One fabulous thing about WrestleMania is that we get GEAR...so, all of us gearheads can sleep happy for a few days :). There was a lot more floating around Wm than the couple we got to see in the photoshoot WWE released, so let's break all that down, shall we? Alicia Fox's gear is awesome. Hands down. It's one of the simpler sets in terms of color, as she went with a black monochrome look. But that minimalist choice is a flawless choice to set against this complex, creative and mad cool design! It's a leather brassiere-style halter, but with multiple straps radiating down and outward, some flowing into bold shoulder pieces that create the effect of a cap sleeve. She added some fierce intrigue to this via a mesh underlayer that plays peekaboo beneath the brassiere and then turns into leather-trimmed sleeves. Wowza; this top is super HAWT! Leather shorts and knee boots, paired with leather knee pads) complete the look. The grunge-meets-Bad-Blood vibe is killer and I like the restraint Foxy showed in her choices. The one slight thing I might have liked would be a tiny bit of embellishment (I'm thinking a sprinkling of hardware), considering the importance of WrestleMania as an event. Overall, though, this gear is slammin'! I've been a fan of Paige's bustier+ shorts combo for a long time and she has rocked some jaw-dropping gear at WM. This year, though, felt kind of "meh". I'm not often a huge fan of camo and this gear did little to encourage me to reverse that opinion. The stud accents should have given it a big kick, but they get somewhat lost in the camo pattern (closer pic below). I think they might actually have stood out better against solid black fabric. I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade to the fishnets/knee socks/army boots too. They don't improve this look, which is a shame, because the right combo could and should. Oh well. Some gears slay and some gears just lay and we just gotta roll with it. Still love ya, Paige! Eva's crossed halter and shorts combo is essentially her trademark gear. The cool thing about this is the red-over-nude lace she chose as a fabric. It looks fab and it's cray sexy, as is her wont. It's a wonderful canvas for a gear. Since this is Wrestlemania, though, it's a perfect time to surprise and delight us with some kind of tweak or twist or curveball. I wish she had made an additional attempt to make this ensemble a bit more special. The same could be said for Brie, although it's more understandable in her case, since this was her final match. There's a practicality to looking good, without expending an insane amount of effort on something you won't wear for years...or ever again. And Brie did rock some serious fabulosity with her make-up. She and her teams went all out there; I couldn't resist including a close-up. How crave-worthy and glam is that eyeshadow?! I respect Brie's choice here; it was a smart play, even though we could possibly wish her last gear was something mesmerizing. This is a hallmark example of Bella style...and that's just how I want to remember Brie. Tamina traded in her trademark leather jacket for this pieced leather vest and paired it with leather-on-leather detail pants. This gear works better at certain angles than others; different pics do it much more justice. Fashion doesn't appear to be a great love of Tamina's, but this ensemble makes a nice step up from her usual attire, while maintaining the same strong attitude. I would have loved a slight futuristic nod via a bit more exaggerated hip silhouette - a slight flare/outward extension reprising that fab arrow shape at the front - which, btw, was a stellar idea and one I hope she explores further. I could even see her tipping it with hint of smooth metal to give it a dagger-esque feel. This is a very creditable set, however and works quite successfully. She took a big risk with her hairstyle, too, and while this is isn't my favorite of all I've seen (she's done some jaw-droppingly awesome ones), I really love that she went for it. Nice job, T! There is a lot going on in Naomi's gear and you probably know that's rarely something that appeals to me. We have leather pieces, straps, the scrolled belt, the bandanna print (which is a tricky thing to pull off in large quantities in and of itself). The whole thing is missing the cohesiveness I prefer. Her purple lip shade is also not my favorite choice; it's somewhat distracting. With so much going on below, a more conservative choice would have been much more attractive. Lana's head-turning gear benefitted from the effect of this magnificent, plum silk-lined train, which flowed behind her during her entrance and billowed as she ascended the ring steps. This choice was flawless - dramatic, breathtaking and with a quantity of movement we don't often see in ring gear. She may not yet have gold at her waist, but her