I’m practically still living on the high from this year’s Royal Rumble. After the thrill of the incredible performances from the current crop of girls, there were the chills and shivers of all the returns: the Bellas! Beth! And the DoD reunion! The feeeeeeeels! Barbie! I caught my breath when Michelle ran in – I never thought I would see her wrestle again! I was back to the early days of my fandom in a heartbeat. It was 2010 and everything was flawless and filled with real talk and FIERCENESS. Omg. And Trish! And Lita slaying! And when Vickie “excuse me”d…I lost it. Like, gone. Brb. Annnddd. The Big Dub did not disappoint with this one. It took me some time to chill a smidge and savor it all. And then, there was the plethora if ring gear to examine and rave over :)…which I shall now do, in print. Are you ready to rrrrrrrruuuuuumble?
The Glamazon looked as if she last stepped out of a ring just yesterday in this black and white rendition of her trademark gear. While Beth went through a few variations of her gear (including a skirted version, several different side cutouts and an iteration or two with lace-up pants), this is the style that seems synonymous with her. I love this perfect recreation, right down to her trademark headpiece and the in-flight phoenix. The color scheme accents the cool, powerful an practical nature of the design. It has no intention of being sexy…and that’s sexy as h**l! You would be well within the boundary of smart logic to cower in fear at the entrance of the Glamazon…especially when it became apparent that her skill set was 100% intact… Unless, of course, you are Natalya :). The Divas of Destruction sharing a hug in the center of the ring was a standout of the many special moments of this inaugural Rumble. Nattie wore a an iteration of the one-piece that has become her signature look. This one combined the striping and be-crystalled “shield” front we’ve seen previously with additional pink piping and crystals (of course ;)). Set on a latex backdrop, the look is sleek, but glamorous and , like Beth’s gear, practical, despite its fierceness and opulence. While I can’t help but have favorites among the many variations of this gear, there’s no doubt that this series represents Nattie at her absolute ring-fashion best, melding haute couture with performance wear in an unforgettable way. Bayley really didn’t have to do much to get me to adore her gear beside wear it in yellow :) (#FavoriteColorSyndrome). That said, I’m in for her new addition of fringe on her pants. Surprising, no? True, it’s a bit crazy from a fashion standpoint, but the movement is creates is super cool and after the multitude of patterns and graphics on her previous looks, this feels cleaner and lets me appreciate the details and all that free-spirited color – which comes off effervescent and exciting now that it has chance to shine. I love the sprinkling of stars over her top and boots –it’s perfect pattern for her, on trend but also fitting for her taste and style. All of this in combination easily makes this set my current favorite of all her gear outfits!

I’ve never kept my love for shoes anything close to a secret. Whenever the Superstars (*whispers Diiiiivvvaaaaassss*) wear some incredible pairs, I go wild – especially if they’re designer because, face it, a little vicarious expensive-stiletto enjoyment never hurt anyone. We tend to see a lot of Louboutins from our fellow Superstar shoe-lovers. We see a good bit of Giuseppe Zanotti, too. And Louis Vuitton. And Stuart Weitzman. And I rave over all of them because…shoes! Then again, there are tonssss of amazing designers outside of the above Quad Squad that I totally wouldn’t mind seeing the ladies get their heels in. For instance? Oh, I was so hoping you’d ask! Come share my little fashion fantasy :)
Yes, I am reviewing October fashion. I know, I know.
It was only a matter of time until Barbie explored the latex trend! She dabbled in the fabric with this LBD from House of CB for an October event. The simplicity of this dress is a perfect choice – we don’t see the kind of envelope-pushing cuts Barbie often reaches for. Here, the sensuality all comes from the fabric and, with a daring material like this, it’s exactly the right way to go. Black ankle strap heels complete the look, along with an eye-catching make-up choice: a super-pale nude lip that nearly matches Barbie’s skin tone. While it makes me stop and take notice, I think I would have preferred something a touch warmer – a dusty cinnabar or quartz. Next up is a flowing romper from Planet Blue. The color pairing of camel and black and the looser cut of this piece combine to give it a much more chic and sophisticated feel than your standard version. Barbie adds a shot of fierce with her suede OTK boots and oversized sunnies and look comes together with the kind of unstudied, tantalizing style that is her trademark. From there, she swung into the relaxed modernity of a denim on denim pairing, utilizing J Brand denim. A House of CB bodysuit in olive provided the underlayer, while suede peeptoe OTKs from Pretty Little Thing gave the look some edge. I like the mix of soft neutrals in this outfit. I’d love an embellished bag here to tie everything together! While it’s not really an “outfit” per se, I couldn’t resist sharing this snap from Barbie which featured this show-stopping statement necklace from For The Stars Fashion House, a custom creator of one-of-a-kind designs. With layers of gold chains and crystals, this piece is ahhhhMAYzing! Barbie got the full effect out of it by pairing it with nude bikini bottoms – doesn’t she look like a divine siren, rising up out of the sea?! -, but I’d be interested to see it tried atop a minimalist LBD. She got her grunge on with this combo of a cropped boxy sweatshirt and white denim. I’m not generally a fan of shorts cut to reveal the pockets, as it tends to look messy, but here, it fits the bored-punk theme so well that I’m breaking my rule :). Barbie completed the look with a black and white plaid shirt knotted at her waist on true 90’s style. I love the way it pulls the whole look together! Becky kicked off August with this super-chill look, which topped a simple tee and jeans with a floral bomber jacket. I’m so in love with her choice to go with a floral piece here! Not only is it spot on trend, but it elevates the look to something more interesting than a more laidback, classic, monotone bomber would have. The pretty, dynamic print adds vibrancy to the style statement. As described in the Inspiration Board with this look, a pair of black booties is all that’s needed to complete this outfit. Becks was equally casual and cool in her look for visiting the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, where she paired a lace-bodice tee with sporty detailing and flared blue denim. The tee is a fab choice – a unique, statement piece that still laidback. The spot on-trend flared jeans pick up the blue piping in her top, pulling the look together. This outfit is made to finished with sneakers: red, white, bright blue or a metallic.
