Cathy went for denim-on-denim in this December snap, pairing a button-down in a medium wash with dark skinny bottoms. She connected the two with a black leather belt and completed the look with banana yellow pumps, which naturally I love :). That said, the styling feels like it’s missing a little something. I would have liked her shoes and belt to be matchy-er ( a classic interpretation that’s very effective), or the addition of an accessory in a light shade to connect the whole look. She utilizes the belt again for her next look, this time connecting dark skinny denim to a shoulder-baring striped top. Here, her black wedge sandals make the look feel quite cohesive, while her burgundy tasseled bag adds a fun touch of whimsy.
We saw Charlotte do a very similar look to this back in September, except that here she went with wide leg pants instead of skinnies. I like the change and the very sophisticated vibe of the duster coat with the flowing pants. The one small tweak I would make is to do a full tuck with her blouse (or add a belt) to define her waist more. It would have pulled the look together, given it a solid focal point amid all the pieces with movement and made it feel a shade more polished and chic. Sadly, we don’t get a really good look at this ensemble from Alicia, worn during her visit to Iraq this winter, but frankly when I see a studded jacket and OTK boots, I’m generally in right there. It looks like Foxy added a black top beneath all that fierceness and then threw in her customary fabulous twist by adding a floppy fedora. The color unites the look, while the variety of elements and unexpected accessory keep it fresh and intriguing. Trademark Foxy slayage. She was at it again, albeit with a much more casual take, in her next outfit, which paired a white tee with leather leggings, topped with a striped scarf and a faux-fur trimmed cropped moto jacket in a natural canvas-tone. She completed the look with fur-lined mid-calf boots and added a baseball cap in coordinating hue for good measure. I love how this look feels so easy and unstudied and yet retains a quiet glamour at the same time. It also happens to be a flawless use of winter white shades.

I love the floral on this dress Cathy chose for a November red carpet event! The simple color combination really pops and the small scale of the floral looks delicate and has a vintage quality to it. It would have been a jazz to see her enhance that with a sweeter hair style, but I can also see her logic in playing against it with this sleek, modern central-part style. I do find it just a bit harsh in this case, as I often do, but Cathy is one of the few who can pull the look off successfully in most cases. Subtly sexy black ankle strap sandals complete her look. It’s all about the red and black again, but in a totally different way, for her next outfit, a casual combo of a white turtleneck and blue jeans, topped with a statement buffalo-plaid overcoat. The bold pattern and strong color completely makes this ensemble, giving it interest and a comfy-meets-cool vibe. I also love the textural contrast and attitude of the studded belt. It adds a secondary connotation that gives depth to the presentation. She makes a similarly successful contrast with her next look by pairing a sequined bomber with a lace cami and slim black pants. It’s a femme-glam-mod causal mash-up that I just adore, firstly because…glitter! …and secondly because of the fun juxtaposition of genres. The sleekness of her central-parted low pony works perfectly here, grounding the outfit and keeping it form feeling at all frilly. You could easily take this look in an athleisure direction by completing it with black, white or metallic sneakers, or keep the mod-femme vibe going with a pointed flat.
Charlotte combined a delicately moody dark floral print with leather pants for her Wrestlemania Pre-Sale meet-n-greet. I love the look of the artistic print combined with the smooth, toughness of the leather, as well as the way the print colors enliven the look, keeping it dark but not drab. Her black military boots continue the theme from the pants, which works well. I feel like there’s some tiny touch missing that could give this outfit more intensity and consequence – perhaps a half-tuck or a ponytail and statement earrings – but I’m totally on board for each of the elements and the way they work together. Barbie kicked off November in this simple, classic pairing of a long-sleeved, heathered tee and denim shorts. The look has a completely all-American girl vibe to it…until you get to the footwear :). Barbie’s choice of burgundy velvet OTK boots not only adds a massive shot of fierce, it also give the fall flavor to an otherwise almost summer-y outfit. A burgundy lip shade carries the color upward in a pleasing way.
