Soooo woops... I guess I should have counted my collages a bit better because I missed one of the most important ones for this season: VELVET! (I know, you're thinking "Velvet Sky!"...and I am so with you :). Velvet Sky would indeed be an awesome trend. However, the one ruling Planet Fashion atm is velvet, the fabric. It's plush, it's luxurious, it's been away for awhile and now, it's having a moment. And that means, you either need to excavate the velvet you already have bured in your wardrobe, or you need to get you some, stat! :) Velvet is dressy by nature, so it can be used for formal events (do a Lana-like bustier atop a silk maxi skirt for a holiday party or winter wedding), or to dress down more casual pieces (consider a velvet blazer paired with distressed denim for a luxe-meets-laidback look). If you're looking to invest in velvet, camis, bustiers and other tops will be the easiest and most cost effective way to add some to your look. Chokers are another budget-friendly and totally on-trend option. If you're looking to invest a bit in a piece you'll have for awhile, go the blazer route. or be daring and try velvet shoes!

Several of the lady Superstars (and friends ;)) celebrated the beginning of tailgating season with an outdoor party...and some red, white and blue-themed fashion :). It looked like one heck of a good time! The shots captured the "anything goes as long as it's fun and/or funny" spirit of a tailgating adventure. The complexity of the scenery seemed to curtail the ladies' posing somewhat and made some snaps a bit less cohesive than might be ideal. However, in other shots, the mix worked well. This was a 'shoot idea we haven't seen recently, if ever; the closest I recall was a set of car wash photos. So, props to whoever(s) came up with the concept. Overall, I think it worked well and gave a bunch of ladies a chance to show off their personalities ...and their fashion sense. Speaking of which :)...
A. hairstyle can make a huge difference to an outfit : a sweet style can be a counterpoint to a masculine-tinged ensemble, a casual look can dress down a formal piece, a more sophisticated styling can elevate something casual. That last concept is one we've been seeing several ladies do lately: we saw Charlotte play with the concept in mid-Sept, while Maria worked with the same idea here. It's a fun one to explore, so. let's! Maria's summery short-sleeved dress with its imprinted saying on the front is about as casual as it gets. But she dressed the look up a bit by pairing it with a chic and complex up-do. I've re-envisioned the look slightly, changing the dress to a long-sleeved sheath that's more autumn-appropriate and choosing a wordless piece that’s a bit more versatile This type of dress will work fabulously in any neutral shade. Pair it with boots to keep the casual vibe. I went with leather knee boots, but ankle booties would be equally appropriate. Add tights underneath when the weather gets chillier. Next, the crucial factor: the up-do! This doesn’t have to be complicated (but it can be, if that’s your jazz ;)). A low bun with tendrils, or a French knot/French twist (trust me, it’s faster and easier to do than it looks!) says “chic” and “sophisticated” with very little time commitment – always a good thing, right? ;). Finish the look off with an on point choker or scarf knotted at your neck. Or skip the glimmer and just go minimal. Sometimes it’s fun to be fancy, so give your inner princess some room to sashay! Hope you give this look a try some time soon :). Happy fashioning!
This is going to be one FUUUUUN fall, fashionistas! There are a bunch of amazing themes and key pieces that are making waves in fashion this season. The overall vibe is laidback, but thoroughly stylish, with a little kick of attitude: romantic, but with a dark edge. Easygoing luxury is encouraged. Color tones are warm and restorative: jewel tones both punctuating and used as neutrals. Chunky heels are on point, as are OTK’s. Pointy toes and single soles are sticking around, but platforms are popping out of hiding too, as are other toe shapes, as designers experimented with round and square. And that’s just the beginning! Ready for more?