A number of the Lady Superstars (DIVAS! Had to get that in there. Sorry not sorry ;)) paid tribute to D-Generation X (DX for short) for the stables' 20th anniversary in a recent photoshoot for WWE.com. If you're a new WWE fan, it might be hard to feel the impact DX had, but they were 100% awesome and hilarious and you need to check out some of their old skits on youtube. Also their wrestling :). DX went through various configurations, but it's anchor members were Triple H and Shawn Michaels, so they're the two I think of when anyone mentions DX. And that's not all I think of -in addition to the innuendo-laden humor, the duo created several infamous catchphrases and gestures ("Let's get ready to s**k it!", "If you're not down with that, I've got two words for ya: s**k it!", the crotch chop, the crossed-arm 'X'). The ladies have paid accurate homage to many of them, including Naomi doing the glow-stick version of the X and Bayley doing the crossed-arm symbol. Charlotte and Becky put their own spin on the iconic duo's repertoire, re-styling it as Tea-Generation X, complete with sipping hand gestures. It should be silly, but it comes off as quite cute and an appropriate homage to the kind of terrible pun Shawn and Trips loved and utilized habitually. Sasha wins Fierce points for nailing Shawn's signature smug stance, while Charlotte gets a ladle-full for re-creating the duo's trademark flex. The dress code is 100% DX-approved: it's all variations of DX shirts (tees, tanks and cut-up muscle tops) paired with denim (Naomi went for killer side-lace-up shorts, Becky and Charlotte for full-length styles, all in classic blue wash) or ring gear (Sasha chose her ivory, black and gold shorts, while Bayley went for her cerulean, baby pink and gold pants). The ladies did an awesome job of capturing the wise-cracking, in-your-face attitude of WWE's somewhat smarmy, but incredibly successful degnerate duo! Definitely go check it out. And if you're not down with that...well, I've got two words for ya: sip it! (or stick it...or style it...or..heck I could do this all day :))
First, I apologize for the extreme tardiness of this review...and I take back every griping thing I ever said about Joey Styles. Then again, he gets paid to get the pics up and I don't earn zip from this labor of love I fit in around life, animals and a real job. So, actually, I don't take back anything I said about him after all :). Second, I'm laughing at myself as I'm posting this review. You would never believe how many times I've re-done the collages because my placements keep changing as I analyze and weight the looks. This is HARD, babes! Every year, so many ladies come out here and slay and somehow I have to distill it all into some kind of order. It's cray! And it's also fun. And I'm usually hella proud of the list when I finally get done, probably because I fight so hard to make it accurate and justify each placing. As always, I feel the need to mention that I madly adore each of these divas and root for all of them to rock the ravishing red lane of fame. I love it every time they do! That being said...
And there were still more great looks from the Rumble!
Bayley gets serious props for the main shade of her gear, a fabulous mint green that we don't see very often in WWE. With the bubblegum pink and lemon yellow graphic print additions, it's like an ice cream shop you can wear! :) Sometimes Bay's gear can get a little too busy for my taste, but she shows just enough restraint here to make this gear appealing. The front lace-up detail is one of my favorite features. I'm also loving her on-trend and so-right-for-her sparkly bomber - super cute! I could probably survive without the colorful fringe, but it does bring even mooooore color to her look :) and, more importantly, some really fun movement! Charlotte's cape had the Black Swan vibe going on again, this time with a halo-like hood framing her face. The patterned lining coordinated with her gear flawlessly. Her outerwear is simply incredible! And her ringwear follows suit; this variation was done in an entrancing ice blue, set off with quantities of glistening crystals set in an almost floral-like pattern. The icy shimmer received a bit of grounding from the black piping - a perfect touch which gave a nice edge to the look, as well as coordinating with her magnificent cape. |
