Brie and Nikki attended the Teen Choice Awards in mid-August sporting similar, but not the same, maxi slip dresses. I always love when they do this kind of look that coordinates, but also lets each of them reveal their individuality. Nikki’s nude dress is from Alice and Olivia. She added a wide dark choker and completed the look with pale nude heels. Despite the leg-lengthening effect of the nude, I think I might have preferred black strappy heels here to tie in with her necklace. Brie’s dress and black platform ankle strap heels are from Planet Blue. I love the steel gray shade of this piece! It has the sophistication of black without being black and it feels more unique. I also love the way she combined a black choker with a gold pendant for a layered jewelry look. It adds interest to the minimalist dress and a welcome hint of shine. The twins’ next event was at the Curve Expo, promoting BirdeeBee. Nikki paired a black tee with white split-leg pants. This is the 100% right away to do the split leg! By stopping at mid-calf, the split is intriguing without being ridiculous and it’s appropriate for a promotional event such as this. She finished the look with the Planet Blue sandals worn by Brie to the Kids’ Choice Awards. I often find the center-parted hairstyle harsh, but I really love the way it looks here on Nikki – sleek and fierce! Brie chose a black, wide-leg jumpsuit for the event. It’s not ground-breaking, but it is polished and professional. She wisely added a dose of drama with her studded sandals and the whole look is quietly chic.
I don’t usually go wild over sunglasses, but these metallic-tipped cat-eye shades from Fendi that Nikki is wearing are just too cool not to call out! Add a red lip, red nails and red wine…what else does a fashionable girl need? :) Summer was channeling her inner Carmella in this Insta-snap with buddy Stella Kae. She paired a leopard print dress from Show Me Your Mumu with black combat boots. This whole look has an untamed, derriere-kicking attitude to it which is super fun! I’m a huge fan of her leather newsboy cap as well – it just ladles on extra attitude! She’s also selling me on that lip purse – something I would never dream of actually owning , but I love the kick of red it adds to this look. So, when are these two ladies starting a fashion blog?

WWE came to terms on the release of Summer and Emma as of the end of October. I’m always sad to see any of the ladies leave. I get to know them and their style and watch them grow and it feels like my sister is leaving for college. I can always keep in touch, but it’s not the same. Summer’s release is the less surprising of the two, as she has not been on tv for nearly a year, due to injury. I loved her classy Instagram comment following the event:
“They say you'll never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory. Well that wasn't true in this situation. I knew the value of this moment, I knew the magnitude of this moment. I hear some of you say "but you didn't become champ", "you didn't get the push you deserved", "you didn't get a title run". But see, I got MY title. I became a WWE Diva.” Like many people, I tend to assume that every girl’s goal is hold the title, but when you think about what it takes to even make it on to the roster –all the years of training, the travel, the stress on your body, the discipline, maintaining the fitness level – it becomes clear that just becoming a Diva is a significant achievement. Summer’s thoughts put it in perspective beautifully and I’m so happy that she reached her goal. I will, however, miss her fashion muchly. Her NY Fashion Week looks in particular stand out for me as complete killage. So, I fervently hope something fashion-related is in her future! Emma (Tenille Dashwood) was also upbeat after initially posting a broken heart emoji, saying “I feel very fortunate to have the most amazing family, friends and fans in the world! I am excited for the future. The best is yet to come!” Her release was very unexpected, as she had recently begun a feud with Asuka. Her various fashion evolutions – from bouncy Aussie to dark attitude to Emmalina – were always intriguing and a sign that reinventing herself is something that she’s quite comfortable with, which should stand her in good stead for the future. We wish both her and Summer the very best for whatever direction the future takes them in! I’m so excited to finally post this for all of you! It’s been in process since literally August. I plead lack of time and scope of post: this season’s “blast” is more like a ka-boom - fashion is going in so many directions right now! There are a multitude of subtexts underlying a few dominant themes.
I’ve been working super hard on a massive new Melange post. Coming this week for ya, loves! XO
Maria was cool and casual in her black and red graphic tee and leggings. I love how she put a rocker-cool spin on this look with her leather vest and, most of all, those super hot ankle boots! A little hardware always gets my attention ;). For her summer tv appearance, she ditched casual for glam, showing off this silver sequined dress with a tulip front. The cutesy vibe of her lipstick-kiss pumps wouldn’t have been my first choice as a pairing from a fashion standpoint, but they’re a perfect way to convey her character, so I’m giving them the ok here. They definitely add a whimsical touch to this fancy piece, which makes the look stand out from the ordinary. She doubled down on that theme with her next look, a pairing of black kabooty shorts with a sequined Betty Boop tee and lipstick-kiss leather jacket in blush. The whole ensemble is so over-the-top and almost cartoonish that only Maria could pull this off successfully. Her massive, fearless personality carries this look: it doesn’t wear her, she wears it. And she channels it into a faux serious sexy lovefest. I’m completely in awe of how she makes something so wrong seem exactly right. And she earns bonus points for the on-trend fishnets. We saw Maryse wear this BCBG cape dress alone with nude pointy pumps and layered over a sheer piece with Rockstud pumps, but here she lighten the look up by completing it with Nudist ankle strap sandals. They have a barely-there quality (hence the name ;)) which really highlights the sleek softness of this dress. I’m also 100% in for her self-wrapped pony, which looks amazing on her and is rapidly becoming one of my favorite hairstyles. I also want to express my delight for Maryse and Miz and their forthcoming bundle of joy. Congrats to them! Are you ready for super-simple? How about being a boxer, à la Summer? The only prop you really need is a pair of boxing gloves – check out Amazon for an affordable pair (like these. Note that the weight and color make a big difference in the price). Then, grab a hoodie, a sports bra, running shorts, a towel and a water bottle. Summer went with bright neon colors, which adds intensity to the look and makes it stand out. Alternatively, Sasha’s snaps form this same shoot were done in carbon grays and black, with just one pop of deep purple, so consider that option if you’re feeling a bit badder :). Last item: sneakers! Pick up an authentic pair (like these) or use any pair of high-top, lightweight ones you already own (no flatforms please :)). Brush up on your air-punching skills before the big day and be sure to finish the look with plenty of attitude ‘cuz you know you’re a knockout, right? ;) Ok, how easy was that?
