A little more Brandi love kicks off this FashionHap, starting with this incredible velvet off-the-shoulder dress. The color is similar to the lace coord set I was raving over last time, with similar stunning-ness (did Brie just make up a word again? Most likely.) This silhouette is incredibly elegant and, despite being totally ‘right now’, it also has a timeless quality – in ten years, it will be just as appropriate. Brandi completed the look with nude pumps for a more formal interpretation, but you could just as easily style this piece with black booties and a leather jacket draped over your shoulders for a casual look. Her next outfit showcases a lovely mix of elements. It starts with an apparently simple navy dress – until you get down to the cool architectural detail of the asymmetric hemline. Pointy-toe ankle booties in black suede add a shot of fierceness. Top this with a black trench and you have power dressing at its finest. Instead, Brandi threw a curve ball and added a classic tote - in neon candy pink! This effervescent, joyous color lightens the mood of the look dramatically. Instead of power and seriousness, it becomes about sophistication and FASHION. I love how this one choice makes such a tremendous impact on the statement the look makes! From there, she gives us a chic, casual look that channels a bit fo the 70’s, spun up with a bit of now. She pairs a floral bell-sleeved crop top with a denim mini skirt and completes the look with beige suede OTK’s. While her top feels feminine and nostalgic, the other two pieces modernize the look and give it and edge. To keep the 70’s vibe, this could be styled with a midi A-line denim piece.
Brooke unleashed her rock-star side with this night-out ensemble. A graphic tee with an eye-catching cut-out underlies a classic denim jacket and pocket-revealing cut-off jean shorts. And there’s no slowing down – she kept the fierce raging by finishing the look with suede OTKs. Everything about this combination is grunge-punk attitude! Her statement earrings (and I love that she did her hair in a ponytail so we really get to see them!) and cuff bracelets add a touch of shine and glam. It’s so much fun seeing Brooke go hard on a look like this -she does it so well! Carmella instagrammed this super cool pairing of a star printed romper from Love Culture with mid-calf booties. Mid-calf can be a tricky height to utilize, but they work really well here because there’s plenty of space between the top of the bot and the hem of the romper. I love the way they bring attitude and a street vibe to the fashion vibes of this star print. I can be in or out on these kinds of patterns, but this is a particularly pretty rendition! The wide choker is the perfect complement to complete the look.

I can’t believe 2017 is almost over! But, here we are and it’s time to reminisce and re-savor (prob not a word, but whatevs) the best, coolest, most fabulous looks that represented the major directions fashion took this year. Get comfy, style lovers! :)
Brie and Nikki attended the Teen Choice Awards in mid-August sporting similar, but not the same, maxi slip dresses. I always love when they do this kind of look that coordinates, but also lets each of them reveal their individuality. Nikki’s nude dress is from Alice and Olivia. She added a wide dark choker and completed the look with pale nude heels. Despite the leg-lengthening effect of the nude, I think I might have preferred black strappy heels here to tie in with her necklace. Brie’s dress and black platform ankle strap heels are from Planet Blue. I love the steel gray shade of this piece! It has the sophistication of black without being black and it feels more unique. I also love the way she combined a black choker with a gold pendant for a layered jewelry look. It adds interest to the minimalist dress and a welcome hint of shine. The twins’ next event was at the Curve Expo, promoting BirdeeBee. Nikki paired a black tee with white split-leg pants. This is the 100% right away to do the split leg! By stopping at mid-calf, the split is intriguing without being ridiculous and it’s appropriate for a promotional event such as this. She finished the look with the Planet Blue sandals worn by Brie to the Kids’ Choice Awards. I often find the center-parted hairstyle harsh, but I really love the way it looks here on Nikki – sleek and fierce! Brie chose a black, wide-leg jumpsuit for the event. It’s not ground-breaking, but it is polished and professional. She wisely added a dose of drama with her studded sandals and the whole look is quietly chic.
I don’t usually go wild over sunglasses, but these metallic-tipped cat-eye shades from Fendi that Nikki is wearing are just too cool not to call out! Add a red lip, red nails and red wine…what else does a fashionable girl need? :) Summer was channeling her inner Carmella in this Insta-snap with buddy Stella Kae. She paired a leopard print dress from Show Me Your Mumu with black combat boots. This whole look has an untamed, derriere-kicking attitude to it which is super fun! I’m a huge fan of her leather newsboy cap as well – it just ladles on extra attitude! She’s also selling me on that lip purse – something I would never dream of actually owning , but I love the kick of red it adds to this look. So, when are these two ladies starting a fashion blog? Brandi spent the end of summer showcasing a number of great looks on her blog, Being Brandi Rhodes. Among them was this spot on-trend off-the-shoulder LBD with split sleeves. I love how the split creates a modern take on the bell sleeve in this piece! I’m also a huge fan of the way Brandi added a spark to the look with a multi-colored statement necklace – it makes such a fab twist on black monochrome and enlivens the look. A black tote and peep-toe wedge mules round out the outfit. Next, we get to see her casual side as she pairs a knot-detailed knit tunic in a dusty terra-cotta shade with distressed gray denim. The detail on this tunic is super fun and gives the whole outfit a big punch. Brandi adds even more playfulness with her fur-pom-pom-topped sneakers! I love the additional texture, as well as the lighthearted vibe. She finishes the look with a pair of bangles and a printed bag from Louis Vuitton. I find this choice of bag so interesting because I wouldn’t generally think of pairing brown with gray and muted coral tones. If you look closely though, the bag has mixed tones in the leather: gold-beige and burgundy, in addition to the brand’s classic coffee brown. The redder tone ties the bag into the look nicely and I’m really intrigued by the way the color play works in a subtle and sophisticated way. Brandi’s next outfit is a red maxi dress, sprinkled with white stars. It’s a classic summer silhouette, with the spaghetti straps and v-neckline, done in an of-the-moment print. It feels quite fresh and carefree and I’m digging the Americana vibes. I also ADORE this bag she’s carrying. In my head, I call it her “birdcage bag” because it reminds me of a vintage birdcage, but it’s actually one of Cult Gaia’s Ark bags. Brandi’s been a huge fan of it all summer and I’m 100% on board. It’s functional, distinctive and versatile and the light, airy design is perfect for summertime!
