September is bringing us a whole pastiche of looks, loves - everything from on-trend, to totally fierce to summer throwbacks! There's a little something for everyone, so let's get into it :)
Jojo has been nailing her fashion quite often lately. This outfit from her time in Manila is simple, but fierce, as she finishes off a ribbed playsuit with OTK boots. I really love the chain belt at her waist! This kind of focal-point is all you need to add that exclamation point to an otherwise minimal look. Lana is back to her trademark powersuit, after a lifetime of bridal outfits :). This bright cobalt is just glorious and the satin fabric is luxurious and sexy. She ramps that up by setting a matching lace bustier underneath it. She accessorizes with a spot on-trend choker. I'm also a fan of her high bun; she always looks so chic with her pulled back like this! Maria went a bit vintage with her Impact tv look. This coord set is done in palest blush, giving it a modern-nostalgic vibe. She enhanced that with t-strap pumps and then gave the look a soft glamour by adding what Chanel would have called "ropes of pearls". :) Maria's tv style often focuses on the sexy and glam, but we know from her 'shoots that she is comfortable with a wide variety of style genres. It's fabulous to see her explore some of those looks on tv! Mandy is keeping things all summmery with this cute combo. She paired a sweetheart-necklined bustier in a gorgeous watermelon red with high-waisted denim shorts. The color story is classic and the look is super-sexy! She keeps it on trend by rounding it off with lace-up sandals in a warm beige. Maryse arrived at a recent live event in this white Abyss By Abby dress with a geometric sheer inset at the shoulders. The detail makes this sheath very modern and Maryse runs with that vibe, topping it with a white motorcycle jacket by Zara and finishing it with gray ankle booties from Gucci. In addition to the clean-lined dress, a few particular choices make this look stand out. First is the squared toe design of her booties. With the pointy-toe having been fashion royalty for the last season or two, some new shapes are beginning to pop up. The squared is quite unusual. While I appreciate it's uniqueness, I'm not sure it is my favorite silhouette. How about you? Next, how about that orange lip shade? This hot and rare color functions flawlessly here in adding a real pop to this nearly-monchrome look. Lastly, she contrasts that bright lip and pure white canvas with dark nails, which adds another fun visual twist.

One thing that *always* gets me excited is when Divas take risks in photoshoots and push past boundaries. Anything that breaks new ground is high up on my list of loves. Photoshoots are the perfect forum to do this, because they're a method of communication in which the ladies are free from the conventional boundaries of tv and live events. That feeling of freedom is very much in evidence in Naomi’s latest set of snaps, where she explores the full realization of her Feel The Glow concept, something she has been slowing evolving for two years (can you imagine – two whole years?!) [See interview here]. I loved the sentiment of her “Feel The Glow” tees; it just felt like a cool concept – positive, confident and a little bit shiny – all good things! But this iteration takes the process one step further. Naomi seems to be imagining The Glow as a kind of visible cousin of The Force; it’s an internal energy that creates an electric aura. She’s brought the idea to life with glowing gear, along with light-emitting accessories, hair and make-up. Everything is alight! The blackout background highlights this dramatically, making the look a combination of 80’s holographic glam-rock visuals and 70’s disco sensibilities. It feels very now, very new and super fun! While the visual effect of this ‘shoot is straight up AAAAHHHMAZING, Nay-nay didn’t stop there. She used her poses and facials to convey not just the look of The Glow, but the feeling of The Glow and what it’s like to have that energy inside and surrounding you. She did an utterly fantastic job with this – her stances and expressions feel unencumbered and uplifted, as if she could achieve anything. The Glow is projected as a kind of personal power, wielded by a common-man superstar. It’s not often that a ‘shoot jumps off a screen like this and gives us such a dynamic and revolutionary visual aesthetic; it draws the observer into an alternate dimension of reality for just a moment – a kind of space age scenario where battle-tested self-assurance is made visible. You do not want to miss this set of snaps!
Sometimes it's incredibly refreshing to just keep fashion simple! Skip the color considerations, the contemplations of layers and just be chill. But still fab, tho! ;) Nikki nailed just such a look via Instagram when she was out and about earlier this month. Her pairing included an off-shoulder black top, and skinny jeans. She got that fall feeling into the outfit by completing it with knee-high black boots. The skinny (or slim or straight) denim is about as easy as it gets. Long-sleeved black top? I bet you've got one of those too. Go ahead and excavate a pair of black knee-boots from whatever hiding place you relegated them to last spring (you autumn-never-dies!-types who never put them away can ignore this :)). It's time, loves: the cooler weather and loss of light will no longer be denied. The key to making a super-easy look like this come off woke-up-like-this-stylish as opposed to woke-up-and-threw-whatever-on is to add a statement and/or trendy piece - something that brings the zing! Nikki did it by using a black top with a so-hot-right-now (omg I really need to stop hyphenating things!) cold-shoulder silhouette, which is a flawless choice. But a plain black top will do as well; just spike it with a bit of something. Consider a choker or a statement long pendant, tucking your top in an adding a bright or embellished belt, knotting a scarf at your neck or in your hair, or finishing the look with a chic hat (think a newsboy cap or a fedora). Life is complicated; fashion doesn't have to be! Here's to keeping it simple, Star Children! (that's my variation on the K.I.S.S principle. Yes, I left Gene Simmons out of it ;)). Celebrate the season with a hot pumpkin spice beverage and maybe try some super-edited silhouettes sometime soon!
