I've been ttly stoked about the new Jem and The Holograms movie since I first heard about it. The cartoon series was completely cool and while the movie seems like it will have a little different premise, what I'm most excited about is the crazy 80's fashion it's bringing back! Eighties fashion was all about young, wild, outrageous fashion - bright colors, funky shapes, edgy pieces...and did I mention bright colors? lol. What stands out most about it is that it was FUN. It was all about optimism and being happy and I think we could all use a big shot of happy...especially heading into winter, right? WWE has taken the op to give several Divas a Jem-themed shoot and they captured the feel of the era quite well! With Paige's punk leanings, she was born to be a Misfits girl and she rocks that look here. She takes her usual black on black look and glams it up big time to fit with the over-the-top 80's theme. Her OTK boots are ssly killer, especially with their tough lug sole. Her fishnets are wildly appropriate and that be-studded vest? Be still my freaking out self! Mad love for the vest. I'm also loving the look of her black cotton bra peeking out from beneath her leather bandeau. It reminds me of Taylor Swift's recent bra-peeking-from-beneath-couture look for Vogue Australia, but in a waaaaaay more punk interpretation! The last important detail of her look is how she transforms grunge-punk into glam punk via her make-up: she added silver metallic shadow to her eyes and skipped nude or dark lips for vibrant rose pink. Wow - simple changes, BIG difference! Can you just see Paige antagonizing sweet Summer, as she tries to lead the Holograms onstage? Me too :)
Naomi matches her black with pops of bright turquoise, which is a great choice. Turquoise was a super important color in the 80's. I wish she had added some touches of purple too :) That was a time when more was more, for sure! The swirling metallic pattern of her top is spot on flawless, as is the fringed leather mini skirt. Her wide belt is another excellent piece - it's overdone and fun and therefore just right :). Leopard pumps add a bit more attitude and the pointy toes were the look of the day then, as they are now. Her thigh-high add a dash of right-now and her statement jewelry keep the whole look rock-ready. This pose is one of my fave's, too! Summer's style lends itself to the Jem character and gets all the colors right: neon pink, purple, touches of bright robin's egg blue. I love the shape of her alter top and her ruffled skirt is both cute and cool. Her iridescent belt was an inspired touch! The leg wraps make this a bit more current, but they add the right feel: pushing the edge and "shh! don't tell your mother" style :-). Her bright pink leather pumps are a flawless finishing touch. Her free-flowing hair is awesome and she really works it in several of the poses. I wish she had amped up the volume even more- everything about the Jem and the Holograms' look was BIG :). The make-up star across her eye might make you think of Lady Gaga, but Jem cornered that market first and I'm thrilled to see Summer bringing that look back (as did Paige with her lightning bolt). We've seen Summer do a number of make-up looks, but she got the 'glam' memo here and accented her eyes with shimmering gold powder, while choosing bright fushia for her lips. Jem would approve!