Brie: A quartet of Divas attended this year’s ESPY awards and we saw quite the gamut of fashion! Lana kicked things off with a sheer knit halter-neck dress (from House of CB) which sported demure slits on each side. The crux of the look is the semi-transparent nature of the dress, which allows her strapless balconette bra and high-waisted briefs to create a shadow-silhouette beneath. While I love the clean, minimalist drama of the cutaway halter, I would infinitely prefer if this piece was lined. Unfortunately, doing so would make an already fairly laidback piece even more casual -too casual , really, for a red carpet event, even a more relaxed one such as this. Although I can’t come to a successful resolution of that conundrum, I appreciate the appropriateness of the sporty vibe of the piece for this event. Lana brought the fanciness up tremendously with her excellent choices of accessories: shoulder-grazing star earrings (so amazing!!), and a sprinkling of gold and crystal rings (all from Y2K Jewelers) and fabulous chain-embellished strappy sandals (the Hypnotize from Lola Shoetique). I’m definitely on board for the way the touches of shine and sparkle elevate this look! I also love the subtlety of her make-up palette; the amber, clay and taupe tones enhance her beauty without getting in the way of her outfit. And after all the bright lips we’ve seen all summer, this pastel golden rose is a nice change.
Next up was Maryse who took a much more glamorous approach (such a surprise, right? ;)) in this glittering Abyss By Abby gown. The plunging neckline and spaghetti-strap piece was a familiar silhouette for Maryse; while we’ve seen it before it also happens to be one that works flawlessly for her. I could have done without the second front slit, but I’m almost reconciled to that by the glorious bittersweet color of the gown. It’s uncommon and stunning. Sizeable crystal earrings bring in an additional dose of drama, while strappy beige-adobe Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals and a coordinating Louboutin envelope clutch complete the look. I love how her chocolate smoky eye echoes the warmth of her gown’s color. I love even more that she styled this look herself. Brava, Maryse! I can’t help but admire ladies who the guts and the fashion sense to do that, especially because the look then becomes a little extra authentic in that there’s no one between the fashion and the wearer to dilute their personal style sensibilities. Kim: Red carpets are always a fashion-lovers dream. You can see such a mix of fashion choices, and the 2017 ESPY Awards were the perfect example of that. From sleek dresses to sport-like looks, the WWE Superstars brought it all to the table this year. First up, I have to talk about my girl Nikki Bella. She went in a totally different direction than previous years at the ESPY's. Sporting a white crop top (from Missguided) with black trim and zipper detail, black flowy pants with white stripes (from Adidas x Stella McCartney), this is a very street/tomboy inspired look. The waistband of her Birdiebee underwear is clearly visible, which to some may be a fashion no-no. But for me, I'm giving it a pass, mostly because it's her and Brie's own fashion line. You can't blame her for wanting to show it off a little. Also, oh freaking amazing is her clutch. I want it! McKenzie tried out a denim-on-denim look, variously known as a Canadian tuxedo and Texas tuxedo (seems like a lot of places claim the pairing! ;)). She noted on her IG that the look was inspired by Guess and I can see it! It would totally work as one of their campaign snaps. She pairs high-waisted blue denim shorts with a coordinating tied-high button-down that lets just a hint of brassiere peek through. For a real life look, I’d probably swap the bra for a bandeau, cropped tank or bustier, but for a Guess ad, I’ll let it slide ;). It’s also worth noting that denim-on-denim is remaining an important trend this fall.
This look from Renee strikes me as a quintessential example of her style: it’s offbeat, laidback and unexpected. She pairs a half-tucked sleeveless graphic tee with high-waisted leather pleated shorts and rounds off the ensemble with suede peeptoe booties. The textural play here – leather, suede, knit – is fantastic and the whole styling has this enviable urban-chic vibe that I’m wild over. Her half-updo adds a softer touch which works nicely. Sasha explored a similar vibe at the BET Experience as she, too, chose leather shorts to pair with a hanf-tucked top. The Boss went with a drapey white cami (from Fashion Nova) instead of the sleeveless tee for a more polished, but still casual, effect. Strappy sandals brought just the right dose of fierce to the look, keeping it from being bland, while a minimalist choker tied everything together nicely. I also love Sasha’s incorporation of her trademark “Legit” and “Boss” statement rings: they bring panache and Banks-ian attitude to the ensemble. Sasha slays a more formal look for her appearance at the BET Awards in an emerald lace dress by Willfredo Gerardo. The super-size lace pattern set on a mesh background has a wonderful contemporary quality, while still retaining its beauty. It’s sexy, but not crassly so. An added bonus is how stunning the color is with her plum hair shade! She brings in hints of metallic glam via her gold sandals. Nude or beige would have been more expected, but I like that she chose to do something different. |
