One of the most important trends currently taking the fashion universe by storm is the wide leg pant. Shove over, skinny jeans ;). I love the wide leg look - it's amazingly chic when done right- but, it can also be a bit tricky. It can't be styled any-old-how; it has to be done right. Renee gives us a look at how it's done in her recent Be A Star event appearance. First, let's talk fabric. Wide legs are a place for drapey materials: crepe, fine wool, silk. This is not a place for canvas or chino. Denim can work, if it's a not a stiff denim and if the cut is right. Speaking of cuts: look for something that at least mentions your waist. Boy-cuts are not your friends here. Pieces described as "slim through the hip" is what you're seeking. Once you've got your hands on the right pair, the important styling consideration becomes defining your waist. Skip it and you'll hate wide legs forever. Keep it in mind and you'll find the comfort and flowy quality of the wide pant to be your new love! How to do it? One way is like Renee - with a slim fitting cropped top. The gap between the bottom of your top (lol - how's that for wordplay? ;)) and the top of your bottoms is what creates the waist visually. You can also do this with a skinny, curve-hugging longer top. Think 'ribbed turtleneck' for a totally 70's vibe. Play that up with chunky-heeled suede ankle boots and a pendant necklace (or 3 :)). You can also create a waist by tucking in a blouse or button-down shirt for a blouson look (blouson is when a piece or outfit is cinched or collected at the waist so that it billows (i.e. blouses) forward above the cinching. It's a forgiving and super-chic look that can be done with every variety of shirt from drapey silk to plain cotton to sheer voile. If you're a flats kind of girl, here's where ya bring them in for easy sophistication. Another fun alternative is to pair a tunic top with the wide leg but!...make sure you add a belt. Belt = waist. This look has a definite artsy, confident vibe which can be accentuated with a touch of leopard print, or a strong statement color. If laidback looks are more your thing, you can also create a waist via the half-tuck. This styling is slouchy and lends itself well to grunge or boho pairings: boyfriend sweater, band tee. Finish it off with casual boots - a vaguely Western or moto style works perfectly. Hope you have some fun styling a wide-leg pant soon! XOs

This fairy-tale-princess gone modern look would be stunning paired with gold metallic heels, long, delicate earrings and a Barbie-esque up-do! And if you're jonesing for more prom ideas, never fear - we'll have an entire post's-worth of inspiration for you coming later this week. So, feel free to stalk this blog; we won't call the (Style) Cops ;)
There's a reason why the classic sheath is..well...classic: versatility. One single piece gives you lots of options. You can make it more casual or more formal, work-ready or just right for date-night, all by how you accessorize it. Your classic sheath (and every lady should own at least one!) should be simple in style and silhouette, possibly with one or two unique details. It should be a shape you love wearing. Black is, of course, the iconic color and the first you should buy. However, the classic, wardrobe-foundational sheath can also be done in nearly-equally-classic red, ivory, taupe, camel, gray or navy. Think of this as Your. Classic. Dress - your bedrock, go-to piece that you can turn to time and again. With me? Fab. Now...accessories! You can do this dress a la Stephanie: keep everything simple (tiny baubles, if any), except for one fabulous pair of statement shoes. They can be buckled booties, studded pumps, artsy sandals. Easy as pie and plenty of impact. You can also make this look much more formal: add a piece of statement jewelry - a can't-miss-it necklace, a bold ring or chandelier earrings - and heels (think patent peeptoes or suede pointed pumps). On the flip side, you take can things down a notch (and change up the look of the dress) by adding a belt. Something wide and smooth, such as an obi belt, will work, as will a narrower version with a bit of detailing - woven or punched leather, an interesting buckle. This formal-casual hybrid can be finished with simple ankle or mid-calf booties for a touch of fierce. Then, let's say you need to tone things down even more for a lunch date, a museum visit or that day you just feel like wearing a dress to school. Here's where flats become your bff. Try ballets, loafers or fun, pretty ankle wraps. Toss a scarf around your neck for careless chic. Happy Styling!
The WWE is at it again with their annual Diva Bowl and this year, in rather a surprise move, it's Bella-free. It's also got a fun addition in the form of a ref. Luckily, Alicia does all her referee-ing in the 'shoot; I can't imagine how many fumbles there would be if she was actually out there during the game ;) She's looking fine as always in a striped ref shirt and cute shorts. She adds a previously unknown level of sex appeal to this shoot via her poses, particularly the ones with the whistle. It's a semi-subtle come-hither that brings a fun flirtatiousness to the shoot. Her deep currant lip shade is a highlight! Charlotte represents the Panthers, an understandable homage considering her birthplace. The whipstitch lacing on her jersey is totally killer, as are the lace-up details at the sides. She gives us a detailed exploration of her game-face expressions, which works really well for this type of shoot. Lana sports the Broncos' orange jersey, paired with white shorts. Her top, like Charlotte's, gets a bit of whipstitching and benefits from it. I'm a fan of cap sleeves, so I love that aspect of the silhouette too, as well as the bright orange shade against her blonde hair. Lana nails her poses - facials and stances - and the way she pushes the envelope to get some really game-worthy, athletic positions is excellent. All three ladies work together wonderfully to make this set of snaps carry intensity and attitude. It's a fitting prep for the big game...which is a big score for being their first Bowl!
