Naomi's look consisted of a cute floral crop top paired with a sheer overskirt. Her giant heart necklace made me think of over-the-top jewelry Madonna or Cyndi Lauper would wear. That same vibe comes through in her poses as well. Her hairstyle is killer - I love the playful waves and the super-high pony styling - it's a great way to add fresh femininity to an outfit. I also dig her pink lip; strong colors work well for her and this is a fun change from classic red. Her shoes are my abso fav part of her look though. What's not to love about sequined, bow-embellished silver pumps? ;)
I was really interested to see how Becky would handle this shoot, as dreamy, frilly and fluffy don't seem to be her thing at all. The leggings and boots proved that guess correct; they make sort of an odd moment in the set, amid all the tulle. However, I was pleasantly surprised by her instinct to pair fierce with glam! A grommet-detailed leather top layered with quantities of crystal strands? Hello, fabulous! That's such an amazing combo I can't even! If only she'd paired it with ripped denim and bare feet, like some kind of glam-grunge angel, I'd have been ttly slayed. Still, for a gorgeous girl who's more comfortable with leglocks than Lanvin, this is a creditable effort. +1, Becks! Alicia played up the vintage side of this shoot with her embroidered, laced and fringed skirt. Her incorporation of the peachy-pink shades was inspired, bringing out the muted, almost Impressionistic quality of the setting. And her drapey wrap top nudges this look just slightly into boho territory, for a retro-romantic vibe. She finished the look with fabulous leather sandals that I hope we get to see more of! Her close-up shot lets the beauty of her winged eye and shimmery shadow really be seen. Props to the makeup team! I'm hair-over-heels over her high-knotted hairstyle - the complexity is dazzling and the look is so unique! Trust the Foxy One to never lull us with something ordinary...Reason No. 564923 why we adore her!

Camel is an often overlooked neutral, which is a shame because it's one of the most versatile shades out there. It's light (so you don't feel funereal), but not so light that it's impractical for stain magnets (like yours truly :)), making it a super-versatile shade for a blazer. The classic pairing is to match camel with black. The modern combo is to mix it with a cool neutral like gray. Personally, I'm a fan of mixing it with blue denim. It's fresh and a bit more relaxed than sophisticated black and gray tones. It also lends itself both to an all-neutral look or styling with a shot of color. Start by layering a neutral crop top underneath - tee or sweater, depending on weather. Leave the blazer open (a la Brie!) for a casual event or night wear. Button it for day or professional looks, or choose a standard-length top. Don't shy away from prettily-edged pieces that are slightly longer than the blazer - a sheer, lacy or ruffled edge peeking out looks gorgeous! Keep the casual vibe by finishing the look with chunky-heeled ankle booties in a similar light shade. This keeps your whole ensemble essentially neutral. For accessories, think tassel pendant or tiny fleck of metallic shine (see Brie's look for a demo of that). If you feel more colorful, pop this look with a bright scarf in any shade you can imagine: reds, pinks, bright blues, oranges, yellow, mint, lavender, mauve. An embroidered or tassel-edged one shows off your boho side, while monochrome or printed silk (or cashmere) elevates the look. Alternatively, try a pocket square ;). Finish with colored shoes in a complementary color. Hope this inspires you to try the camel and denim color story sometime :) Happy styling!
The Big Dub celebrated Valentine's Day with a guazy, dreamy shoot which was a major departure in feel from what we've been mainly seeing. The vintage, hazy mood of this set was intriguing and very appropriate to the day. I always love seeing the ladies have a chance to stretch and do different things, so this was a huge win on that front!
