Jumpsuits and risky pants seem to have reached consensus-status among the divas this fall. Cathy, along with Barbie, gave us a pair of them and handled both excellently. Her first was a navy square-neck piece with wide straps (I LOVE those for hiding bra straps!) and a subtly sexy front notch. The matte fabric of this piece keeps it slightly to the casual side, so Cathy ramped up the look by pairing it with strappy nude sandals. If you thought that was good, her next choice was even better: a stunning forest green satin piece, chosen for the Heroes Gala. First, I’m in love with this color right now – it’s luxe, elegant and looks stunning! Second, the high cross design of this piece is dramatic and sexy, especially with the little peekaboo situation just about her waist. The side buttons add just a touch of flash, which Cathy accentuated with jeweled fan earrings that make just enough of a statement. Her bright cranberry lip brings a festive touch to this fantastic look.
Carmella hopped on board the daring-pants-plus-neutrals vehicle and, as with both other ladies who have tried it, the pairing succeeds nicely. These windowpane-printed pants could get too busy in a hurry, but matched with this deep-v top and black leather jacket (I love how she got in a touch of her trademark leopard print via the collar!), they come off funky and experimentally modern. If I could swap anything, it would be her boots. I’m giving her a bye on this one because I suspect this was a rainy day (I would probably lean toward a knee-height version myself for a bit more polish), but for non-inclement weather, ankle booties with a block heel or flat OTK’s would give this pairing a little fiercer finish. We know Brandi for many of her more formal looks, but she also rocks casual style. This simple pairing of an ivory peplum sweater with black leggings and flat ankle boots has just the kind of laidback, confident femininity that’s perfect for fall…or the post-holiday winter chill ;). On a more familiar note is this blush dress, paired with nude platform pumps. Brandi is a master at picking chic classics with a twist and this piece is a #HowItsDone101. This iconic silhouette gets an update from the wrap effect and the crossed front detail, which has the added benefit of accentuating the waist and creating the hourglass shape. Her color story of mixed pale neutrals keeps this fresh and modern. Maryse also explored the wrap-look option with this Want My Look piece. (Aside: the wrap dress reflects the current 70’s trend, as that was the decade in which designer Diane von Furstenberg brought it to the forefront of fashion). This low scoop-neck silhouette pushes sexy to its limits, while Maryse adds attitude by finishing it with black suede OTKs from Sam Edelman. She brings an extra touch of attitude and drama by topping it with a metallic trench, a twisted-classic piece from Femme LA, which I love her use of! The sheen adds interest and chic to a simply sexy black monochrome look and gives it a powerful flair. Her blackberry lip brings a darker vibe to the look, which, while it might be harsh for day-time wear, works well for the drama of an evening ensemble.

It's that most wonderful time of the year again, Fancies: the time when we give the gift of recognition to the very best photoshoots of the year! We pick the nominees, but to narrow it down to the sole, ultimate, number one of the year, your help is required! We need you. We can't do it without you. So, help us choose...The One.
This year presented some unprecedented challenges. First, in the Knockouts category, there were very few full photoshoots at all. We therefore had to make use of a couple that were one-shot 'shoots, which I have always preferred not to include, but this year simply have so few other options that it's the most reasonable solution. In a similar vein, many of the Divas snaps this year were part of combo 'shoots, so I've made the decision to consider each lady superstar's set as an individual 'shoot. All that being acknowledged, there were plenty of moments which wowed us, inspired us, sent us reeling into transports of delight. Who, may you ask, accomplished all this? I'm thrilled to announce this year's list of Silver Snap Awards Nominees: WWE has done it again! They have foisted upon my fashion sensibilities yet another year of these truly reprehensible Christmas sweaters! And you all get to hear me cringe, writhe and moan yet again. I keep hoping that one of these years they'll make this seemingly obligatory photoshoot just head shots, but alas, this year is not the year. I consider it a dereliction of duty to not at least look at what I'm reviewing, so I did steel myself, do some deep breathing exercises and gaze...as briefly as possible. I admit that outside of the horror of the garments themselves, there are aspects to enjoy (yes, I'm an optimist :)). The ladies made creditable attempts at expressing happiness and playfulness - enough to make the fashion in these snaps worth enduring. Alexa is suitably seductive, Bayley engagingly effervescent, Naomi appreciably alluring. In addition, her glowing lime hair makes a wonderful and modern color combo, when paired with the more traditional crimson and kelly tones of her sweater.
Several of the lady Superstars (and friends ;)) celebrated the beginning of tailgating season with an outdoor party...and some red, white and blue-themed fashion :). It looked like one heck of a good time! The shots captured the "anything goes as long as it's fun and/or funny" spirit of a tailgating adventure. The complexity of the scenery seemed to curtail the ladies' posing somewhat and made some snaps a bit less cohesive than might be ideal. However, in other shots, the mix worked well. This was a 'shoot idea we haven't seen recently, if ever; the closest I recall was a set of car wash photos. So, props to whoever(s) came up with the concept. Overall, I think it worked well and gave a bunch of ladies a chance to show off their personalities ...and their fashion sense. Speaking of which :)...
