One thing that *always* gets me excited is when Divas take risks in photoshoots and push past boundaries. Anything that breaks new ground is high up on my list of loves. Photoshoots are the perfect forum to do this, because they're a method of communication in which the ladies are free from the conventional boundaries of tv and live events. That feeling of freedom is very much in evidence in Naomi’s latest set of snaps, where she explores the full realization of her Feel The Glow concept, something she has been slowing evolving for two years (can you imagine – two whole years?!) [See interview here]. I loved the sentiment of her “Feel The Glow” tees; it just felt like a cool concept – positive, confident and a little bit shiny – all good things! But this iteration takes the process one step further. Naomi seems to be imagining The Glow as a kind of visible cousin of The Force; it’s an internal energy that creates an electric aura. She’s brought the idea to life with glowing gear, along with light-emitting accessories, hair and make-up. Everything is alight! The blackout background highlights this dramatically, making the look a combination of 80’s holographic glam-rock visuals and 70’s disco sensibilities. It feels very now, very new and super fun! While the visual effect of this ‘shoot is straight up AAAAHHHMAZING, Nay-nay didn’t stop there. She used her poses and facials to convey not just the look of The Glow, but the feeling of The Glow and what it’s like to have that energy inside and surrounding you. She did an utterly fantastic job with this – her stances and expressions feel unencumbered and uplifted, as if she could achieve anything. The Glow is projected as a kind of personal power, wielded by a common-man superstar. It’s not often that a ‘shoot jumps off a screen like this and gives us such a dynamic and revolutionary visual aesthetic; it draws the observer into an alternate dimension of reality for just a moment – a kind of space age scenario where battle-tested self-assurance is made visible. You do not want to miss this set of snaps!