We'll rave over this entire outfit from the Bellas' recent NY Daily News photoshoot, but for now let's focus on this fabulous skirt! With gold being the current "it" metallic, this Katz Pleated Sunburst maxi from Alice and Olivia (one of the twins' favorite go-to brands) is on trend and oh so glamorous! The wide-waistband piece is created in a silk blend and moves beautifully, thanks to the multitude of pleats. Wear it now, like Brie with a silk cami, dress it up with a velvet blazer or down with a neutral moto jacket later. The piece is available in this shade at shopbop, while aliceandolivia.com carries it in dark blue and silver.
Edit: *If this is exact is not at a price point you want to go to, take a look at this similar (the Grace maxi) from Guess, which is a bit more accessible. The gorgeous necklace Summer wore with this lovely blue sheath back in May :) (and which was the catalyst for an Inspiration Board) is actually done in gray pearls, giving it the versatility of sterling, but with that iridescent pearl sheen. The three-row design makes it a definite statement piece, while the spike-like drops bring a bit of edge in a playfully chic way! The piece is the Lorelai Pearl Collar by Loren Hope (check out her other pieces in her online store here). I love that they're made in the U.S! #Bonus :) The exact pearl collar is available online from Edmonton boutique Modern Sole (taxes & import duties incl in price, and free shipping) if you just have to have it! :) (I can completely see your point!). PS Note the extender that let's you customize fit and set the necklace to different lengths - it's always a good design to have!
I love blazers of every variety! And Stephanie seems to be on the same page. We've seen her wear a plethora of classic suit blazers of varying cut and stance. However, once of the most accessible pieces she's broken out lately is this version done in denim. If you're new to blazers, this kind of piece is a great place to break in. think of it as your classic denim jacket, but a bit more mature. Like the denim jacket, it can make dressy outfits more casual, in a more polished way. Stephanie tossed it over a pretty robin's egg blue sheath dress, a look I'm a huge fan of. It makes the dress much more versatile and cries it from spring/summer into fall. Since she was wearing it in August, Stephanie paired it with white sandals. To make the outfit more autumn-appropriate, I've envisioned it with sand suede ankle booties, which enhance the casual feel. In keeping with Steph's style sensibilities, accessorize with refined gold jewelry, accented with clear crystal (or diamonds if you're the Chief Brand Officer of a super-successful co., doing quite well in life, or just want to give yourself a treat ;)). Try something classic mixed with something with a bit of an edge, like spikes or ear crawlers ;). The denim blazer works just as well over a maxi dress as it does over a sheath. So, if you happen to have a pretty one hanging in your current closet, don't relegate it to the warm-weather-only section! Any multi-season fabric (cotton, cotton blends, silk, ponte, crepe) as well as lace pieces can transition easily to cooler months with the aid of a blazer. (Avoid specifically-summer fabrics like seersucker, gingham and linen though). I'm holding on to summer as long as possible, so I imagined completing this look with ankle-strap pumps :). If you're ready for full-on fall, pair it with flat tan or caramel knee boots instead. I hope you're inspired to try a denim blazer soon, loves! Happy fashioning!
Looking for one? Try this one in dark blue from Anne Klein via Belk, this one in black from Ralph Lauren via Lord and Taylor, or this med-dark blue one from NY & Co. Summer attended New York Fashion Week earlier this month and got to wear nearly as many fab looks as she saw ;). She kicked the week off with this blazer dress from Michelle Mason (available at shopbop.com). The double breasted styling nods at the current nautical/military trend. Summer finished the look with beige suede OTK's. I like the uniqueness and powerful feeling of this piece. The blonde beauty turned to John Paul Ataker for her next attire, a banded-pastel suit that combined a cropped, open jacket with slim pants. The white-at-first-glance effect gives way to the almost iridescent quality of the pastel rows, which is intriguing and beautiful. The satin fabric makes this suit quite formal, so Summer intelligently toned that down a bit by wearing a simple tee underneath. She paired the ensemble with nude pointy toe heels from Christian Louboutin. I'm a massive fan of her mid-height pony, as well as her rose-nude make-up palette; it keeps the whole styling soft from head to toe. Next up was a cutout sky blue suede dress from Nasty Gal (id by fashionofthedivas.tumblr.com) , accented with dramatic fringe. I was a bit doubtful when I first saw this piece, but it's grown on me. The movement created by the fringe is delightful and this color is gorgeous! The beige OTKs from day one finished off this look; the color, paired with the blue, creates an American-West-landscape vibe, even photographed in the heart of NYC. Summer saved her best outfits for last. She slayed day four in this mustard spaghetti-strapped cold-shoulder top, paired with wide-leg pants that have a subtle slit-detail at the front. Her choice of pointy-toe black pumps with this was flawless - they help elongate the leg and balance the width of her pants. Between the sexy off-shoulder styling and golden radiance of her top and the trendy silhouette of her pants, this outfit is a magnificent example of current sophistication. I adore everything about it! That being said, I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite between that and her final look, a Victorian-influenced lace-and-sheer confection of a blouse from Self Portrait (available in ivory at shopbop.com). This blouse is utterly gorgeous - the lace-up details at the shoulders, the sheer sleeves, the intricate lace at the bodice and hem: it's a modern romantic's statement piece that needs very little embellishment. Summer lets it stand out by pairing it with noticeably simple blue Rag and Bone skinny jeans and her nude Louboutin pumps. A lovely side braid and soft make-up are her only accessories. This look is heaven!
