Where I live, it is feeling very much like spring rn :) Yiippeee. I'm not sure how long we'll keep this gorgeous weather - we usually get a tease about this time of year and then go back to cooler temps or rain for another month. Consequently, I try to take advantage of the sun and warmth while I've got it. It's also a great time to give myself from a reprieve from winter looks and do something with bright, happy COLOR...and possibly some bare ankles ;). I looove Lana's classic white polo with its bold, black piping, but the polo is one of those pieces that lends itself flawlessly to color. Pretty much any shade you can imagine is out there somewhere; just pick your fave(s) :). Despite it's sporty beginnings (trivia: the polo shirt was actually designed by French tennis champion Rene Lacoste and used for tennis before being adopted by polo players), the polo has something of a prep connotation. I rebel at it's being relegated to a single genre; it's too wonderful a design - comfortable, sexy or demure (depending on many buttons you leave undone ;), a touch formal (that collared thing) and pulled-together all at once. Lana updated it by matching it with a sexy pencil skirt and killer heels. I've envisioned embracing the polo's tennis heritage by pairing it with a pleated A-line skirt. I love this combo of lilac and khaki; it's super fresh and just shouts "spring". For a casual look, finish it with coordinating sneakers. Or, dress it up by pairing it with a simple pair of ankle strap sandals. Toss a bomber jacket over your shoulders when the afternoon gets a bit chilly. I also love the idea of modernizing the polo by mixing it with of-the-moment wide-leg pants. The flowy, casual vibe contrasts with the focused propriety of the collared polo for just-threw-this-on cool. Play up a little stylish attitude by topping it with a motorcycle jacket (leather, denim or knit all work) or a classic jean jacket. This is a perfect look to complete with pointy toe flats (an almond toe is a solid alternative). But you could also have a little fun and let your fearless fashionista side loose by going with your most beloved, free diva, party-on-your-feet pair of multi-hued stilettos. I've been drooling over Sophia Webster's joyous offerings! (PS check out heels.com 's multi-colored selection if you're in need of a pair at a wallet-friendly price point). Happy (Spring) styling!