Paige was one of my favs from the shoot because she put her own spin on this girly-feeling background. The tipped-over chair and spilled flowers injected a rock n' roll after-show party attitude, which was helped alog by Paige's fashion choices. A tulle skirt, a tied-high tee, a leopard-lined leather jacket, combat boots: this is girly-gone-kicka$$! I've never been a fan of fishnets, but they work here. Their trashtastic vibe is balanced out but the ultra-femininity of the tulle skirt, which is pretty much how this whole look plays out. There's a great balance of edgy and sweet which makes the whole styling feel right. PS I love how her taupe lip works here - the muted color plays really well against this background. I also hope Paige doesn't stay paused on this Kylie Jenner look for ages :) Renee has one of the most interesting outfit choices of the group. Her gray cropped sweater has a deconstructed mod feel to it, which fits right in. She paired it with this vintage-y-feeling world traveler-ish print skirt that brings in all these yellow and blue shades that match nothing else. It works in because all the tones are muted, but it caught my eye as a whimsical choice that was surprising in the way in which it fit in. Given that offbeat piece, I might have gone with more understated shoes. But not bold Renee! She finished her look with strong, metallic chunky-heeled platforms. Where a lot of the ladies' pics work because of how they fit into the backdrop, Renee's works because of how she pops off of it. I abso adore her tassel necklace! And I also adore her poses. She completely rocked every one of them, capturing that romantic, graceful femininity that this set seemed to be calling for. From that perspective, her set is one of my top two. PS if you can't get enough of Renee's humor and quirky commentary, she now has her own blog! Check it out at prettyfunnyblonde.com. (I think someday she & I need to have a convo about tees ;) ) When Eden teased this shoot on Instagram, she made reference to not usually being a fit-and-flare girl, but her clean, classic sense of style comes shining through nonetheless. Her super-cute dress is one of the simplest choices displayed in this shoot. Like so many of her choices, a few accessory changes would make it a great option for dozens of occasions. She's accented it with a chic pearl torsade and a fab laced waist belt, which makes this both flirty and innocent at the same time, like a girl-next-door playing pin-up. She keeps that going with softly come-hither poses, even as she adds a touch of modern magic with glittered platform pumps. The whole look is shopable via the links on her insta. You're on your own for come-hither looks ;) If something beautiful and flirty is your vibe, Lana's look is probably just the thing to inspire your date night style! I love the smooth, flowy mix of silk with the pretty pattern of lace. She paired her pink-on-pink combo with gray suede OTK's, which looked amazing! So, def think about rocking those with a lace mini, if ya got one! I wanted to re-envision this soft color palette, though, using some more practical and probably-in-your-closet items. A gray lace skirt of almost any silhouette - pencil, A-line, mermaid- and length -mini, midi, maxi- can be paired with a pale silk blouse (again, I'd layer favorite Icebreaker base piece underneath) to recreate Lana's play between smooth and patterned. I couldn't resist topping this look with a Lana-esque faux fur coat, but a wool swing coat or peacoat will add warmth as well, while looking appropriately formal. Silver pumps make a pretty (and much more practical) option than gray suede boots. Alternatively, if you have slim-heeled black booties, you can use those too - just add another touch of black somewhere: purse, bracelet, earrings, even your watchband. Perhaps, instead of gray, you've collected yourself a pink lace (or tulle or scalloped or otherwise femme and flirty) skirt along your shopping way. In that case, this is the perfect time to explore the gray-and-pink scenario by pairing it with a chunky gray sweater. Finish it with nude lace-up heels..or metallic flats for you gals who abso don't do heels :) Any light colored-coat will top this combo nicely, while maintaining the soft color palette. You can accessorize with rose gold baubles, or silver - especially if you've used metallic shoes- , or even gold and crystal since the gold picks up the warmth of the pink. Oh the options! The choices! It's "pick one and have fun" tonight..or tomorrow or any day in the future where you want to feel like a dreamy, new romantic :) Happy Styling...and Happy Valentine's Day. Much love from me to you as we share this sweet romance we call the love of fashion! XOs -Brie
In honor of Valentine's Day and in celebration of all things love-related -loving your bf, loving your bff, loving yourself, loving your pets, loving the world at large, loving fashion- we'll be doing a couple of romance-leaning Inspiration Boards to get you in the mood if you're heading out tonight to party with any of the above :). Pink and gray is an incredible, soft combination that has a definite, feminine, dreamy feel to it. It's gorgeous and chic and, if Paige is your fashion goddess, you probably feel the need, as she does, to toughen things up just a bit. I ttly hear that! Paige's cute tee+tulle skirt combo is perfect for warmer climes, but if you're trying to pull this look off in say..oh...25 degree weather, you're going to want a few more layers. Enter the sweatshirt (in my case, layered over an Icebreaker merino wool top). Something with a message, or a graphic is perfectly funky and acceptable. You can go with an unembellished one as well. The important thing here is color: it should be pink, gray, a combo of the two, or a warm neutral (ivory or taupe). Next, you need a femme skirt. I've gone with lace here, but tulle will do nicely, as will anything with sheer, frothy layers or a scalloped hem. Pick your color based on your sweatshirt options so you have a combo of gray and pink. You can swap in another neutral for one or the other if you need to. Now, it's time for the tough stuff...enough of this icky sweetness! Lol. Add heeled biker boots (anything with a zipper will work. Lug soles rough things up even more) and a motorcycle jacket. I've gone with a gray suede version here, but if your closet is a bit short on gray suede, consider black denim jacket or a gray military jacket instead. Paige has a hint of leopard showing via the lining of her jacket so I added some ferociousness with a leopard print scarf. Give that a try if animal is your thing. Or, try a studded scarf. You can also leave the scarves at home and amp things up with a studded ring or leather bracelets. Happy Styling! #LoveFashion
First, my massive apols to all of you who checked for this last night. I meant to have it up and life happened (dang life :)). Anywhats...
