When the weather is nippy, sometimes you just feel like being cozy. And the tunic sweater is a staple of coziness if ever there was one! On the flip side, it's so much better to be stylish while you're being cozy, right? Like a total win-win! That can indeed be done with the ever-comfy tunic. The obvious way - especially in winter - is the addition of a scarf: pop of color, statement-making cables, casually chic positioning and bam: you're toasty and fab. But, there's more than one way to skin some fashion, Fancies...even without showing a ton of skin ;). Summer demonstrated one here by pairing her lofty sweater with unexpected checkered shorts. Take a cue from her. I wouldn't recommend the shorts so much ;), but popping a collared shirt in a fun fabric underneath a tunic can give it that touch of polish that takes it out of the comfy zone. Think pretty prints, strong stripes or a bright flannel. The collar and cuffs should peek out from under the tunic, giving just a flash of color and casual sophistication. Finish with classic blue denim and relaxed suede ankle booties. An often over-looked option, but one of my favorites, is to add a statement belt. Just like statement jewelry, a belt can completely make an outfit! Choose one with some standout detail: an extra-wide style, stud embellishments, a saturated color, tassel-ties or other unusual closure. Cinch it at your waist or let it dangle off your hips. Against a neutral palette, it will have all the focus. Add leggings and complete the look with mid-calf or knee-high boots. And, speaking of statement jewelry, you can put the exclamation point on a tunic with pieces from the jewel box, as well. The long line of a pendant echoes the tunic silhouette, making it a perfect choice. Add in a dash of trendiness by combining it with a simple choker. The subtlety of this option can handle a bit drama on the bottom portion of your look, so definitely consider tuxedo-striped slim pants or leather-paneled leggings. This is a also a flawless place to go with a non-neutral pant in a classic shade, like scarlet or cobalt. Finish things off with polished pointy toe footwear, pump or flat. I hope this inspires you to try a tunic soon. Happy styling!
