SummerSlam week is always a great week for fashion, nearly rivaling Wrestlemania. This year, we got a taste of everything from boho to Black Swan looks.
The former is represented by Brie (shocking, right? ;)) as she donned this blue mini dress with bell sleeves and a crocheted hem. The lace-up detailing at the front adds a dash of sassy modernity to this carefree piece. She paired it with a camel leather bag and white strappy platforms. It's a simple combination that works perfectly. I also love how cute her new, shorter hairstyle looks here!
We also got a look at Carmella's out-of-the-ring style, as she visited the One World Observatory. She combined a sleeveless, high-neck ribbed top in toasted almond with dark floral shorts. Caramel lace-up sandals finished the outfit. I'm digging everything about this look...right up until the shoes. And here's why: the golden warmth of the caramel is gorgeous, but it forms a big contrast with the cool tone of her top. If that color play was the raison d'etre of her look, I could ttly swing with it, but there's more going on with that floral print. It makes her shoes look like something of a mis-match. I think I'd have gone with black sandals instead - same style, same everything, just a color swap. But I don't worry about Carmella. Girlfriend's got fashion sense and I can' t wait to see her intriguing style!
Bayley has always been about bright colors and fun, whimsical accents in her gear. When she first debuted, it was all a bit wild on the eyes, but she's been working on staying true to her bouncy self, while creating a more cohesive visual and I like the results! This gear incorporates purple holograph fabric, edged with dark teal metallic and some funky graphics at the sides. I love the way this ensemble fits her lighthearted personality, but still feels harmonic. Nice one, Bayls!
Charlotte appeared on Good Morning America to promote SummerSlam and she did so in this vibrant coral dress. The simple, sleeveless fit-and-flare silhouette let's the color do all the talking and this glorious melon shade has plenty to say! It looks amazing on Char, with her blonde hair and tanned skin. She paired it with her current fave BCBG Jetts heels, her trademark watch, a few band rings with lower digit placement for a trendy nod and stud earrings for a touch extra flash. Her black sandals ground the look, while her touches of jewelry embellish this dress, without overwhelming. It's a flawless example of doing style just right - just enough twists, just enough pizzazz, just the right color, just enough editing. Brava.
And about that Black Swan reference? That's immediately what came to mind when I saw Charlotte's SummerSlam gear. It's an interesting contradiction that she's gone with bright colors all through the spring and now, here, in the heart of summer, chooses to go dark. Not expecting that :)...but that just makes me love it more! And I do love this gear! All the glamour and bedazzlement take on an almost surreal mysteriousness when set against these mesmerizing dark tones, while the tiny hints of deep purple whisper of royalty. I'm sure it's the feathers that make me think of the  Black Swan and while so many of them - especially in addition to all the sparkle - could seem ostentatious, the noir palette works as a flawless counterbalance, softening their effect into one of graceful, delicate texture. It's stunning!

