The Inspiration Boards have become one of the most popular features here on diva-fierce.com – which thrills me because I love creating them! As the year winds down, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the looks that all of you loved best this year, as determined by the number of views. What was capturing your oh so fashionable gaze in 2017?
1. Maryse – Lacy Layers …ok, technically, this post is from 2016. I was still developing the concept then and didn’t do a year-end Top list, but I wanted to recognize it here, as it was one of the most viewed posts for mooooonths after it went up and gets a significant number of hits even now, over a year later. 2. Barbie – Candy & Flowers…I loved the sweet colors and unexpected pop of florals in this accessible and chic look from Barbie. So did you :) It was the runaway favorite of the year, getting nearly double the number of views of any other look. 3.Mckenzie – Denim 70’s…The 70’s has been a massive influence on fashion over the past few years and this re-imagining of Mckenzie’s Americana look embraced it wholeheartedly, with earthy colors, midi lengths and an off-the-shoulder silhouette. It got plenty of love from you, earning the next most popular spot. 4. Becky – Metal & Lace-kicker…nipping at the heels of the Denim 70’s look was one from a very different genre: a play on Becky’s femme-meets-tough-chick ring gear that melded lace pieces with hardware accents. It seems the Fiercenti who frequent diva-fierce love a whole range of styles! And that is so awesome because…me too! 5. We had three looks in nearly a dead heat for the fifth spot: Natalya - a la Natalya, a glamour-tinged riff on Nattie’s incredible gear, Naomi – When Tulle Met Stripes, a translation of Nay-nay’s Valentine’s Day ‘shoot look that paired chic tulle with the breezy Parisian vibe of stripes and Lana – Gypsy Rocker, a casual luxe look that chanelled a bit of Stevie Nicks by way of Lana’s Instagram snap Your fashion sense rocked in 2017, Fiercenti! Here’s to an equally stylish 2018 :)

Maria’s experimentations with fashion continued throughout the month. Her barely-captured Smackdown outfit layered a graffiti-covered bomber jacket over what looks to be an assemblage-type mini dress with appliqué an sequins. Black ankle booties completed the risky look. I’ve learned to never be surprised at where Maria takes her fashion – she’s never afraid to “go there” and while this look is busy and messy, it makes an interesting direction for the love-filled, urban-warrior character she’s developing, so I give her points for the experimentation. I could have skipped the daring burgundy lip with all that was going on below it, but it toughen up the styling even more. From there, she paired a ruffled mini skirt from Express with a sunglasses-wearing-skull-print tank from Zara and clear sandals from Aldo (all id’s by fashionofhedivas.tumblr.com). This look is just as risky as the first, but it very nearly works. There’s a long jump from skulls to ruffles and I wish she had tied the outfit together by going with combat boots instead of the clear sandals, which are super-modern. It’s fine, though – Maria keeps me intrigued and thinking about fashion, so I’m always up for seeing what she does next!
Maryse’s look was more edited, but I love the moto styling of this gray zip-front dress! It’s like a biker-jacket done as a little gray dress! It’s streamlined and packs an attitude, despite its classic silhouette. She finished it with simple pumps, but combat boots, or studded, heeled ankle booties would look fab with this also! Her SummerSlam-week vist to New York city found her pairing a lace bodysuit with latex pants in a look that melded various approaches to seduction -from sweetness to S & M. She topped the outfit with a sleeveless trench. I love these pieces individually, but I find this look to be a bit scattered in effect, although the unifying effect of the black helps it tremendously. I have a similar feeling about her next offering, which pairs the floral Delaina top from Alice and Olivia with the glittering lace confection of the Almira skirt from the same brand. I love the gorgeous floral of the top and the skirt is crave-worthy! Even so, and despite the gold of the skirt being echoed in matte tones in the floral, the look feels a touch disjointed. Maryse added a wide black waist, which perfectly enhances her curves – and finished the look with simple black Nudist sandals from Stuart Weitzman. I’d have loved to see tie the outfit together with burgundy or blush heels instead. I’m so excited to finally post this for all of you! It’s been in process since literally August. I plead lack of time and scope of post: this season’s “blast” is more like a ka-boom - fashion is going in so many directions right now! There are a multitude of subtexts underlying a few dominant themes.
