When I saw this insanely fun sunflower-printed top of Maria's, I couldn't resist the chance to do a look utilizing in my favorite shade: yellow! Because I adore the color, I went for full-on, straight-up yellow, but doing a print -as Maria has- is a great option if you want the bright, sunny effect, without any worry about pulling off the color. Just make sure the background shade is one you're happy in. The slight gathering at the sleeves of Maria's top, along with the flared silhouette of her pants is what gives me that 70's vibe. (And I want to state, for the record, that I LOVE that she did a fab, causal look that is free of leggings! I love them, but they are literally ubiquitous rn. Fashion can get too laidback for it's own good and I'm sky-high when someone resurrects casual style done with more tailored pieces). So, step one: select your pants - try a linen blend for a bit of texture, or finely-woven wool or silk blend for more drape. Polyester will give you a similar look to silk at a better price point, although silk is preferable. Flared denim or chinos will work, but the fabric will be a touch stiffer. Allay that by pairing it with a tucked-in drapey shirt: again, silk is your friend, but woven linen or broken-in cotton will do nicely. Alternatively, go for a solidly 70's-feeling crochet, embroidered or lace piece in a slightly cropped silhouette. Your top is less about whether it's a tee or a button-down and more about the color/print, shape and detailing. Pin-tucks or gathering details at the sleeves will enhance the soft, feminine shape and slightly vintage vibe. Play that up with earth-tone sandals, or go for a pop of color with bright butter flats. I love the addition of a wide-brimmed floppy hat and/or a mix of slim bracelets in various materials: metal, leather, cloth...and a charm or eight :). So, don't worry, #BeHappy...and bright...and stylish! ;)
