Brie's got me back on my color kick again! :) Black, schmack, tan schman. Let's ditch the neutrals have FUN! :). Prints have been dominating fashion for the past few seasons in all kinds of iterations. While there are plenty of amazing prints with one or two colors, Brie's dress showcases a complex one, with a myriad of different hues worked in. The cataclysm of color creates a fabulous opportunity to play with the shading in a super sophisticated way: mixing, without matching. The classic way to work with print is to pull out a shade that's already in the print and highlight it via your accessories. But, if there are enough colors, you can also work in a shade that isn't, but looks like it is, in a kind of color trompe l'oeil ( "trahmp lay", French for "trick the eye"). The easiest way to visualize this idea is by using a color wheel, a painter's aid for understanding color. Refresher course: red, blue and yellow are primary colors, meaning they are original hues and not derived from combinations (unless those combo's already included them to begin with). Secondary colors are created from two primary colors (e.g., red and blue make purple). Tertiary hues are the ones between primary and secondary shades on the wheel. They're the ones of central importance here. By looking for a combo of one primary and one secondary color in your print, you can use the color between them on the wheel as your accent shade. For example, Brie has bright blue and pinky-purple violet in her print. Her shoes are a deep grape, which falls into the blue-violet category. Similarly, when your print contains lime (yellow-green) and mango (yellow-orange), you can use yellow shoes. When the print incorporates cobalt with emerald, you can use aqua. It's such a funky, chic way to play with colors! But, if all that seems like a llllllot of drama to you (and I ttly hear you because it's very bold look!), the mixy-not-matchy thing can be done with a single-color look as well. Say what? Oh yes. Again, the trick is combining a variety (at least three) different colors in the same family. Again, the color wheel can help with visualizing it. Start with your chosen color and then look at the wheel to find analogous shades (those on either side of it). The plum/violet cami is the anchor of the spectrum look above. The lilac pants and shoes go a tiny bit more blue-ish (and paler! Changing intensity is completely allowed :)), while the ice pink jacket is a touch redder (pink is red-violet mixed with white and sits on violet's right side on the wheel). Conversely, blue violet equates with lilac and sits on violet's left side. Staying within the family of analogous hues gives the look variation, but also harmony. I hope this inspires you to try some wild and crazy things with color sometime soon, loves! Happy styling :)

Hello, Brandi, killing it as usual! :) She attended a Cointreau soiree in August, along with Cody, wearing this simple black monochrome ensemble. She made it much more than simple, however, by adding this floral textured clutch! I love how the spike of formality and luxe elevates this look! Her azalea lips shade adds just the right whisper of color. We see a similar all-black combo from Eva Marie, with a very different vibe. Her slim pencil skirt if paired with a cropped cutout collar top and edgy black sandals. the whole vibe is tougher and brassier than Brandi's look, though equally modern. Don't you love how such similar elements can still create such incredibly different styles? (PS the top, skirt and aviators are all part of her NEM fashion line). I always have a special place in my fashionable heart for the ladies who can do it all. They turn their hand from look to look without even the slightest loss of competence. Lana is one of those. Here, she goes straight up rocker for us, in a look that's def one of my recent favs! She pairs daring black and white striped pants with a black top and a cropped leather jacket. The pants are bold, but everything else is subtle and it strikes precisely the right style balance! The city background enhances the look and the angle - Lana's blonde beauty in motion as she passes through the sight line - make this candid shot photoshoot-worthy. Alexa makes her presence felt again, this time catching our attention with this white cutout dress. The embellished crossed belt at the front is so pretty - and makes me smile: it seem Alexa always manages to get her touch of glam into a look...and I love that! Wedge pumps complete here look. I can ttly see black pointy toe pumps working as well. Charlotte went for a slip dress during her time in Sydney and I like her variation of the trend. Architectural black sandals finished the look. I've noticed Charlotte wearing this bar necklace quite often, and jewelry not overly much, so I am beginning to wonder if she prefers pieces with personal meaning. If that's isn't/weren't the case, I could see adding a choker to this look for a little more amperage.
