Barbie was looking cool and fierce in this off-shoulder cropped top! She paired it with leather leggings for a nice textural contrast that upped the fierce quotient significantly. White pointed boots provide a sharp contrast and complete the look with a punch. It’s a perfect example of Barbie’s trademark sexy-chic style! I am wild over Cathy’s stunning choice for the Kids’ Choice awards – this coral dress is just gorgeous! I love the glorious color, the unique shape of the strapless neckline (the higher sides and low, slow scoop), the beautiful origami-like folds and the asymmetric hemline. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the piece is the substantial faille fabric (silk perhaps?), which gives the piece drama and presence. Everything about this is stunning. I wish she had done something a touch more intricate with her hair: a messy side braid or braided headband. I like the casualness of the long and loose style, but a little extra polish would have sealed the deal. Her nude strappy sandals keep the look light for spring, which was an excellent choice. I’d have loved to see that idea repeated with her bag. Overalls can be tricky to style in a non-farming vibe, but Brie rocks them here by layering a gray thermal underneath this unique pair. The denim piece eschews the classic square front and goes with a deep v instead which gives them a casual sophistication that works fabulously with the textured under-layer. Brie enhances the silhouette by leaving several buttons of the thermal undone, echoing the overall’s neckline. She reiterates the casually chic vibe by adding a massive silver statement necklace with handmade feel that’s perfect blend of bold, stylish and laidback. Suede mules or leather ankle booties would be my pick to round out this ensemble. Her neck outfit is just as fantastic: a classic pairing of an eggshell-white chunky sweater and blue denim. It’s the sweater that gives this look its pop: the puffed sleeves and whippy fringe make it a real statement piece! An intricately cabled or open-work piece would create a similar vibe. The blue jeans anchor the styling and keep it grounded. Brie rolled the slim-fit silhouette to echo the cropped-hem trend – something I applaud! I strongly prefer the versatility of rolling a full-length piece to being limited by the shorter inseam. While Brie looks comfy as can be, barefoot in bed with her book (ok, now I want to go do that!), for in-public moments, I would pair this look with white pumps or nude sandals. We get a second look at Barbie’s leather leggings as she pairs them with this deep-v, slit sleeved blouse. The flowy feel of this piece is quite different from the skin-tight crop top of her previous iteration, but it works just as well. The textural contrast has the same fierce effect, enhanced by her lace-up peep-toe ankle booties (wowza!). She highlighted her waist with a simple black leather belt from Gucci, accented with the label’s trademark double “G”. As with the first look, this one typifies the kind of effortless glamour that Barbie creates habitually. Carmella showed off a sheer bodysuit paired with blue skinny jeans and a white blazer in late March. I love this look from head to toe…except for the sheerness and visible brassiere. We see this type of look tried fairly often, but it’s tough to pull off with sophistication. I’d rather have seen her incorporate sensuality via a non-see-though silk camisole, or even a bandeau top. The boxy boyfriend blazer would have lent itself perfectly to that kind of interplay. Her pointy-toe white ankle boots provide the perfect, fierce exclamation point to finish the look. She gave us a rendition similar to my above description at an interview in Pittsburgh, opting for a sleek collared blouse and a suiting-style black blazer with on-trend strong-shoulders. This works flawlessly, looking polished and confident. She completed the look with black OTK boots. Her white ankle booties would also have worked well. She went full-on 80’s for her next outfit, pairing a checked crop top with black chinos and topping them with a daringly printed oversize bomber jacket. I love how overt and brassy this is – it’s a perfect modern rendition of that decade’s maximalism. It also looks aaaMAYzing, all the way from her massive sunnies to her pointy ankle booties (both also on-trend and oh so 80’s). Big hair, albeit done in a classy, right now way, completes the homage. This is the kind of ensemble that would probably look like it was waaay too much if you laid it out on your bed, but all together, it works! ‘Mella has the sassiness to carry it off, too – even to the point of her lounging pose in the golf cart. Nothing says “it girl” like this kind of ease with the accoutrement of fame and fortune :).
Lana attended the premiere of Netflix Game Over, Man! Wearing the Mokai Mini dress from Zhivago. There’s a ot of pattern and texture in this piece, but it’s united by the dark colors and comes off looking luxe and mysterious. The strong shoulders nod to the 80’s, while the the wide waist belt creates a gorgeous and powerful silhouette. I love Lana’s softly waved pony and sideswept bangs: they’re polished but not so formal that they overtake the dress. Her dark cherry lips echo the warm reds of her dress flawlessly. She completed the look with metallic graphite pumps, which provided a nice variation in texture. In bright flashbulb light, they seemed like a stark contrast, but worked well in ordinary lighting. I might have been tempted to go with a dark burgundy or mustard pump as an alternative.