I admit – I hold on to summer as long as I can, but once the weather switches over, I get on board for autumn staples quickly! I don’t tend to do a lot of plaid in summer, but since I’m nearly always cold, I LOVE my plaid flannels in the winter. They’re pieces I can’t wait to excavate and add back into my wardrobe mix! Maria broke out some plaid in a super fun ‘shoot from her WWE days which can definitely serve as inspiration for an upcoming outfit. She paired pedal-pusher leggings with her red plaid top in a classic combination of red and black. She brings the fierce hard by completing the look with strappy pumps and a coordinating plaid newsboy cap. Autumn might be a touch cool for the pedal-pushers, depending on your location, but no prob: start this look with slim or straight denim or leggings instead. Top it with your favorite red (or red-included) plaid/flannel shirt. So far, so easy. Next, add a fun or quirky twist to the look. Wear a newsboy cap, like Maria, or a fedora, or add a cute cropped vest. Throw a scarf around your neck, try a statement belt or a bold necklace, such as a metal collar – smooth metal is stunning against the complexity of plaid. It’s all about whatever creates that perfect pop, the piece that puts the exclamation point on this casually stylish look. Complete the outfit with flat knee-high boots ( I especially love this pairing with leggings – it has an off-duty fashion-blogger feel), chunky-heeled ankle boots for laidback chic or pointy-toe pumps for a Maria-esque shot of fierceness.
Mandy showed off this straightforward look a few weeks ago and it nails that curated fall flawless that makes go weak in the knees. The outfit has a minimalist overall in terms of silhouette and color choices, but delivers big impact through her use of one special statement piece: those burgundy suede OTK’s. Burgundy is all over fashion right now and it’s an amazing shade for fall, marrying the warmth of red with the darkness of black for a color that’s both luxurious and cozy. It pairs well with most jewel tones, as well as with neutrals, as Mandy has done here. Make her outfit cool-weather-ready by going with a long-sleeved tee or sweater if your current weather forecast indicates it :). Feel free to do ivory or beige instead of icy white; I gravitate toward warmer neutrals in the colder months. If you own burgundy boots, slide them over your favorite black skinnies and ..poof!...you’re fabulous. Then again, maybe you’re like me and feel that burgundy boots – especially OTK boots – are a bit bold for your personal style. I also think they have somewhat of a limited shelf life and could look dated in a few years, something to keep in mind if you’re considering investing in a pair. To keep this same theme with more versatile piece, swap to burgundy denim (or corduroy) on the bottom. In a pant, burgundy is classic enough to be less risky and well worth investing in, even if your personal style is more sedate than Mandy’s dramatic flair. Finish with black OTK’s for that requisite “pop!”. (Note: if you go with cords, choose leather boots over suede as the textures of suede and corduroy will be visually quite similar, whereas the smooth leather will contrast nicely.). Finish off with a fierce and/or chic accessory: an on-trend saddle bag or star earrings. Becky visited a children’s hospital in Philadelphia last month and I was relieved to see she went with a new look ;). This strappy blush top is a wonderful combination of sweetness and sexiness. This color also works brilliantly with her hair. It’s tough to wear pink and shades of red with red hair, but this mauve-tinted piece doesn’t clash at all. She paired the cami with gray biker jeans. This combination works really well; it’s a fantastic blend of flirty-ness and attitude.
Charlotte kept with theme of black for her tv-style, this time done in a black cord set. She topped the trendy look with her trademark motorcycle jacket and finished it with her current-fave BCBG Jetts heels. This outfit has an edited street-style sophistication which is appealing, and she brings an additional dimension to it by her gorgeous crown-like braid. Her fancier hairstyle elevates this casually fierce look. Can you get any more autumn-ier than this outfit from Cathy? She pairs a bittersweet orange high-necked mini dress with gray suede OTK boots. The velvety texture of her footwear plays nicely against the unusual – and standout! – color of this dress. The rich pumpkin shade is a flawless choice for this time of year. Add a slim silver bangle and bam: done…and fab! Brie showed off this magnificent Free People dress. The design is typical of their many gorgeous pieces – diaphanous layers, a bit of sparkle, daring silhouettes, all combined for that wild-hearted sexiness that they smash time and again. Brie has long been a fan of their offerings and it’s not hard to see why. If you’re looking for femme or bohemian-flavored statement pieces, they are worth checking out! A slim gold layered necklace and minimalist metallic sandals would be all you need to finish this look. |