Inspiration Board: Summer - Print x 2

Summer's gorgeous stripes and florals combo looks amazing in this warm-weather silhouette, but it can be appropriated for fall as well. Florals are having a very autumnal moment, with a number of designers showing darker garden-type prints on the runway. Stripes always offset florals in a flawless way and they don't need to be done with shorts to do it :). A more accessible - and classic - piece is the button-down, although a non-button blouse will do fabulously as well, as will a sophisticated floral tee. And while we're on the subject of options, let's talk about other print-on-prints! I loved Summer's look (and Nikki's similar pairing of floral stripes), but it got me pondering what other patterns would work together, carry a punch, but not be overwhelming. 'Cuz multiple prints in one outfit can frankly go Mad Hatter preeeeetty dang easy. For realz. But, it can be done without looking like an escapee from a Wonderland tea party. the trick is to blend one complex print with a simpler one. Florals, geometrics and paisleys all fall under the "complex" category. Simple prints include dots, stripes and checks (think gingham for warm weather, houndstooth for fall). "Simple" means two colors max and more of a "pattern" type design. The closet staple blazer is a perfect companion for this look, as it's readily available in said patterns (you probably even have one hanging out somewhere in the recesses of your wardrobe) and makes a solid (pun not intended, but cheerfully accepted now that it's here) investment piece, even in a non-solid fabric. If you wnat to switch up Summer's theme, try dots with your florals - just as interesting as stripes and a bit more playful: i.e., a flawless antidote to the dark glamour of a jewel-toned floral. Try saucy, modern geometric against iconic, conservative houndstooth and haberdashery-inspired pinstripes over artistic, bohemian paisley. Keep your bottoms and your shoes simple: neutrals only! Weellll, maybe go for a pinch of color in your shoes if you're audacious ;) -choose one that's pulled from the print. Stay with straightforward fabrics: denim, chino, woven wool, and classic footwear silhouettes devoid of embellishment: pointy or almond toe pumps, loafer or ballet flats, pointy-toed ankle boots (but keep them classic; skip the studs, Western vibes, fringe, peeptoe styles). Jewelry = minimal or none. If you're not a blazer girl, consider using pants as your alt-print piece; stripes, houndstooth and dots all lend themselves to trousers quite nicely. A cool-girl variation would be a bomber instead of  blazer - how about a floral bomber over a striped or dot tee? If you're still a bit shy about all this, try it will all-neutral prints - editing out the color simplifies the look and keeps it cleaner and less busy. Mixing multiple prints may sound daunting, but it's actually easier than you'd believe ..and it's fun, a bit whimsical and definitely quirky! I hope you give it a try sometime soon :) Happy styling, loves!

Lana's NYC style swung from downtown girl to uptown chic when she dressed for this Reading Celebration.  She exchanged her denim and sneakers for this sleek, cutout pantsuit in a sophisticated shade of navy and completed the polished look with strappy sandals. I love the way the black and navy works together, as well as the way her pretty blonde messy braids keep the look casual and down-to-earth. If I were going to split hairs, I think I'd advocate a piece bold gold statement jewelry somehwere...but who needs to split hairs all the time? ;)
Jojo put together a super-cool outfit for  the same Reading Celebration, pairing a simple black tee with oversized houndstooth pants in a lovely combo of ivory and almond. I love the way the unusual scale of the houndstooth takes it from classic to graphic and give the outfit it's pop! She topped it all with a cropped black zip jacket - another piece I'm mad for. Every girl needs a casual, fierce jacket like this to pair with...oh, EVERYthing. Jojo finished the look with black ankle booties. I think I would have leaned toward pointy toe leather pumps here, but I like the way the booties make the outfit feel more laidback.
Stephanie hopped on the white trend when she visited a New York city-area children's hospital in this simple white sheath. This is the kind of classic look we see often from Stephanie and here, as in many cases, it's just right. A simple, polished statement is classy, professional and stylish. I'd wager she paired this look with black sandals. I could also see adding a scarf to this outfit- it would maintain the same refined feel, while bringing in a touch of color. I tend to gravitate toward that idea when visiting hospitals as they can sometimes feel quite drab to those who are healing. A bit of brightness in an outfit can bring a happy spark.
Dana's contribution to the SummerSlam festivities was a visit to a Be A Star rally, where she wore this ribbed sand-colored tunic over black leggings. Although I'd sort of have loved if this was a maxi dress instead of a tunic, this is definitely one of my favorite looks from Dana. I love the chic color combination and the trendy pieces. Her statement necklace brought just the right spike of glamour, along with those fabulous Rockstud pumps (you can always get me with a great pair of shoes! ;)). Her straight, side-parted hair is flawless. This is such a great styling from Dana; it doesn't try too hard and it fits her fashion sense - she owns the look, not the other way around. Loving it!
I've made mention - Honorable Mention to be exact :) - of Alexa's super cool gear previously (see our 2016 Ring Gear Awards for details). Her SummerSlam outfit is one more in the line-up of gear that makes us eeee! Black plus something seems to be her current theme and this time around, the "something" turned out to be silver, a ttly fierce match-up for black. that goes double when it's emblazoned with tiny crystals. Oh, and let's not forget the studs at the hems, straps and waists. Basically, Alexa's look is a treasure trove of all things good in gear embellishment. Add to that metal gloves and glitter in her hair and we're just...SLAY US, girl #KneelingInWait.
Naomi is next up, attending a Special Olympics basketball game in blue and white plaid leggings with a denim bustier top and a denim vest layer over all. I'm kind of borderline about each element individually, but they work well together and Nay-nay gets props for playing with proportion by layering the longer vest over a high-waisted style of pant. I'm also a fan of how she paired this casual look with boots; they fit the laidback vibe. They're my fave part of the look...along with her neon lime hair color - that's HOT!