Textural Elegance: Elegance is perhaps the look for Prom night. The modern rendition of this style incorporates a bit of texture: lace, crystals, a sheer overlay, floral appliques, a jacquard weave. A scarf, luxurious clutch or fabulous shoes can bring texture even to a simpler dress. Warm neutrals or saturated colors both make beautiful statements. Alicia's fabulous feathered teal gown is tough to replicate, but this gorgeous turquoise lace dress comes close! It's also quite similar to the look I chose for my prom ;). Structured heels balance the delicate lace, with a splash of crystal at the heels making them fierce and prom-worthy. (PS Hint: chunky heels and ankle straps make high shoes easier to walk in). Even just a touch of lace can go a long way, as with this plum gown or black coord set. In both cases, strappy heels set off the feminine lace. The more classic purple gown gets modern, bootie-type sandals, while the trendy set gets a more classic silhouette. Summer's choice of mint was admirable...and one you'll want to keep in mind with princess-y dresses. White or ivory can have a bridal feel, so choosing pastel shades like mint or deep champagne can help dispel that and make you feel more like "royalty" than "Just Married". The floral appliques on this dress make it an absolute standout; only the simplest of adornments is necessary. So, for shoes, I chose a pair that references the look of Weitzman's Nudist. The ice-green one-shoulder gown has touches of crystal accents, making it both formal and elegant. This classy combination is a place where you can use similarly-shaded shoes. This rose-embellished set is a touch deeper in color than the dress, which is perfect - complementary without matching. Naturally, pearl, nude or silver shoes would work just as well :) Jewels = tiny...or none :) If you've been thinking about your upcoming Prom lately and need something to get your creative juice flowing, stick around! We've spent the last two weeks prom shopping and the fruits of our labor are yours for the snacking on...stylish comestibles, indeed ;) Before we get into the girl talk, here's an fyi: if you fall in love with any dress shown here, the links to all of them are available on our polyvore page under "Likes" (make sure you scroll down. When you get to the green Lands' End sweater, you've hit the end of the prom stuff lol), along with gobs of pretty shoes under $100. A huge percentage of my picks came from Nordstrom, which is a great place to start, since they also carry shoes and jewels...it's one-and-done shopping :)
Party Glam: One of the most fun things about a formal dance like the Prom is that you get to glam things up, if you choose to. You can think of it as your own personal red carpet :). On the flip side it's still a party..so you can rock a party look, spiced with glam. It's the kind of thing Barbie or Michelle would do! Barbie's gorgeous satin dress look is one of my all-time favs from her...it's so flirty and femme! Her high pony just makes it flawless! You can hardly get more classic for the Prom than a pink dress. Balancing that sweetness with black shoes is a tried and true combination. I always love throwing a spin into style, so I would think about matching it with navy or deep purple. Mixed-stone earrings or layered bracelets in blues, purples and magentas would complete the jewel-tones aesthetic. A crop-top and maxi skirt in silk or satin would also be a ttly Barbie choice. This white and azalea set can be kept fresh by going with white sandals. The silver detail adds a touch of icy glam. Chilled-steel glamour is also very much a Michelle kind of styling. A black dress with a touch of ruffle and a crystal belt would be just her thing! I love the simple sparkle of this one. While Michelle would probably up the dazzle factor with crystal shoes, I would lean toward the unexpected magic of a bright pop of color from something like these bright amethyst lace-up sandals. Like Barbie, Michelle would also try the two-piece look. Blue was always one of her trademark colors and it's obvi why: it's hard to go wrong in! This one has crystal accents at the collar and waist for chic, Old Hollywood-esque glitter. Simple silver pumps would finish this off without competing with that glorious set. |
