loved to see her add a touch more polish for this type of event. Even making a minor switch from shorts to full-length jeans would have upgraded the formality of the look. Becky styled a sporty, chill ensemble which showcased a mesh tee over blue denim. Black piping enhanced the athletic vibe. The mesh creates great texture that adds visual interest to this pared-down look, making it a great choice by Becky. The look has punch, even those the premise is uncomplicated. Black or white sneakers would complete this styling perfectly. Eve went for a printed sleeveless blouse, paired with toast-hued shorts. She topped the whole look with a sleeveless open jacket. The print adds complexity to this primarily neutral look, but it isn't my favorite choice. The floaty silhouette contrasts somewhat awkwardly with the sleeker jacket and shorts. She gets huge props for me for the trendy jacket. I'd have loved to see her go with a slimmer, bodycon shape underneath. She intelligently balances the look with leg-lengthening nude, suede pointy pumps. A number of Divas came out to Wrestlecon this year, with the result that we got to see some fantastic fashion! Barbie was fierce and trendy in her black monochrome look, which paired a lace bodysuit from Gooseberry Intimates with black skinny jeans (x J Brand) and simple but sexy ankle strap sandals. A slim gold choker added just a hint of shine to her look. My favorite part, though? Her hot pink fold-over clutch from YSL! I love the way that shock of color enlivens this all-black outfit. Noelle also wore black, choosing a plain, short-sleeved bodycon LBD. Her sneakers gave the piece a fun grunge/90's twist, while also being comfortable for a day-long affair like Wrestlecon. The informal feel of this dress, due to the rib knit and minimalist silhouette, lends itself perfectly to this kind of laidback combination. Like Barbie, Michelle went the bodysuit route. Her pick was an olive-beige version with super high-cut thighs, which showed above her lower waisted jeans, creating the effect of a cut-out. It also incorporated a lace-up detail at the sides. This look isn't my favorite of Michelle's- it's a tad blander than her usual laidback street-glam style; I'm missing a studded belt or a pile of crystal bangles. We don't get to see her shoes choice (sad face), but based on what I know of Michelle, I'd place good money on OTKs or fierce ankle booties. If you feel like you got left short of your glam fix, Maria's look should fix that for you. Her all-over sequined ivory gown was nothin' but glam! The deep-v silhouette brought plenty of sexiness too. Her long, loose curls look amazing! She chose to keep the outfit monochrome by finishing it with ivory platform heels. I feel like you have to be careful with platforms right now because they're a little of fashion's radar and they can feel somewhat passé, depending on how you pair them. This bold, but simple dress takes a lot of its vibe from the shoes, so I'd rather have seen Maria go with a pointy single-soled pump here, whether in ivory or nude. On a complete 180 spin from Maria's fancy styling is Nikki's dramatic, sporty look from the day after Wrestlecon. She paired black track pants with side stripes in her trademark white and red with a sheer tank that showed her brassiere. While I wouldn't suggest recreating this combo in non-Diva life, Nikki rocks the h**l out of it. Her red backwards baseball cap adds a bit more color and attitude and her wide choker punctuates the styling with tough, fearless trendiness.
OK...we are fiiiiiinally kicking off our reviews again and it all starts with the Hall Of Fame Fashion Review for the Alumni Divas! We're counting up the non-roster ladies who wowed us on the red carpet, with the top prize being a whole lot of fashion love from us ;)
I swear divas live in either denim or dresses..and leggings..maybe the occasional skirt, right? It's so rare that we get to see them rocking suit pants (outside of a select few) or chinos that I *had* to snag this opp to do a chino-utilizing Insp Board - especially because twill/chino/khaki is hot hot hot in fashion rn. It's one of those utilitarian fabrics that's always classic, but has particular moments when its star rises high and this is one of them. Barbie's look in this snap is unusual in another way too: her cardigan! How often do we seen divas in this iconic piece? The button cardi often has a sweet and prim vibe, but let's not forget how breezily sultry Marilyn made one look! Barbie's iteration, from a recent photoshoot has a similar easy femininity to it that's appealing - and super spring-worthy due to the colors. Her look pairs blush with a sun-washed olive shade. Me being me, I swung that over to yellow for a candy-colored, romantic pairing - but def give the olive a go, if that's more your jam :). It's tempting to just throw a simple tee underneath (which can totes be done - just make sure you throw a little zing in there somewhere: a silk scarf knotted at your neck, statement earrings, noteworthy shoes (we'll get to that)). Fashion has been lately obsessed with gorgeous blouses - if you have one, throw it beneath your cardi for something different and fun. Pull the sleeves back a touch and let the blouse's cuffs show. This is especially fun if they have a bell shape or special detailing, like lace, scallops or ruffles, but if they're standard button-down cuffs, it's all the more reason to let them show; flip them backwards toward your shoulder and let them flow like wings at your wrists. If your cardi is hip height or below, go for slim or straight chinos. With hip height or higher, experiment with the au courant wide-leg styles. And now the best part :shooooooooes ;) Not that I love shoes too much or anything. Ok, maybe a little. Barbie adds a wonderful twist to her look by finishing it with floral heels that include both the shades (close colors are fine; matchy-matchy not required ;)). I'm 100% on board with the heel thing, but because this look is so laidback, you can def get away floral sneakers, if you've added a pair to collection :). If floral footwear just isn't in your life yet (or never will be :)), consider a color here ( a bright version of the hues you've used will work), or a different print. Nude/blush/beige shoes are an always do-able and classic option has well. Happy styling!