FashionHap: Sneak Peek - Upcoming Total Divas Prom, Etc

Lana spent a few days in New York with her sister during the middle of Aug and, as she often does, totally switched up her style for that short time. It's SO much FUN when she does this; it keeps The Fashion Blogger Life interesting! So, speciba, Queen Lana! For this particular jaunt, she paired a denim lace-up pantsuit with high top sneakers and a baseball cap. Imagine - glamorous Lana does a baseball cap! She looks ttly downtown cool: "Lana From The Block" anyone? :)
Cathy has been showing quite a flair for amazing looks since she first caught our attention. This one is a fabulous blend of tough and tender. She pairs a studded leather mini skirt (from Nasty Gal, id by fashionofthedivas.tumblr.com) with a velvet camisole. This has such a great textural contrast - lush velvet, smooth leather, hard flashy studs ...and a touch of lace trim on her cami for a bit more femininity. The outfit is incredibly pretty...but not at all too sweet. Kind of like dark chocolate :). She adds a touch more gold with a delicate necklace from Topshop, which pulls the whole thing together. I'm envisioning black heels with this: fierce sandals or cool-girl ankle booties.
Spoiler alert! There will be a prom this season on Total Divas! Ooooo. Ahhhhhhh. The whole situation apparently arose because Miz discovered Maryse had never been to a prom (do they not do the prom thing in Canada? I can't imagine there would have been anything other than a line of guys stretching straight across the country waiting to invite Maryse to one). TD therefore decided to throw one the blonde beauty (and the rest of the divas (Ha! See - Total Divas ="divas"! It's not passe!)) could attend. We got a sneak peek at a couple of outfits thanks to the magic of Instagram. Maryse chose a white halter gown, embellished with gold stripes. The simplicity of this dress is lovely. She gets massive props from me for her elbow-length gloves (LOVE) and her gorgeous updo - I love the dangly tendrils falling to one side. Dana's choice was a modern dress in a classic shade. The wrap style I can totally get behind. the plunge front is just a bit much for the prom, though. (Yes, the prom. I like my definite articles. Leave it there. :D #GrammarSoldier). I'm not sure how I feel about the calf-high gladiators either. I'm leaning toward "nay", especially with the already risky dress. Her updo though! OMG is that ever gorgeous!! Natalya's coord set was on point, as always. She gets yyyyyuuuuuge ;) Fierce points for choosing navy. The simple skirt with its wide matching band offsets the glittering, be-crystalled bodice flawlessly. That's how it's done, folks. I love her pretty gold headband too! It gives me early Lana del Rey vibes and I thnk Nattie could also have rocked some big-volume locks piled up around it a la Lana, had she chosen to go that route ;).

New WWE.com Photoshoot: Lasskickin' Champ

My slight preference for the Blue Brand made me one happy camper when the ladies of Smackdown got their very own championship, complete with a blue version of the oh so fabulous new women's belt. The second belt opens up a lot more opportunities for the gal who are busting their keisters out there to have some time in the spotlight. The first lady to stand in that spotlight is Becky Lynch and, as happy as I was to see the debut of the Smackdown belt, I was even happier to see Becky get a photoshoot to show off her new accessory with. Title 'shoots are notoriously troublesome: you have all the potential ennui of a gear 'shoot, with the added awkwardness of a heavy, whippy belt as a prop. It's enough to make a strong heart quail.  And that's not the only challenge Becky faced! The cobalt blue of the belt with her flame hair color made for a lot of strong colors in these snaps, which can be very tricky. I'm very impressed with how she handled it. Her dusty purple halter top bridges the two colors nicely. The high-neck, cutaway style looks fab on Becky and shows off her toned shoulders - shoulders are the new sexy! Her dual-tone shorts blend a metallic version of the same earthy amethyst with grayed olive sections and a dash of pale butter crochet at the sides. I was all over how cool those shorts were the instant I saw her debut them in the ring and I still love them. It's a great look: simple enough to be immediately assimilated, but complex enough to be interesting. Her geomteric print arm cover and reptile print leg covers add more texture, but subtly so due to their similarity of shading. This whole outfit coordinates wonderfully and the dusky hues stand out from the stronger colors many divas (superstars :)....you'll never really sell me on that term. Not that I don't like it, it's fantastic. It's just that my website happens to be DIVA-fierce, so I have this thing about these hard-wrestling chicks continuing to incorporate the word "diva". And while I'm on the subject, why exactly can a diva not also be an a$$kicker? Is that in fine print somewhere that I missed? The basic meaning - derived from the Latin base for "goddess" - is "a woman of outstanding talent", contrary to modern pejorative usages. By the above definition, I'd say a solid portion of the roster qualifies. I will now descend from my soapbox *leaps* *lands gracefully... in mudhole* and return to fashion). My abso fav thing about this set of snaps is Becky's posing. Girlfriend completely and utterly SLAYED them! I haven't seen gear/title pics with this much variety in ages. She smirks, she roars, she flashes devil horns, she loves on her belt, she soars in the air...just...d**n, this is such an awesome job!! Congrats, Becks! Long live the reign.

