One thing that really popped out about Charlotte's look in this shoot was her sophisticated use of color: blended blues, neutral denim, pops of purple and olive. Even though this outfit is casual, it still tells an intricate and creative color story. Casual does not have to mean looking like a closetless bum, Fiercers and Fiercettes! While I'm digging her olive duck boots hard, I realize not everybody has a pair of green boots hanging in their closet, so I tried to metamorphosize this palette into something more easily accessible. Or rather, two somethings because..fashion! The first is a riff on Char's look. This involves pairing distressed boyfriend-style denim with a classic sky blue or blue teal tee and tossing a flannel shirt over the top. This lovely flannel is from Madewell and may be exactly what Charlotte styled her look with (I'll update if I can confirm). (PS Madewell is rocking the flannel this year). The look gets finished off with hiking boots in a warm neutral and - this is where the olive comes in- a fringed scarf. A smattering of beads (this set is from Zappos) in neutrals and more olive (that olive shade is the key) ties the whole ensemble together. Look number two is more of a Paige-esque pairing: the denim gets switched up for slim olive chinos (or cargo pants). Instead of highlighting the green shade, the lilac scarf pulls out the purple tones of the flannel. If you're going that way, stay with a grayer shoe - a fierce ankle bootie or pointy toe pump - to keep the cool-colors theme. Alternatively, the whole look could be warmed up by a soft caramel scarf, matched with a neutral shoe in any warm tone from creamed coffee to deep chocolate. This is one of the reasons I love flannel: it's not only warm, it allows you to mix unusual brews of color for very chic and unique looks. You could do either of these ensembles with any flannel you own; just pull out one color and one neutral from the shades in the shirt and go from there :). Happy styling! #WorkTheFlannel :)
