After that terrible sweatshirt ordeal, I HAVE to get back to some real fashion. Must. This Inspiration Board was inspired by a combo of things, including a post about using jewel tones for holiday style via the fabulous Wendy's Lookbook (more on that soon on my Favorite Things page) and revisiting Barbie's jewel tone dress for the Silver Snaps post. Luxurious, deep jewel tones make an exquisite choice for the holidays and a huge twist on the traditional reds and neutrals. The richness of the colors provides depth and formality and blending several curated colors is invariably chic. Start with a simple dress in a deep hue: royal purple, navy, pine or emerald green. Any fabric with a slight sheen will elevate this look even more. Any silhouette, from body-con to fit-and-flare will work. Then add accessories in dark hues: teal, mustard, burgundy. Playing with textures (suede, velvet, faux fur) is super sophisticated, so definitely dare to do that! Pay attention to the neckline when accessorizing; this DSquared dress's wide, squared-out shape lends itself to going bare, but a classic v or crewneck could leave the options of a lariat or choker open. The coup de grace is the coat. A short jacket like this, that stops at the waist, is one warm option that makes a statement, but this look would work equally well with a longer (equal to the length of the dress) coat in a minimalistic silhouette, classic fabric (looking at you, wool) and neutral color: ivory, gray, black, beige.
