Alicia's mini Instagram photoshoots let us get a broader view of her style than what we are limited to on WWE programming and for that, I am profoundly grateful! She is always experimenting, always pushing the envelope, always having fun with fashion and I adore her for it! It always thrills me to see what she's dreaming up :). She has a flair for casual style, as we have seen with some of her WWE photoshoots, and she's happy to showcase that for us as well. This look, an easy, slouchy combination of a v-neck tee and destroyed denim, is quite simple, but it still has that je ne se quoi, due to the just-right selection of elements. We don't get to see her shoe choice, which got my fashion brain pondering: how would Foxy complete this look? I can't help but feel that she would interject a shot of her trademark personality. So, when doing denim+tee a la Foxy, how might we style it? For starters, the basic elements: your fave slouchy tee and blue denim. Avoid form-fitting tees here. For that Foxy-esque touch, you need laidback attitude, so go with something broken in, oversized or boyfriend style. The v-neck is encouraged but not required. Stick with a neutral color - that will be important for what happens with accessories ;). There's a summery softness to Foxy's combo of blue denim with her gray top that I love. It's a muted background just made to set off some whimsicality. If you gravitate toward something a bit sharper, go with black denim. Be sure to have a black or gray casual jacket on hand for air conditioning or chilly nights, instead of the classic blue denim piece used above. Go for a slim silhouette, or roll looser fits to 2 inches above your ankle. Ok: tee, jeans, jacket = done. Now, for the fun part! A few short moments of stylish contemplation had me certain that Foxy would finish this look with a colorful shoe. For summer, she might have gone with the striped wedges she wore for her Diva Day Off 'shoot. Or, be-tasselled multi-colored sandals may have been the Lady Fierce's choice. Since we're in the "season" of transitional dressing, sandals are still do-able. Alternatively, consider a pump of many colors (and maybe some sequins! :) ...ok, who said that?) or, give one of fall's hottest trends a try and go for embroidered booties - how yummy are those?! Check your shoe closet for anything off the beaten path, anything you felt was a tad too wild to deal with on a daily basis: those gorgeous but insane embellished Western boots you bought because you loved them but have no clue how to wear (clue procured! :)) (note: if they're above high-ankle height, tuck your jeans into them instead of rolling), those unrealisitically-colored animal-print pumps that you thought were sooooooo cool when you first bought them years ago, madly floral sandals, rainbow-hued sneakers, iridescent peeptoe pumps you bought for your prom and never wore again...anything that's uncommon, extraordinary, attention-grabbing - however you do that, that's what you're looking for here. And the key is that because you're setting it against such a simple, casual, edited background, the crazy isn't crazy...it's just spicy. Or, crazy like a super-stylish Lady Fox ;)

McKenzie tried out a denim-on-denim look, variously known as a Canadian tuxedo and Texas tuxedo (seems like a lot of places claim the pairing! ;)). She noted on her IG that the look was inspired by Guess and I can see it! It would totally work as one of their campaign snaps. She pairs high-waisted blue denim shorts with a coordinating tied-high button-down that lets just a hint of brassiere peek through. For a real life look, I’d probably swap the bra for a bandeau, cropped tank or bustier, but for a Guess ad, I’ll let it slide ;). It’s also worth noting that denim-on-denim is remaining an important trend this fall.
This look from Renee strikes me as a quintessential example of her style: it’s offbeat, laidback and unexpected. She pairs a half-tucked sleeveless graphic tee with high-waisted leather pleated shorts and rounds off the ensemble with suede peeptoe booties. The textural play here – leather, suede, knit – is fantastic and the whole styling has this enviable urban-chic vibe that I’m wild over. Her half-updo adds a softer touch which works nicely. Sasha explored a similar vibe at the BET Experience as she, too, chose leather shorts to pair with a hanf-tucked top. The Boss went with a drapey white cami (from Fashion Nova) instead of the sleeveless tee for a more polished, but still casual, effect. Strappy sandals brought just the right dose of fierce to the look, keeping it from being bland, while a minimalist choker tied everything together nicely. I also love Sasha’s incorporation of her trademark “Legit” and “Boss” statement rings: they bring panache and Banks-ian attitude to the ensemble. Sasha slays a more formal look for her appearance at the BET Awards in an emerald lace dress by Willfredo Gerardo. The super-size lace pattern set on a mesh background has a wonderful contemporary quality, while still retaining its beauty. It’s sexy, but not crassly so. An added bonus is how stunning the color is with her plum hair shade! She brings in hints of metallic glam via her gold sandals. Nude or beige would have been more expected, but I like that she chose to do something different. This is one of the simpler looks we’ve seen from Eva Marie: she pairs a white button down top with destroyed blue denim. I love the way she’s styled her top by layering it over a bodysuit, instead of the more expected semi-sheer shirt over bra look. This keeps the modernity, but adds class and sophistication, especially since Eva left only the top two buttons of her blouse undone, letting the sexy lacing details of her bodysuit be subtext rather than a focal point. The styling is a fantastic way to transition the sultry summer bodysuit+jeans look to fall, as well as a wonderful way to make use of the fact that so many white shirts today are at the very least semi-transparent (which is a pet peeve of mine that I won’t rant about now ;)). Eva uses fierce sandals to complete this look with panache. She ramps up the seduction with her next ensemble, an off-the-shoulder graphic tee with a fab biker-punk vibe with gray destroyed denim and strappy black sandals. Her shoe choice elevates this cool look dramatically. For fall, the sandals could be swapped for pointy ankle boots. If this floral bikini looks familiar, it’s because we’ve also seen Emma wear it. The piece (now sold out) was offered through Eva’s NEM line. I love it just as much on Eva as I did on Emma.
