Maria’s inner beast? Oh that creature’s a sexy thang for sure! And what mythological beats was sexier than the sultry, come-hither sirens who lounged on sharp rocks at beach-side and lured sailors into wreckage with their songs? I’m sure many a man (and likely a number of women ;)) have been lured into dangerous territory by Maria. If you inner beast shares that talent for temptation, dress her up for Halloween in a ruffled skirt (or use a dark neutral skirt or pair of pants and add a sparkling net hip shawl), paired with a glittering top. Try a sequin bikini, bra top or cami, or go for something with feathers (the sirens of legend were part bird). You could also bring the winged concept in with a feathered headband or earrings. Alternatively, try a seashell crown and/or pendant. Stay with cool shades: blue-greens, blues and purples, accented with touches of sandy beige or taupe. Finish the look with (what else?) flip flops :) Sweet, hug-dispensing Bayley’s fierce beast would have to be a unicorn: tons of bright colors and an aura that absolutely everyone loves and is drawn to. Unicorns don’t seem especially fierce, but I bet that horn could do some damage if you angered one…kind of like Bayley in the ring. If you’re feeling the sparkly-equine spirit, go with rainbow-meets-metallic (or sparkle ;)). Choose a sequined crop top with rainbow leggings or a rainbow sports bra with shimmering slim pants. Add a horned headband or circlet. If want to go all the way, color your hair white for the night (or choose a banana-curled wig) and shimmering make-up. Complete the look with black chunky-heeled boots. The joyful, dancing dragonfly symbolizes adaptability (they are born in the water and then take to the air) and agility. They seem beautiful and harmless – which they are (they won’t sting people), unless you’re something they can make a meal of - literally. They’re voracious predators and chew through bugs by the dozen. Does that remind you of how Gail handles her challengers? The dragonfly seems to match her athletic, high-flying, not-easily-satiated inner beast quite well. If that sounds like you also, consider letting said beast take wing in metallic leggings in green, teal or blue, paired with a sheeny top. Sequins will do, but you can also use something with smooth shine, like a charmeuse blouse. After all, our inner beasts can be quite sophisticated! Add a pair of dragonfly wings (check items called “fairy wings” as well for a pair that works) in the above-mentioned shades or white iridescent. Finish with dark-oily pumps or sneakers, or silver metallic (you can DIY a pair with spray paint if you need to).
I hope you all enjoyed this piece! It's been a long time in the making. I actually had drafts for the idea as far back as last year, but could never quite figure out how to present it. While brainstorming for a title, I connected to the idea of Rowling's new book and the concept blossomed. The combination of Mandy as the golden gryphon d'or lion cemented everything and the process just rolled on from there. Hopefully, it gives you a chance to quest for your inner beast…and find some Halloween costume ideas too!
