WWE recently released a photo gallery showcasing some of the most dominant duos in sports entertainment. Naturally, they included my favorite pair: LayCool, and coincidentally also one of my favorites snaps of the devious ladies (I had nothing to do with this, I swear!). This fabulous wordy white tank paired with black shorts is from one of their series of Famous & Flawless ‘shoots. We just don’t get moments like this nowadays *nostalgic sigh*. I love what the ladies are doing now, but I miss the fashion-high of those days. Can’t lie. The ‘shoot was so well put together, with fantastic style (crystal-covered belts added a shot of glam to this chill look) and gorgeous, fierce poses. Even against the simple black backdrop, this set had such a powerful effect! Mickie is an established queen of the ring these days, but back when she debuted, she was best known as Trish Stratus’ biggest fan, eventually earning her place as Trish’s tag partner. With the significant skills of both ladies, they became a serious force in the Divas’ division in no time! Trish’s girl-next-door vibes perfectly matched Mickie’s Americana-hottie looks, making for sexy, effervescent photoshoots and in-ring moments. No list of killer queen duos would be complete without the Bella Twins. The Big Dub no doubt had a wealth of snaps to choose from with these ladies as they have done dozens of two-for-one ‘shoots during their careers. They went with one that focuses on the sporty side of the ladies fashion,w ith Brie channeling her 90’s grunge-theme “Brie Mode” tee and blue jeans, with a flannel short around her waist, while Nikki paired black track pants with her “Fearless” tank. Perhaps no team in WWE has ever matched the breadth of poses these two ladies have been able to explore in their photoshoots together. They have a comfort and confidence together which is nearly matchless and this snap reflects their best work. I think it might be a shade early to call Peyton Royce and Billie Kay “dominant”, let alone “iconic”, but they certainly are making some waves! The ladies have maintained very individual gear looks, despite their obvious in-ring coordination, with Billie favoring dark colors and Peyton preferring brights. Peyton’s gear also offers more complexity and a softer vibe, compared to the modernist minimalism of Billie’s. I like that the pair took time to do an actual photoshoot snap for us. Their pose works well and, while they have a lot of ground left to explore as a team, what I’ve seen so far is very promising. Becky and Charlotte’s friendship has been one of the most natural and appealing, despite – or pehaps because of – their ups and downs. They play so well off of each other and work so well in the ring! Their integral part in the Divas Revolution assures them a place in WWE history. While neither of these outfits are among my favorites form each of these ladies, I love the sincerity of their pose and interaction here. We’ve gotten to see them do one photoshoot together in the past (when they paid tribute to DX). Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see a few more in the future! Mickie is part of another team in the gallery through her partnership with Alexa. These two seem like an odd couple on paper: Mickie’s solid professionalism and Blissy’s horror-infused energy don’t immediately come to mind as a pairing. Then again, opposites often attract and they’ve made a habit out of having each other’s backs. Maybe Blissy can inspire Mickie to infuse some of her youthful, crazy ways into her current success and competence :) - I could def get behind that kind of happening. This snap showcases just how well their in-ring chemistry clicks. As with Peyton and Billie, I’m a little hesitant to call Mandy and Sonya “dominant” just yet, but their sable-meets-blonde partnership certainly makes for a intriguing partnership. They’ve got the color-coordination thing going for them, based on this snap :), and a lot more as well. I can see this pairing being very tough in future, given time to develop. For inspiration, they need look no further than the Divas of Destruction, aka Natalya and Beth. Despite my adoration of LayCool, it’s DoD that first comes to mind when I hear the term “dominant duo” applied to Divas. They ruled the division with an iron hand during their too-brief, shining partnership. While they went through several iterations of their look, this studded-ferocity-meets-vintage-pin-up styling (what I called their Maven-Vixen era) was easily my favorite. It was jaw-droppingly fierce and sensual at the same time, showcasing two women at the heights of their power. They slayed their editorials as easily as their competition on the ring. Good times, indeed.