Alexa got a Maryse Makeover during Total Divas which gave me mixed feels. I loved the youthful vibe of the embroidered collar on the dress Maryse picked but, even with that, the piece has a maturity and sophistication which feel a little out of place on Blissy just yet. Ditto the gorgeous lace coat. The studded bag I think she could probably work with though ;). Even though the look isn’t ultimately one I can see Alexa keeping right now, I really enjoyed seeing her step out of her comfort zone. Sometimes the best way to figure out who you are (in fashion and otherwise) is to figure out who you’re not. Or, who you’re not right now – sometimes you find something you can come back to another point and realize that you’ve grown into it. The experience always has a lesson, which is why taking chances and trying things is important. It keeps you from getting stuck in a box and/or getting bored. Brie gave us a sample of her trademark boho style on the show, as well. She paired a flowy peasant blouse in antique rose with medium wash blue jeans. This is a rendition of the fancy-meets-chill blouse and denim look that fashion has been loving the last few seasons. It often gets served with distressed denim so I really love seeing Brie’s hole-less bottoms! The look works flawlessly, with her braided hairband cementing the bohemian vibe and acting as the exclamation point of the styling. One of the key elements of distinguishing an athleisure look from straight up gym style is adding an elevated piece of fashion that signals that these were considered choices. In Alicia's look, earrings served that role. Cathy did it a bit differently with this streetwear Instagram snap, using a semi-formal blouse to elevate the casual pieces and it looked amazing! The formality is unexpected and gives the styling zest and excitement. She counter-balanced the fanciness by keeping the other elements of the look laidback: leggings, sneakers and a cropped, sherpa-lined jacket. Her blouse featured a cutout and tiny studs, but a whole variety of styles and embellishments can work for creating this look: an embroidered blouse makes for a sweet and femme play on the sporty concept. Ruffled, bowed, sheer-accented and lace tops will serve a similar function. Or, give it a cool and polished turn with a striped piece or silk button-down (the material is crucial here - you want something with a sheen to get that crucial contrasting fancy vibe). On the pants front, a number of styles can work: track pants, cuffed sweats, straight up leggings. Keep the color scheme primarily to neutrals to tie the look together and keep it elevated. All black is fab, but if you're feeling the need for something lighter, consider beige, ivory or gray tones. Top the look with a chill jacket - a bomber is the current automatic go-to, but for cooler temps, a down piece will do nicely and create similar relaxed vibes. Neutrals def work, but also feel free to spice the look up here with a bright color, as Cathy as, if the spirit so moves you. Complete the look with simple sneakers. Cathy's choice of bright white brings a real pop to the look and plays on the white shoe trend, but a neutral or coordinating color will work perfectly as well. Happy sporty styling, loves!
A little more Brandi love kicks off this FashionHap, starting with this incredible velvet off-the-shoulder dress. The color is similar to the lace coord set I was raving over last time, with similar stunning-ness (did Brie just make up a word again? Most likely.) This silhouette is incredibly elegant and, despite being totally ‘right now’, it also has a timeless quality – in ten years, it will be just as appropriate. Brandi completed the look with nude pumps for a more formal interpretation, but you could just as easily style this piece with black booties and a leather jacket draped over your shoulders for a casual look. Her next outfit showcases a lovely mix of elements. It starts with an apparently simple navy dress – until you get down to the cool architectural detail of the asymmetric hemline. Pointy-toe ankle booties in black suede add a shot of fierceness. Top this with a black trench and you have power dressing at its finest. Instead, Brandi threw a curve ball and added a classic tote - in neon candy pink! This effervescent, joyous color lightens the mood of the look dramatically. Instead of power and seriousness, it becomes about sophistication and FASHION. I love how this one choice makes such a tremendous impact on the statement the look makes! From there, she gives us a chic, casual look that channels a bit fo the 70’s, spun up with a bit of now. She pairs a floral bell-sleeved crop top with a denim mini skirt and completes the look with beige suede OTK’s. While her top feels feminine and nostalgic, the other two pieces modernize the look and give it and edge. To keep the 70’s vibe, this could be styled with a midi A-line denim piece.
Brooke unleashed her rock-star side with this night-out ensemble. A graphic tee with an eye-catching cut-out underlies a classic denim jacket and pocket-revealing cut-off jean shorts. And there’s no slowing down – she kept the fierce raging by finishing the look with suede OTKs. Everything about this combination is grunge-punk attitude! Her statement earrings (and I love that she did her hair in a ponytail so we really get to see them!) and cuff bracelets add a touch of shine and glam. It’s so much fun seeing Brooke go hard on a look like this -she does it so well! Carmella instagrammed this super cool pairing of a star printed romper from Love Culture with mid-calf booties. Mid-calf can be a tricky height to utilize, but they work really well here because there’s plenty of space between the top of the bot and the hem of the romper. I love the way they bring attitude and a street vibe to the fashion vibes of this star print. I can be in or out on these kinds of patterns, but this is a particularly pretty rendition! The wide choker is the perfect complement to complete the look. Question of the moment: can Brie review three months of fashion before the end of the year? Welp…I have zero clues. But I’m gonna try :).
