Inspiration Board: Renee - Simple Canvas

There's something to be said for simplicity. You can always start a great outfit via the right basics: black tee, classic leather jacket, blue jeans. Keep simplicity modern by shading one or two of the elements to what's hot now; use distressed denim or a slouchy boyfriend shape, or an asymmetrical zippered silhouette for your jacket. Renee has chosen the distressed denim route...feel free to copy ;). An assemblage of basics is the perfect background canvas to highlight one special piece. Again, follow Renee's lead and show off a knotted or draped scarf - go for texture in solid black, a black and white print (consider fun dots, skulls or a pop-art graphic), or a contrasting vivid color. Any piece with presence will work (skip the skinny scarves ...or layer them! :) ) If you're not a scarf girl, or in the scarf mood, try a favorite pendant, or an embellished belt (think studded, laser cut or braided). Finish with more black (ankle booties, brogue flats or pointy toe pumps) or a touch of color - I especially love a pump with a contrasting cap toe. Add baubletry with a tiny hint of color, or alternatively, use a bright lip and/or nail color to carry the shading throughout the outfit. Starting with a simple canvas makes putting together a stylish outfit oh so easy: put on the basics, add your special piece (or two) and BOOM! -you're good to go. Have fun keeping it simple!
