One of the WWE's first forays into doing photoshoots with a single theme, but multiple divas involved was the Diva Day Off series. The galleries gave us an insight into what the lady superstars do when they're not in the ring, or preparing for it and, rather than a lot of high fashion, we got to see a much more chill side of the gals, with lingerie, casual looks and workout gear. The series gave us peeks at Eva Marie doodling, Paige doing her nails and Charlotte shopping. Thanks to Kim's excavations, we have a pair of DDO collages to remember and get all nostalgic about: Rosa's and Alicia's. Rosa's day off was a hybrid of getting her sweat on, followed by some sexy lounging about and reading for a bit of R & R. Sounded like a fantastic day off then...and still does now! The standout part of the 'shoot for me was the stunning coral shade of her knit bodycon dress. Not only was the color gorgeous in its own right, it looked incredible on Rosa, creating a soft flush that highlighted her beauty perfectly. The sherbet shades of this section of her snaps were sweet and inviting, popping off the white sheets that served as the main backdrop and creating a peaceful, summer vibe. It was a very different look for a Rosa 'shoot - definitely unlike anything we'd seen previously from her and the whole thing came together in the most stunning way!
Like Rosa's 'shoot, Foxy's snaps showcased a side of her we hadn't seen previously: it marked the first time she made her artistic side a focal point in a photoshoot. I loved all the bright colors and crazy patterns in this set, especially with the super-simple ivory walls as the canvas for them. The plain background highlighted all the shades and prints, without ever making them seem too busy or distracting to the eye. That gave the joyous, funky vibe of the set cohesiveness and weight. Foxy paired a simple gray cropped tank with rainbow paint-splatter shorts which echoed the artistic theme of the snaps, as well as being mad fun! She added an effervescent pair of striped wedge peeptoe heels, which brought in an additional layer of color - and pattern! - which was further enhanced by the printed pillows. Foxy also broke out her glasses for us, throwing a lightheartedly studious spin into the snaps. The set succeeded fabulously, really letting Foxy's quirky, creative side shine.

I have been raving over Natalya's newest era of gear from its inception. This latest is one more iteration in a line-up of flawless choices: with the sultry glamour of leather, sheer and crystal, I can live without pink :). And then I got to thinking: how would I translate this concept into an outfit? I mean, w can't all just go walking around in glittering cat-suits, can we? (Well, outside of New Year's Eve and Halloween anyway :)) There is such a fusion of textures in these designs that the look is complex to recreate, even though it appears simple, due to the straightforward color harmony of black and white (sparkle :)). The easiest way to appropriate the styling is to start with a sheer-inset piece, either a long-sleeved top or bodysuit. Alternatively, begin with a black base layer and add sheer over it: a mesh-striped tee, a voile blouse, a transparent button-down. With sheer fabrics, whether full pieces or insets, black-over-black will give you textural definition, although you can heighten the contrast with beige, gray or ivory underneath instead. The layering also keeps you warm and cozy :). That whole modesty situation can also be addressed via the next part of this equation: a topper. For casual looks, bring in the leather with a classic biker jacket. For something a bit more formal, try a buttoned-up blazer with a high stance. With the latter, belting the jacket is a great way to incorporate the smooth leather aspect of Nattie's gear. Next up: crystals! Add a single bold statement necklace...or layer a couple :). Another method - and one of my faves - is to add a sparkling brooch to your belt (not through the leather - fasten it around the outside of a medium-width belt. (At around half an inch wide, depending on the thickness of the leather and the width of your pin, you should be able to close the brooch clasp without bending the pin arm). Although both of these looks are a bit subtler than Natalya's all-over crystal scrolls and criss-crosses, they capture the glamorous spirit of her styling in a way that translates well to street fashion: same elements, smidge less drama ;). Keep the Nattie-vibe going with black on the bottom via leggings, or a straight silhouette pant in denim, wool or cotton twill/chino. Finish the look off with a little more leather: ankle booties, black pointy pumps or classic flat riding boots.