January closed with a bang in terms of fashion! Stephanie and Renee got together for a Be A Star rally in Miami and they both rocked their looks. We see a lot of denim and mini dresses from Divas and I love denim and a great mini as much as any girl, but I also love seeing something different. It wakes up my senses and fires up my imagination. Renee gave us a how-to-do for wide leg pants, a look that's been making serious in-roads in the skinny trend. Wide legs are incredibly chic when done right (more on that soon ;)). Cut (it's all about the right waist)and fabric are important - you want something with a little drape. This is not the time to give in to your desire for anything canvas or taffeta :). Renee matched her black pair with a white crop top for a modern, crisp look. This is a great way to play with silhouettes : sleek and form-fitting on top, flowy on the bottom. Nude heels finish the look with a hint of warmth. (You could do a pop of color too). Stephanie gave us two classic dresses, both updated with a super-sophisticated midi length. I love the cap sleeves on her red dress; they make the silhouette flawless and keep the look fresh. Her three-quarter-sleeved and scoop-necked black dress is as classic as it gets. You could keep the accessories simple, as Steph has done, or add a punch with bold jewels or a scarf. In both cases, it's her shoes that make the killage: these studded peeptoe booties (the unfortunately sold-out Michael Kors Bryn) bring the FIERCE hard. She also gets props for the beautiful flushed pink cheek look - how much more gorgeous can ya get ?- and the 90's-rerefencing asymmetrical-part hairstyle. This combination has a breezy, youthful vibe and looks aaaaaamazing!
OMG can't even! It's not every day that one my favorite divas wears one of my favorite pieces by one of my favorite brands! Yeet. Did I mark when I saw this amazing shot? Yes, I did. It's one of many Brie graced us with recently and which I will most definitely be raving/freaking/blathering over and sharing with you in ever-so-fabulous ways in the next few days. But for now, let's talk BLAZERS. I adore blazers. Like, couldn't live without them kind of adore. There's nothing that adds polish and elevation to an outfit instantaneously like a great blazer. Literally, nothing. And one of the things J Crew does best of all is blazers! They tend to get fabrics, cuts, linings, details (functional chest pocket for pocket squares (or silk flowers ;)), functional cuff buttons for when you need to roll your sleeves, pop-able collars) all just right. Blazers are something you invest in; they're not fast fashion that's gone in .02 seconds or forgotten by Monday. Blazers are pieces you have for awhile...think decades, lifetimes...future lifetimes ;). This beautiful camel example is J. Crew's Regent blazer. Right now, it's available in three-season wool (four season if you're anywhere with air conditioning ;)) in a number of gorgeous neutrals and one classic red shade. It's fitted in a softly femme way, as opposed to a hug-your-curves-like-a-glove kind of way and sports all the details described above. So, yes...you need one. Choose your fav neutral in wool...and then check out their velvet offerings and pretty spring shades in linen..you know...for your wishlist ;) (PS I'm also a fan of their "Looks We Love" section!)
It looks pretty as a picture where Brooke is, but as it's spitting like a p'd-off feline here, I thought I'd do some rain day inspiration and metamorphosize Brooke's look for those not-so-sunny days. I absolutely love wearing skirts in the rain! I kind of have this mental image of flipping off the weather like "Ha! Still stylin', even tho you're trying to stop me!" :) Skirts are just fun and femme and a great way to add bright color on a rainy day, which is another thing I love doing. Nothing is more blah to me than wearing gray (although I adore gray!) on a gray day. Get yo brights out :) Prints are especially fun since they're a whole lot of colors mixed together, making Brooke's pretty printed skirt a rain day insta-classic. Stay cozy by pairing it with a chunky sweater. Go dry with knee-high rainboots (in a color) ..are you sensing a common theme yet? :)...and a colored umbrella. The print makes it easy to blend a bunch of shades, so if you have hunter green rain boots and a pink umbrella, that can all work via the right print to tie it all together. (Hint: if you don't have a skirt that makes all this work, use a solid skirt (omg colored tulle!) and do your blending with a scarf - just choose a cotton, modal or wool one (not silk) that won't tend to get rain dots if some drops hit it). If your boots and umbrella match (props @ you for planning ahead!), you can do this combo with a print OR a neutral. If you're short on scarves and skirts, go for a low-neck sweater and layer a plaid buttondown underneath and blend your colors that way. See - there are gobs of different ways to pull all these beautiful brights together. So, go for it :) ...let's see you walking in the purple (or green, blue, yellow, orange) rain! #BrookeAndPrinceOhMy