I also love this pale lemon sundress on Gail! How incredibly pretty is this piece? Not only is there the gorgeous color, there is the feminine sweetheart neckline, fit-and-flare shape and enchanting lace hem. Everything about this dress is lighthearted and joyful. She paired it with beige espadrilles for a look that is quintessentially summer. She added a touch of flash with her hoop earrings, but her best accessory may be that glass of white wine ;). (unless it’s champagne, in which case it’s def her best accessory!). Barbie went all out with the urban facet of her fashion sense in this look. She layered a sheer bodysuit under blue denim shorts (from One Teaspoon) and accessorized it with a black Hermés belt and black suede OTK boots. While I think Barbie pulls this off quite nicely, I’m generally not a fan of the visible brassiere look; it rocks in vids and editorials, but it’s a challenge to keep classy irl. Beyond that caveat, though, I love the punchy combo of light denim blue and black. The contrast heightens the power of the black pieces and the look comes off cool and fierce. She quickly returned to summer color with this gorgeously-hued tie-dyed bikini. The strappy bottoms are about as daring as it gets and def make this suit a jaw-dropper. However, it’s the intense shading of the pattern that really sells me on it – that rich magenta, contrasted with icy mint and spiced with hints of daffodil and paprika is so beautiful and just right for baking under a glowing sun. You may remember Barbie previously wearing this Gooseberry Intimates bodysuit in black. Then, she dressed it up by wearing pointy heels with it and black jeans. Here, she kept things more casual by pairing the white piece with blue denim and furry slippers that are totally Rihanna – literally, as well as figuratively, since they are from the Fenty x Puma line. A topknot and hoop earrings complete this off-duty starlet look.
Brandi was busy working the high-low look with this knotted top, which she paired with gray distressed denim and studded gladiator sandals. I love the way this casual ensemble still keeps its edge, thanks to the studs, distressing and, most importantly, the unique and au courant silhouette. This is classic Brandi in that it still retains the undercurrent of polished confidence, even as it explores a much more modern vibe. She created a much sexier aura with her next look, a strapless playsuit done in striped of varying width. They add wonderful visual interest to this piece, although the highlight has to be that plunging sweetheart neckline! Also noteworthy is Brandi’s choice of necklace: a bold gold pendant that’s just the right length to accentuate said neckline and the sultriness of this piece! She gets props for not going with a (at this point over-done) choker; the pendant is different and consequently stands out. She goes more formal yet for her next outfit, which is fine by me because it’s a genre Brandi excels at. She ramps up the fiery statement of this coral side-lace-up bodycon dress by adding a few shots of glam: studded heels, a glittering gold clutch and a statement earring(s?). With black sandal booties, and plainer accessories, this would be a standard date night look, but the formal accessories take it to a new level. After raving over Naomi's recent photoshoot in this dress, I realized it would make a super-cute look to re-create for heading back to school (or back to work ;)..or both!). The basic part of the look is as easy as it gets: grab your nearest little black dress. If it has a special detail, like the sheer panel in Naomi's piece, fabulous. If not, nbd - it will work just as well as a backdrop anyway. It's the accessories and additions that make this styling special; this is where you get to inject all the personality. First item for consideration: baubles! Naomi accessorized her look with that insanely adorable pom pom ring a pair of golden cuff bracelets. If you have a furry ring, totally go for it - this is about being quirky and playful! Alternatively, reach for a statement ring that's not too formal, a flower in a gorgeous color, a crystal animal, anything that's not super-traditional and that you happen to love. Or, skip the ring entirely and go with a playful pair of statement earrings in a saturated shade. For bracelets, you can definitely capture the spirit of this look with just one - try a bright leather cuff or a neon bangle in one o Naomi's signature shades: lime, sherbet orange, hot pink or aqua.. Any colorful piece that's laidback and funky will work nicely. (Hint: if you don't have a bright bangle, wrap a bright belt, necklace or small scarf around your wrist instead). Next order of business: shoes! Naomi went with strappy, gold heels which elevated the outfit. Echo that concept in a more casual way with metallic sneakers or simple flats -think breezy loafers or chic pointed ballets. If you're off to school, finish this off with a whimsical backpack that riffs on the spirit of Naomi's "Vroom" clutch. If your back is firmly parked in the un-whimsical lot, you can whims it up by safety-pinning on faux flowers, adding brooches or attaching bag charms to the zippers. For a more professional variation, go with a classic black bag and let your jewelry do the talking. Oh...and your nails! We must not forget the nails! Naomi added an extra shot of color via her sunflower yellow nails that was abso maje. Pick your fave bright shade (metallic and glitter 100% allowed!) and paint away. It may seem like a lot of color, but with the black dress as the look's centerpiece and focal point, all the little touches of color come off joyous and spunky, so be fearless! Note: fearless nail shades completely encouraged for school ensembles as well. Happy styling!
