Nikki won praise from the judges for her contemporary dance routine last week on DWTS and she’s winning praise from us for her fashion! Paralleling her dancing technique, her style game hit new heights with a pair of looks in black. For week three, the theme was “Guilty Pleasures” and Nikki chose Romance novels, dancing to a Viennese waltz inspired by 50 Shades of Grey to Rihanna's "Love on the Brain".
Brie: Nikki definitely kicked it up a notch for week three! Her red outfit was solid, the purple look was super fun, but this high drama concoction has me totally jazzed! Her halter gown begins with a seductive, corset-like lace bodice. It’s lined in nude, which both shows off the lace and ramps up the sensuality of the piece. From there, the dress transitions into a slinky jersey bottom half that flows beautifully with Nikki’s body. Its solidity contrasts with the delicacy of the lace and lends a darker mood and intensity to the look. I’m not often a fan of double front slits, but the Fearless One has me sold on them here, as they accentuate the movement and and work flawlessly for a performance piece, which can absorb more daring silhouettes and embellishments than streetwear. Her pale gold shoes act similarly to a nude sandal, elongating the leg line. Nikki’s choices of accents are equally stellar: the glamour of her long gloves coupled, the vintage vibe of her braided hairband, the searing passion invoked by her scarlet lip shade – each selection succeeds perfectly in bringing out the racy, titillating nature of this stirring, emotionally charged waltz.

WWE has released a gallery of never-before-seen (or “basically reeeeaaally similar but not exactly what you’ve seen before”) shots of Nikki. They’ve definitely dug back into the archives and given us some oldies, which is really fun, because we can how her style has evolved. But, equally special, is that they’ve given us a number of BTS snaps, so we get to see Nikki posing for a ‘shoot, lacing her sneakers and enjoying her title belt. She’s amazing about sharing her day-to-day life, but the prep that goes on before and around matches still mostly keeps under the radar. The gallery provides an enjoyable look at a side of her we don’t get to see enough of, as well as giving us a closer peek at all that fab, sporty gear she perpetually thrills us with! Black leather lined with red, cobalt blue gear accessorized with a studded baseball cap, a tee topped with a varsity bomber: it's all here to be savored!
This black monochrome look from Nikki was among the transitional outfits that signaled the advent of greater sophistication in her style. It highlights her core fashion principles: modern, chic, sexy and looks totally fierce! My guess is, though, that if she were styling this genre of look today, she’d make a few changes that would show her more honed and mature fashion sense. How might she do it? Well :)…
The simplicity of the look lets it translate excellently over the years; a few small tweaks would be more than enough to update it! The formula is a dose of urban, minimalist chic injected with a shot of sexiness. While then, that was represented with a leather-panelled mini skirt and a cut-out cropped top, today I think Nikki would reach for a midi pencil skirt: same sleek lines, far greater sophistication. Or, she might reach for a full-on leather skirt…perhaps with a statement detail, like a laced-up faux wrap or buttons. On top, she’d trade the cut-out tee for a classic sleeveless shell, an off-the-shoulder or boatneck tee or a bodysuit (possibly with a sheer detail). The black-on-black color palette she’d keep! But, she’d spice it up a bit with scarlet nails instead of cranberry and a flame lip. The major switch would almost certainly be in footwear. Then, Nikki completed the look with knee-high leather boots – plenty hot, but she’s since upped her shoe game dramatically! These days, she’d go for the dark drama of ankle booties in patent leather (see a similar here for the pair shown), the fun glamour of fur-embellished sandals or the iconic fabulosity of Chinese red pumps. As the weather turned chillier, she’d toss a varsity bomber jacket or simple cropped blazer with a strong shoulder-line over the top. And she might just reiterate her trademark red with a bold, massive pair of earrings or a statement ring. Feel like doing the look of today’s Nikki? Break out the black pencil skirts and slim tees, babes! Add a chic, urban shoe and a classic red lip and get that fearless feeling! Happy styling :) Mon Night - Ballroom Night, Waltz
Nikki did two dances last week in DWTS, the waltz and the samba, with veeerrry different fashion for each! Brie: I'm not used to seeing Nikki in anything quite as princess-y as this floral and sequin-embellished ivory gown. We've certainly seen her do sparkly pieces and feminine pieces, but in both cases, her natural inclination is to pieces with a modern edge that balance out the frills and glitter. Here, we get both, undiluted and I love how she carries it off! Her innate glamour and performance ability shine through, preventing the piece form overwhelming her. The spaghetti straps help too, adding a seductive twist that's missing from most princess gowns (imagine this look with puffed or floating sleeves!). That touch of sultriness is something Nikki is very comfortable with and it makes the gown harmonize with her style personality. I also found it interesting how lighting affects this piece; it really comes alive under the performance lights, taking on a magical quality. Lana was a blushing beauty in this pale pink tank dress. She kept the look monochromatic by finishing it with chunky-heeled ankle strap sandals. I love the shoes in and of themselves, but I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on pairing them with such a casual dress. They should help to elevate it, but they feel a little off here and I think jewelry (a long semi-formal pendant necklace for example) or a wide leather belt might have helped the look be more cohesive. This way, without accessories, I might have gone with sneakers or light-colored ankle booties. I do love her low pony; it shows off her shoulders and fits with the laidback, sporty vibe.