One of the things that's made Carmella stand out among the new divas...ok, ok superstars :)...is the way she has created a very distinctive style for herself. I guess it's hard not to be noticed when you're wearing leather and leopard print ;). Are you feeling a bit ferocious? Ready to take on the big city, big challenges ...maybe a really big cup of coffee? Take a cue from Carmella and let the animal inside loose. Her go-to's are simple: a lot of black, a few drizzles of leopard, a good helping of leather and a few sprinkles of sheer and/or metallic. Within this palette, there can be a number of variations. As the seasons change, pairing shorts with a jacket is a great way to be a bit sexy, but still comfortable. Start with a black tee, something boxy or drapey; leave the form-fitting ones in the drawer for today. Pair it with black denim shorts - rips, tears, frays and distressing encouraged, but not required. Sling a black bomber over the top, one with a chill or sporty vibe, as opposed to some of the more luxe iterations that are currently available. Finish the look with athletic sneakers. Feel free to go for metallic gold, a la Carmella, if you possess a pair. Alternatively, straight up black will work just as well. Accessories are key to this look; they are where the all-important gold and leopard come in. Add a leopard belt (a leopard scarf tied at your waist is another option, but choose one in cotton or a similar casual fabric, as opposed to something more luxe, such as silk). A leopard necklace is another great option (the one here is from Guess and there are just a couple left at 6pm.com), but if you want to use one and haven't added leopard to your collection get, go with a bold gold chain or simple plate collar. If you're more an earring kind of girl, gold statement hoops are just the ticket. Shorts and bomber not your thing? No prob! Go with black skinny denim instead (biker details encouraged). Add a black tee - body-skimming works flawlessly here, helping to create a sleek, chic look. Next: leopard belt or scarf, same as above. Ditto on sneakers: black+athletic. Ooooor :), go with beige/camel/tan. It adds extra warmth to the look and echoes Carmella's gold without being quite so flashy. Oh, and looks fabulous. That too :). Have a little extra animalian fun by topping the look with a leopard baseball cap. Whether you decide to go for city-chic or city-cheek, unleashing a little beast can be a good good thing, loves ;) XOs!
The Bellas have been tearing it up with photoshoots lately! They've given us BTS snaps from the latest, one done for an un-named mag and one for for Pacific San Diego in support of the soon-to-debut Total Bellas series. For the first, Brie looks ultra chic in a black ruffled halter top, paired with an asymmetrical hemlined midi skirt. The look finishes with a simple pair of strappy sandals - a perfect foil to the varied and complex lines of the skirt and top. I love the modern-femme vibe of this look! Nikki wears a classic tea length sheath in an entrancing shade of mallard blue that matches Brie's skirt. Nikki's look is completed by black platform peeptoe pumps. The simplicity of Nikki's outfit contrasts nicely with Brie's, but the two are tied together by the color, which looks fantastic in the shot, where the two walk away from a helicopter, making me think of them as two very seductive spies ;). The Pacific San Diego 'shoot's first look involves two navy lace dresses. Nikki's McQ lace mini gets a modern twist from the exposed zipper, while Brie's Chloe shift is accented with lace at the edges, giving it a wonderful, soft elegance. Her look is completed by white strappy heels from Giuseppe Zanotti, while Nikki's finishes with pointy-toe platform pumps (the St. Laurent Janis). It's fun to see the super-trendy pointy toe pump done as a platform, instead of the more common single sole! We also get a peek at Brie's next combo- a flowy, feminine white blouse paired with black crochet shorts (both from Maje) . Those two pieces are as classic as it gets - and have a wonderful combination of textures, but Brie also throws a couple of cool spins into the styling via her black fedora, massive statement ring and...black pointy toe ankle booties (from Valentino). I always love when the ladies try the unexpected and this pairing has a fab modern-boho-quirky vibe. Nikki's next ensemble is a pale gray dress coat that she tosses over a black blouse from Maje and black leather shorts. As with Brie's look, the textural pairing is fantastic - flowy silk with smooth, structured leather and cozy wool (props to 'shoot stylist Kristi Brooks <3). We got just a hint of Look 3 from both ladies. Nikki's is a black slipdress with floral print added at the skirt for a femme-meets-fatale vibe. Minimal strappy sandals (The Ted Baker Rynne) again complete this pairing. Brie's outfit includes a white lace camisole from Maje, paired with Ted Baker Ruthee floral shorts and topped with a gorgeous lilac cape - that color is so amazing! We only seem to see it in bits and whispers in fashion (remember Mila Kunis' heavenly Elie Saab dress at the 2011 Oscars? *heart eyes*), but I go head-over-stilettos for it every time! I'm a massive fan of how Brie's daring plum suede ankle booties bring out the luscious fruitiness of the color. Sounds like I'm describing a fine wine. How fitting ;)...and also ...wine. What an excellent idea! If you're swooning over those boots, they're the Ridley from Rebecca Minkoff.
