With the cyclone of changes and growing pains that TNA has been going through recently, it's been a tad tricky to keep up with and evaluate the gear goings-on. A handful of ladies have still managed to impress us, though, despite the upheavals, which gives us the opportunity to present our 2017 edition of the Knockouts' Ring Gear Awards! Who are we placing where and why did they wow us? Well... #3: Alisha We've only gotten a quick glance or two at Alisha, but for a newbie, she's got it together! Often, we get to see some growing pains on the part of new additions as they upgrade their looks. Not Alisha - her gear has arrived fully sketched out and it is fab! She's a fan of strong colors, which she combines with neutrals and metallics in a trendy choker-cutout v-neck top paired with shorts. She adds sheer insets between the shoulder and bodice that bring excellent dimension and texture to the gear. Studs and metallic or neon embellishments add beauty and visual interest The fusion of color, multiple fabrics and textures is anchored by solid black trim. Her looks is polished and coordinated, which earns high marks in someone we haven't seen at the upper levels of wrestling for very long. #2: Laurel There's a straightforwardness to Laurel's gear that's super appealing. It's clear she has a solid sense of what works on her body and she's turning it into a signature look. It's nothing we haven't seen before: a push-up bra and kabooty shorts, topped with a bold belt, but she gets props for some awesome color combos. The aqua and white is clean and pretty, even if not especially daring, but the azalea-edged-with-bubblegum pink is on-trend, eye-catching and mad fun! The grape and red combo takes even more of a risk and completely succeeds. Her belt adds a finished quality to this simple gear that makes it feel more mature, while the crystal circle buckle not only adds a touch of glam, but acts a protean signature symbol. I'd love to see her add a colored design to her boots as well to carry the hue all the way through the look. #1: Brandi
I'm beginning to be concerned that I may need to stop giving Brandi awards - every time I do, she leaves whatever promotion she's in. If only she weren't so darn good at fashion, maybe I could! Oh well, guess I'll just have to roll with it ;). As with Laurel, Brandi has created a signature silhouette - a halter top, paired with medium-rise chevron-waisted shorts. It works perfectly as a simple canvas against which she can set the symbolic elements of the design. Those elements are what make her gear particularly special. More than just accents, they help to tell her character's story - that of a temptress and the Garden of Eden. She gets huge props for the concept behind the gear, as well as the execution. And the execution is plenty fantastic! She's added gorgeous colors to her original black and white iterations: a lighthearted neon pink, an on-trend dusty olive and a magnificent periwinkle blue. She brings glamour to the style with precisely-placed crystals that take this brilliantly-conceived gear over the top. (And once in awhile, she pays tribute to Gold Dust with an amazing gold-dotted set. More on that later :)).Congratulations to Brandi for taking the top of the podium at this year's Diva-Fierce.com Knockouts' Ring Gear Awards!