Maryse turns the seduction on full blast in this criss-cross strapped dress from Hot Miami Styles (also worn by Lana last fall, in pink). The fiery red hue just makes the piece that much more scintillating and Maryse's pulled-back hair lets the focus stay on that head-turning central detail. Since she wore the dress around Independence Day, I'm fully supporting white or blue heels to complete the look! :). Next up is a white lace-and-sheer sheath dress from Revolve Clothing. Maryse paired it with black Nudist sandals from Stuart Weitzman. This look is not only classic Maryse, it's classic period. The white and black combo goes heavy on the white, making it feel just right for summer. The delicacy of the sandals enhances that light-as-air quality. They're echoed by Maryse's dark nails, while her peach-pink lip brings in a touch of warmth. This look is simply chic from head to toe! I'm even crazier about her second outfit with the Nudist sandals: this forest green satin slipdress. The midi length is sophisticted and on-trend, as is the slipdress silhouette, but what really thrills me is this color -it's glorious! This rich jewel tone looks amazingly luxe, especially done in this shimmering satin. We've seen Maryse have success with this shade before and this rendition runs true to form. It works for summer (although I might have considered silver sandals to lighten the look a bit more); add a faux fur jacket and ankle booties to transition it into fall. McKenzie has consistently impressed me with her fashion since she popped on to my radar and this embellished dress she wore for Slammiversary doesn't tarnish her record. The embellishment is of perfect scale for her and on-trend, the fit of the sheath is splendid and the color combination is iconic. I like that she chose something a bit more formal for a big PPV event. I have one thing on my wishlist here: I wish she had gone with white (or black) shoes here, as I feel that the light nude hue can sometimes juts look dirty when paired with white. The strappy styling is a definite win though! Streetwear looks have been few and far between from Natalya this summer, so it was wonderful to see her out and about in this black jumpsuit. The clean, edited styling is just what I'd expect from this Queen Of Classic chic. I love the addition of the belt for added waist definition - I wouldn't even have minded a more dramatic version with a touch of embellishment or a bit more hardware. I'd put good money she completed this look with black strappy sandals or pointy toe pumps. Either one would be an excellent choice. Brie: A quartet of Divas attended this year’s ESPY awards and we saw quite the gamut of fashion! Lana kicked things off with a sheer knit halter-neck dress (from House of CB) which sported demure slits on each side. The crux of the look is the semi-transparent nature of the dress, which allows her strapless balconette bra and high-waisted briefs to create a shadow-silhouette beneath. While I love the clean, minimalist drama of the cutaway halter, I would infinitely prefer if this piece was lined. Unfortunately, doing so would make an already fairly laidback piece even more casual -too casual , really, for a red carpet event, even a more relaxed one such as this. Although I can’t come to a successful resolution of that conundrum, I appreciate the appropriateness of the sporty vibe of the piece for this event. Lana brought the fanciness up tremendously with her excellent choices of accessories: shoulder-grazing star earrings (so amazing!!), and a sprinkling of gold and crystal rings (all from Y2K Jewelers) and fabulous chain-embellished strappy sandals (the Hypnotize from Lola Shoetique). I’m definitely on board for the way the touches of shine and sparkle elevate this look! I also love the subtlety of her make-up palette; the amber, clay and taupe tones enhance her beauty without getting in the way of her outfit. And after all the bright lips we’ve seen all summer, this pastel golden rose is a nice change.
Next up was Maryse who took a much more glamorous approach (such a surprise, right? ;)) in this glittering Abyss By Abby gown. The plunging neckline and spaghetti-strap piece was a familiar silhouette for Maryse; while we’ve seen it before it also happens to be one that works flawlessly for her. I could have done without the second front slit, but I’m almost reconciled to that by the glorious bittersweet color of the gown. It’s uncommon and stunning. Sizeable crystal earrings bring in an additional dose of drama, while strappy beige-adobe Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals and a coordinating Louboutin envelope clutch complete the look. I love how her chocolate smoky eye echoes the warmth of her gown’s color. I love even more that she styled this look herself. Brava, Maryse! I can’t help but admire ladies who the guts and the fashion sense to do that, especially because the look then becomes a little extra authentic in that there’s no one between the fashion and the wearer to dilute their personal style sensibilities. Kim: Red carpets are always a fashion-lovers dream. You can see such a mix of fashion choices, and the 2017 ESPY Awards were the perfect example of that. From sleek dresses to sport-like looks, the WWE Superstars brought it all to the table this year. First up, I have to talk about my girl Nikki Bella. She went in a totally different direction than previous years at the ESPY's. Sporting a white crop top (from Missguided) with black trim and zipper detail, black flowy pants with white stripes (from Adidas x Stella McCartney), this is a very street/tomboy inspired look. The waistband of her Birdiebee underwear is clearly visible, which to some may be a fashion no-no. But for me, I'm giving it a pass, mostly because it's her and Brie's own fashion line. You can't blame her for wanting to show it off a little. Also, oh freaking amazing is her clutch. I want it! Brie: This reminds me of some of the Bella's ring gear looks from around 2011-12! I love the red and black - can't say I'm surprised by that color combo 'cuz it is Nikki, after all ;). That cut-away high-neck style is HOT, especially with the way the central zipper anchors the rest of the bodysuit. The skirt works really well here - I can't say I'd love it for a different event/occasion, but as a performance piece, it's fab! The thigh-highs add a contemporary twist that I can't help but appreciate. I might have liked a slightly less harsh hairstyle - a higher bun or tendrils - but it depends on the angle I catch, so let's call it approved :). This is classic Nikki: sleek, sexy and fearless.
Kim: I totally agree with you Brie! This outfit is very reminiscent of some Bella ring gear. I'm not sure if that was on purpose or not, but either way it's totally fabulous. For her first week on DWTS, Nikki wow'd us in this red-hot ensemble. I'm basically in love with everything here; the colour, the zipper detail, the choker neckline, the skirt! If you look closely at her feet, you can see she's wearing strappy red heels. I'm soo glad she added the embellished red thigh-highs. It gives the illusion of tall boots and honestly completes the look. Stay Fearless, Nikki B! |