Nikki's next outfit is a monochromatic coord set from A.L.C. with a subtle pattern and fringe at the hem of the top. Those two details, along with the lovely color, make this set incredibly attractive. Nikki spikes it with a matching wide-brimmed hat and suede pointy-toe pumps (the Saviy from Ted Baker). These choices, along with the hue, texture and movement of the piece help monochrome be far from bland! Brie's set by Sandro is done in a stylized floral with a modern-retro vibe. I love the fitted-but-forgiving cut. I'm also a fan of the magnificent mix of reds, oxblood and cerulean - so luxe! But my favorite aspect of the look is her choice to pair it with fierce strappy suede heels (by Dior, the Petale) in plum. It's a flawless example of mixing, without matching. The reds, spiked with blue, create a purple-ish cast, so even though it's only alluded to in the print, the plum shade coordinates gloriously. It's a sophisticated and brilliant use of color! Check out the interview HERE for all the pics and info! If this magnificent statement necklace worn by Maryse caught your eye (how could it not? ;)), and you're freaking out over where to get it (not that I know anyone who did/is doing that) *surreptitiously puts room back in order*, it is the Horn Pendant Collar necklace from Sam Edelman. The clean, fearless flash of the gold makes the immediate first impression, but I also love the little details: the leather attachment on the pendant, the oval crystal - I can totally see why Maryse loved it! I am also very, deeply, terribly sad to have to say that it is...sold out. :'(. However, I've wrestled up a couple of get-the-look options that might work. The first one is on my wish list! :)

With Val's permission, I am super thrilled to be able to share this again with you! She has so many amazing thoughts and fashion philosophies; this was easily one of my favorite interviews EVER :). So without further ado, Diva-Fierce.com presents: the re-published edition of The SoCal Val Interview!
Sometimes the inspiration for an outfit can be as simple as a unique color story, a special pairing that feels daring and unique. I played around with daffodil yellow and seafoam green as a combo during the summer and just adored it. I had that same kind of thrill when I saw Summer's gorgeous flowy cabernet maxi dress set against a cobalt background...yum! Doesn't just saying the words "cabernet" and "cobalt" make you feel luxurious? ;) Red and blue is classic, of course, but the depth and intensity of these tones breathes new life into the pairing. The red is rich and dark, but not drab, while the blue is bright and clean - no dusty or washed-out shades here, please :). If you have a burgundy maxi (or midi or mini :)), try it Summer's way: with an updo and cranberry lips. Give the dress a pop with cobalt shoes and a statement necklace. Alternatively, add a cobalt scarf at your neck or waist. Cobalt earrings, along with an electric blue statement ring or belt, will do the trick too, if you are blue-shoe-less :) (In that case, finish the look with any classic neutral, or metallic). For cooler weather, consider a cobalt cardigan. Alternatively, toss a blue jacket over the top: a brilliant blue bomber, a cerulean blazer, an electric blue biker. Any of those jackets can also be over a wine tee, blouse or light sweater to do this combo sans dress. Echo the brighter blue of the jacket by choosing blue denim, or do burgundy pants. (Note: colored pants come and go as a look, but red and its variations are one color I advocate investing in, as it's a classic shade that never goes out of style). Finish with bright blue or navy shoes, or a metallic that matches the hardware of your jacket. If you're the proud owner of a cabernet jacket (you wise fashionista, you! ;)), try the same combos, but with the colors reversed. These two saturated, sumptuous colors are a fantastic pairing for transitioning into that Season Which Must Not Be Named (ok, you Autumn-Lovers: put down the pumpkin and back away from the Halloween costume ideas; fall doesn't officially start until 9/22 and I'm hell-no-won't-going until then). "Transitioning" is as much as you're going to get from me :). So, here's to transitioning and wearing cobalt and cabernet. I hope you give it a try soon! XOs