The Hunt: Charlotte's BCBG Sandals

Charlotte seems to have a trademark of wearing one particular awesome shoe with EVERYthing for a certain period of time. It's an interesting fashion philosophy and def one to keep in mind, especially if you're travelling! Her current 'til-death-do-us-part pair is the Jetts sandal from BCGB (most sadly sold out). I don't think I have ever had a harder time coming up with similars for a piece either. I mean, I am gooooooood with shoes, but Holy Nothingness, Batman! This  one was tough. Nevertheless, I love a challenge (thanks, Char! XO) and I persevered.  You benefit: behold! Four kind of similar/give you the vibe kind of footwears:
1. The Cayen Cutout Heels by Guess
2 .The Monica Block Heel Sandal by Topshop
3. The High Heel Open Toe Strappy Sandal from BCBG
4. The Gildie Flat from JustFab

FashionHap: End Aug '16 - WWE 2k17 Launch, Etc

The new WWE 2k17 was launched in August and several ladies were on hand to celebrate and looking fabulous! Sasha Banks wore this Kour' Vosieur Kyra Bandage dress, a modern assemblage of multi-directional stripes in white, black, ivory and nude. I love how the geometric vibe of the sheath still incorporates curves to accentuate the female form. I think this is a great choice by Sasha; it's comes closer in genre to connecting her Boss persona casual style than much of her previous red carpet style. She accessorizes with a nude leather wrap bracelet, a simple pendant necklace and ivory lace-up heels, which I love!  I still think she can slay her red carpet looks even more than this - perhaps skipping the pendant and choosing a bolder bracelet - but this is a fantastic effort and I'm thrilled to see Sasha head in this direction! Nice one, girl!
Maryse walked the carpet in a black envelope slip dress. She kept the look more casual by topping it with an olive duster. the topper is such an unusual look to see on a red carpet and I'm really jazzed about seeing Maryse wear it. She always has a way to throw a twist into an outfit and do something unique! We only get a peek at her sandals, but it's enough to see that they're fierce strappy bootie-sandals, which work flawlessly with this look. A silver cross a her wedding+engagment rings are her only jewels and the understatement is just right.  Lastly, don't you completely love the soft banana curls in her hair? So gorge!
Charlotte attended the event in a white hi-low mockneck dress with a fun mesh panel at the front of the bodice. Her current favorite black sandals (the BCBG Jetts) with their trendy metal detail finished the look. I'm loving her super-pretty side-braid: it walks the perfect line between formality and informality. Touches of gold in the form of two center-finger rings - on one of which she used a trendy intermediate digit placement - and her trademark watch brought just a hint of welcome flash to the look. I love how this outfit shows restraint and yet is still very modern. Lovely styling!
Lastly, a non WWE 2k17 look: Brie wore this pretty, summery maxi dress from MeghanLa. The mixed prints and tie shoulder details give this a typically Brie-esque boho feel. The palette of coral, burgundy, white and black is quite unusual and so beautiful! And if you're going to take a pic in a pretty maxu, what better place to do it than on a wooden swing, right?  With this outfit, it's still summer for one more day! :)