Brie took NYC by storm in this gorgeous Self-Portrait dress – don’t you just love the frothy lace and flowing sleeves? All that sweetness is tempered by the black chevron stripes; the structured black solidity grounds the look flawlessly. Brie played that up by completing the outfit with black strappy platform sandals (these appear to be a variant of the Parrow x Jimmy Choo, but I can’t confirm that at this time). She chose another Self-Portrait dress for her next day in New York, this time one with a cold-shoulder detail and ruffles on the sleeves. The simpler material lends a more architectural vibe to this piece, as compared to the lace, but I love it’s dramatic, high-fashion aesthetic, which is enhanced by the ivory and black color scheme. Brie again finishes the look with strappy sandals – the Lang by Jimmy Choo. This time, she chose blush instead of black. I like the warmth of the dusty pink, but I also kind of miss the punchy exclamation point of the black. After all the months of waiting, BirdieBee is finally here, open and ready to be shopped! Woot woot! First and foremost, congratulations to Brie and Nikki on reaching this milestone. They’ve put a lot of time, energy and thought into this, so it’s wonderful to see it come to fruition. Next, this is not everything they intend to offer. Think of it as a capsule collection. Lots of new items are still coming in and extended sizes will be debuting early next year. I like that they opened with a variety of different items: tees, sweaters and activewear, in addition to the intimates that seemed to be the original focus of the line. They also get props for awareness of fabrics: the workout gear is done in quick-drying nylon blend, while the intimates are in a fabulously soft modal-cotton combo. There are a couple of basics, but most of the clothing is sprinkled with inspirational quotes or graphics. My favorite is the “You literally can even” sweater :). These are collectible pieces, intended to be bought as functional outfit-highlight pieces. Don’t be expecting 2/$10 tees that you can get spaghetti sauce all over without caring; that’s what Walmart is for. The activewear seems to be a genre that will be a brand highlight in future: the streamlined seaming on the leggings has a cool vibe and the simple bralette, which immediately set me raving, has a super-hot strappy back design and is my favorite piece of the whole collection so far. It has a very Nikki-esque vibe…and who wouldn’t want to feel like Nikki when they’re working out? ;) Props to the ladies for a solid, workman-like debut with some intriguing moments. I can’t wait to see what else they have in store (literally and figuratively ;)).
BirdieBee is available to shop right now HERE. Note: there were apparently a few web site bugs with international shipping in the launch, which have now been fixed, but if you see an issue, please let the company know (without freaking out :)) so they can fix it. I’m so excited to finally post this for all of you! It’s been in process since literally August. I plead lack of time and scope of post: this season’s “blast” is more like a ka-boom - fashion is going in so many directions right now! There are a multitude of subtexts underlying a few dominant themes.
Brie caught our attention with this look which encapsulates her trademark boho flair. It pairs an antique rose peplum blouse with flowing sleeves and blue denim. I love Brie's coordinating mauve and periwinkle-gray make-up palette. ANd, of course, who can resist her pucker face? :) A white bead necklace and a gold pendant add polish to this vintage-casual look. She kept that vibe coming with her next outfit, a lovely ivory lace off-the-shoulder dress (the Marissa from Adelyn Rae) with black trim and a black bow at the bodice. I'm especially a fan of the ruffled-and-trimmed hem; there's something so sweetly throwback about that styling! Her low pony kept the look polished, but not overly formal. I would lay good money she completed this look with either black or ivory sandals :).
Brooke was also continuing in bohemian mode, pairing a navy tank with cut-off denim shorts. The highlight for me is the way she updated the look by topping it with a woven ivory fringe vest - it gives the outfit a trendy nod and upgrades the visual interest dramatically. I confess that I could live without the addition of the headband, but I love the laidback earthiness of her caramel sandals! Naturally, I can't do anything but rave over Cathy's outfit here: it has yellow! And what an amazing piece of yellow it is :) This spot on-trend one-shoulder ruffle top is from J. Crew (and is still available (and on sale!) here). She puts into a classic pairing with blue denim. With a statement that vibrant, you don't need much else to complete a look. Cathy adds a rose lip shade and ta-da: done and stylish. That's waaaay too easy, right? Finish with neutral (or yellow! :) I just had to get that in) heels or flats. We got a glimpse of Emma at the Mae Young Classic in a sheer-and-pieced crop top set above a black brassiere and mulberry pants. I'm not generally a fan of bra-baring styles, but I like the way it works here. The look comes off youthful and modern and it works on Emma. She also gets props for her choice of pants. The unusual and beautiful color makes this ensemble much more interesting. It helps her OTK boots to really stand out as well. This is a great look from Emma - it has a fierce, cool-girl vibe without feeling either too fussy or too nonchalant. |
