The Lady Superstars has the fierce out in full force for mid-July's ESPY awards. It's so much fun to see them have another red carpet opportunity to rock edgier looks! Black was definitely the color of the night. The divas showed juts how much variation is possible, though, within a single color. Maryse was all about the glam and the sexy in this sequin-fringed confection by Abyss by Abby (all IDs by fashionofthedivas.tumblr.com). The sheer overlay give this gown the effect of a skirt over a bodysuit, making it incredibly daring, while the glitter made it appropriately formal. Maryse paired it with subtler shoes: black strappy sandals that accented the gown beautifully, while usurping none of the focus from it. Summer chose a magnificent sheer and cutout graphic gown piece by Bao Tranchi, a designer currently making waves for her modern-art-meets-body approach to fashion. The fierce and forward-looking aesthetic combines the seductiveness of lingerie with bold, clean lines that work as everyday style. She has made pieces for Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Gigi Hadid, so Summer is in great company with her choice! I applaud her choice of simple stud earrings to accent this incredible dress. If this House of CB dress looks familiar to you, you're spot-on. Charlotte's choice for the awards show was this cutout bandage piece also worn by Maryse. Her shoes brought out yet another facet of this piece, one of daring chic, as she paired it with simple ankle strap sandals. A gold statement ring added a luxurious touch. Nikki has developed a trademark of taking massive fashion risks at major events, something perhaps to be expected from a lady whose key phrase is "Fearless" :). I looooove that she goes for looks 110%; it keeps fashion exciting ..and me on my toes! For the ESPYs, she went with a latex dress (!!), the Newmar by Syren. The bodycon silhouette hugs every curve and the shiny has a distinctly fetish-meets-femme fatale vibe. Nikki enhanced that with a minimalist Eddie Borgo choker with a chain detail. His pieces are fab; they always have a piercing, edgy aspect to them. She completed the look with thoroughly fierce studded ankle cuff sandals. I'm not sure how to feel about this look. The latex definitely throws me, but her other pieces are so amazing and the look holds together wonderfully. What do you think? Can you overlook the latex? Does it rock your world? From daring Nikki to refined and chic Brie we go: Bella 2.0 slays subtly in this black gown from Halston. The powerful gold metallic belt is echoed by the gold shoulder detail of this classic high-necked halter piece. This dress is heaven; I would wear it in a heartbeat. She completes it with a polished, pulled-back hairstyle which works flawlessly. We don't get much of a look at her shoes, unfortunately, but black looks to have been her color of choice. That would likely be my bent as well, though gold metallic heels could seduce me too ;) Finds Edit: A couple of sizes of this gown are available at Lord And Taylor, if you're craving one. We complete our ESPYs round-up with a newbie to FashionHaps: ring announcer Cathy Kelley, a lady I think we'll be seeing a lot more of, if I can judge by this choice. Her deep red mermaid-style bandage dress is from House Of CB. She pairs it with minimalist ankle strap sandals in black suede. I applaud her decision to go with red over black. As sophisticated as black invariably is, the red is gorgeous and helps her stand out. The dress is a lovely blend of modern and sexy and her shoes bring in a touch of classicism, making for a wonderful ensemble overall. Who can resist bit more Maryse? Not me. She was looking modern and fierce in this sheer printed shirt, matched with a laser-cut leather pencil skirt. The softness of the sheer fabric creates an attractive contrast with the stiff, smoothness of the leather. classic black pointy-toe pumps complete the look...along with a pair of oversized sunglasses...you know, for the days when you're kind of hoping the paparazzi won't know it's you. But only kind of. ;) Hot on the heels of the ESPYs came another awards show for the Bellas: the Kids Choice Awards. Brie looked glorious in this frilly lace dress by Self Portait. She paired it with nude peeptoe pumps for a light, bright, fresh-as-a-daisy look that suited by her and the tone of the show beautifully. Nikki went with a black tank dress (by Enza Costa) in a tea length. She added white platform wedge heels by Dior, which grounded the look, while keeping it casual. The pairing of a black outfit with a white shoe is less common than the reverse, which makes for an interesting twist. Tank dresses seem to be having a moment: Brandi also showed one off in a recent Instagram snap. The charcoal gray shade is a super-fun choice: you get the chic appeal of black, but a bit more lightheartedness. Brandi brought a joyful quality to the dress by pairing it with vibrant yellow heels. As I'm a fan of any excuse for wearing yellow, this is a combo I'm majorly on board with! (Of course, if yellow's not your thing, this could be done with almost any intense color :)). Lastly, we need to talk about Lana...or., specifically, Lana doing camo. She popped up on tv wearing her staple cropped jacket and pencil skirt look, but this time, it was done in the classic army print. As with Nikki in latex, I'm not quite sure how to react. Perhaps it's the idea of a camo "suit" that's bothering my brain, or perhaps it's the addition of the red bralette. I think I might be way more on board with this look if said bralette were olive..or chocolate..or tan..or sage. Her lace-up pumps are as hot as ever, but as with the bralette, I think a different color would have helped here. The black seems to have too high a contrast with the rest of look, especially considering the red and the busy-ness of the print. I do love the choker, though! I hope we get to see a second go-round with this outfit, with a couple of tweaks made. It has potential for sure.
