Oggh..how is it possible to look so casual and so chic at the same time?! Barbie slayed in this set from Kyna Collection that pairs wide-leg drawstring pants and a double-breasted duster-length jacket. She layered a cropped beige top below for a perfect dose of color. I'm head-over-heels for the way this outfit, despite doubtless being super-comfortable and laidback, also retains plenty of sophistication. These are not your everyday drawstring pants! And the ultra-long jacket makes a huge, stylish statement. It's fab from stem to stern! Next, she subtly got her USA on with this vintage-tinged polka dot bikini (this is the only time I'm ever grateful for something not being yellow!) from Frankie's Bikinis. I love that it's Fourth Of July appropriate without being the expected stars-and-stripes iteration. The red trim brings a spark to the set, as well as a modern touch that keeps it fresh and current. With her flowing blonde hair, sunnies and a drink her hand, Barbie is the picture of a flawless, dreamed-about summer day! From there, she heads into punk territory with this sweatshirt dress from Mistress Rocks. The length of this piece makes it quite versatile. For summer it works just as Barbie has styled it: as a mini dress, paired with strappy sandal-booties and a chain-handled bag that enhances the punk vibe. For transitional days, add fishnet stockings and motorcycle boots to head even further down Avenue Punk. For winter, it metamorphosizes easily into a tunic: style it with leggings and OTK boots...and possibly a thermal underneath ;). It gets all fierce-grunge when Barbie layers a House of CB scoopneck cami and cut-off jean shorts below an H & M oversize jacket. Barbie has become quite fond of this mid-length style topper this year; we've seen her use it several times with great effect, adding a fun shot of panache to whatever look she incorporates it in. An Hermes belt and Guess peeptoe OTK boots round off this look with a hint of flash and a big dose of attitude. She got serious about Western-wear for a Dierks Bentley concert, going with fringed beige knee-high boots, which completed a cropped white tank and cut-off white jean shorts combination. She didn't leave out the fierce though: she topped the ensemble with a strappy-sleeved jacket from Hot Miami Styles (which reminds me of the sleeves of this jacket of Sasha's). It brings a definite urban, trendy vibe to a classic Americana look.

Nikki was experimenting with the whole satin slipdress vehicle again in this March snap. If it's possible, I love this one even more! The belted, A-line shape of this Alexander Wang dress is a more accessible silhouette for this beautiful, though wayward, material. This iteration highlights her curves equally well and looks fabulously chic. It looks like Nikki's having tons of fun wearing it too! :) She popped the look in her favorite way: via a shot of bright red, in this case done with pointy pumps. I might have enjoyed a brighter lip to carry that lovely color upwards.
She gave us a pair of wintry looks from her visit to Lake Tahoe - it was still chilly there, apparently, even though technically this could have been considered spring. First up is a black, flutter-sleeved sweater from Elizabeth and James. This piece is fantastic! Simple, yet dramatic, it's one of those flawless canvases that looks amazing right now and will retain its sophistication for years to come. Nikki paired it with caramel leather Rag & Bone pants and finished the look with the chocolate lace-up boots (x Prada) we saw her wear earlier with her navy slipdress. I love how they can look so on point with two completely different outfits! This highlight of this look, though, has to be her black fur scarf and fur-trimmed hat! (Do you think Lana is jealous? - How about a little Ravishing Nikki? ;)) I love the textural drama of these accessories; they take this ensemble to a whole other level. Next up is black monochrome look which is noteworthy primarily for its incorporation of this lace-inset hoodie from Alexander McQueen [id by fashionofthedivas]. The glorified sweatshirt is a super cool piece for sure, but beyond that, this look is basically workout-wear with boots. Hum ho. I'd have loved moto pants instead of leggings for a more interesting alternative. It's a rare miss from this style queen. NBD, c'est la vie. She's right back on track with this scorching red fit-and-flare dress from Topshop. I love pretty waist tie and the way she vamped up the styling by unbuttoning the top to create a semi-deep plunge. Her Prada boots are on duty again, working fabulously in yet another look. This time, they're adding interest and modernity to a throwback silhouette. A narrow station choker adds the tiniest hint of embellishment, while her flushed-nude make-up complements the look perfectly, without distracting from its standout feature: that gorgeous color! Among the many fabulous collages Kim dug out of obscurity for us is this stunning set from the Bellas' annual Bella Bowl - a tradition beloved by football fans and diva fans alike! The year represented here was one of my favorites - the navy and red combo looked amazing on Nikki (and, in a way, served as a precursor to the sporty ring gear she rocks these days!) and Brie's