place as fashion royalty has already been cemented! Sasha's actual gear (see below) was surprising to me, in that I thought she would pull out all the stops for this big event. What we have is a cute, though fairly standard, design in a somewhat disjointed color scheme. It's a solid ensemble...but this is WrestleMania! I'm holding out for savage :) And she did make that happen with her trench coat. She got it absolutely right in every detail! The luxurious suede/fur texture, the crystals, the wide belt design, the oversize collar: this trench is everything! It pushes the trend side of fashion, it evokes the streetwise glamour that is Sasha's trademark, it has attitude..and it's gorgeous! When she tweaks her gear to be on par with this kind of piece, I'm going to be speechless in the best possible way! Toppers were a huge story on the gear for this year's WrestleMania. Stephanie's cutaway leather tuxedo coat was one of the highlights! It put the super-special exclamation point on her fantastic bodysuit. There were so many amazing elements: the unique, bold buttons, the smoking hot cutatway design, the cross-shaped fastener, the spikes at the cuffs. This is just...YAAAAAAS in every possible way. I'm always open to new takes on style coming together in really fabulous ways and that's exactly what happened with Becky's gear. There are a lot of elements here, but they're unified by color (two coordinating statement shades) and three neutrals and a strong sense of design. The central mandalas make a wonderful focal point, giving her set a mythological warrior quality. At the same time, the bold striping brings modernity to the look. Smooth studs add just the right amount of flash. Despite the complexity of this gear, it's beautifully coordinated and makes an undeniable statement. It's a flawless example of how the right design can create harmony from a multitude of elements, allowing a gear to have a lot to stay but still be immediately comprehensible. I'm so thrilled to see this evolution in her gear style! It's really exciting because the look is very unique and intriguing and SO much fun to see when it's aesthetically cohesive like this. Brava! I've already raved about Charlotte's cape. Her gear is equally all I could ask for; it's literally flawless! This metallic azure shade is AAAAAAHmazing, practically hypnotic. The black piping grounds it just right amount. The silhouette is a classic halter style, with the added detail of a curving peak at the front, which is both powerfully shield-like and gracefully artisanal. Her shorts include the chevron waist I advocated waaaay back in the deeps of time (i.e. when she was still on NXT ;)), which makes me simply ecstatic. Finally, she's added crystal embellishment with an enviable competence: the entire ensemble is sprinkled with them, but they congregate at the front-center of the gear, drawing your eye there and creating a glorious order in this glittering universe of sparkle. The crystal flowers - first, the fully-on-bloom one on her bodice, echoed by the one on her shorts - which is yet different, due to the smaller size and radiating drops are breath-taking. This gear is champ-worthy, WrestleMania-worthy, crave-worthy..in a word: exquisite. I'm in awe!
I can't, however, expend all my awe on Charlotte, because Natalya took serous aim at the top of the gear podium with her ensemble. This glam-rock bodysuit embodies everything that is fabulous about that vibe. It's straight-up DARING fashion for something that you also have to be able to perform athletically in. The brassiere+pants combo is connected by sheer insets for a seductive peekaboo effect. It's held in place at the top solely by criss-crossing straps of crystal-bedecked satin. Like..OMG. Can you even the hotness?! Those straps wind about the rest of the gear, as if it's being drizzled in jewels, all set upon this darkly romantic backdrop. A supersize stud set at her neck creates the look of an uber-trendy choker, a subtle reminder that amid all this gothic glamour there lives a distinctly au courant fashionista. The statement is echoed by a second one, set at high-pendant height, which serves to reassert the strength of the first. Be-crystalled gloves complete this ensemble, putting the exclamation point on this modern glam-rock fairy tale. Taken as a whole, the look is alluringly, darkly divine. This is what WrestleMania should look like. #IAMNotWorthyBows So, you've read my ravings and rantings. Who are my Top 5...care to hazard a guess? And/or just read on ;) 5. Stephanie..for one of the sexiest, most surprising and madly successful style switch-ups ever 4. Becky...for making a risky look cohesive and compelling 3. Lana...for breaking new style ground beautifully 2. Charlotte...for sheer magnificence! 1. Natalya...because melding fashion, functionality and fabulosity can't be topped :)
