Ok, so when I first looked quickly at this shot of Maryse, my impression was that she was wearing a gray velvet maxi skirt and my fashion brain kind of went nuts. And then I realized -with a thud - that it was ....a blanket. And no, Maryse isn't introducing white-sale fashion to the WWE masses; she was trying to keep warm at a recent concert (more on that & her companion's look later ;)). But, I am never one to let a style fantasy go to waste, so let's delve into the magical world of Maryse-Believe, where we imagine that she actually did wear a gray velvet maxi skirt and totally dressed it down. I love love finding less formal ways to wear dressy maxis and topping on with a graphic tee like Maryse is wearing would completely fit the bill. A leather biker jacket adds physical warmth and a pinch of toughness to a luxe (and uber-trendy) fabric like velvet. Not that this look requires velvet! Pleated metallic chiffon, any jacquard or damask, lace, even taffeta would fit this pairing equally well. When it gets too cool for graphic tees - or when you're feeling too sophisticated for one ;)- consider topping this with a slim-fitting turtleneck. For a modern but less urban vibe, try a military jacket instead of the motorcycle styling. (Feel free to go with sherpa-lined suede if ya got it!). Or, forego the jacket altogether and do a chunky knit sweater on top. Each of these takes the formal, elegant feel of the maxi and plays against it with more casual textures and styles. I have no doubt Maryse would finish off such a look with thoroughly forward-thinking ankle or mid-calf boots: a pointy-toed lace-up done in unexpected patent leather, a luxe suede version with an edgy geometric heel..or studded - I know she has a pair of studded booties in that copious closet of hers (I remember raving over them wildly). Then again, a pair of chunky-heeled minimalsit black leather ones would work too I hope this inspires you to try a look Maryse mostly didn't quite do...except in my head ;). Happy styling, darlings!