hair and make-up were spectacularly on point! I love how she worked in her trademark waist-tied plaid shirt too :). In honor of this collage, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at ALL the twin's looks from their six Bella Bowl 'shoots :) The ladies' style ranged from gridiron-worthy to made-for-the-front-row (how about their platform pumps and off-shoulder tee variation? I don't think football fandom has ever looked fiercer! Or sexier! Brie's low pigtails caught my heart both years that she wore them - she makes them look sooooo super-cute! Nikki's orange jersey was also a standout. I know it just happened to be the Bronco's shade, but that color was just so fab on her! We tend to see Nikki reach for red instead of orange, but I'd like to register a request for a gear in the latter hue some time! Of course, the very BEST part of all the Bella Bowl 'shoots are Nikki and Brie's poses! They always kill them. Always. And they utilize the competitive spirit to it's fullest, capturing pugilistic playfulness perfectly! Their mock-scrappiness and sisterly smack made me smile every single time. It's such a great side of the twins to see: vibrant, hot and lighthearted all at once. You don't get that combo in too many photoshoots and it always makes the Bella Bowls a special and memorable affair. Just how memorable were they to you? Can you match which year (1-6) belongs to which 'shoot? Give it a try and then get the answers below the break :)
As is usual for Total Divas-returns-time, the ladies got a promo 'shoot to highlight it. Usually these are stocked full of amazing fashion, but I confess to being a bit underwhelmed by this season's choices. Eva Marie's look paired a sheer-inset bodysuit with OTKs, a hot, but somewhat expected look. My favorite part of this is the au courant twist of the bomber jacket topper, as it brings a new dimension to a pairing we've seen explored fairly often. Maryse's dress is a silver metallic sheath with a fabulous square neck and some ruched details It's precisely the kind of piece we'd have seen her do in her Million Dollar Couple days, with added heapings of crystal. Here it's pretty and successful..I was just hoping for mind-blowing. The closest we get to that are her incroyable strappy heels, which are simply everything and which I need to see again. Need. Naomi's silver skirt is a standout piece and a 'shoot highlight, hitting just the right trend note. I'd have liked to see the styling tweaked a touch. First, a blacktop would have grounded it better and let the skirt have the deserved spotlight. Second, I wish the skirt had been rotated slightly to show a touch less leg, switching the focus more to the stylishness and a little less to the sexiness. This was so close to being killer that just...:'( shucks. Nikki's flowing, wide-banded top is similar - the piece itself is amazing: dramatic, unusual, and envelope-pushing. But the bikini briefs? Nah, girlie. Black leggings and peeptoe booties? Yes, please. Ditto with Brie's look. The graphic tank works perfectly and if it were paired with a tulle-embellished skirt, I'd be all over it as the best look of the 'shoot. Instead, we a get a tulle wrap over the (two-for-one special?) bikini briefs. I get that sex sells, but sometimes we want to buy something else. As with Maryse's look, Brie's is redeemed a good deal by those fantastic heels. Those are fab and def need to come to play in future! Natalya's print dress buddies up with Maryse's look in impression: it's fun, it's chic, it works. But it's nice-age more than slay-age. She gets props for her pose, though - hers is one of the best in the line-up: powerful, confident and flirty all at once. Paige's black bodysuit aired with leather OTKs suffers from the same redundancy as Eva Marie's look, without the redeeming bomber jacket. I think I could get into this look if she'd tossed a black trench over her shoulders. And no, I am not going to exit stage left without remarking on how killer those boots are. Those are HAWT in every possible way. Like so many other pieces in this 'shoot, I hope to see them again, perhaps restyled with blue denim, a lace-up top and a biker jacket. Despite having a vaguely superhero-esque feel, Lana's metallic-wrapped bodysuit succeeds among the best of the looks here. It ties nicely together, it has a degree of unexpectedness, it shows enough but not too much and it has a hint of risk-taking to hold our attention. Her favorite lace-up style pumps complete the look with fashion awareness.
This simple outfit from Barbie packed a lot of impact, so much that we did an Inspiration Board look with it. There's just something cool and chic about the combo of gray with black! The gray cropped sweater exudes coziness, with the shorter silhouette providing just a hint of flirtation. Even more fun is the foldover detail at the collar - I love distinctive touches like that! Barbie paired this Intermix piece with Frame denim jeans. Her OTKs, which add the shot of fierceness to this look -as they always do! - are from Sam Edelman, a surprisingly budget-friendly choice from Barbie, but which is a jazz. I always get a thrill to realize that I can own the same piece as a favorite diva, without mortgaging my first-born for it ;).
