You know that weird, blank space between the end of the holiday season and spring, where everything is blah? Let’s see if we can fill it with fashion! ;) I have a lot…like A. LOT….of catching up to do. So, let’s see if I can get it all jammed in. Are ya with me?
Eva can really nail certain looks and this simple gray dress fits that category. The gray mélange fabric is sleek, yet not super-formal, due to the visual texture. She pairs the look with black pumps and finishes it with a stunning, formal up-do, which adds an extra bit of polish that make sit appropriate for a party or an evening dinner date. I’m pretty sure you all know how I feel about yellow anything, even yellow used in combination. Alicia has used this incredible powder blue + banana yellow combo in her gear before, but I still have to take a moment to stop call it out now. I LOVE it! The yellow adds a fabulous spike of sunshine to the cool blue. I love the design of this gear anyway – the complex pairing of mesh and sheer and satin and sexy and modern: it’s just amazzzzzzing. But when Foxy does it with a pinch of yellow, well, I’m in seventh heaven. *happy, savoring sigh* Speaking of fun gear, this set from Bayley reflects the metamorphosis she’s been in the process of lately. It’s an excellent direction to be going in, as it combines the lighthearted effervescence of her previous iterations with a touch of more mature restraint. The end result is pairings that reflect her goofy, joyous persona, while still being aesthetically pleasing. This particular combo spikes red and cobalt with black and silver. The look is clean and cool and the overall fish-scale patterning ties the whole thing together. Setting the stars above that pattern makes them pop out, putting special focus on them. This is such a great example of how well thought-out complex gear needs to be, in determining colors, placements and harmonies. This one is a gem! From gear, we make an about-face to this lovely, floaty gown from Maria, worn for he sister’s wedding. We don’t often see Maria in a piece as minimal as this – her intrinsic style sense is much more dramatic and glamorous, but she looks equally gorgeous in this simple silhouette. I’m also loving this soft blush color on her. The whole look is sweet and feminine, and I’m really loving how well it works on her! Speaking of things we don’t often see, how about houndstooth pants from Maryse? I have to say, I wouldn’t have selected anything as bold as this and made the prediction that she would wear it. An attention-getting pattern like this can be tricky to style. Maryse (as I would definitely predict) hit on one of the ways that works: keep everything else simple and neutral and let the strong statement come solely form the pants. She does so by pairing them with a graphic sweatshirt and beanie, all in predominantly black, and rounding things off with black OTK boots. The whole combo works nicely. I enjoy a surprising fashion choice when it’s styled well. Props to Maryse for pulling this off! Her next look, for the STARS Gala at Universal Studios, is much more in keeping with what we know of her fashion: forward-looking and chic! This white satin tuxedo dress is by BCBG Max Azria. Her pointy toe suede pumps in nude are Louboutin. Versace designed her metallic clutch. This look is flawless! It hits all the right notes with its lightness, its formality and its subtle edginess. It’s noteworthy to me that Maryse mentions she styled it herself, something she does for many events. While some of the ladies have switched to employing a professional stylist for certain occasions, Maryse puts her own sensibilities out there, in much the same way as Blake lively. Both ladies get mad respect form me for that, even more so because their choices are so consistently excellent.

WWE has done it again! They have foisted upon my fashion sensibilities yet another year of these truly reprehensible Christmas sweaters! And you all get to hear me cringe, writhe and moan yet again. I keep hoping that one of these years they'll make this seemingly obligatory photoshoot just head shots, but alas, this year is not the year. I consider it a dereliction of duty to not at least look at what I'm reviewing, so I did steel myself, do some deep breathing exercises and gaze...as briefly as possible. I admit that outside of the horror of the garments themselves, there are aspects to enjoy (yes, I'm an optimist :)). The ladies made creditable attempts at expressing happiness and playfulness - enough to make the fashion in these snaps worth enduring. Alexa is suitably seductive, Bayley engagingly effervescent, Naomi appreciably alluring. In addition, her glowing lime hair makes a wonderful and modern color combo, when paired with the more traditional crimson and kelly tones of her sweater.