One thing that *always* gets me excited is when Divas take risks in photoshoots and push past boundaries. Anything that breaks new ground is high up on my list of loves. Photoshoots are the perfect forum to do this, because they're a method of communication in which the ladies are free from the conventional boundaries of tv and live events. That feeling of freedom is very much in evidence in Naomi’s latest set of snaps, where she explores the full realization of her Feel The Glow concept, something she has been slowing evolving for two years (can you imagine – two whole years?!) [See interview here]. I loved the sentiment of her “Feel The Glow” tees; it just felt like a cool concept – positive, confident and a little bit shiny – all good things! But this iteration takes the process one step further. Naomi seems to be imagining The Glow as a kind of visible cousin of The Force; it’s an internal energy that creates an electric aura. She’s brought the idea to life with glowing gear, along with light-emitting accessories, hair and make-up. Everything is alight! The blackout background highlights this dramatically, making the look a combination of 80’s holographic glam-rock visuals and 70’s disco sensibilities. It feels very now, very new and super fun! While the visual effect of this ‘shoot is straight up AAAAHHHMAZING, Nay-nay didn’t stop there. She used her poses and facials to convey not just the look of The Glow, but the feeling of The Glow and what it’s like to have that energy inside and surrounding you. She did an utterly fantastic job with this – her stances and expressions feel unencumbered and uplifted, as if she could achieve anything. The Glow is projected as a kind of personal power, wielded by a common-man superstar. It’s not often that a ‘shoot jumps off a screen like this and gives us such a dynamic and revolutionary visual aesthetic; it draws the observer into an alternate dimension of reality for just a moment – a kind of space age scenario where battle-tested self-assurance is made visible. You do not want to miss this set of snaps!
Lana's NYC style swung from downtown girl to uptown chic when she dressed for this Reading Celebration. She exchanged her denim and sneakers for this sleek, cutout pantsuit in a sophisticated shade of navy and completed the polished look with strappy sandals. I love the way the black and navy works together, as well as the way her pretty blonde messy braids keep the look casual and down-to-earth. If I were going to split hairs, I think I'd advocate a piece bold gold statement jewelry somehwere...but who needs to split hairs all the time? ;)
Jojo put together a super-cool outfit for the same Reading Celebration, pairing a simple black tee with oversized houndstooth pants in a lovely combo of ivory and almond. I love the way the unusual scale of the houndstooth takes it from classic to graphic and give the outfit it's pop! She topped it all with a cropped black zip jacket - another piece I'm mad for. Every girl needs a casual, fierce jacket like this to pair with...oh, EVERYthing. Jojo finished the look with black ankle booties. I think I would have leaned toward pointy toe leather pumps here, but I like the way the booties make the outfit feel more laidback. Stephanie hopped on the white trend when she visited a New York city-area children's hospital in this simple white sheath. This is the kind of classic look we see often from Stephanie and here, as in many cases, it's just right. A simple, polished statement is classy, professional and stylish. I'd wager she paired this look with black sandals. I could also see adding a scarf to this outfit- it would maintain the same refined feel, while bringing in a touch of color. I tend to gravitate toward that idea when visiting hospitals as they can sometimes feel quite drab to those who are healing. A bit of brightness in an outfit can bring a happy spark. Dana's contribution to the SummerSlam festivities was a visit to a Be A Star rally, where she wore this ribbed sand-colored tunic over black leggings. Although I'd sort of have loved if this was a maxi dress instead of a tunic, this is definitely one of my favorite looks from Dana. I love the chic color combination and the trendy pieces. Her statement necklace brought just the right spike of glamour, along with those fabulous Rockstud pumps (you can always get me with a great pair of shoes! ;)). Her straight, side-parted hair is flawless. This is such a great styling from Dana; it doesn't try too hard and it fits her fashion sense - she owns the look, not the other way around. Loving it! I've made mention - Honorable Mention to be exact :) - of Alexa's super cool gear previously (see our 2016 Ring Gear Awards for details). Her SummerSlam outfit is one more in the line-up of gear that makes us eeee! Black plus something seems to be her current theme and this time around, the "something" turned out to be silver, a ttly fierce match-up for black. that goes double when it's emblazoned with tiny crystals. Oh, and let's not forget the studs at the hems, straps and waists. Basically, Alexa's look is a treasure trove of all things good in gear embellishment. Add to that metal gloves and glitter in her hair and we're just...SLAY US, girl #KneelingInWait. Naomi is next up, attending a Special Olympics basketball game in blue and white plaid leggings with a denim bustier top and a denim vest layer over all. I'm kind of borderline about each element individually, but they work well together and Nay-nay gets props for playing with proportion by layering the longer vest over a high-waisted style of pant. I'm also a fan of how she paired this casual look with boots; they fit the laidback vibe. They're my fave part of the look...along with her neon lime hair color - that's HOT! |