I’ve been working super hard on a massive new Melange post. Coming this week for ya, loves! XO
Maria was cool and casual in her black and red graphic tee and leggings. I love how she put a rocker-cool spin on this look with her leather vest and, most of all, those super hot ankle boots! A little hardware always gets my attention ;). For her summer tv appearance, she ditched casual for glam, showing off this silver sequined dress with a tulip front. The cutesy vibe of her lipstick-kiss pumps wouldn’t have been my first choice as a pairing from a fashion standpoint, but they’re a perfect way to convey her character, so I’m giving them the ok here. They definitely add a whimsical touch to this fancy piece, which makes the look stand out from the ordinary. She doubled down on that theme with her next look, a pairing of black kabooty shorts with a sequined Betty Boop tee and lipstick-kiss leather jacket in blush. The whole ensemble is so over-the-top and almost cartoonish that only Maria could pull this off successfully. Her massive, fearless personality carries this look: it doesn’t wear her, she wears it. And she channels it into a faux serious sexy lovefest. I’m completely in awe of how she makes something so wrong seem exactly right. And she earns bonus points for the on-trend fishnets. We saw Maryse wear this BCBG cape dress alone with nude pointy pumps and layered over a sheer piece with Rockstud pumps, but here she lighten the look up by completing it with Nudist ankle strap sandals. They have a barely-there quality (hence the name ;)) which really highlights the sleek softness of this dress. I’m also 100% in for her self-wrapped pony, which looks amazing on her and is rapidly becoming one of my favorite hairstyles. I also want to express my delight for Maryse and Miz and their forthcoming bundle of joy. Congrats to them! Lana was a blushing beauty in this pale pink tank dress. She kept the look monochromatic by finishing it with chunky-heeled ankle strap sandals. I love the shoes in and of themselves, but I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on pairing them with such a casual dress. They should help to elevate it, but they feel a little off here and I think jewelry (a long semi-formal pendant necklace for example) or a wide leather belt might have helped the look be more cohesive. This way, without accessories, I might have gone with sneakers or light-colored ankle booties. I do love her low pony; it shows off her shoulders and fits with the laidback, sporty vibe.
Maryse turns the seduction on full blast in this criss-cross strapped dress from Hot Miami Styles (also worn by Lana last fall, in pink). The fiery red hue just makes the piece that much more scintillating and Maryse's pulled-back hair lets the focus stay on that head-turning central detail. Since she wore the dress around Independence Day, I'm fully supporting white or blue heels to complete the look! :). Next up is a white lace-and-sheer sheath dress from Revolve Clothing. Maryse paired it with black Nudist sandals from Stuart Weitzman. This look is not only classic Maryse, it's classic period. The white and black combo goes heavy on the white, making it feel just right for summer. The delicacy of the sandals enhances that light-as-air quality. They're echoed by Maryse's dark nails, while her peach-pink lip brings in a touch of warmth. This look is simply chic from head to toe! I'm even crazier about her second outfit with the Nudist sandals: this forest green satin slipdress. The midi length is sophisticted and on-trend, as is the slipdress silhouette, but what really thrills me is this color -it's glorious! This rich jewel tone looks amazingly luxe, especially done in this shimmering satin. We've seen Maryse have success with this shade before and this rendition runs true to form. It works for summer (although I might have considered silver sandals to lighten the look a bit more); add a faux fur jacket and ankle booties to transition it into fall. McKenzie has consistently impressed me with her fashion since she popped on to my radar and this embellished dress she wore for Slammiversary doesn't tarnish her record. The embellishment is of perfect scale for her and on-trend, the fit of the sheath is splendid and the color combination is iconic. I like that she chose something a bit more formal for a big PPV event. I have one thing on my wishlist here: I wish she had gone with white (or black) shoes here, as I feel that the light nude hue can sometimes juts look dirty when paired with white. The strappy styling is a definite win though! Streetwear looks have been few and far between from Natalya this summer, so it was wonderful to see her out and about in this black jumpsuit. The clean, edited styling is just what I'd expect from this Queen Of Classic chic. I love the addition of the belt for added waist definition - I wouldn't even have minded a more dramatic version with a touch of embellishment or a bit more hardware. I'd put good money she completed this look with black strappy sandals or pointy toe pumps. Either one would be an excellent choice. Brie: A quartet of Divas attended this year’s ESPY awards and we saw quite the gamut of fashion! Lana kicked things off with a sheer knit halter-neck dress (from House of CB) which sported demure slits on each side. The crux of the look is the semi-transparent nature of the dress, which allows her strapless balconette bra and high-waisted briefs to create a shadow-silhouette beneath. While I love the clean, minimalist drama of the cutaway halter, I would infinitely prefer if this piece was lined. Unfortunately, doing so would make an already fairly laidback piece even more casual -too casual , really, for a red carpet event, even a more relaxed one such as this. Although I can’t come to a successful resolution of that conundrum, I appreciate the appropriateness of the sporty vibe of the piece for this event. Lana brought the fanciness up tremendously with her excellent choices of accessories: shoulder-grazing star earrings (so amazing!!), and a sprinkling of gold and crystal rings (all from Y2K Jewelers) and fabulous chain-embellished strappy sandals (the Hypnotize from Lola Shoetique). I’m definitely on board for the way the touches of shine and sparkle elevate this look! I also love the subtlety of her make-up palette; the amber, clay and taupe tones enhance her beauty without getting in the way of her outfit. And after all the bright lips we’ve seen all summer, this pastel golden rose is a nice change.