We are going blonde on diva-fierce! No hair dye required ;) - just a roundup of fabulous style from blonde after blonde. We did manage to sneak in a brunette and a redhead too :)
Noelle ...edit: woops I already covered this look a couple posts back. Guess this is what happens when I'm exhausted and don't clean up files.:p I said almost the same thing last time too...at least I'm consistent :) #GraspingAtStraws Speaking of Charlotte, she debuted a new color variant of her gear: steel gray with orange piping. While I think the blue-tinged shades suit her particularly well, I really enjoy this unusual combination of shades. Orange is fairly rare in the land of diva color choices and pairing it with cool steel gray - which really sets off the vibrancy of the orange trim - is still more unique. I nearly always dole out props for the unexpected, and Char definitely earns herself some here! Lana showed off her casual side as she wore this olive green t-shirt dress to a pre-Clash Of Champions signing event for the new WWE Encyclopedia. She gave this look a slightly boho vibe by doing her hair in a pair of side braids. An oh-so-trendy choker completed the look nicely. I can easily imagine black or caramel ankle booties being the footwear of choice for this look. Alexa caught my eye with this super cute outfit - a graphic tee (reading "Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed") paired with a scallop-hemmed A-line skirt. She topped the whole thing with a cropped leather jacket. I'm ttly on board for her addition of a wide waist belt for a hint of metallic flash; it brings in just the pop that the outfit needed. Black tights and mid-calf leather boots rounded off the ensemble. She reinforced the sugar-coated punk vibe with a high ponytail - a look I love! So, burgundy OTKs are definitely a thing! We saw them on Mandy, we've seen them on several prominent fashion bloggers and now, we're seeing them on Maryse, which seals the deal. When Maryse signs on, it's officially a trend. She let hers be the statement portion of a classic LBD. A cropped black military jacket added a touch of warmth...and fierceness! The simplicity - with a dash of attitude- of this look is very appealing. I would absolutely wear this outfit! Naturally, she also needed a pair of shades - the better to dodge the paparazzi, my dear! ;) Maria’s inner beast? Oh that creature’s a sexy thang for sure! And what mythological beats was sexier than the sultry, come-hither sirens who lounged on sharp rocks at beach-side and lured sailors into wreckage with their songs? I’m sure many a man (and likely a number of women ;)) have been lured into dangerous territory by Maria. If you inner beast shares that talent for temptation, dress her up for Halloween in a ruffled skirt (or use a dark neutral skirt or pair of pants and add a sparkling net hip shawl), paired with a glittering top. Try a sequin bikini, bra top or cami, or go for something with feathers (the sirens of legend were part bird). You could also bring the winged concept in with a feathered headband or earrings. Alternatively, try a seashell crown and/or pendant. Stay with cool shades: blue-greens, blues and purples, accented with touches of sandy beige or taupe. Finish the look with (what else?) flip flops :)
SummerSlam week is always a great week for fashion, nearly rivaling Wrestlemania. This year, we got a taste of everything from boho to Black Swan looks.
The former is represented by Brie (shocking, right? ;)) as she donned this blue mini dress with bell sleeves and a crocheted hem. The lace-up detailing at the front adds a dash of sassy modernity to this carefree piece. She paired it with a camel leather bag and white strappy platforms. It's a simple combination that works perfectly. I also love how cute her new, shorter hairstyle looks here! We also got a look at Carmella's out-of-the-ring style, as she visited the One World Observatory. She combined a sleeveless, high-neck ribbed top in toasted almond with dark floral shorts. Caramel lace-up sandals finished the outfit. I'm digging everything about this look...right up until the shoes. And here's why: the golden warmth of the caramel is gorgeous, but it forms a big contrast with the cool tone of her top. If that color play was the raison d'etre of her look, I could ttly swing with it, but there's more going on with that floral print. It makes her shoes look like something of a mis-match. I think I'd have gone with black sandals instead - same style, same everything, just a color swap. But I don't worry about Carmella. Girlfriend's got fashion sense and I can' t wait to see her intriguing style! Bayley has always been about bright colors and fun, whimsical accents in her gear. When she first debuted, it was all a bit wild on the eyes, but she's been working on staying true to her bouncy self, while creating a more cohesive visual and I like the results! This gear incorporates purple holograph fabric, edged with dark teal metallic and some funky graphics at the sides. I love the way this ensemble fits her lighthearted personality, but still feels harmonic. Nice one, Bayls! Charlotte appeared on Good Morning America to promote SummerSlam and she did so in this vibrant coral dress. The simple, sleeveless fit-and-flare silhouette let's the color do all the talking and this glorious melon shade has plenty to say! It looks amazing on Char, with her blonde hair and tanned skin. She paired it with her current fave BCBG Jetts heels, her trademark watch, a few band rings with lower digit placement for a trendy nod and stud earrings for a touch extra flash. Her black sandals ground the look, while her touches of jewelry embellish this dress, without overwhelming. It's a flawless example of doing style just right - just enough twists, just enough pizzazz, just the right color, just enough editing. Brava. And about that Black Swan reference? That's immediately what came to mind when I saw Charlotte's SummerSlam gear. It's an interesting contradiction that she's gone with bright colors all through the spring and now, here, in the heart of summer, chooses to go dark. Not expecting that :)...but that just makes me love it more! And I do love this