Barbie’s late September gem of a look is a New Year’s outfit waiting to happen. I was wild over this the instant I saw it: denim button down, sequin pencil skirt – what’s not to love? Barbie completed the look with leg-lengthening nude pumps and kept her make-up soft as well, letting the shine from her skirt be the main focus. I love how this outfit is both relaxed and party-worthy at the same time! PS I would also happily do this look with a flannel buttondown ;) Brandi showed off this snap on her Instagram, which seems to be from a photoshoot with Cody and herself. That dress tho! Lace, appliqué, sheer – it’s a total confection of gorgeousness wrapped up in an LBD. Brandi tones it down by keeping her hair long and loose and accenting it simply, with nude pumps, making the overall ensemble come off incredibly chic. I love this girl’s style! Have I mentioned that? (Only perpetually, yes?). Lana updated her previous tv look (this vest+pencil skirt combo which reminded me of her early Ravishing Russian style) with red lapels. She echoed the shade in her lips and lovely ankle strap heels. I love her in red – it’s a stunning color for her, so I like this iteration very much. I do hope she’s going to do more than change lapel colors for this era, though, ‘cuz that could get old in a hurry. Lana has a wonderful sense of style, so I’m placing my bets on seeing her change up a bit more soon. Charlotte often reaches for black monochrome looks for her tv appearances, and she does it again here, pairing a black cropped top with leather leggings and suede knee boots. The silhouette created by this pairing is a little challenging for her body type, which is quite straight. While the leggings help to define her waist, the top kind of cancels that out and makes her look more blocky. A looser and/or blousonne-style top would work better for these super-skinny bottoms. Alternatively, shortening the height of the crop just slightly, so it hit at the narrowest part of her body could work too. We saw Alexa go for a similar look, using nearly all black, with leather leggings on the bottom. Blissy paired them with a simple, longer-length tank and topped the ensemble with a printed, gray hooded vest. I love the look of the shorter vest layered over the longer tank, as well as the sporty vibe it brings to the look. I’m super glad she added the hardware-embellished ankle booties! They add that totally needed dose of jazz to the look. Cathy kicked off August with a fun pairing that’s deceptively complicated. It’s a stripe-on-stripe combo, created via the wide panel-like sections of denim that form her skirt. Melding different types of stripes in a single look can be tricky, but the difference in widths is unified by the shared vertical direction, making this ensemble very successful. I love how it invites you to think about it in a more in-depth way! I also love the trendy nod of the double-buckle she added. The defined waist and additional flash add just right amount of silhouette and spark. We don’t get to see her shoes, but black ankle booties would be my pick. Next up is a romper that, naturally, I love :). The color alone is pretty much all I need to see, but the lace details make this piece extra special. I’d lean toward nude ankle strap sandals as a finish to dress it up or white sneakers for a more relaxed styling. I’m also going wild over the fact that Cathy styled her hair in a half up-do! Woohoo! :). She’s a huge fan of the simple center part, but I love seeing something different now and again and this looks completely stunning on her! She gives us an Americana vibe with her next look, a red and white striped coord set that she completed with simple white sneakers. The whole outfit is simple, laidback and super cute! She was still all about the stripes at SummerSlam-time, sporting this knit dress with an interesting knot-front detail. Cathy kept the styling thoroughly minimal: no statement earrings, not even a tiny pendant. The entire statement comes from the dress, creating an edited, carefree vibe that’s perfect for summer. As with her previous cood set, this outfit is made to be completed with white sneakers, just like the one sin her next outfit, a floral-printed romper. We often see Cathy in bright, intense colors; they tend to work flawlessly for her and this piece is no exception. She kept her center part, but styled her hair in a low pony, which fits the laidback, sneaker-finished styling nicely. That being said, with all the sneakers we’ve seen from her, I wouldn’t have minded seeing her go with a pair of pointed black flats here, just to switch things up a little.