Next up was Maryse who took a much more glamorous approach (such a surprise, right? ;)) in this glittering Abyss By Abby gown. The plunging neckline and spaghetti-strap piece was a familiar silhouette for Maryse; while we’ve seen it before it also happens to be one that works flawlessly for her. I could have done without the second front slit, but I’m almost reconciled to that by the glorious bittersweet color of the gown. It’s uncommon and stunning. Sizeable crystal earrings bring in an additional dose of drama, while strappy beige-adobe Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals and a coordinating Louboutin envelope clutch complete the look. I love how her chocolate smoky eye echoes the warmth of her gown’s color. I love even more that she styled this look herself. Brava, Maryse! I can’t help but admire ladies who the guts and the fashion sense to do that, especially because the look then becomes a little extra authentic in that there’s no one between the fashion and the wearer to dilute their personal style sensibilities. Kim: Red carpets are always a fashion-lovers dream. You can see such a mix of fashion choices, and the 2017 ESPY Awards were the perfect example of that. From sleek dresses to sport-like looks, the WWE Superstars brought it all to the table this year. First up, I have to talk about my girl Nikki Bella. She went in a totally different direction than previous years at the ESPY's. Sporting a white crop top (from Missguided) with black trim and zipper detail, black flowy pants with white stripes (from Adidas x Stella McCartney), this is a very street/tomboy inspired look. The waistband of her Birdiebee underwear is clearly visible, which to some may be a fashion no-no. But for me, I'm giving it a pass, mostly because it's her and Brie's own fashion line. You can't blame her for wanting to show it off a little. Also, oh freaking amazing is her clutch. I want it! This is one of the simpler looks we’ve seen from Eva Marie: she pairs a white button down top with destroyed blue denim. I love the way she’s styled her top by layering it over a bodysuit, instead of the more expected semi-sheer shirt over bra look. This keeps the modernity, but adds class and sophistication, especially since Eva left only the top two buttons of her blouse undone, letting the sexy lacing details of her bodysuit be subtext rather than a focal point. The styling is a fantastic way to transition the sultry summer bodysuit+jeans look to fall, as well as a wonderful way to make use of the fact that so many white shirts today are at the very least semi-transparent (which is a pet peeve of mine that I won’t rant about now ;)). Eva uses fierce sandals to complete this look with panache. She ramps up the seduction with her next ensemble, an off-the-shoulder graphic tee with a fab biker-punk vibe with gray destroyed denim and strappy black sandals. Her shoe choice elevates this cool look dramatically. For fall, the sandals could be swapped for pointy ankle boots. If this floral bikini looks familiar, it’s because we’ve also seen Emma wear it. The piece (now sold out) was offered through Eva’s NEM line. I love it just as much on Eva as I did on Emma.
I also love this pale lemon sundress on Gail! How incredibly pretty is this piece? Not only is there the gorgeous color, there is the feminine sweetheart neckline, fit-and-flare shape and enchanting lace hem. Everything about this dress is lighthearted and joyful. She paired it with beige espadrilles for a look that is quintessentially summer. She added a touch of flash with her hoop earrings, but her best accessory may be that glass of white wine ;). (unless it’s champagne, in which case it’s def her best accessory!). |
