Inspiration Board: Barbie - Sheer Summer

This pic is from lit one of my favorite 'shoots eeeeveeeeeer from Barbie/Kelly (and that's saying something!). It's so soft and summery and totally girl next door! And it's def a look I would wear :). Add to that, it's so classic that it's still fab and stylish years after the 'shoot came out. I'd call that iconic! And there's no better time for an iconic look than the 4th of July. So, consider a pairing like this for picnics, firework dates, concerts under the stars, parades ...or just some good ol' fashioned drinking and laughter ;).  Barbie paired denim shorts with a ruffle-accented blouse in a gorgeous shade of soft ivory.  I especially adore the warmth of the ivory against the cool blue of the denim (nude or blush shades would have a similar effect), but this could be done with bright white as well. Ruffled blouses have been everywhere lately, so if you own one, or can snag one at the Independence Day sales ;), feel free to rock it! I also looooove the idea of doing this look with a sheer blouse. Tuck a cami underneath for sultry chic; the play of sheer over solid creates a wonderful sense of dimension and interest within the outfit.  Tulle, georgette or cotton voile all lend themselves to this look. Alternatively, consider using super trendy crochet, done as a tee or even a light sweater. As with sheer fabrics, the artisanal texture plays beautifully and classically against the tough-casual vibe of the denim. Lastly, you could also do this look with an off-shoulder top, a 70's trend that's on every fashion blogger's radar right now. Showing the shoulders is subtly sexy..as well as thoroughly fabulous in a laidback, but still sophisticated, way. Finish the pairing with always-appropriate-for-summer espadrille wedges in canvas or a similar variant to keep the whole look light and lighthearted. Happy fashioning!