Vests were the order of this particular autumn day in the Bellaverse. Brie combined a fur one (since it's Brie, I have no doubt of it's being faux fur!) with black leggings and black suede OTKs. There's a pleasing simplicity to this monochromatic look, which she breaks up with her burgundy leather choker (I could have been perfectly happy to have that in black as well) and her desert rose lip, which brings a lovely flush of warmth to this ensemble, without the harshness of red. Nikki went for a similar shade, with the same gorgeous effect, as she paired a ruffled cropped vest with studded leather pants. The contrast of the feminine (and spot on-trend) ruffles with the tougher vibe of the studs is stellar and gives the outfit its je ne se quoi. Like Brie, she includes a choker (barely visible in this shot - sorry ;(). Hers is black and works flawlessly. I'm also a fan of the way her dark nails bring a gothic edge to the look. It's wonderful to see Brooke back on our scene, this time repping autumn-hot houndstooth via this cropped top, which we also saw her wear in Dec 2015. While she matched it with a skirt then, this time, she re-styled it with leggings and a tuxedo jacket. the whole look had a modern, graphic vibe, with the houndstooth creating an almost pixelated quality. It's a very different feel from the sexy, schoolgirl-esque aura she drew from the piece last time! This is such a great demo in how to re-use and re-work wardrobe items - something I am a huge fan of! Her metallic pumps add a perfect contrasting hint of flash. Cathy attended NXT Takeover in this stunning blue-meet-sheer mini dress. The intricate, delicate pattern is beautiful, especially done in this incredible electric blue! She paired it with OTKs, which have become a fashion staple over the last few years, with a particular resurgence this season. They bring a nice twist of attitude to this sweet-n-chic frock. As promised, a closer look at Steph's outfit is at the far right. This pic really shows off how well it's put together!
I'm completely loving this outfit from Mandy as well! She pairs a white cropped turtleneck with blue jeans, gives it a touch of flash with her Hermes belt and then makes it totally winter appropriate with her faux fur vest. The lightness of this still-wintry color palette, as well as the casual glamour of the styling makes it an instant hit with me! Her make-up is soft and natural and creates a girl-next-door vibe and her high ponytail is super-cute! That's one of my favorite placements for a pony - it's polished, fun and sp pretty! Michelle may not be wrestling any more, but she's clearly kept abreast of fashion trends in a way that would be totally LayCool-approved! She pairs black leggings, which were a fave of hers throughout that era with a slouchy olive sweater, draped off of one shoulder for a sexy vibe. She added an of-the-moment choker to keep the look trendy and finished it with her Louis Vuitton Seduction boots that took the Divas' Fashion Universe by storm back in 2010 when she debuted them. They're proof now that a classic never goes out of style and the zippered details (which allow the boots to switch betwen ankle, knee and OTK height) add a distinctive edgy fierceness to this casually trendy look. The only thing on my wish list is that Michelle ease up on the braids a tad; they're pretty, but in this case look the tiniest bit harsh ..and she's been doing variations of them almost nonstop since April. Maria was also feeling the casual feels in this October snap, where she paired a simple black tee with gray distressed denim. I'm a fan of the unique color choice of her jeans; it makes a fun change-up! She layered a multi-striped shirt over tee for warmth and an unusual way to play with both color and proportion (love that!) and then topped the look with a black leather biker jacket. Finally, she added a big pop of color with red ankle boots! The whole theory of this outfit completely works for me. In practice, I might have leaned toward a solid red, red stripe or red plaid shirt to infuse the color throughout the outfit. But the basic principles work perfectly. (And PS, you could mellow out the drama a touch by going with black boots, if you wanted to create the look without the boldness of red footwear.) Charlotte wasn’t the only one who broke out some new gear for Hell In A Cell. Sasha debuted a variation on her trademark ringwear silhouette which paired camo with red. Camo can be hard to coordinate with, as it’s traditional tones are quite dusty, yet the pattern is busy. The red adds a big spark to the muted colors and gets full marks form me for being a unique combo. I like the subtle metallic flash of the silver piping, although I wonder if bronze might have helped to unite the red and the camo a little better. Overall, I think the pairing works quite well – it’s different and attractive, doesn’t fall victim to being wither too complex or too bland. Nice choice, Sash!
Dana hit a huuuuge high note with this look; it’s easily my favorite ring gear look from her ever! The halter shape looks aaaaaafreakingmazing on her, the scrollwork is really beautiful and adds an artistic flourish to the gear. The sheer inset, crossed with crystal-embellished straps adds just the right touch of au courant sexiness, while the additional sprinklings of sparklers on the black background ramp up the glam factor. The strappy side-slits on her pants echo botht the design of her top and it’s sultry flavor, while the chevron-to-chevron design of her top and pants-waistband works precisely how it’s intended to. Lastly, she ditched the cropped legging hemline and went for full-length pants, which lengthened the line of the gear and made for a smooth transition to her boots, elongating her legs. So much “yes!” on that! Synopsis: this gear to totally FLAWLESS. Awesome job! Post HIAC, Charlotte was playing with texture in this black monochrome look where she paired a leather-look top with a moto jacket, structured denim and luxe suede. The mix of smooth and lush brings a nice dose of visual interest to an ensemble that’s simple in terms of its color story. I wouldn’t have minded seeing her add a little pop via a bright lip, or drama with a darker one, but this soft pink one works and her side French braids are so pretty! |