The early days of transition between the seasons are always challenging for style. The weather often bounces all over place and you feel like you’re half in one season, half in the other, wanting to move toward the new season, but sorts of stuck in the weather (or pieces, if , like me, you haven’t switched around your closet yet ;)) of the old one. It can get messy, but, happily, there are ways to navigate. One of them is the use of color. Cathy’s bright ensemble is clearly designed for the summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t co-opt it as inspiration for fall. We just have to deepen the shading: instead of bright lemon yellow and pastel aqua, we can work with warmer, autumn-y mango yellow or amber and teal or emerald. Consider a basic pairing of a cami or tank and denim or chinos, topped with a blazer. The combination is basic enough, but it’s the use of color that makes all the difference and helps the look walk the line between the two seasons. The deeper hues suggest fall, but ecru pants and a mint bag keep things summery, as does the choice of beige suede pumps (green or yellow could work nicely as well). Darker pants and black accessories would kick this look much more into autumn territory. Use jewelry or a scarf to echo your second color. This way, if you take your jacket off, the look still retains that contrasting pop. Alternatively, pair wide leg pants with a drape-y blouse for a 70’s casual-luxe take on the transitional concept. Long sleeves suggest fall, but the absence of a topper is more summery, as are is the choice of pale nude for the pumps, which lightens the feel of the look considerably. (PS this same vibe could be created with beige chinos and chestnut or teal pumps). Add a long pendant necklace to enhance the 70’s vibe. Re-create Cathy’s pinned-sideways hairstyle for a vintage twist, or go with a sleek low pony for a more modern take. And if golden and green shades aren’t your jazz, other warm/cool pairings will work as well. Consider burgundy and powder blue, eggplant and blush or lilac and navy. I hope this inspires you to play with colors for your transitional looks! Happy styling, loves :)
Lana exuded causal urban cool in this simple combo of a cropped gray knit cami and blue denim. The soft-knit-meets-smooth-woven is a classic and appealing. While I would probably think of silver first as a jewelry combination with this light graphite shade, Lana warms things up by using gold instead. She uses simple, delicate pieces that add a hint of shine and pull the look together in a subtle way. This look could be completed as easily with gray sandal-booties as with metallic gold pointy pumps.
Maryse broke out her fabulous Louboutin Gypsandals again, this time to pair with a black midi dress. The LBD has a bevy of straps at the back which create an intriguing detail that has the added benefit of not competing with the focal point of her look: those incredible shoes! Her mid-height pony keeps the look polished. Her look for the Extreme Rules photoshoot showcased the opposite side of her style: a mod, rocker compliation of futuristic latex and knit leggings paired with an ultra-cool sheer+leather-striped moto jacket. The black monochrome look has plenty of variety for the eye, while still being cohesive and offers a indubitably tough vibe. Maryse layered a graphic tee underneath and then piled on plenty of glam via a chain waterfall necklace and a crystal statement belt. We’ve seen a number of variations of this black, crystal and sheer mélange from many of the divas, but it’s a tribute to Maryse’s fashion sense that I’m still on board for the street-glam vibe of this look. From there, she moves to this gray midi dress from J Lux Label. I’m enjoying the departure this piece represents for Maryse – the belt and double-breasted detailing give it a suiting vibe that we don’t often see her explore. It still has plenty of sultriness though, due to the deep-v neckline and thigh-high slit. She gets an extra shot of fierce into the look with her ankle cuff heels (better pic of those beauties below). |