gear! All the glamour and bedazzlement take on an almost surreal mysteriousness when set against these mesmerizing dark tones, while the tiny hints of deep purple whisper of royalty. I'm sure it's the feathers that make me think of the Black Swan and while so many of them - especially in addition to all the sparkle - could seem ostentatious, the noir palette works as a flawless counterbalance, softening their effect into one of graceful, delicate texture. It's stunning! The Bellas have been tearing it up with photoshoots lately! They've given us BTS snaps from the latest, one done for an un-named mag and one for for Pacific San Diego in support of the soon-to-debut Total Bellas series. For the first, Brie looks ultra chic in a black ruffled halter top, paired with an asymmetrical hemlined midi skirt. The look finishes with a simple pair of strappy sandals - a perfect foil to the varied and complex lines of the skirt and top. I love the modern-femme vibe of this look! Nikki wears a classic tea length sheath in an entrancing shade of mallard blue that matches Brie's skirt. Nikki's look is completed by black platform peeptoe pumps. The simplicity of Nikki's outfit contrasts nicely with Brie's, but the two are tied together by the color, which looks fantastic in the shot, where the two walk away from a helicopter, making me think of them as two very seductive spies ;). The Pacific San Diego 'shoot's first look involves two navy lace dresses. Nikki's McQ lace mini gets a modern twist from the exposed zipper, while Brie's Chloe shift is accented with lace at the edges, giving it a wonderful, soft elegance. Her look is completed by white strappy heels from Giuseppe Zanotti, while Nikki's finishes with pointy-toe platform pumps (the St. Laurent Janis). It's fun to see the super-trendy pointy toe pump done as a platform, instead of the more common single sole! We also get a peek at Brie's next combo- a flowy, feminine white blouse paired with black crochet shorts (both from Maje) . Those two pieces are as classic as it gets - and have a wonderful combination of textures, but Brie also throws a couple of cool spins into the styling via her black fedora, massive statement ring and...black pointy toe ankle booties (from Valentino). I always love when the ladies try the unexpected and this pairing has a fab modern-boho-quirky vibe. Nikki's next ensemble is a pale gray dress coat that she tosses over a black blouse from Maje and black leather shorts. As with Brie's look, the textural pairing is fantastic - flowy silk with smooth, structured leather and cozy wool (props to 'shoot stylist Kristi Brooks <3). We got just a hint of Look 3 from both ladies. Nikki's is a black slipdress with floral print added at the skirt for a femme-meets-fatale vibe. Minimal strappy sandals (The Ted Baker Rynne) again complete this pairing. Brie's outfit includes a white lace camisole from Maje, paired with Ted Baker Ruthee floral shorts and topped with a gorgeous lilac cape - that color is so amazing! We only seem to see it in bits and whispers in fashion (remember Mila Kunis' heavenly Elie Saab dress at the 2011 Oscars? *heart eyes*), but I go head-over-stilettos for it every time! I'm a massive fan of how Brie's daring plum suede ankle booties bring out the luscious fruitiness of the color. Sounds like I'm describing a fine wine. How fitting ;)...and also ...wine. What an excellent idea! If you're swooning over those boots, they're the Ridley from Rebecca Minkoff.
Nikki's next outfit is a monochromatic coord set from A.L.C. with a subtle pattern and fringe at the hem of the top. Those two details, along with the lovely color, make this set incredibly attractive. Nikki spikes it with a matching wide-brimmed hat and suede pointy-toe pumps (the Saviy from Ted Baker). These choices, along with the hue, texture and movement of the piece help monochrome be far from bland! Brie's set by Sandro is done in a stylized floral with a modern-retro vibe. I love the fitted-but-forgiving cut. I'm also a fan of the magnificent mix of reds, oxblood and cerulean - so luxe! But my favorite aspect of the look is her choice to pair it with fierce strappy suede heels (by Dior, the Petale) in plum. It's a flawless example of mixing, without matching. The reds, spiked with blue, create a purple-ish cast, so even though it's only alluded to in the print, the plum shade coordinates gloriously. It's a sophisticated and brilliant use of color! Check out the interview HERE for all the pics and info! It looks like the Big Dub intended this set to be a play on the idea of X-Men, timed to the release of the new movie. They have done themed shoots the last few years - like, remember when the Divas all did 'shoots in the costume of a legendary superstar? I am beginning to develop a theory that movies are the theme for this year. So, I'm putting that out there. I have mixed feelings about this genre of photo gallery. I appreciate the artistry of it and the look that's coming through is really cool visually and quite unique. On the flip side, though, it basically feels like a digitally modified version of an existing photo, as if they took an outtake from a previous 'shoot and went to town with Photoshop. So, it feels a smidge staid, even though it looks amazing. Also, it doesn't explore - or even allow us to see- much fashion. So, from a fashion blogger's viewpoint, it's somewhat frustrating.
That being said, Sasha's look with the added lightning bolts comes out really well. One of my favorite aspects is getting to visualize her with pink hair! I've been slowly coming to the idea that her red might benefit from a switch-up. Perhaps pink is the way to go :). I could probably get behind sun yellow too. I'm sure you're shocked by that ;)...but it looks kinda fab in my mind's eye. Anyway, *slaps self back to reality and out of mind's eye* Paige's spherically swirling power also has a really cool look to it. The dark-light contrasts bring in a lot of depth and a hyper-reality vibe. I applaud her powerful, mega-smoky eye look. I might have preferred something a bit more exotic for her lips - an ice blue or metallic gold. Why not push the envelope - it is a superhero set, after all :) |