When the weather is nippy, sometimes you just feel like being cozy. And the tunic sweater is a staple of coziness if ever there was one! On the flip side, it's so much better to be stylish while you're being cozy, right? Like a total win-win! That can indeed be done with the ever-comfy tunic. The obvious way - especially in winter - is the addition of a scarf: pop of color, statement-making cables, casually chic positioning and bam: you're toasty and fab. But, there's more than one way to skin some fashion, Fancies...even without showing a ton of skin ;). Summer demonstrated one here by pairing her lofty sweater with unexpected checkered shorts. Take a cue from her. I wouldn't recommend the shorts so much ;), but popping a collared shirt in a fun fabric underneath a tunic can give it that touch of polish that takes it out of the comfy zone. Think pretty prints, strong stripes or a bright flannel. The collar and cuffs should peek out from under the tunic, giving just a flash of color and casual sophistication. Finish with classic blue denim and relaxed suede ankle booties. An often over-looked option, but one of my favorites, is to add a statement belt. Just like statement jewelry, a belt can completely make an outfit! Choose one with some standout detail: an extra-wide style, stud embellishments, a saturated color, tassel-ties or other unusual closure. Cinch it at your waist or let it dangle off your hips. Against a neutral palette, it will have all the focus. Add leggings and complete the look with mid-calf or knee-high boots. And, speaking of statement jewelry, you can put the exclamation point on a tunic with pieces from the jewel box, as well. The long line of a pendant echoes the tunic silhouette, making it a perfect choice. Add in a dash of trendiness by combining it with a simple choker. The subtlety of this option can handle a bit drama on the bottom portion of your look, so definitely consider tuxedo-striped slim pants or leather-paneled leggings. This is a also a flawless place to go with a non-neutral pant in a classic shade, like scarlet or cobalt. Finish things off with polished pointy toe footwear, pump or flat. I hope this inspires you to try a tunic soon. Happy styling!
Among the many fabulous collages Kim dug out of obscurity for us is this stunning set from the Bellas' annual Bella Bowl - a tradition beloved by football fans and diva fans alike! The year represented here was one of my favorites - the navy and red combo looked amazing on Nikki (and, in a way, served as a precursor to the sporty ring gear she rocks these days!) and Brie's hair and make-up were spectacularly on point! I love how she worked in her trademark waist-tied plaid shirt too :). In honor of this collage, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at ALL the twin's looks from their six Bella Bowl 'shoots :) The ladies' style ranged from gridiron-worthy to made-for-the-front-row (how about their platform pumps and off-shoulder tee variation? I don't think football fandom has ever looked fiercer! Or sexier! Brie's low pigtails caught my heart both years that she wore them - she makes them look sooooo super-cute! Nikki's orange jersey was also a standout. I know it just happened to be the Bronco's shade, but that color was just so fab on her! We tend to see Nikki reach for red instead of orange, but I'd like to register a request for a gear in the latter hue some time! Of course, the very BEST part of all the Bella Bowl 'shoots are Nikki and Brie's poses! They always kill them. Always. And they utilize the competitive spirit to it's fullest, capturing pugilistic playfulness perfectly! Their mock-scrappiness and sisterly smack made me smile every single time. It's such a great side of the twins to see: vibrant, hot and lighthearted all at once. You don't get that combo in too many photoshoots and it always makes the Bella Bowls a special and memorable affair. Just how memorable were they to you? Can you match which year (1-6) belongs to which 'shoot? Give it a try and then get the answers below the break :)
The catching up continues! :) I'll be focusing on in-ring fashion for just a bit, but I'll get to everything else as well!
Becky has been nailing her in-ring looks lately with simple, but unexpected combinations. This tank included a mash-up of standard-size and exploded houndstooth in olive-gold metallic and black. She mixes her metals by pairing it with graphite shorts. By using unusual metallics, she keeps thie look fresh, as well as giving it a modern-fantasy tinge, which suits her well. The minimalism of her shorts also balances out the complexity of the print. The overall effect is pleasing and I really like the direction she's taken her gear. For her next iteration I'd love to see her add one more twist to her silhouette, such as a very simple partial cap-sleeve that acted as a shoulder-covering. It would enhance the fantasy-leaning, while also tapping in to the strong-shoulder trend, but most importantly would give that touch of distinction to the styling that would make it uniquely Becky's. It would be all she needed to take this gear to the upper echelons and it would be so much fun to see! Alexa's look here reprises the tried-and-true: black top, black zipper-embellished moto leggings. She swaps the black blazer for the more common leather jacket. I like this look, but I have to note that there's nothing surprising or engaging to it. It's a solid effort, though, and works perfectly for her character and the occasion. Carmella takes on camo for this in-ring moment. There's so much of it going on in this look - and her graphic tee doesn't help the effect by adding additional visual clutter. That leaves me not completely sold on the print, despite its current popularity. Perhaps because of that, I think Carmella succeeds better when she expands her trademark leopard with sporty elements like mesh, as in the clean, fierce, athleticism of her sports bra top in her next version of the look The simpler, but still tough, vibe pairs quite nicely with the camo, making the look much more cohesive. |
